Macbook pro connects to airport extreme only 50% of the time

Hi,
I have a mac book pro that i use with an airport extreme unit. When the laptop comes out of hibernation it does not connect to airport extreme. I have to put it back to sleep and start for the second time for it to connect. Any ideas on what the problem is?
thanks!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Hi Laurent,
although I was given the advice earlier that I should simply take the machine back to the shop, or call the help centre, I ended up just praying that it would be OK.  A couple of days after I posted the message I think there was an update to download and install, just a regular one from Apple from the Software Update option for the operating system or it may have been one for Final Cut Pro X, and once it installed I never had the problem again, so my prayers were answered.
It was pretty scary at the time because I thought it must be some hardware malfunction, but because it was resolved through an update it suggested it was a software issue.  Hopefully it is the same with you.
I'm now running 10.7.2 and have had no recurrence of the problem in many months, thankfully.
It might have nothing to do with it, but the only other two things that may have somehow caused errors in the system startup (and I doubt these will be "unrelated" to people who know how computers work better than I do, but I feel I should mention them just in case), but I also updated Final Cut Pro X from a glitchy version to version 10.0.2 around the same time, and I also had an application installed which didn't function correctly in OS10.7 called PowerController (a simple app that can start up the computer at a set time and play music from iTunes as an alarm clock) and it was in the group of apps that were set to start at the starting up of the computer.
Anyway, I hope your problem is resolved as easily.  Pray about it too!

    EmadJamal,
the battery won’t melt because of long connection to the AC charger, although that has the potential of reducing the battery’s life.
Do you have access to a second 60 W AC charger to test with your MacBook Pro, or access to a second 13-inch MacBook Pro against which your AC charger could be tested?

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.
    http://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowser/
Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

  • Macbook Pro cannot configure AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility

    Hi all,
I can't get my macbook pro's airport utility to connect to my airport extreme, and hard reset doesn't seem to work either. However, the airport extreme still functions properly... just doesn't allow me to reconfigure it.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Open AirPort Utility.
--> my AirPort Extreme router shows up with a green light (it's working).
--> Information displayed includes "AirPort Utility found an AirPort Extreme with 802.11n (Gigabit Ethernet)", with correct-looking gateway and IP information (version 7.2.1)
    2. Click "Continue"
--> Screen shows "Reading base station configuration..." with a little spinning icon.
    3. Wait 3 minutes.
--> During this wait, the green light stays lit on the router, my wireless connection does not drop, and the icon next to "Reading base station configuration..." continues to spin.
    4. Popup dialog appears: "An error occurred while reading the configuration. Please make sure your AirPort base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)". The AirPort extreme is sitting 2 feet from my MacBook Pro, connected only by wireless internet.
At this point, I wonder whether hooking it up with an ethernet cable would work better. So I did the following:
    1. Turn off Macbook Pro Airport wireless card.
    2. Connect an ethernet cable from the laptop to the 2nd port of the Airport Extreme
    3. Wait 60 seconds for DHCP etc.
    4. Close the Airport Utility (from the last test)
    5. Open the Airport Utility again
    6. My Airport Extreme router is again displayed, the same information is present as before.
    7. Click Continue
--> "Reading base station configuration..." message with spinning icon appears again.
    8. Wait 3 minutes. During this time, as before, the green light on the router stays lit, and nothing much seems to happen. I ran a "ping google.ca" from a terminal window just to verify that my internet stayed connected during this process, and the pings all responded fine.
    9. Again, an error popup: "An error occurred while reading the configuration. Please make sure your AirPort base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)"
At this point, I decided it might be a good idea to do a hard reset. I pressed and held down the tiny button on the back of the Airport Extreme for 6 seconds then released... no visible result. Green light still on. Then I tried for 11 seconds. Still no result, green light still on. I restarted the router, waited for the green light to come back on, and tried again with 6 seconds then 11 seconds again. STILL no result.
I can't think of anything else to try. Any suggestions?

The Windows "Airport Setup" version you need for the Airport Extreme N base station is not really available for download - but you can get it if you are up to following this procedure:
    1. download "AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002 for Windows" from Apple's web site
    2. use a Winzip utility to extract the contents of the file you downloaded (called Airport521update.exe) to another folder.
    3. the contents of that folder should include four files - applesoftwareupdate.msi, apsetup.msi, apsetupadmin.exe, and bonjour.msi
    4. go to All Programs -> Accessories. Right click on the "Command Prompt", select to "run as administrator", and click continue when Windows asks for your permission to run this command.
    5. in the command prompt window, type and execute the command
    msiexec /i pathto_folder_of_files_youdownloaded\apsetup.msi /qb ap50isinstalled=1
This method simply forces the installer into thinking Airport 5.0 is already installed, thus letting the installer complete its job of installing a full working copy of the updated version.
This procedure also installs Bonjour for Windows, which will simplify the task of configuring on the PC any printer connected to the Base Station.

