Macbook doesn't wake up after automatic sleep

I've got a problem with my macbook. Whenever it goes asleep from not using it ( automatic, I set the time at 15 minutes ) I need to push the power button for like 2 minutes before it wakes up again. I've many friends who have macbooks, whenever they shut the computer down just by pushing the screen down on the keyboard, they simply need to open it again and it wakes up. Mine doesn't unless I close it and open it 2 minutes later. If I let it shut for something like 10 minutes I then need to press the Power button to have it revive. Sometime I need to press it 2 minutes, sometime a bit less.
That was the first part of the problem. At the beginning it didnt disturb me that much so I didn't try to solve the problem. Now the infaction has mutated. Whenever I put it asleep myself or when it goes automatically I can't restart it. I press the power button but whenever it restarts ( still need to push the power button for 2 minutes ) the screen recovers ( can see the recovering bar down ) and when it reaches the 3 last bar it stops, and an message comes on the front saying there is a problem and I need to restart the computer.
It's very nasty, I can't put my computer asleep, and can do nothing about it.
Has anyone encountered the same problem? Or does anyone know what I can do? I still have my warranty. Should I send it to apple?
Thank you very much for your help.

Thanks for the help

try these troubleshooting steps:
_*resetting the System Management Controller SMC*_
_*resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM*_
if that doesn't help, try booting into _*safe mode*_, then reboot normally.

  • Monitor doesn't wake up after DPMS sleep

    Hi,
I have bought a new PC with an Intel Core i7-4790K CPU. It includes the HD4600 GPU which should be able to drive my LG 34UM95-P with 3440x1440@60Hz. I connected it via DisplayPort and enabled DP 1.2 in monitor settings. But the display never wakes after the monitor goes into power save mode, instead I get this errors in my log:
Mär 10 16:48:43 maxxgubbl kernel: [drm:intel_dp_start_link_train] *ERROR* failed to enable link training
Mär 10 16:48:43 maxxgubbl kernel: [drm:intel_dp_complete_link_train] *ERROR* failed to start channel equalization
I googled already, but found only people which are never get the display working with DispalyPort and as a solution there was a kernel patch which was already accepted 2013. With HDMI it work with 3440x1440@50Hz so far.
I hope someone can help me.

  • My macbook pro doesn't wake up after sleep

my macbook pro doesn't wake up after sleep

I'm having the same issue. I've had my logic board replaced twice now, which I did last week and then Monday I had to take it to a Genius Bar again because my hard drive cable was malfunctioning. I don't know why it's happening but I'm really starting to get frustrated with my machine. I bought my MacBook Pro brand new last year in September and ever since I've dropped it in November, it's been really glitchy. After I dropped it, I had to replace my Logic board, graphics card, and hard drive and they covered it.

  • IPhone 4 doesn't wake up from the Sleep Mode

iPhone 4 32Gb doesn't wake up from the sleep mode. When the iPhone goes into the sleep mode, I can't wake it up with the 'Power' button, neither with the 'Home' button. The phone is working, I even can hear the sound of 'unblock' slider if u touch and slide the screen at the place where the 'unblock' slider suppose to be, but the screen remains black. I have to push the 'Home' or 'Power' buttons MAAAANY TIMES to make the screen appear finally. Sometimes I need to push it 30 or 40 times!!! Or I just have to reboot the phone to make it work. But right after it goes into the sleep mode, I can't wake it again But when the phone is connected to iTunes, the sleep mode is working good (one push on the button and the phone is awaken). I tried to upgrade to 5.01 but nothing have changed. Also I've tried to synchronize the phone as 'New', but no luck again, the problem is still on the case. What I have to do? Do someone have the same problem? In Russia we have no official Apple Stores and my iPhone 4 is from Malaysia. So I can't just go to the Apple office and replace the phone. What can I do?

No, I don't have a case only a protective membrane on the screen... and I've tried to reset the iPhone by holding the 'Power' and 'Home' buttons with no result. After this reset the phone is working normally sometimes for about ten minutes (wakes up after one push), but then it's all repeats. And I repeat, that if I connect the iPhone to the PC with the USB-cable, the sleep mode is working fine, just like it should (I can wake the phone with one button push).

Hi Kappy Thanks for your answer. I did a reboot on my Macbook as suggested and this operation is going on non stop for 14 hours and on the screen always appears the same message that you can see in the picture in attachment. Any ideas?

  • Macbook air doesn't wake up after improper shutdown

    Hi guys,
I've had this issue for couple times in the past 8 months.
I've consulted Apple support but doesn't seem helpful at all.
They took my MacBook Air for invenstigation for over a week and returned and concluded no issue found.
Hence I had to consult genius on the forum.
I seldomly had this issue, my MacBook Air 2012 just shuts while it's in use, or while it's asleep, and I couldn't wake it up.
It looked like dead and nothing turned it back on, keyboard nor pwoer button.
I could only to wait for another 10 or 15 minutes, and then press the power button again.
Usuallys it comes back from a restart and return to the login menu.
After I log in, it shows there was an inproper shutdown.
This kinda annoys me as I don't know if there's going to be any potential issue after my warranty expires. (still 4 months left)
After suggestion would be much appreciated.

