MacBook crashed the second day of using it

So I have been a life long PC user, but I finally decided to switch to a mac, since my 4 year old Dell got rained on and hasn't been working properly.
Anyways after countless commercials about how Macs don't crash and have any problems, I decided to pick up this new aluminum macbook. I have already had multiple problems with the trackpad (discussed in other forums) and the SECOND day of use, I was listening to iTunes with the visualizer, and it crashed. The music skipped and a window popped up telling me to restart the computer immediately. As far as I can remember with my Dell, it never crashed my entire system a SINGLE time. Yea programs would crash here and there, but never anything like that.
I love the interface on this thing, but I am very disappointed in Mac so far, especially when paying over $1600 for one...

The subject heading says it all: Distiller will suddenly close/crash the *SECOND* time I open a file for converting to PDF.
But I think I have a clue why this is happening. Typically, I use Distiller to convert EPS or PS files into PDFs. Also, almost without fail, I embed the required fonts (exclusively Type 1) directly into the EPS/PS files (using the required PFA format) so no local fonts on my computer are needed to be looked for by Distiller to be embedded in the resulting PDF; they're already in the EPS/PS files.
But yesterday, I attempted to convert some EPS/PS files to PDFs using Distiller in which I had NOT embedded the Type 1 fonts (in PFA format, of course) in the source EPS/PS files. The first such conversion would work (in which I select "Open" and choose an EPS/PS file for conversion), but after that initial conversion, the *SECOND* time I clicked on "Open" (open file), Distiller would immediately close/crash.
I then searched the web for answers, and discovered some people were having trouble getting Distiller to initialize if any of their computer system fonts were read-only. So, I went back to my EPS/PS files and embedded the required Type 1 (PFA format) fonts into them, and then—magically—Distiller worked without a hitch: I could open and convert any number of them in succession, with Distiller never closing/crashing.
So, I concluded the reason that Distiller had been crashing upon the second attempted opening of a file (again, simply by pressing the "open" button to search for a file to convert, *not* after selecting a file) must have had something to do with Distiller scanning my computer's installed fonts when there was no embedded PFA font to reference, and a read-only font on my system was causing the problem. However, I looked in the two logical places where my fonts should be located (c:\psfonts and c:\windows\fonts), but found *no* font files' attributes set to "read-only" So, I'm stumped.
I'm using Distiller Pro 10.1.1316 (acrodist.exe) on a Win 8.1 machine. I've found similar posts, going back to 2004, about Distiller immediately crashing after opening when some fonts are read-only; I haven't yet found a post about anyone successfully using Distiller to convert one EPS or PS file to PDF, and then having the program crash when the "Open" button is pressed subsequently. Any clues, anyone?

Never heard about the crash and that does not sound normal. Be sure to do the updates to Acrobat in case that resolves the issue. You might also check the font settings in the settings file and check to ignore the error if the font can not be embedded and Distiller should use what it considers to be the closest system font.

IPod Mini messed up on the second day of owning it..

I really need some help.. I downloaded three of my CD's from iTunes into my iPod Mini yesterday (when I purchased it), and now today.. Whenever I want to play a song, I get strange static..ish noises and it skips through all the songs in the album until the last one, then it stops and goes to the main menu. I am very upset now because I paid $100 for this iPod Mini, and it screws up on the second day..
Is anyone else getting this problem? Anyone know how I can fix it? Please help.

Once again I never said it was the hold and center button. I said you toggle the hold switch (which is on top of the ipod mini) to the on position, then you switch it back to the off position. After that you hold down the center button and the menu button.

Since this is the second computer you've had this problem with, I recommend you look for answers on the iPhone forum. My thinking is it is an iPhone issue rather than a computer issue (unless it is some software incompatibility).

Reader 9.3.3 crashes the second time I print

Running Adobe Reader 9.3.3 on Slackware Linux 13.1 (Kernel 2.6.33.4, 32 bit Intel). I can print fine, but only once. The second time I try to open the print dialog, Adobe Reader closes - crashes with a segmentation fault. This is 100% repeatable, and I don't even have to actually send anything to the printer. Just using File => Print, clicking Cancel, then again File => Print will cause the crash.
Someone else with Slackware Linux 13.1 has reproduced this, but I know it doesn't happen with Xubuntu 10.04 on the same hardware and same Reader version. So something is going on between Reader and Slackware Linux. Are there any suggestions that I can try to help track this down?

Hi Just an update on this.
This seems to now be fixed on slackware 13.1 and current.
It was indeed the same problem as described in the other threads. The reason it didn't crash firefox on default slackware is because it would only do so when gnome-vfs is installed (which doesn't come directly in the distro)
The cups package on 13.1 and current have just been updated to fix the problem and I have tested it with Reader 9.4.1 and can confirm the Reader doesn't crash anymore.

