Macbook Pro Fan Continues Running After download Error -- Please Help so Loud

Hello,
I recently tried to download the Citrix reciever application onto my Macbook pro. The installation was taking an excessive period of time and it was obvious that something had gone wrong in the download because it had taken several hours and was stuck at a certain step. I tried to cancel the installation but it wouldn't allow me. So I force quit the installation and thought that it was shut down, but I was mistaken. The next time I opened my computer the fan was running at an increased rate and was very loud and the computer was heating up. I tried to restart the computer and it said that the program was still trying to download and that the computer could not be shut down until completed. I got frustrated and basically forced a power down by signing out and holding the power button or something of that nature till it shut down. I waited overnight and then powered it back up but nothing had changed and the fan was still running like crazy but it says the program is not trying to install anymore though. I checked the activity level and CPU but nothing is out of ordinary of high. The program is not anywhere on my computer either so I have no idea what is going on and cannot figure out how to stop this fan running like this. It is draining my battery, overheating my computer and is annoying too.
Any help, hints or ideas would be greatly appreciated or I will be forced to visit the apple store for some help I guess.
Thanks,

Unfortunately, spoke way to early.  The fan issue is still a big problem.  From the second the machine is turned on, the fan cranks up.  Frankly, I think this is overheating the machine to some extent (running the fan at max speeds when it's not even warm).  Additionally, the noise caused by this has only gotten worse, and now it is even making a "whistling sound."  Looks like I'm going to be making the trek to the Genious Bar, but based on comments by others on this issue I am not optimistic about a fix.

  • My MacBook Pro isn't running well, can someone please help?

Hi! I Purchased my MacBook Pro new about four months ago. It has worked fine until roughly two weeks ago when it suddenly started running slowly. It went from taking a few minutes to start up to over twenty. When I type, the screen is non-responsive even though I'm hitting keys, and will fill in two or three lines at once before ceasing to work again. Every application I I try to open gives me the spinning wheel for about ten minutes before opening a window, and then every time I click on something, the spinning wheel reappears and it takes about two to three minutes for my laptop to respond. This happens with every application I open and with everything I click on. Even if I only use my laptop for a short period of time, it overheats and the battery drains rapidly (For example, I've been on it for about an hour now and it's gone from 100% to 58%). There are a few other things going on, but my laptop has basically been made unusable, which is horrible since I'm at college and need to use it for everyday schoolwork. If someone can please help me, that would be fantastic.
Just as a disclaimer: Microsoft Word usage is at 100% because I'm trying to copy and paste a quote into a paper I'm writing. The app has been non-responsive for fifteen minutes and still hasn't pasted the quote, if that gives you any indication of how severe this situation is.

  • Screen stuck on gray, used shift key and my screen appears with MacBook Pro and not the recovery option. Please help

Screen stuck on gray, used shift key and my screen appears with MacBook Pro and not the recovery option. Please help!

    Hi ..
Shift key boots into Safe Mode, not Recovery.
This only works on a Mac running v10.7 Lion or later.
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery
If you can't boot into Recovery Mode, help here >   Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

Theres almost a trick to it for first time users, goto SETTINGS...General......Cellular (if Verizon) ....Personal Hotspot, turn it on.....turn on wifi on your Mac, select your Iphone.  Enter password.
If you take too long doing it, youll need turn turn off and on real quick the "personal hotspot" slider on the Phone.......then go quick again thur the Mac.

  • What is causing my Macbook Pro fan to run constantly?

Hello. Recently my Macbook Pro fan has begun to run constantly at high power. I've checked the activity monitor and even when there is little RAM or CPU this occurs. I am wondering if the issue is the hard drive because the I am seeing spikes in disk activity at random times even when I am not using the hard drive. The computer is actually heating up when the fans are on at full power, so this also leads me to believe it could be the hard drive. I have already tried resetting the system management controller. Any other ideas? What should I do about this?
    Thanks a lot.

Try raising the the the machine with wood, or , plastic botttle caps t get it up an inch or so, that way there is more air flow under the MBP to help with the air flow to help keep the cooling more een.  Hope this helps.

  • HT4150 When trying to upgrade from 10.6.3 on a Macbook Pro, the update runs into an error before completion.  No info is given about why, is this a known issue?

I'm trying to update a Macbook Pro with 10.6.3.  The latest using Software Update does not complete downloading.  After 475 Mb an error message says it can't connect to the update server.  I tried incrementally updating to 10.6.4. It downloads, starts to install, and just before finshing the install gives a "software error" message and quits.  Is this a known issue, and how can I get around it?

    Try running the combo updater.

  • Macbook Pro fan keeps running (2011)

Hi there,  I recently charged my 2011 13" Macbook Pro to 100%. Upon using it in class for about 2hours the Fan was constalny running and CPU raging on high. Moreover, the battery goes down to 20% in this time period. For reference, I only had Google Chrome, Mail and Word open in this class period. Whats going on? As I type this to you, the fan is this going strong and my battery in 20%
Any ideas? Should I contact the Apple store as I do have an Apple Care Warranty on the machine
I also have a Curcial 512GB SSD in the machine but this is the first time this is happening in the 3 weeks use in the SSD installed and upadted to Apples latest update a few days ago
    Thanks

