  • MBP doesn't see usb card reader

I have a MAUSB-10 card reader and my MBP doesn't see it. It's usb and was plugged into my xp box, but I'm trying to switch everything over to mac and this is a major stumbling block. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the MBP to see the reader..... cmd line force? anything!?!
    Thank you in advance.

I just tried a Sandisk USB 2.0 Card Reader/Writer for Sony style memory stick. Model SDDR-170-A10M. My 15" MacBook Pro will not mount the memory stick on the desktop. I have a support e-mail into Sandisk, but I am wondering if there is anything I can do to make this work in the meantime?
I am seeing no Apple Mac OSX specific drivers. The device did come with a Windows driver software mini-cd-disc. Which I beleive I couldn't use on my internal CD drive anyway.
Any thoughts out there would be much appreciated!
BTW an SIIG, Inc. ExpressCard 11-in-1 R/W card does work! I just thought the Sandisk "thumb-drive" style R/W device would be a more universal way to work between computers.

  • Finder doesn't see USB drive - Another one!

    I shall describe the situation:
400GB SATA HDD in triple interface enclosure. Drive partitioned into six volumes.
This drive mounts and runs fine on a brand-new MacMini (OS 10.5), a 3 year old PowerBook (OS 10.4.11), a 7 year old TiBook 667 (OS 10.3.9), and a PowerBook G3 500 'Bronze' (first FireWire, OS 10.2.8).
But on my MacBook Pro, Finder doesn't see it.
Every other program on my MacBookPro that I can run sees this drive: DiskUtility, USB Probe, TechTool, Disk Warrior, all say everything is fine, and the disk IS mounted.
Finder doesn't see it, not on the desktop, not in a Finder window, not in any open/close dialogue boxes.
Doesn't matter how it's connected, USB, FireWire 400 or 800, or which cables are used.
Since Finder can't see it, I have to make sure I go to DiskUtility to unmount them, or I get the Device Removal warning.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone know which switch got set wrong and how to set it back?

I have several identical 400GB external drives connected via Belkin hubs.
They have worked flawlessly until the latest Security Update.
Now one of them will no longer show up when connected via the hub but will if connected directly. The other identical drives still work ok.
It won't show in Finder or Disk Utility unless connected direct and this is quite reproducible. No problems reading it on a Macbook with Leopard either.

  • Macbook doesn't see my network connection

My Macbook Pro (bought July 2012) doesn't see my wifi network at home but see others available. When I join other networks in different country (I travel a lot) and come home I can see it but when the mac goes to sleep I cannot connect again. Tried to find the help online, nobody seems to have the same issue. PC sees the network just fine.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • IMac doesn't "see" USB Flash drive on initial insertion

    Hi,
I have a new iMac running Mavericks with a powered SIIG external USB hub. (Rear USB port design on iMac is inconvenient).
Problem: When I insert a NTFS-formatted USB Flash drive into the hub, the light blinks as expected, but the iMac doesn't "see" it and it doesn't show up in "Devices".
When I remove and re-insert the USB drive, the iMac then "sees" it just fine and it shows up in "Devices"
    Seeing this consistently.
Any ideas what might be happening here?
I also have Paragon NTFS installed to enable read/write to external NTFS drives.
    Thanks.

I've tried 2 Anker 10 port hubs with my brand new iMac 27" Retina.  No storage device is recognized when connected via the hub.  The same storage devices are recognized when I plug directly into my iMac.  So there seems to be an issue from the iMac to the hub.

  • HT2801 I have a 2009 MacBook with an optical drive built in. It has "spotty" performance lately, so I got a USB super drive for Christmas. Unfortunately, the MacBook doesn't "see" it. Any solutions?

I have a 2009 MacBook with an optical drive. It is becoming unreliable, and as a result, I got a USB SuperDrive for Christmas. Problem, neither my MacBook, nor my iMac (2008) recognize the drive.  What's the issue? I thought I could get a few more years out of my MacBook by using an external USB optical drive.

The USB SuperDrive is only designed to work with a few Mac computers.....specificaly the ones that do not have an internal Optical Drive...

  • One of my Macs doesn't see USB drive hooked to Airport Extreme

I have three Macs on my home network. Two of them can see the USB drive I've attached to my Airport Extreme, but the third -- a recent Intel Mac Mini -- won't. Airport Utility on the Mac Mini sees the drive, but Airport Disk Utility doesn't. Here's what I've tried:
    ~ Restarting the Airport Extreme
    ~ Retarting the Mac Mini
~ Reinstalling the Airport Extreme software on the Mini.
    Any ideas?

have you gone to the network button in the finder and searched for it after pushing the network button?

  • Migration Assistant doesn't see USB Time Machine drive

My dad recently got a new MacBook Pro and wants to restore from his Time Machine backup, stored on a USB drive. He didn't use the Setup Assistant at the start - I'm really not sure why, but anyway...
Now we're looking at Migration Assistant, and it can't find the Time Machine drive. On the 'Select your disk' screen, the wheel just spins and spins. The backup drive is plugged in and mounted. We've checked the drive for errors using Disk Util, and it's fine. Moreover, I tested this with my own MBP and it's backup drive and the same problem occurs.
He also tried booting from the install DVD and using the 'restore' option from the Utilities menu, without success.
Is this because he has started to set up the machine using a user (as admin) with the same account name as the Time Machine backups? This website suggested that maybe that's what happening: http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html. Before I take him through a reinstall, etc, I'm hoping to confirm that this is really the problem!