  • Setup for an iMac G5, a MacBook Pro, and an AirPort Extreme

Any experience I've had with computers was in the early 80s, yes, it is very sad.
I purchased a G5, the laptop, and the AirPort and have been able to set everything up and get everything going. Just amazing.
I've only run into one issue.
I have access to the Internet via a cable modem. My G5 sits on my desk. I would like to continue to use wire with it. I would like to be able to use my laptop in wireless mode.
At present, if I want to switch between machines, I have to unplug the cable from the back of my computer, move it to the AirPort, power down the cable modem box, power it back up, power up the AirPort. Not knowing what I'm doing, it was the only way I could think of to accomplish my goal. It works, but it is a pain.
What can I do so that I have the ability to have the G5 wired and the laptop wireless.
    Thanks,
    Sheila
P.S. Please type s-l-o-w-l-y and remember I'm new to all of this. : )

What can I do so that I have the ability to have the G5 wired and the laptop wireless.
Looks like you already have all the necessary components to do this. The following would be the suggested network configuration with the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn):
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN port] AEBSn [LAN port] > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] iMac G5, AND AEBSn > (wireless) > [built-in AirPort Extreme] MacBook Pro
In this configuration, you should be able to access the Internet both via wire for the iMac and wirelessly with the MacBook Pro.
The following would be the basic set up steps, using the AirPort Utility (in Manual mode), for a cable modem connection...
AirPort Extreme Base Station Setup (AEBSn) w/Cable Modem
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the Cable modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
Perform a "hard" reset of the AEBSn. (optional)
    - (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451)
    Setup the AEBSn
Temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN ports of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Mode, check these settings:
    AirPort - Base Station
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>

  • External HD connected to Airport Extreme only seen by one network computer

I've connected a MyBook external HD ("HD") to an Airport Extreme base station and configured it using Airport Utility ("AU") from my new MacBook Pro ("Pro"). The Pro sees the HD but my other two networked computers do not. I've run AU on one of the other computers to again configure the HD and the result is that again only the Pro can see the HD.
Other networked computers are an Intel iMac (Core Duo) and Intel MacBook (Core Duo).
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Yes, this is as you indicated earlier and all of these settings are so designated. I have been to the Apple Store and the Genius enabled one of the two computers (I did not bring the other to the store). This was done by (1) repairing disk permissions and (2) installing a clean copy of Airport Disk Utility onto the computer directly from CD. Unfortunately, these two steps did not work on the computer that I did not bring to the store. I'm running DiskWarrior to be certain this is not a permissions problem, but it seems highly unlikely that the permissions are the issue. A possible solution is to install Airport Disk Utility only via disk and not via drag and drop.

  • Problems with Macbook wireless connection to Airport Extreme

I have been experiencing an issue with setting up and connecting my Macbook (new in April 08 and running OS X 10.5.5) and a new Airport Extreme purchased a few days ago. Essentially the Macbook struggles to connect wirelessly, or even to recognise the airport extreme. When connected directly using an Ethernet cable their are no problems (this is ultimately how I configured the airport extreme). The airport extreme wireless connection works faultlessly with my 3G iPhone and the Macbook seems to connect fine to other wireless networks. Anyone got any ideas / suggestions?

It sounds like we may have similar problems. I have a new MacBook Pro and I just bought a new AEBS 802.11n. It shows up intermittently on the MacBook available networks and I can only occasionally configure it using the airport utility, but then it fails to connect after that and I have to reset the AEBS and start over. Curiously, the AEBS shows up consistently on my iPhone, so I think this is a problem on the MacBook side. Unfortunately I can't configure the AEBS via the iPhone (at least I don't think I can).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • MacBook Pro and new AirPort Extreme issue

    Hi All:
I just bought a new MacBook Pro and Airport. other computers and a wii in my house seem to keep the the connection, but with the MacBook Pro i need to set up the connection every time, as I have the SSID broadcast0 turned off. Has anyone seen this before?
I have attempted to reset my keychain and the MacBook Pro remembers the wireless router at work? what could I be doing wrong?

