  • MacBook Pro won't sleep for more than a few seconds

For a few months now my late '08 MBP has been intermittently refusing to sleep. When I close the lid, the system will power down to sleep mode, the Apple on the top goes out and the power light will fade off and on as expected. But after a few seconds, the cd drive whirrs and the system powers up again and I have to choose Apple Menu > Sleep, because closing the lid doesn't work.
It's an intermittent issue: sometimes it'll sleep first time, other times it needs to be told to sleep from the Apple menu three or four times to persuade it to get some rest.
I've tried the usual suspects: Turning off Bluetooth, PRAM, SMC...anyone else have this problem?

  • After installing the 8.1 update the Internet Sharing won't allow any devices to stay connected for more than a few hours.

Internet sharing is turned "on" and appears to be working, but really isn't. Locking the screen, restarting, or a hard reboot helps, but it is extremely aggravating not to be able to maintain a connection for more than a few hours at a time!

Thank you so much for the info! I apologize for having asked for your device model as that is the forum you posted to. Also, I know that we've set the expectation that the device will remain connected as long as a demand for signal flows through it, but that may not be entirely the case. After a period of constant use, any device (including the Lumia 822) may require or force itself to stop.
You've mentioned that the device will freeze after a few hours usage. Is the device also connected to the charger while being used as a hotspot? If so, do you notice the device getting warmer than it normally would be?

  • Ipod will not stay connected for more then a few seconds

I was going to update my nano this morning after downloading the newest version of software, and first off it said the firmware was corrupt. so then I restored it, and it would not restore to the new version so i used the older version. the ipod seems to work in my hand but when i connect it to my computer it will not stay connected for more then a few seconds, then it ejects its self, but itunes still shows it as being there even though the rest of the computer does not
I have not had any issues with it since i bought it which was last june.
    any ideas?
    John

    Hi John,
I would suggest, with your iPod disconnected, that you force your iPod into disk mode (following the instructions in this article)
Connect your iPod to your computer.
Then, try restoring it in iTunes while it is connected in disk mode.
Can you successfully restore your iPod?
If so, when the restoring and resyncing process is all complete, now update your iPod to the latest firmware.
    Any success with trying that?

  • Macbook Pro Airport Won't Connect When Macbook Pro Bootcamp Will

I have a Macbook Pro 2.16GHz Core Duo that has had problems with Airport connectivity since I got it. I can never get anyone to help me with it because it will never show the problem at the Apple Store.
One place that I have to work at has been very, very frustrating.
They have a number of access points called Wireless #1, Wireless #2, and so on. Every access point is a Linksys-Cisco WAP54GP. All of them are on channel 6. They are using a WEP 40-bit hex key with the same key on every AP. They don't understand the obvious flaws in their system, they will not change it nor help me...at all, so there's no point in suggesting things along that route.
I know that their network and their key works, though, because if I reboot into Windows on the SAME machine it works fine and the connection is great. Mac OS, however, will not connect and will not tell me why. All it will say is "There was an error joining the network." I have read suggestions saying that you have to put a $ or "0x" in front of the key to signify that it is a hex key (which I don't have to use on other WEP hex key networks), but when I try to type that in, the password dialog will not allow the characters $ or "x" and it beeps at me.
Does anyone have any help for me?

It will connect to other networks with and without
WEP. It will connect to other networks that use
    WPA.
There are many networks, though, that give me the
"There was an error joining the network.", and I
    don't know why.
I cannot enter a $. As I stated previously, the Join
Network dialog will not allow me to enter that
character when it is set to WEP 40/128 bit hex.
Also, as I have already said, I cannot change the
network to WPA. I understand the benefits of WPA
over WEP, but I am not the network administrator.
They will NOT change their settings. I know the
network works with Windows on my computer. What is
it about Mac OS that is preventing this?
Prior to the last Security Update, I believe 2007-02, broke access to 2wire Routers. It was very frustrating to me as well. The fault or problem, I believe, may lie in a firmware update to these routers. I performed one for my 2wire router and I am now able to connect.
    My theory...