Just create a new user account with a different name. Logout of the current account and log into the new one. Be sure the new account has admin status. You can then try migrating and see if it now works. Also see OS X 10.5- Migration Assistant keeps "looking for other computers".
See User Tips for Time Machine for help with TM problems. Also you can select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine" to locate articles on how to use TM. See also Mac 101- Time Machine.

  • Time Capsule set up and wifi network OK but MacBook doesn't see capsule as airport device.  Do I need to do a hard reset and start again?

I recently bought a Time Capsule and sucessfully set it up in accordance with the instruction book.  The home network and guest network seem to work fine but my MacBook cannot find the Time Capsule wirelessley.
Initially I set up the time capsule connected to the MacBook with an ethernet cable.  The Time Machine got 30GB way through a 60GB initial back up and then stopped for no obvious reason.  Since then the capsule has not been visible to the MacBook.  I have tried to reconfigure through Airport Utility but even after reperated rescans the capsule remains invisible.
Any help would be extremely welcome.

    1. i would restore the express to factory defaut by holding the reset button on the unit with a paperclip while you are powering it on
    2. if it restored, you should be able to see it in your wifi icon at top of screen as "airport express"
or you can see it in airport utility
    3. then if you want to connect it wirelessly to your time capsule, you would choose "extend network" and put in relevant security and password....this would make the express a wireless access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)
if you chose to do it wired which is a better way if you have access to ethernet port at wall, you would choose "create a wireless network" and then under the "network" tab you would choose "Bridge Mode".....this would make the express a wired access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)

  • LabView doesn't see USB device

    Hallo,
I have LabView 8.5 installed and two LogicBoxes (NIMbox NDL8 and NAD4) via USB connected. By typing in the proper USB-ID of NIMbox NDL8 in the
    VISA everything
just worked fine. Then I realized this doesn't work for the other modul, so I tried switched cables and reinstalled the USB driver.
    The current situation:
Windows XP detects the USB devices without any problem - always has. However, suddenly I can't connect in LabView with them by typing
in the USB-ID. The whole time the modules never showed up in MAX, but since they aren't NI instruments I think that was to expect anyway.
I just have no idea why it worked first partly and now it doesn't work at all.
Even though my problem description is kind of vague - I'm new to LabView.
I would really appriciate advice, which things I should check in order to get the USB working again.
    Thanks!

  • Can't create recovery media -- R&R doesn't see USB dvd-r drive

I have a cheap asus usb dvd-r drive.  When I plug it in, everything's recognized by windows 7, however, when I get to the screen in create recovery media where I have to selected my device to record on, the drop down menu is blank and I can't select my USB dvd-r drive.  I have seen some other threads telling me to uninstall the driver and restart, but that hasn't worked.  Any ideas?
    x201 tablet, windows 7 32-bit

    plsfoldthx, welcome to the forum,
please do and check the following; attach the drive when the system is turned off, start the system and then enter bios (F1). Navigate to and open the startup menu and check that the drive is recognised by bios, hit F10 and then enter to save and exit. The system will restart.
Once windows has booted have another look in R&R to see if the drive is recognised.
I've always suspected that R&R calls up it's drive information from bios because hot plugging a drive has never worked for me with R&R.

  • Rescue and Recovery backup doesn't see USB harddrive

I have a USB drive connected to my laptop and I can access it with Windows file explorer. If I try to backup to it R&R says it can't find it. I don't see other users reporting similar problems here. Can anyone suggest a way to get this to work and, if I do get it to work, how can I be sure I will be able to restore from the drive if I need to?

The error message is: "The USB backup drive cannot be found. Please reattach and try again." Since Windows can see the drive, reattaching makes no sense.
Googling for this error message turned up a posting from someone with the same problem on these forums which unfortunately has received no replies.

  • One Year Old MacBook Doesn't See 5GHz Time Capsule

My son's MacBook (13" 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, Machine ID MacBook4,1, running Mac OS X 10.5.7) seems to be unable to connect to my first-generation Time Capsule that is configured to operate over 802.11n on the 5GHz band (the 2.4GHz band is very crowded here).
His MacBook has a AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x88) card by Broadcom (firmware BCM43xx 1.0 5.10.38.35) -- the same version of firmware I have on my MacBook Pro (which has no difficulty making the connection).
Question: Shouldn't that generation MacBook work with the 5GHz 802.11n TC?
Does anyone have an idea as to why it isn't working and/or a suggestion what to do about it? Are there specific frequencies or channels to be avoided (I use Automatic, but that was by default).
    Thank you.

Thanks forks for the posts. To reply to your questions in order:
GD, the Time Capsule does put out 5GHz -- and it is currently configured to "5GHz (only)" mode.
BT, the password is unmodified, the MacBook has been power cycled (as has AirPort) on numerous occasions. The network is currently configured as "Closed," though that can (and will) be toggled for testing purposes. I'll let you know.
I will also try setting the frequency manually (on a high channel, then a low one, etc.) instead of using "Automatic." I learned, from related reading, that some 802.11n radios cannot acquire all the specified frequencies, so maybe "Automatic" landed on one that this MacBook can't deal with.
I'll report back on the outcome of testing later today.
    Again, thank you.