Yes, just do the downgrade to 7.4.1. The support article is the typical nondescript article that neither indicates if it is a bug or not. This is quite irritating since I've been using an Airdisk for TM since Leopard was released (almost 2 years now). Originally you had to do hacks with "defaults" and touching files to get it to work. Then last year one of the firmware updates no longer required any hacks. Now they bust it.
It's busted because otherwise they wouldn't let TM pick the drive. They'd either present an error dialog stating it's not supported, or the Airdisk wouldn't even show up. Instead, the drive keeps falling off the network. That's something crashing inside the router. I wouldn't be surprised if the drive falls off the network when placed under any load. Apple's QA sure let us down.

  • Why won't my Macbook Air connect to Airport Extreme?

I just bought my Macbook Air, May 2014, and it's not connecting to my triangular-shaped Airport Extreme which I've had for years. Airport Utility on my computer finds it, it just won't allow me to connect. Went online looking to see if there's something I should download, but I'm stuck.

  • Connecting 3 Airport Extremes. Is WDS the best method?

    Hi all,
got an issue with my Aiport Extreme (AE) setup at work. We have 5 floors, and 3 AE on floors ground, first and second.
The current setup is ground is the WDS main with first and second set as WDS Remotes. Ground is connected to our network through Ethernet, as well as the second floor one. (To improve data transfer from our servers to Mac users using the 802.11n protocol.)
So all three AE create and power one wireless network for the staff to us.
    PROBLEMS:
*Using Airport Utility I can't always see all three AE.*
*The second floor AE can't seem to see the first floor WDS main AE.*
*Having to reset all three box's on a regular basis.*
Have i set this whole thing up wrong? is there a better way then using WDS?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

""OK the one on the ground floor is the WDS main and the other two are WDS Remotes, i have turned off interface robustness on all 3. However the WDS remotes still have an error message that they cannot see the WDS main Airport Extreme. ""
There's a long laundry list of possible issues when doing this with WDS...and no advantage to using WDS.
My recomendation was, and still is, not to use WDS on Extreme's with "N" capability. If your extreme's look like mac mini's you have the "N" capable one's.
If you look up the documentation for the extreme and focus on "extend a network" only and stay away from WDS, the below considerations may help.
On your main extreme, the one connected to the WAN, you enable "create a wireless network". Do not select participate in WDS.
On your additioanl extreme's you enable "extend a wireless network". During this process, you should be able to select the right drop bar at the end of the network name box and select you network.
When enabling extended a wireless network, all the WDS tabs on the additional extreme's disappear and are no logner configurable.
Now, if you tried to set these up using WDS, you may need to blow away the configs on all the routers individually by selecting the restore defaults option. If you need to start from scratch, the best approach is to turn off all the routers, and turn them on one at a time, restore to factory defaults, then turn off the router until all are reset.
Remember, if you see errors that talk about no ethernet WAN connection's on the additional routers, you are still in WDS mode....once you put the additional routers in extend a network mode, the WAN interface gets turned off.
Also, using an ethernet cable to setup the additional routers makes the process easier....if you go with the ethernet cable route...turn off the aircard.

Even tried to unpkg the update manually and mount it via the [sudo bless -mount / -firmware /.../MBP71_0039_0BB_LOCKED.scap] command. This gives the following error:

I copied the version number from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1331. That may be a misprint or typo on Apple's part. I'm posting a message asking about that in a special forum available only to level 4 or 5 users that sometimes gets replies from the folks that maintain those articles.
If I hear anything that confirms that, I will post back here, but for now I think it is safe to assume "B05" is correct.

  • New MacBook Pro 13" Fans spinning loud and fast all the time?

I was curious if anyone else that just ordered the brand new 13" MacBook Pro which I got one and a half days ago has their internal fans spinning constantly? MIne are going really fast now for over an hour and all I have open is Safari, iChat and Skype. I'm curious if this is similar to the update Apple released for my early 2008 model 15" MacBook Pro a couple weeks ago for the fans due to them spinning at a high speed. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

I just did some more searching on Google and found this article to be helpful and the fans seem to have slowed down to normal operation and the Finder is only using 7% CPU now.
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041209181913938
I only relaunched Finder and it seems to be running the fans a lot slower not sure if I will have to follow the rest of those steps if relaunching Finder doesn't fix it permanently. Let me know what everyone else thinks.
