MacBook Pro (2007) line across bottom 1/4 of screen
Hi there,
I have a MacBook Pro from 2007 and just recently there has been a line across the bottom 1/4 of the screen that has been flickering. It's now just become a permanent fixture.
Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
I had the graphics card replaced 2 years ago as there was an Apple fault with the card.
Its driving me nuts please help.
Have the graphics chipset (it's not a card--it's soldered to the logic board instead) checked again. There are reports of the Nvidea 8600M GT failing twice.

Lines across bottom 2/3 of screen
The bottom 2/3 of my screen has lines running across it - one band of horizontal lines and one band of vertical lines. Almost exactly the same as the lines in this image (http://www.appledefects.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:BandScreen.JPG), except mine has a second band of lines.
I know this problem has been dealt with before, but I haven't found a solid answer (see this discussion: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6698227).
When I twist the screen HARD I can get some of the lines to go away, but they reappear as soon as a stop twisting. I've tried to repair the problems myself by taking apart the display and adding some additional padding in an effort to improve the LVDS cable connection. This hasn't improved the problem at all. I've found information suggesting that the problem is either the logic board, the LCD display itself, or the LVDS cable.
Does anyone know how to tell which part is the source of the problem? I can't afford to have someone else do the repair, but I'm really desperate to have a working computer again.
Thanks so much for any insights you can offer!See Article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues

Problem with battery for MacBook Pro 2007
I have a problem with battery that was replaced during video card service 1.5 years ago
Battery health was around 80% and it stopped to work, I continued to use notebook with power cable and after week the battery become like this!
spoke with person in Apple store and got answer that it is not covered by Apple and I will need to buy another new battery.
For me it looks like manufacturing problem and I'm not expecting that after 1 year my battery will die like this! Thanks that it didn't explode!
What I should do in such case? Thanks for your reply!
All my battery story is ending with bad taste...
I always relied on quality of the Apple products, it brought me to change all computers and phones to Apple brand. I was ready to pay extra for their products...
This battery has an Apple brand on it and I'm expecting that Apple will take some responsibility for it.
First battery on my MacBook Pro 2007 worked without any problem for 4 years, then it was replaced by Apple service tech person for unknown reason. This "new" battery failed just after ending of 1 year warranty coverage and even deformed in such scarry way. And now I don't have any option to ask if there is possibility that I'm experience a manufacturing defect! And I know that it is possible, internet is full of negative comments for these batteries!
Now I'm asking myself again, if it worst to buy Apple products? Are these products have proper quality? -
Hi,
I recently bought a Macbook Pro 2007 and admittedly coming from Windows I am a relative novice with Macs. So, I made a purchase without realizing the important role the original OS disks play
I checked the OS and it says it is running OS X 10.5.8. I had a go at installing a different OS on a partition, but got an error message saying: "Filesystem verify or repair failed".
So, not being all that familiar with Macs, how do I go about installing a new OS? I am pretty clueless with that stuff on the Mac. Do I need to have the original OS disks in order to install a more recent OS? Or can I use the 10.6 dmg file that I have to install from a USB?
If I were to purchase a more recent OS (than the one that came originally with the Mac), would I be able to install that? In all cases I do not need to back up any of the existing data.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
ThankIf you want to erase the computer's hard drive to rid it of the previous owner's leavings (always a good idea with a used computer), and then install Snow Leopard, that should all go without a hitch. The present Leopard installation will be wiped along with everything else. But the iLife applications that were preinstalled on the machine at the factory and included on the discs that were originally shipped with it are not part of the OS and won't be included in the Snow Leopard installation. You'll need to purchase and reinstall those separately, and you can do so either by buying an iLife '11 installer DVD from an Apple Store, or by buying the individual iLife apps that you want from the Mac App Store. You'll have access to the App Store after applying the free OS updates to the final version of Snow Leopard, v. 10.6.8.
Once you can use the App Store, you'll also have the option of downloading the upgrade to OSX Lion, if your computer meets its system requirements. -
Can I take a hard drive from a different laptop and replace it in my MacBook pro 2007
My MacBook pro (2007) has failing hard drive. Can I remove the hard drive from a different laptop ie. Toshiba, or HP and replace it with the failing hard drive?
yes you can....but any files/data on the other drive will be gone. also make sure that the drive you install is a SATA drive which is in your Macbook...
make sure you have your original install disk if you plan on doing a clean install. -
I have an older macbook pro 2007 and imac intel 2006 model. What if any issues should I be aware of if I upgrade to Lion and what will not work with my computers. So far, I have read that my Microsoft office 2004 will not work and possibly my wireless HP printer that is at least 4 years old.
Any PowerPC apps will not work. Open System Profiler, select Applications from the Software section. Look for PowerPC in the Kind column.
Additionally, check for other software compatibilities here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
For Printer compatibility, check here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 -
I purchased Macbook Pro i5 in March 2011. Now the screen has problem; one vertical blue line is in the screen (at the right side). I noticed this last week when I opened the macbook and now I am always seening it. I am seeing the blue vertical line always in the screen. However, I am not seeing this line when I open Word, Excel, PowerPoint files (without pictures). But I am seeing this line always when I see movies, pictures, and all the files which have pictures. Please do let me know how can I remove this vertical blue line (blue tint) pernamentally from the screen.
Regards,
UjjalBackup your files to a external hard drive and disconnect.
Call Apple and make a warranty call, then take it to the nearest Apple Store etc.
You can run these things and it might clear your issue or give further informaiton