Just to narrow things down a bit.
I had the same problem and discovered the following.  When using Firefox, my battery ran out of time faster, my mac was hot and fan ran periodically. When using FF with Silverlight, battery time was even worse, fan almost always on and computer was hot.
On 3rd test, I moved all my open pages from FF to Safari and have been testing the battery time with FF closed and Safari open. So far, my fan has not come on once. Going to watch a video online to see if it's better as well. My diagnostics show Silverlight, by far, is a power hog, FF was the next biggest problem but not bad.
    Basic details from rough testing.
6/21/12 with Silverlight running in FF
1.34 min at 12.39 pm  full power on screen, full charge
    .32 min at 1.39 pm
    just over 1 hr.
6/22/12 - activity monitor open, FF, no silverlight.
3.47 min at 9.38 am 3/4 power on screen, full charge, silverlight off and on.
    .19 min at 12.28 pm
    Almost 3 hrs.
6/21/12 after recharge. Full charge, 3/4 power on screen lighting. All work in Safari, FF closed.
4.39 min at 5.55 pm using safari and not firefox.
    3.59 at 7.02 pm
    waiting to see.
    Hope this helps anyone.

  • Macbook Pro fans constantly running, Safari hangs up and/or crashes often.

My 2012 Macbook Pro (10.9.2, 2 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB Memory) has been acting up a lot lately. The fans are constantly running even if major apps (mail, safari, itunes, messages, etc.) are closed. Safari, in particular, has been hanging up and/or crashing recently for no real apparent reason. My battery has been draining out faster than usual.  I've always tried to be very cognizant to the health of my computers and phones and try to limit the amount of apps and files I download, sites I visit, etc. I've already done Verify Disk and Verify Disk Permissions in Disk Utility, reset Safari numerous times, disabled all extensions, removed unnecessary apps, and altered settings in Energy Saver, all to no avail. I'm a grad student so I only use my laptop for Safari and Microsoft Word and put it to sleep when not in use as often as possible. Also, my battery was at 56% about 23 minutes ago and is now at 38%.
Below is a list of the processes using the most memory in Activity Monitor:
    kernel_task                                   429.4 MB
    Safari Web Content                      127.7 MB
    com.apple.IconServicesAgent     122.8 MB
    WindowServer                              65.6 MB
    mds_stores                                   52.1 MB
    Safari                                            43.6 MB
    CVMComplier                               34.7MB
    Memory Used     3.80 GB
    Virtual Memory     4.00GB
    App Memory          1.34 GB
    File Cache          1.45 GB
    Wired Memory     998.4 MB
    Compressed          332K
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

    plane928,
have you tried resetting your MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller?

  • Macbook pro fan suddenly running more

i've had my macbook pro for about 3.5 years.  last year, the battery was replaced.  it's been running fine but suddenly i notice the fan running a lot more.  first it was when i was using my screen saver which is an aquarium - it used to run silently but now the fan is on when it's running.  now the fan is running when i'm playing a simple arcade game on-line.  again, it used to play silently but now when i play the fan runs.  this is a sudden thing that just started happening.  any thoughts?  do i need to take it to the shop?

    Check Activity Monitor
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1473?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, take the computer to the Apple store.
    Best.

  • Macbook pro fan constantly running on high

Hello i have a problem with my macbook pro
as soon as i start my macbook pro early 2011 up the fan goes immediately on high speed and when i look on on istat it says that the fan in going 0rpm but when i push above the F6 and F7 it suddenly stops and the fan goes to 2028rpm i have tried the smc reset and such and that doesn't work at all. I have looked at activity monitor and there was nothing strange as well so please does someone know how to stop this, its really annoying.

Most intereseting.  The display shows temperatures at very acceptable levels but zero fan speed.  That cannot be.  Try a Apple Hardware Test:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
You may have to use the OPTION and D keys to start it.
Lets see if that picks up anything.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro won't run after sleep

After closing the lid it goest to sleep. But when I come back to turn it on I find that the light indicator is on and solid. And when I open the lid nothing will work, screen, keyboard light, volume, even the power button. The only solution I found for this is to hold the power button for about 5 sec then it will be force shutdown then turning the laptop again.
Does anybody know the solution for this?!

I am having the same problem.  MacBook Pro will not enter sleep mode (white LED does not pulse but remains steady) and will not "wake up".  I end up restarting with the power button.  I have verified and repaired hard drive with disc utility.  I have also searched for firmware updates; only one available that may be an answer (MacBook Pro EFIU Update version 1.9) is not comaptible with my computer.  would appreciate any other ideas anyone may have to solve this problem.

  • Downloaded Downlite to my MacBook Pro without knowing it was harmful. Please help?

    Hey everyone,
This is my first post to the Apple Support Communitites. I have just downloaded the program "Downlite" to my MacBook Pro to download Rosetta Stone.
I know, I was not supposed to do this. I had heard of others doing this with ease and was stupid and tried. Now, a popup from www.myvdrive.com pops up every time I am on Safari. There are also bogus ads when I am searching anything on Google. I have since switched to Mozilla Firefox, but would like my Safari to operate normally.
Can anyone please help? I am awful with computers and have no idea what to do. Thank you so much in advance for any recommendations!
    -beesont

You may have installed the "DownLite" adware, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
After moving all the files, restart and empty the Trash.
This unwanted program is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How can I download Microsoft office excel  for my MacBook Pro Mac OSX version for free. Please help me!

How can I download Microsoft office excel for my MacBook Pro  for free?

You can't. Excel is a commercial product sold by Microsoft in an Office "package" and not as a stand-alone product.
If you need to be able to open and save Excel documents on your Mac, however, you could try the free LibreOffice.
