Macbook Pro doesn't recognize monitor - extremely frustrating!

I have had this problem ever since I started trying to use an external monitor. Essentially, when I plug in my cable (mini display to dvi, dvi to hdmi) the display blinks blue, but my monitor doesn't turn on!
Everything is plugged in, the monitor works fine with everything else, so it must be the macbook.
I googled this topic and it looks like nobody really has a solution but I figured I would try here anyway.
Eventually, if I try for literally an hour, sometimes my monitor will turn on. I don't do anything differently, just sit and plug and unplug the cable. The cable is also good because it works for other devices. This is so frustrating because what's the point of an expensive monitor when I can't use it?!?! Apple is going to lose me as a customer if this isn't fixed.

You say the cable is good because you have tried it on different devices but what about the adapter? Have you also tried the adapter with different devices? If not, it could be a bad adapter.

After completing the upgrade to Yosemite, my Macbook Pro doesn't recognize purchased audio cd's.  Help!!

    hi russeel!
when i first upgraded to 5.0.1.4 i panicked for a while looking for that tab (and the Burning one) ... the subtab that i find kind of strange is "Advanced-General". Generally Advanced? Not Tremendously Advanced?
    okay, we've gone up a

  • Macbook Pro doesn't recognize Flip Mino camera in USB port after Yosemite upgrade

Since I upgraded to Yosemite, my Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my Flip Mino camera in the USB port.

I don't use FLIP, but if you get no other help here,
    consider the following ideas.
    If neither restarting your Mac
nor reinstalling OS X fixes your
    problem, you might find some
help if you search or post in the

  • Macbook pro doesn't recognize internal speakers

my macbook pro  doesn't recognize internal speakers and there is a red light inside the headphone port.  How can I get the speakers working again?

In addition to what dominc23 suggests, you may try jiggling a toothpick or cocktail stirrer in order to trip the internal switch.  If all fails, the Apple store genius bar is you last resort.

  • Macbook pro doesn't recognize camera on image capture

My MacBook Pro doesn't recognize the built-in camera for a lot of my applications, including Image Capture. It doesn't show up anywhere in my system preferences. Any idea why this is so?

    (1)  Mac's built-in camera does not work with Image Capture.
Image Capture works with external devices like scanners, some iOS devices, some cameras and RAM cards, etc.  Click this link for more info about Image capture and some of the apps that can work with your inbuilt camera.
Click here for info about how to use Image Capture to transfer images from a connected external camera.
For more info about Image Capture functions, see Image Capture > Help on your Mac or the Apple pages in this link.
    (2) To test for application-specific problems mentioned in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight " article, use apps like Photo Booth, QuickTime Player, iChat, FaceTime, or others intended to work with your Mac's inbuilt camera.
    (3) To test for user-specific problems mentioned in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 the "How to Troubleshoot iSight " article, you must have more than one user account.  Do NOT use the "Guest" account.  Click this link if you need help creating new accounts for testing.

  • Macbook Pro doesn't recognize iPhone 4Gs

Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my iPhone 4Gs
    My Macbook Pro 15 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) doesn't recognize my iPhone 4Gs (iOS5.1)
Suddenly it stopped, last time was April 11 via Wi-Fi.
Now even with the device plugged it can't be recognized.
On iPhone Settings, the "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync" tab is grayed.
Few days ago iPhone started to behave strangely, refusing to power off, sometimes not charging when plugged to USB port, sometimes does.
    Don't know what to do.
    Thanks in advance
    best

What kind of phone is this? an iphone 4? or an iphone 4S? ( note there is no such phone as an iPhone 4gS)
What you describe here is in my eyes the beginning signs of accidental damge, such as water damge of some sort.
This is a great oppurtunity to see if the same issues you are having when connecting to your computer, replicate when conencted to another computer.
You need to find out if there is a way to test with a new USB cord if possible to rule that out.
Trying to isolate this to, or away from the iphone.

  • HT5172 My new Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my card reader (with a CF card inserted).

My new Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my USB card reader with a CF card inserted.  It works fine on my old Macbook Pro.
Do I need a new card reader?  USB 3 perhaps?
I would appreciate any input that you may have.  Thank you.

Hi, closereaching. Instead of spending 12 hours reinstalling your operating system and getting everything back up to date again, which probably won't accomplish anything, why not buy a $10 USB card reader for your Casio's SD card? Or (more expensive, but a much more elegant solution), an ExpressCard SD card reader that can stay in your computer all the time?

  • Macbook Pro doesn't recognize DVD

My MacBook Pro doesn't read some DVD's! I'm trying to install my camera's software, but the drive doesn't read the DVD! It just make some odd noises and then ejects the disc. However, it can still read discs I burned on my other Mac and it recognizes blank CD's and DVD's! Is anyone going through the same issue?

It's the DVD for Mac. And I'm having the same problem with other DVDs. The drive just recognize blank discs and discs burned on other macs.

  • MacBook Pro doesn't recognize iPhone when USB connected

I have a MacBook Pro, an iPod, and an iPhone.  Using the same usb port and cable I have the following situation.  The MacBook Pro recognizes both other devises in iTunes through the internet.  The MacBook Pro does not recognize the iPhone 5 when connected by cable but does recognize the iPod.  Because of this I can't transfer photos from the iPhone to the MacBook Pro.  When connected the iPod shows it is charging but the iPhone 5 does not.  Using the same cable connected to the wall charger both devices show they are charging.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  Thank you.

  • Macbook Pro doesn't recognize my fast track pro c400

Hello I am using Fast track pro c400 from M-audio.
When I use the fast track pro c400 it works.
However, when I disconnect it from my Macbook Pro and reconnects it,
MIDI setting recognizes it again but this time with out any available input and output.
So when I use mainstage or garageband, it recognizes that there is 1 midi input but
when I go to setting it doesn't uses fast track pro's input, output instead, it uses built in I/O.
So i tried to reinstall my driver and when I did it, it worked again for few time and
    same problem occured.

okay, I had connected my MBP to the base station and managed to restore the base station to factory settings. So, my MBP recognized the base station, although there's something weird about it.. you know how when you open the airport utility, on the left hand column, usually there should be a picture of your airport extreme with the name below it, right? Mine doesn't show any picture except the orange dot and my base station name.
In addition, my MBP airport is able to pick up my recently-made network, but unable to join the network. Again, when I opened the AirPort utility, it can't detect my airport extreme wirelessly.
I have tried every method that I can think of, but my MBP won't recognize the airport extreme anymore, wirelessly.
Please tell me what should I do?

  • New MacBook Pro doesn't recognize camera

I just upgraded from my old G4 PowerBook (with iLife 08) to a new MacBook Pro (with iLife 09). I have two cameras, a Nikon D60 and a Casio Exilim Z850. The new MacBook Pro and iPhoto 09 have no problem recognizing the D60... however, the Casio isn't recognized by the new computer/software; all I get is the infinite spinning beachball. My old G4 PowerBook / iPhoto 08 still recognizes the Casio just fine... however, I'm not planning on keeping the G4 PowerBook for much longer; the MacBook Pro was intended to be a replacement. Now I'm just trying to figure out if there's any way to get the new computer to communicate with the Casio. Granted, the D60 is a much nicer camera... but sometimes all you need is a good point-and-shoot that fits easily in your pocket, so I'd like to be able to keep the Z850 if I can find a way to get the new computer to recognize it. Any thoughts?
