Macbook Pro 2.3GHz Ret. Display - Display calibration assistant always results in very dark display! Has anyone seen this? Don't know what else to do...

I do a lot of photography and tried calibrating my monitor using the calibration assitant built into Macbook Pro.
No matter how many time and how I do this the monitor turns out very dark after calibration - ridiculously so - to a point that I just go back to the default profile! I have not tried true calibration using professional tools as I don't have mine with me where I am right now.
Wondering if there is any tricks to this that I might have missed.
Thanks for any pointers...
Regards,
b

I guess nobody knows if the crash that occured was legitimate or not?  Apple phone support could do nothing for me, so I guess I am left to drive 45 minutes to the nearest store.

  • Macbook Pro, accidentally uninstalled airport card somehow. Reinstalled OS and everythng, appears to be software issue, but I don't know what to do.

Dad's Macbook Pro (10.6.3, from 2010) had perfect wifi, he accidentally uninstalled(?) it somehow, has no idea how he did it.
It said "no airport card installed" when I'd click the little wifi icon on the bar, or go into network settings.
I have wiped hard drive, reinstalled OS, reset SMC and PRAM, to no avail, and now there is no wifi icon at all.
I ran a hardware test (both regular and extensive), and nothing is coming up.
It's like the computer just CAN'T use wifi- I can't select it from any menu, for example:
-in the main "Network" window (under System Pref) it shows only Ethernet and Firewire on the side bar
-when I select the "+" to add a service/interface, only Firewire, Ethernet, Bluetooth DUN, VPN, 6 to 4 and PPPoE appear
-in "Network Setup Assistant" only DSL modem, cable modem, LAN are choices. "AirPort" is there, but is grayed out and cannot be selected.
Airport Untility is still installed, and will open but says unable to find any devices.
And when I ran System Profiler, under Network > AirPort, I have the following
    "Software Versions:
         Menu Extra: 6.2.1
         Configd plug in: 6.2
         System Profiler: 6.0
         Network Preference: 6.2.1
         AirPort Utility: 5.4.2
         IO80211 Family: 3.1"
I simply don't know what to do.  At first I thought I might need a physical "card" replaced, but hardware test says everything is fine, so I feel it must be software, but I wouldn't know what to try besides what I've already tried- I thought reinstalling the OS would do the trick, honestly, but it hasn't. Please help.

System profiler certainly does suppy information of installed hardware. Not sure why you said it doesn't.
If there is no wifi card found in the syetem then the info I outlined would be there.

  • Itunes doesn't display graphics, only text, has anyone seen this?

Just loaded iTunes 10.5 on Windows...only TEXT is displayed...has anyone seen this?

I have this exact problem, and it occurs on every device I own: iMac, Macbook, iPad, Win 7. The explanation for the issue is that the stylesheet isn't coming over (.CSS).
Because it occurs on every device in my house, I'm assuming there's something in my wireless router configuration that's causing it. I haven't found the issue yet, but I'm digging through my modem configuration to see.
go to either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1
That's your modem's IP address. If you can figure out what's in the configuration that's causing it, please post back.

  • Has anyone seen this display problem?

I even changed my video card and still had the same issue? has anyone seen this or know how to fix this issue?
I tried to show a screen capture but didnt have any luck but the issue is alot of my icons are showing pink lines on them and when in certain application and safari the pictures are showing up all pixelated with pink and green pixels instead of displaying the correct image? is it possible the AGP slot is bad? i just upgraded to 10.5.8 hoping to correct the problem but no luck. Also this is a Power PC 1.8 ghz.
    Thank You

I wasn't notified that you asked me a question or that there was a new post on this topic. I should have been, that bugs me.
    Anyhow... Mr. Ah
The problem that some people, mostly with a certain video card, were having was when they updated from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5. For many of them the problem went away when they went through the hassle of reverting back to 10.5.4.
Did you +just recently+ update to 10.5.5? If you have, then their fix is for you too, going back to 10.5.4. If you have had 10.5.5 installed for a while now, and this just started happening, chances are good that it is your video card, or perhaps something affecting it like dust and dirt like DP says above.
If you have another start up drive, firewire or internal, and you had enough space on it you might consider installing a previous OS 10.5 on there and start up from it. If the problem went away you would know it's 10.5.5. Perhaps even if you started up from your OS disc the problem might go away and again you'd know it was 10.5.5. Apple was made aware of the problem on some machines and said they were going to come out with a fix, but I don't think they ever did.
Post back and say what the situation is, especially if you just recently updated to 10.5.5.
And post back with what kind of G5 you have, look in the "About this Mac" window.
Your card may be dying, but on the other hand it might be as easy as pulling it out, blowing it out, and putting the card back in again.