What is a good solid state hard drive for a Macbook Pro (2007 model)?
What is a good solid state hard drive for a Macbook Pro (2007 model)? I imagine they're still expensive, but I'm curious which would be good picks if I were to go for it.
I am using the Corsair P256 (256 GB) SSD. It is actually a Samsung drive. It works well, but will only give you part of the speed advantage due to the fact that the MBP from 2007 only has a 1.5 GB/s interface, while newer MBPs have a 3.0 GB/s interface.
Impact on battery run time seems to only be an increase of 15-20%.
Boot time on my MBP is 40 seconds to login prompt. System seems very responsive. -
hi, i got Macbook Pro 2007, OS X 10.5.8, I would like to update my system, which one I should choose? tks
Mountain Lion is the current version of the latest OS, with Mavericks coming this fall.
However, I would suggest that you simply upgrade to Snow Leopard -> http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard. It's a very good, very fast OS and, best of all, it can still run those PPC apps that you may be using.
My 2¢...

I have a MacBook Pro 2007 and I installed Mac OS 10.6 but I lost power in the process and now the mac doesn't recognize my hard drive, how can I fix this
I've tried it but since I'm using a USB disk drive it keeps freezing up or showing you a folder blinking folder with a question mark. (?). When I start the mac up I hold the control button until the Mac OS install disk shows up. My hard drive doesn't show up anymore. Is there any other button I have to hold down to bring a different menu up. I have also tried to boot up holding control and C and nothing happens. Thanks for the help so far

MacBook Pro(2007) won't shut down completely
MacBook Pro(2007)-Leopard
When I go to shut down the computer, I click on the shut down now or just let it do it's own thing, and everything is fine until it gets to the part where I get the spinning gear cirlce.
It just keeps going and going and going....until I have to force the computer to shut down by pressing the power button.
Unless I reboot and shut down again(usually works second time), the computer will not come on when it is scheduled to in the AM.Make sure you quit out of all programs prior to shuting down if you have not done so.
Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu. -
Why didn't Apple update it's 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina line up?
I plan to buy a new MacBook Pro Retina to replace my MacBook Air, I've been waiting for months to see if Apple update it's 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina line up, but on Spring Forward Apple did not update it, does any body know why and when will apple update it's line up? Also I will do a lot of coding and video editing with my new MacBook Pro, which model should I take, or what will suit me the best, the 13inch Retina MacBook Pro or the 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro?
Thank you guys for your answer, and sorry for my bad English.Intel hasn't released the Quad Core Broadwell chips yet, Intel recently announced mid 2015 for these chips.

MacBook Pro 2007 battery not recognized, not charging but working
I recently bought a new battery for my MacBook Pro 2007. As said in the title, it seems to work alright, but it's not recognized by the computer (X in the battery icon), and I don't think it's charging.
I tried to reset the SMC, no change. Unfortunately, I don't have any other computer to test my battery and my powercord on, to see if it's coming from either one of them. And I don't have an Apple Store around.
Do you have any suggestions ?MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air: Battery not recognized after being fully drained

My 2007 MacBook pro won't boot up beyond a White screen any ideas what to do?
My 2007 MacBook pro won't boot up beyond a White screen any ideas what to do?
Odd how this hasn't been archived yet.
I'm getting the same thing with my Macbook, but can't boot past the white screen. An Apple store in KS suggested I needed a new hard drive, but I've already put two in there and it's still doing the same thing. I really don't want to buy another motherboard like I had to a couple of years ago.
My choices are either buy a cheap drive to boot from and remove the current one to put into an external case, or save the money by not buying a new motherboard and putting it as a down payment toward a Mac mini.