  • Macbook Pro won't turn on more than a few seconds.

    Hi everyone,
I have a Macbook Pro 13" that I bought in November 2011. Last night it began having issues and won't turn on. I can hit the power button and the light in the front will turn on, the hard drive and fan turn on, but then after maybe 5 or 10 seconds it shuts off and then starts trying to reboot again. It does this over and over. First the light, then the hard drive and fan turn on, then it turns off and starts to try to turn on again. I can leave it on the table and it will just keep doing this. Every once in a while it sounds like it is completely booted but the screen stays black. I know it isn't the hard drive because I tested a brand new one in it last night and it did the same thing. I recently had to replace the dc in-board part because it wasn't connecting to the charger. I didn't have any problems until I did this. Could anyone tell me if they've had the same problem and what you did? I've tried holding down different keys (option, control, etc.) when it starts like other boards have suggested but so far nothing has worked.
Below are the directions I used to replace the dc in-board. Maybe when I took it apart I injured another part that causes the mac to be able to start.

  • Macbook won't charge or run off mains for more than a few seconds

Last week my Macbook power adapter seemed to fail - the light had disappeared and my battery slowly ran out of power. I tried using a different power cable into the adapter to see if the fuse had gone, but this made no difference. After trying several plugs and trying to use it with the battery removed, I decided to purchase a new adapter.
This worked instantly - the light came on and my Macbook was no longer dead. However, this only lasted for a few seconds or minutes, when the light on the Magsafe plug went out and the Macbook powered off again.
After trying several things I realised that the problem wasn't really with the adapter - it seems to be with the Macbook itself. If I disconnect the power cable from the adapter and reconnect, the light comes on and it charges again. This happens when the battery is in the Macbook, but also when there is no battery and I run just from the adapter. I can run the laptop pretty much indefinitely as long as I'm happy with 0-10% power in the battery and continually disconnecting and reconnecting the adapter, literally every 30 seconds or so!
Any ideas whether this is likely to be the logic board or just the power connector inside the laptop? I've tried resetting the SMC already (by disconnecting battery and adapter then holding down the power button for 5 seconds) but that has zero effect..

I too have problems charging. The macbook and macbook pro adapters seem flawed; if one looks into the problem on any of the many forums, you can see that this problem is widespread. The dang adapter works intermittently. There seems to be no rhyme or reason behind when it 'decides to work or not,' I think it is somewhere in the vicinity of 65% off and approximately, 35% on; in other words, it works properly only about one out of three times. When I first got the macbook it might have been a bit better but this problem of intermittent charging might be getting worse. All I know is several times lately, I have had to wait until randomly retrying it got it to function and by then my battery will have exhausted down to below 10%. Has anyone discovered any tricks which help kick this adapter in? I have heard rumors of a recall but that is all it is, I believe . . .

  • TP Unable to See Wifi networks for more than a few seconds

I've read a bunch of wifi related posts on these forums but none seem to be the same problem as mine.
My touchpad rarely, if at all, sees any networks. If it sees my network it usually loses it before I have a chance to finish typing in the password. I can wait, sometimes up to 20 minutes for it to finally see any networks again and try to login again only to have it lose it and start searching for networks.  Manually typing in the network tells me no network with that name can be found. I managed to set my android phone up as a hotspot (without any security) and connected to it long enough to get through the setup and reboot, then it was back to not seeing any networks, not even my phone.
    Things I've tried:
    - Sitting 2-3 feet from the router
    - New router (bought it the same day I got my TP)
    - Disabled all security
    - Tried setting router to 802.11b only, g only, mixed, different channels, rebooting router
    - MAC filtering is not enabled
    - Resetting the TP (power + home) sometimes gets me a connection for a few seconds.
    - I have 2 android phones, 2 laptops, a home theatre, and a wireless printer that can see my network and my neighbors networks all the time and have no problems getting and staying connected.
    - Did the 3.02 upgrade by usb to my computer
    - Toggled wifi, toggled airplane mode
I called support and had my TP sent in for warranty. I received a new one (serial number and MAC addresses are different so it is a different device), but it's doing the same thing.
I called support again and did all the usual troubleshooting and the guy felt like I do, very confused how it's losing ALL networks so often. I'm taking it to work where there's an open wifi network I can test it with and do the 3.02 upgrade (new TP came with 3.0 installed).
Has anyone else run into this? Is there a bad batch of TPs with faulty wifi chips or antennas? Is the TP just not compatible with my Cisco E1200 router (and causes it to stop seeing all networks?)? Does anyone else have any ideas? I'm at a loss and find it hard to believe having this one exchanged as well will be any different.
    Thanks,
    Brad