    Hi all,
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the late reply as I was away from Internet access for the past week.
I couldn't reproduce this at will. It happened again this morning.
I was pretty sure I had the power connected, lid closed and connected to my HDMI monitor and USB mouse and keyboard. I left the MacBook Air on when I went to bed, and I had power went sleep after an hour in the energy setting.
When I resumed my computer by pressing keys couple of times (strange, it doesn't wake my computer up with one press) on my USB keyboard, my computer went straight into the login screen. I knew it was shutting down again.
I just did reset SMC but I don't think it helps. I'll monitor it for another week.
I did have the crash log and will send to Apple Support for further investigation.
I'll post it here just in case anyone is interested.

  • MacBook Air not wake up after sleep

    Hi,
My MacBook Air(Mid 2012) can't wake up after sleep. I recently updated operation system to Mac OS X Mavericks and now after sleep mode screen goes black and nothing happens after this. Only thing that I could do is hard reboot by pressing power button and boot again. Do anyone have the same issue and suggestions how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance
    Dmitrii

Same thing here. MBA 2011 working perfectly until I updated to Mavericks.
It often doesn't wake up fully. It does draw the password input box but there's no text cursor and no input is possible. The mouse cursor is not visible either. Waiting does nothing (tried ~15 minutes, no change). Closing the lid does not put the laptop back to sleep, it's fully frozen and the only way out is a reboot by holding the power button.

  • Quicksilver doesn't wake up after sleep

Recently (over the past month or so) my Quicksilver G4/733 has developed a problem where it sometimes (about 20% of the time) will not wake up after going to sleep. Tapping on the keyboard to wake up, for example, results in no reaction from the computer other than my FireWire DVD burner clicking a few times. Using the power button to wake up causes the button to glow and fade out with no other reaction from the computer (except the FireWire drive).
To get the computer to start up again, I cut the power for about a minute (usually by turning off my power strip) and then attempt to start up. If I only cut power for a few seconds, the computer exhibits the same unresponsive behavior.
I have not upgraded my hardware or system (other than automatic Software Update) or installed any applications in the past few months.
Thanks in advance for your help.

If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following line:
    reset-all
    press Return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still did'nt work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician.
    Cheers!

  • Computer doesn't wake up after it went to sleep

After I upgraded my OS to Leopard, everytime it went to sleep, it doesn't wake up and need to hard restart. Anyone has the same problem or know what the issue is? I haven't had this issue before the upgrade. It has happened to me 4 times now.

    Yep, same problem.
At first it seemed related to Fast User Switching. I turned it off and it seemed like the problem was solved.
That was a couple of weeks ago. Now it's back, and it happens even when no programs are running. I HATE not being able to sleep the machine.
If you haven't tried it, and you are using Fast User Switching, it's worth trying with it switched off. It might work for you. Maybe even longer than a few weeks?

  • NEW iBook and doesn´t wake up after sleep mode!

    Hi,
I´ve just started to use my new iBook G4 3 days ago, added my user information, and for a little while the wireless internet connection. Then, I closed the display to put it on sleep mode.....and.............it DOESN´T WAKE UP!!!
The hard disk seems to start up correctly (the fan is on and the disk noise is ok), the Caps Lock on the keyboard is on too, but as soon as I reboot the computer, a strange beep (like a phone tone!) starts up, then the sleep light signal flashes but the screen stays black.
I think that by now I´ve tried the most solutions (as far as I can having the black screen) I´ve read on the troubleshooting page and the recommendations posted in this Discussion chat... The iBook remains partially dead.
    Help!!!

ummm, even when its not plugged in to the power adapter? i find that when my ibook annoyingly doesnt wake from sleep, its usually because i connected/disconnected something while it was sleeping. even plugging in the power adapter seems to affect it. the way i fix it is to put it to sleep again, and then open the lid. its worked every time so far.
oh, and apprantly 'manually' putting the ibook to sleep does the trick (ie from the apple menu)

  • MacBook Doesn't Wake Up (when External FireWire Drives attached)

Anybody else notice their MacBook not waking up from sleep when Fire Wire drives are attached, specifically through the FW port or the Express Card port.
Granted, the MacBook wakes up 50% of the time in general with nothing attached...kind of a crap shoot.

Hi, I have a macbook air for some time now. It works fine, starts reasonable fast and with one exception I'm pleased with it.If I closed the LID or press the on-off button the system sleeps. When I open the lid the next day (8 -12 hrs later) the system doesn't wake up. The log file which I presume is send to Apple did lead to a patch. I saw on the support site various conversations in respect to this issue with various results.
I see that the problem of James even returned and was not reported to be resolved until now.
In my log I have the following messages, "Sleep failure" of last few days. What should I do to resolve this, or is Apple delivering a patch for this?