  • Has anyone seen this MacBook Pro 15" 2008 problem before?

Hi. My MacBook Pro has developed a fault whereby a horizontal line appears on the screen, the mac freezes then a host of vertical lines gradually appear on the screen until it is obscured. Something similar happened in May last year and Apple charged me over £300 to repair it, replacing the 'mother board'.
I have so far taken it into the Apple shop twice in the last week (a two hour round trip). Both times they have opened it, cleaned it and declared it fixed. This time it lasted about an hour before happening again, although this time at least I've been able to restart it.
Has anyone seen this before, or have any advice about how best to proceed?
I have put a video of the symptoms here:

  • I am trying to format my macbook pro hard drive and every time I get a window that says "Cannot instal Mac OSX on this Hard Drive." What do I do?

The only options it gives me is to restart or restore from back up which isn't what I want to do... HELP?!

Provide information relative to the issue like which MBP model, what OS is running on it, what OS are you trying to install on it and where did you get the OS installer disk from then perhaps someone could help.

  • It looked like a small bug going up and down on my screen then it stopped about 12 o clock a quarter of the way from the top, now it seems to be burned in to the inside of the screen, anyone seen this before?  And what can be done about it,  macbook pro

I have what looked like a small bug that ran up and down the screen and then sudenly stopped in center upper half of screen and now appears to be burned in to the inside of the screen, anyone had this probelm before and what can be done about it?

Thanks for the suggestion, the next step was to call Apple, who gave me a claim number, which I discovered you must have to get anything done with them.  They refered me to a Apple store or repair center, after some reseach took it to the Computer Store in Mobile, Alabama and they were excellent.  They took pictures of the screen with bug submitted it to Apple who denied the claim but they kept kicking it up to the next level and finally Apple agreed to sent new cover.  The Computer Store had the cover the next day, they changed it out and now I am bug free.  If your in the area of Mobile Alabama you can feel good about getting help from the Computer Store.  For the two folks that responded to my note, Thank You, good comments and good advice.

  • Of all the iMac display problems here, has anyone seen this yet? (PHOTO)

Take a look at what I've been experiencing. I took this photo with my iPhone, so while it may appear that there are gradation issues or other irregularities, my real concern is the top center of the image. I've had my 24in iMac for about 8 months and this issue began about two months after purchasing it, but since I work at home and am on this computer all day, every day, I haven't haven't been able to afford the time to get it fixed. This blotch is NOT on the glass and it almost doesn't make sense to call it a "blotch" since you can clearly see some kind of patterning going on. It's the LCD itself. In the corners you can see some streaking going on which IS on the glass, but the stuff at center top is not. It seems to be getting worse, so I'm going to have to take it in, but I just wanted to know if anyone out there had anything similar going on. I am.....shall we say, nonplussed about this and have been since it started.

I recently bought a 24" iMac (intel based) in April 2009.
Within 2 days of using it, I had a small 3"x3" "ink blob" show up on the screen, very similar to what you're experiencing, but much darker and prominent.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a defective LCD screen and your problem will just get worse. The reason I'm saying it will probably get worse is because mine did and this "ink blob" has grown in size over the past few weeks to a size of about 8" in length and about 5-6" in width. Covers a good fraction on my screen now when it appears.
Meanwhile, it's only appeared 3 times while I've been using the computer. I tend to keep it on when not in use, but don't monitor it's activity 24/7, so it could be happening more frequently than I think.
I contacted Apple support to document the "sitings" (I feel like I'm some paranormal psychic) and they've recommended me to return the product from where I got it (BestBuy - Southern Ontario doesn't have mac stores unfortunately).
Anyways, I'm planning on returning the iMac tomorrow in hopes that a new one will be the fix of this issue, but thought I'd put this out there to anyone else who might have this problem or know of someone who is currently encountering it and going "wth!"

  • Has anyone seen this phrase - Future Pro Player Edition?

I purchased it, I got a key to enter. I enter it. I get this line following the key code - Quick Time Key: Future Pro Player Edition.
I get no access to any fo the advertised Quick Time Por benifits. My requests for support from Apple leads only to a run around. No one seems to be able to explain what this is all about. Any suggestions? I have run a search using those key words in every data base I can find and get no responses, including this forum.

I have the same problem on a laptop that was just delivered. I installed quicktime version 7.1.3, and then loaded the just purchased quicktime pro key. The system says that it is Future Pro Player Edition. I suspect that since the original system had quicktime 6 installed, something remains in the registry which makes that quicktime pro still think it is quicktime 6. I have made numerous requests to the apple store for help with their product, and all they could do was direct me to this web site.
Any ideas as to what I can do? I have uninstalled quicktime and then reinstalled it, but the error remains.