Are you broadcasting your SSID? Sometimes this can cause a problem connecting. Is this Cisco router running any turbo modes or special preparatory protocols.
There are no know issues with Wi-Fi connectivity except on first connection; and the chance of 2 devices having the exact same issue is very unlikely. This sounds like something to do with your wireless router.
Have you tried to connect to another Wi-Fi hotspot elsewhere?
Do you have any 2.4 GHz wireless phones or security system that could interfere with connection?

  • Why won't my iPod let me listen to music and videos for more than a few seconds?

When I press the music icon, my iPod goes to my playlists for about 2 seconds, appears to flash, and then returns to the home screen. What should I do??

Try the basics from the manual:
    Restart.
    Reset.
    Restore.

  • MSI GX630 - My turbo will not stay on for more than a few seconds

I have the laptop plugged in to AC and when I enable the turbo , it says turbo on then almost immediatly it says turbo off and turns back off. Some times it will stay on for up to about a min, but it never will just stay on. Do I have a bum cpu that can't handle the over clocking, overheats, and then it automatically reverts back to normal cpu speed or what? Anyone else have this problem? It is not that big of a deal, but if they are going to sell a laptop with a turbo option, I think they should test it to make sure that it works with something that taxes the cpu and can handle it.

  • HT203167 What happens when you pay for a  movie rental on iTunes that does not play for more than a few seconds?

I rented a movie but it only played for a couple of seconds and then it stopped and kicked me back to the iTunes rental page again. This is after I rented the movie earlier in the day on my iPad and discovered I could not play it back through my Apple TV. What do I do now? Do I keep trying to rent it again and again, each time incurring a new rental fee?

  • IPod not turning on for more than a few seconds or recognized by computer.

Hey, if anyone could help that would be great. I have an IPod 2G with 3.0 software. The problem started that when I plugged my IPod into the computer it would charge, but ITunes would detect it and Itunes would lock up. As soon as I unplugged the Touch Itunes started working again.
So, I went into the Touch settings and hit reset. The thing got about 75% done erasing files and the battery died. Now when I turn it on it shuts down after a few seconds and Itunes still doesn't recognize it.
    Any ideas?

  • HT1338 my macbook pro airport won't turn on! What would be the problem?

my macbook pro airport won't turn on! What would be the problem?
I've tried to turn the airport on and it says my airport card is not installed...
it has always worked till today... bot from now on nothing seem to help the airport work...
    Please help me!
    Thanks

You could try deleting the airpot from the sidebar of system preferences/network. To do this,
    1)  export the preferences for your airport to your desktop by pressing the gear next to the plus and minus sign above the lock.
    2) Delete your airport from the sidebar using the minus sign while the airport is selected.
    3)  After deleting the airport, apply the changes and then press the plus sign to create a new airport.
    4)  Then import the preferences back in and apply the changes again.
This may bring your airport back.  It worked for me.  Alternatively, people have been having success with changing the location of the airport.
    Good Luck.

Please identify the model number of your AirPort Express (A1084, A1088, A1264?), the brand(s) and model number(s) of your other networking equipment, and how it's all connected. When you launch AirPort Utility and put the AirPort Express into "manual setup" mode, what value do you see for "Connection Sharing" in the Internet panel, "Internet Connection" tab?
