MacBook Pro - Apple vs. BestBuy
I am interested in purchasing a MacBook Pro but I would like to have some help in why should I purchase through Apple or an Apple Retail Store versus Best Buy? Best Buy appears to have a lower price than the Retail Store but what am I missing? HELP!!
I would agree with what OG says but add you have to compare the machines very carefully. Often the machine at Best Buy, or other big box store, is not the current machine you see at the Apple store. That is, Apple periodically "refreses" their machines with faster processors. The BB machine may not be that latest machine so the bargain price is actually for a previous iteration of the machine.
Best Buy in my area has a very bad reputation for taking returned merchandise and putting it back in stock and reselling it...so you get something bought, used a little, returned when you think it is brand new. Make sure the box has the Apple sealing and has not been opened and used.
The warranty is the same, whether Apple or a reseller. Apple honors that irrespective of the store it was bought from, unless it is a grey-market place then it gets dicey.

Restart, pressing command-R to go into OS X Recovery. From there, use Disk Utility to "Repair disk" if possible.

I'm all Mac across the board: iPhone 5, Macbook Pro, Apple TV etc. I can't get the movies I've purchased on my Apple TV to appear in my iTunes library for viewing… Any suggestions? I have iTunes Match turned on and everything.

MacBook Pro & Apple TV Conflicting
So the other day my family bought Apple TV and today we installed it. I was on my computer as we set it up, and now everytime somebody uses the remote, and presses the up or down arrow, my volume changes. It does this even if I disable WiFi and Bluetooth on my computer.
I run Mountain Lion and I am on a mid-2010 MacBook Pro if it helps at all. I was thinking this was an AirPlay issue, but my computer doesn't support AirPlay.Nevermind, I solved it.

Has a solution been found for the lag between apple tv and macbook pro?
The lag is slight but slows down then speeds up and feels like I'm having an epileptic fit in slow motion!
I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) and using OS Yosemite V 10.10.1 and just bought the apple tv 2 weeks ago- but can't see where I find what gen or whatever it is.
I'm using Google Chrome and have tried Saffari but the lag is still there. The lag does not occur when using Ipad.
What's the latest apple?

Installed the game on macbook pro, started the game but i want the game to show/play only on the TV. If i extend i won't be able to drag the game window into the TV to play it there. I don't want the game to show on both my macbook and the TV. Anyone!!

AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, and OS X Mountain Lion. OS X Mountain Lion is 10.8, so open > About this Mac, and check if your OS X version is 10.8.
If your Mac isn't compatible, you have to use a third-party app to mirror your MacBook Pro onto the Apple TV, as AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com -
IMac vs MacBook Pro + Apple Display
First off, my apologies if this is not considered appropriate for the board.
I have an 2009 MacBook Pro and love it. My iPad is increasingly taking care of my mobile computer needs. I tend to use the MBP at a desk and portability comes in handy for trips.
With the new iMacs coming out and with the new MBPs I am wondering:
1) Have you made the switch from a MBP to an iMac? Any regrets?
2) Any of you using a MBP and Apple display? (another option I'm considering)
3) If you have used both an iMac and MBP, have you noticed any major differences in performance?
Thanks in advance!!I've done that, the display on a MBP on a display and ultimately I opted for an Imac. It was not performance per say, through the IMAC has a better card if you need it and get a good config, for me it was working in an uncluttered space.
I love my MBP but the Imac feels more open to me for a long wrok environment, I prefer the magic mouse to the trackpad and love the larger HD space. I use both, sometimes at once as I do alot of 3d artwork and the rendering times can sometimes take a while so I need the second system for doing other things.
I think really it just comes down to personal feeling and if you think the MBP does that for you that's great. Possibly head down to the apple store and muck about with an Imac for a little and see how you feel it . -

for outlook agenda and calendar I use Google calendar sync it works quit well.

MacBook Pro Apple Cinema Display issues
I’m using Photoshop CS6 through a MacBook Pro connected to an Apple Cinema Display. Files on display don’t always appear (work area is just blank, interface still there) and when I go to save, the save dialog box is off top of screen to where I can’t see but a small portion of the dialog box. Can’t pull it onto screen. Anyone else experiencing this?
I have a similar situation. I have spring 2011 macbook pro 17" (MacBookPro8,3). I was connecting to an older 30" Cinema Display HD, using the Apple dual-link cable with Mini DVI (Thunderbolt) and USB. I am running 10.6.8.
I was running this configuration for a while (closed lid/"clamshell"), but it stopped working.
I'm pretty sure this is from the "Security Update" that I just installed.
No amount of reboots or cable jiggering helped.
Except this wierd thing: if I connect the USB and display to the laptop, the display stays dark. If i disconnect the USB cable connecting the DISPLAY to the CONVERTER, the screen comes up fine.
I just plug the keyboard into the laptop and it works. Of course, unplugging the CONVERTER USB from the LAPTOP makes it go away (?!). So I've lost a USB prot with this little hack.
Try messing the USB connections and see if you get any changes.
I have no idea what to make of this bizarre behaviour, but it is making me crazy not being able to reliably use my desk setup with this nice laptop.
I hope someone can offer more data or help. -

AirPlay Mirroring requires an Early 2011 or later MacBook Pro, so you can't run it. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
To mirror the display to the Apple TV, you need to use an app like AirParrot or Beamer, which give you the same features as Apple's AirPlay Mirroring -

Where To Buy My MacBook Pro-- Apple Store or Online?
Does it make a difference? There is an Apple Store just a 15 minute bus ride away from my apartment. Considering I'm goint to get apple care anyway, does it matter if I get it on line or at the store? Pros, cons? What say ye??
I thought the 7200rpm drive was custom. It is in my area. Stock is the 120GB 5400rpm drive and 1GB or RAM.
You may need to order it directly from Apple.
Whatever you do, do NOT buy from MacMall or some other 3rd party. They may be a little cheaper and have some incentives, but consider this:
I ordered my 17" MacBook Pro from them on 4/26/06. They didn't ship to me until 6/8/06! Meanwhile, Apple was shipping within 7 days since the beginning of May, and the Apple store had plenty of them available.
If you think that issue is resolved and MacMall has plenty of stock now so the wait is not that bad...wait, there's more...
I'm having issues with my system, and I called Apple. They told me I needed to get a new system because it's defective, but since I purchased it from MacMall I would need to call them about it. I did, and MacMall told me to call Apple back because they have a "no return policy" on Macs. What??? So I call Apple and they tell me they're sorry, but that I will need to send it in for repair.
I should have purchased it directly from Apple and paid the tax instead of paying for the Apple Care, which is not doing me any good now anyway.
So you have 2 options - go to the store and pick up whatever they can sell you, or order it directly from Apple where you can customize your order and get it within a week or two and actually benefit from Apple's support. From now on that's the only way I will ever go. -
Macbook Pro & Apple TV in Ad-Hoc mode
I have a 802.11b router and am connecting to the network with my laptop and apple tv which I just bought today. The syncing takes forever. Is there any way I can make an ad-hoc network with my laptop and my apple TV so I can get a faster sync? This would be a great way for me to sync until I get a faster router.
I got it. I plugged in my laptop directly into the Apple TV via an Ethernet cable. Set the IP addresses on both machines, and worked fine. Instead of the movie taking 1hr+ took like 3 minutes. Much better.