My First MacBook Crashes The Entire Network (Router) for Everyone?

I've spent the past 2 days on my first MacBook ever, struggling to keep the Internet active.
I've never had this problem before and it started when I brought this new MacBook home.
Basically what happens is when I start up the MB and it automatically connects to the Wireless Network, the entire Internet connection (router) drops and crashes and the only way to restore it, is to shut down the MacBook and thereafter reboot the Router.
If you start up the MacBook again, the same events follow; massive internet crash across the network and then you hear people screaming and shouting that the internet crashed.
I've done plenty research, and nothing seems to work.
I've found a bit of information on MTU and modifying the values. In the 2 days I've had this Mac, I've tried every value below 1500 on the Router and MacBook, (including 1492; 1400; 1352; 1450 etc) and can't keep the MacBook to save the Value under Ethernet?? Is this a Snow Leopard bug? When it does decide to save; it resets back to Manual - Standard 1500. It's frustrating, because I moved from Windows to Mac to get away from bugs and incompatibilities and guess what; First day I encounter massive inefficiencies due to Mac
I've had a little success; when the Mac does save the MTU in Ethernet for a session (not permanent after a restart for some weird reason); I am able to browse the internet for 10 - 20 minutes though another Access Point on MTU Values on 1420; 1428; 1436 and thats it. The internet crashes.
I've also tried to disable IPv6 and manually set DNS servers and IP's (automatic/static). No success.
Please help, this is not the greatest introduction to the Mac life, and I want is the internet connection to remain stable for everyone.

I'm having a similar problem with an older Belkin model, running DD-WRT firmware, and two different 2010 model MacBook Pros. Heavy upload traffic can cause the wireless access point to lock up.
A friend just told me today that he's having the problem with a Linksys model, running normal firmware, and older model MacBook Pros. Heavy upload traffic (Time Machine backups, in his case) causes his access point to lock up.

Such symptoms bode serious hardware issues and you shouldn't think about fixing it yourself when you are still in waranty. Get to an Apple Store, like the other poster suggests.

Time machine on Lion crashes the whole system when used with external HD

Anybody got the same problem? I did a Time Machine backup just before I did the upgrade to Lion (using an external USB HDD) after the upgrade (that went well in my opinion) when I ask TM to do another backup it stays on "Preparing" indefenately and ultimately crashes the whole system ( reset with ctrl+cmd+power button) is required otherwhise the system stays non reactive.

Start by verifying your internal HD, and repair your backups, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.
If that doesn't help, see #D6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for a possible way to cancel the backup. If that works, use the widget in #A1 there to display the backup messages from your logs. Locate the backup in question, then copy and post all the messages here.

ITunes Crashes the second it starts up, have to do a hard reboot each time.

This isn't a spinny wheel of doom question. The instant iTunes is started, it will completely crash the system and bring down the screen that says "Hold down the power button to restart your computer". This has happened four times now, and I even deleted the preferences in the library, and tried the same thing on another account. I copied what was in the error report below. Please, please help! I have an iPhone, and it's quite disconcerting if I can't sync it to my computer because iTunes is being stupid. Thank you!

From your description, that should have worked, since you've narrowed the problem down to that particular account. I don't recall anyone posting that it didn't work when it was the only account not working.
Try doing that again, but first close all Finder windows except the one you're using to delete the file. As soon as you delete it, click the Apple icon at the left of your menubar, choose +Force Quit,+ select Finder, then click the Relaunch button.
If that doesn't fix it, do the same again, except this time select Restart from the Apple menu.
I can access Time Machine through the other account, and it looks like all of the backups are there and complete, but I cannot seem to restore from them because the account from which I am accessing it is not the original account.
Yes, that's correct -- it would be a rather large security problem if one user could access a different user's files in Time Machine, when they can't normally.

If you use the Toshiba PC Health Monitor what does it say about the condition of your battery?
(All Programs-Toshiba-Support and Recovery-PC Health Monitor)
My laptop is about 4 months old and will recharge to within 1% of it's 48 watt hour capacity so if you are only getting 31 watt hours I'd be concerned and take it back to where I bought it.

Recently I started having this problem with the Iphone5 IO7 software it says " SIM Card is not Installed" while it fixed the problem by repeated turn on and off but comes again on the second day

I am sure apple must be working on a patch or an io7 update. I keep on getting this msg while calling and phone does not receive any incoming calls when it displays a msg saying "SIM card is not installed". I would appreciate if apple try to resolve this software problem asap. Thanks