  • My macbook doesn't wake up

I open up a webpage, let the macbook go to sleep and when I try to wake it up (sometimes by opening the lid of the mac or if it's already open just by clicking on any key), and to my surprise it sometimes doesn't wake back up. Other times it'll wake up without a problem but I have encountered the NOT waking back up problem more often. And this is a brand new macbook. I bought it from a reseller store, opened it up and started giving problems right away. Right now it's been sent to Apple Repair Center for the second time and magically it seems that there's no problem over there. The engineer cannot duplicate the same problem that happened to me at home and to the store tech, right in front of his eyes.
Any solution to this problem? I would like to use the mac one of these days since it's almost been a month and I may have had the mac with me for like 3 days total (of course rebooting every single time it wouldn't wake bak up). I must be the ONLY frustated and disatisfied Apple customer on the planet since from what the ad on the web about macbook says: It just works out of the box. Well, mine DOESN'T and nobody wants to take responsibility for it!!!

I realize you're frustrated, and any computer-related difficulty can give the blues, big time.
Give the technicians credit, they do the best they can, and try to solve your (and everyone elses) problem.
Have you done a serach through the support forums, Google, etc. for 'wake from sleep macbook', 'sleep issue macbook', 'won't wake up macbook'?
I don't want to blame you, but try to gather as much info about the problem as you can. I've had several issues with my Macs where it was my fault, not the Mac's, and I didn't reailze the solution was under my nose the whole time.
It could be indeed that you do have a hardware problem, and somewhere along the way they will find it, and you'll have it addressed, I'm almost 100% sure of it.
Make yourself a cup of whatever you need to relax, and take care of yourself. These forum are filled with people like you, and with people who are trying to help.
We all like it when we can exercise patience, and find answers for each other, so do your best to breathe deep, and smile- because your issue will be resolved.
Mac users and tech support are among the best you'll find, believe me.

  • ARD 3.3 Will not Wake Machine After Long Sleep

We are using ARD 3.3 on our network. We have found that ARD will not wake machines after they have gone to sleep and stayed in that state overnight. If I manually wake the machine and put it to sleep, it works fine. If I wake the machine and put it to sleep for several hours, it still works fine. The problem is completely random and only seems to happen when the machines have been asleep overnight. There are three machines this occurs with, I will describe each one below. I have a sneaky suspicion that it is our Firewall appliance causing the problem, but would appreciate any other input...

    Intel Imac 2.8Ghz core-duo
    OS X 10.5.8
    4GB 667mhz DDR2 SDRAM
Problem: Occurs 98% of the time and is very consistent on this machine
    Machine #2
    PPC G5 Imac 1.9Ghz
    OS X 10.4.11
    1.5GB SDRAM
Problem occurs about once a week to once every other week with this machine
    Machine #3
    Intel Imac 2Ghz Core Duo
    Mac OS X 10.5.8
    2GB 1067Mhz DDR3
Problem occurs once in a blue moon
I have tried the following troubleshooting steps with machine #1 because it seems to have the problem so much...
    1. Tried another user account
    2. Tried removing power management plist located in HD --> Library --> Preferences --> Systemconfig
    3. Tried resetting the SMU
    4. Tried to repair disk permissions
    5. Ran FSCK -FY from single user mode
    6. Ran AHT for 17 hours straight with no errors
    7. Booted to clean install of OS on external FW drive with user ported to FW drive.
BTW: Our firewall appliance is an Snapgear SG560 with the latest firmware.
Thanks for any input much appreciated...

I cannot wake up any computers even if asleep for a few seconds. ARD 3.3 has broken a lot of features such as copying files by dragging from a remote connection to desktop and it no longer reports Current Status correctly.
AWFUL update. Apple please fix this or explain how to downgrade to 3.2
I can no longer use this in the school where I supervise 50 Macs.

  • Wont wake up after forced sleep when battery dies

I have a new MacBookPro OSX 10.7.2 from the first day the laptop will wakeup from hibernation or sleep after the battery dies.
I try to let the battery cycle fully before plugging in and reguaarly the laptop shutsdown when the battery is low.
When i try to turn it back on it starts the wake up process with indicator bars showing progress, then it stops at about three bars and just beeps indefinatly until i power off the machine when i turn it back on it comes up but ive lost everything i was working on!
very frustrating, why wont it properly wake up after a low battery hibernation??!????

Well the question is when this happened the first time and you lost everything you were working on why did you let it happen the second time or the third or forth and not plug the computer in.
It may be frustrating but there is only one person to blame and that is you. Not Apple and not the computer. As YOU knew exactly what was going to happen but you let it happen anyway.
The true definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different outcome.

  • USB doesn't wake up after waking MacBook Pro from Sleep Mode

I have a problem with my new MacBook Pro.
I attach an Apple 20" cinema display to the macbook pro USB connector and then I attach my apple keyboard and mouse to my cinema display.
When I wake up my macbook from being asleep my mouse and keyboard are not activated. I have to unplug my cinema display USB connector and unplug my keyboard from the display and then plug them all back in again to get them to re-activate.
Anybody know why this is occurring, its very frustrating each time my machine goes to sleep

In that case, does the problem still exist when starting up the MBP in Safe mode and then putting it to sleep and awakening it?
