My MacBook Pro get hot at the bottom when its charging, should I be worried?

Battery charging does work on the battery so some heat build up is normal...if it feels hot enough to you that you think it is a problem, drop by an Apple genius bar and have it checked out by the techs to be sure all is ok.

I have a NewerTech external charger with an inbuilt battery calibrator. It provides 2 charging methods: it either fast charges or conditions (calibrates) the battery. Fast charging, which fully charges the battery in about 2 hours, causes the battery to noticeable heat up. However, conditioning, which discharges then recharges the battery, is so gradual that the battery remains cool (at ambient temperature).
The charger has 2 slots (for 2 batteries) and will charge or condition 1 or 2 batteries but not at the same time. For example, it will fast charge one battery and when finished switch to conditioning the second battery. This charging regime means the universal power supply connected to the charger can be less powerful (and smaller), i.e., it will deliver sufficient current to fast charge one battery at a time. Batteries may be left in the charger which automatically switches to trickle charge when continuous charging finishes.
The heat generated by the battery in the MBP is caused by fast charging and whilst I have never made any temperature recordings of the base of my MBP I can confirm that sometimes it gets so hot that it can be painful if in contact with the skin, e.g. resting on ones lap. This is normal. The battery also heats up when the MBP is running solely on battery power. Excessive heat could indicate a battery fault and it should be removed and examined immediately as any distortion, e.g., swelling, can damage the MBP.
An external charger/conditioner is useful if you have a spare battery, or two.

MacBook Pro hot when idle

I resently installed an SSD in my MacBook Pro and a DataDubler to have my orioginal HDD in the SuperDrive bay
I don't know it that has to do with anything but resently my mac is running hot (80ºC) while doing nothing. it idles with 2-5% usage... and if I turn op the fans to full and still doing nothing it get's down to 60ºC and it's in power savings mode (with only the 9400M graphics card)
is there anybody that has experiens the same, and know what to do...

I have exactly the same problem. I don't know if i'm obsesed with my macbook pro temperature, but before the ssd upgrade (i have made a Fusion Drive with one Samsung SSD 840 + Apple Retail 500 Gb 7200 HDD), the temperature was under control with my fans at 2000 RPM. At 86ª, my fans were at 2000 rpm and when my computer reaches 92ª or the process has been consuming cpu resources during a long time, my fans usually went faster. Only in that case!
But with my new install, and my new ssd, at 75ª i have my fans at 2500-3000 rpm. What's the problem? I have been comparing the cpu temperatures and are very similar, but the speed of the fans is always bigger than with only one tipycal hdd.
Of course, my macbook pro has all the content indexed, trim enabled, and my cpu is completely ilde!!! at 0%, 3000 rpm. That's unacceptable!
I have been reading about the problems of the nvidia MCP79 chipset. Apple has limited it's hdds to 1,5 gbps, but with the new ssds, we are forcing to the system to go at 3gbps. This will cause an increase in the temperature of the chipset (obviously is running faster and making more operations per second than before the update), but i'm not sure if this is the guilty success.
Any suggestions?

Macbook Pro lags when charging.

My Macbook Pro seems to lag very badly when charging since I updated to Yosemite a day ago.
But on the contrary it runs smoothly when unplugged.
I thought it was supposed to be other way around?
I am puzzled.

Hi , I am basically having the same problem.
I downloaded Yosemite Beta 3 few weeks ago, and this same problem occurred. I wasn't able to do anything with the laptop as it loads all the time. I contacted Apple and they told me I should restore from my backup which enables it to get back on Mavericks. When the official Yosemite was launched, I installed it, and now it has the same problem. The laptop lags like crazy everytime the charger is plugged in. I am unable to Skype, watch a movie, browse the internet, open an App or even type a document while the laptop charges. Im not sure of the solution, but will try calling apple again. Safest bet is to downgrade to Mavericks by backup i guess. Oh yeah, i have about 150+ Gb memory but when i checked dick utility it shows I have 18.6 mb free space and the other 36 GB.

My macbook pro will not charge when I am using it. My battery will say "charged" then "not charging" and it goes back and fourth. It says "Power Source: Power Adapter". But when I use my pro it will loose the power source then reconnect a second later to it. This problem is getting annoying because I have to stop using my macbook pro to charge it.

Some basics please, what vintage is your MBP, have you plugged anything else into the wall socket to verify that it is live? which light doesn't turn on, the charger or the MBP?
Hold the power button down for 15 seconds, wait for 2 then press it normally and see te MBP it turns on

The MacBook Pro charging circuit will charge the battery until it reaches 100% charge and then switch to power mode for the MBP. When the battery drops to 93-95% charge the circuit will switch back to charging mode to top off the battery charge again. You will not harm the battery or MBP by leaving it plugged in most of the time.
There are many good headphone/microphone combinations on the market, best really is more a function of how much money you want to spend. Check those offered in the Apple on-line store for features/price to see what would best fit your needs. You can also look at audio equipment suppliers, all the earphones need is a standard 3.5 mm plug.

You might want to try using another charger in case the charger is faulty. If that doesn't help, take the MacBook Pro and charger to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test the system to see where the fault is.

My Macbook Pro is not charged even though the battery is at 95%. This is my first Macbook therefore I dont have any knowledges about it. Macbook Pro (Early 2011) charging problems

Hey Guys,
The Macbook Pro was bought in July of 2011 which is only a few months old .When I plug in my magsafe to charge the macbook pro it turns green, then orage to show that it is charging. However, after a few mintues of charging the orange LED light goes off and it stops charging, then the orange light comes on to charge for another few mintues then stops charging. I have been aren't to charge the macbook pro
Is the charger broken? I cant find or see anything tearing in the charging cable or anything broken with the power brick.

First try resetting the SMC...
Reset SMC of a MacBook or MacBook Pro’s with an internal battery:
* Shutdown your MacBook/Pro
* Connect the power adapter to your Mac
* On the MacBook/Pro’s keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time
* Release all keys and the power button at the same time
* Boot your Mac as usual
Then try resetting the PRAM...
Resetting the PRAM
You reset the PRAM by rebooting a Mac and then immediately hold down theCommand+Option+P+R keys, you will then hear the Mac reboot sound again, signifying your PRAM has been reset. You must hit the key combination before the grey screen appears otherwise it won’t work.
If those two tricks fail, take the adapter and the laptop to the applestore. IMO it sounds like a battery issue and not a charger problem.

My macbook pro won't charge due to an electric shock that was caused from a charger that was in a bad condition, the computer didn't turn off when it happened but it stopped charging. When the battery died it refused to charge with any charger, I even bought 2 new ones. I sent it to apple and they are asking $650 for fixing it! The problem is that the macbook is only a year and a half old and I live abroad where there is no apple branches or any of that. I had to send it to the USA first. Also, I might lose everything saved on the macbook after fixing it! Any solutions? please help!

Respectfully, I disagree with your claim that nothing is wrong.
While I understand the behavior is by design, most users - myself included, believe that when the laptop is plugged in, it's charging and can operate indefinitely as long as it's plugged in. Instead, a Macbook will, in certain circumstances, shut down completely if under heavy load for too long. Heavy load isn't just rendering complex 3D designs or transcoding HD video - things many users will never do - but it does include activities as seemingly trivial as playing videogames or watching Netflix where playing for too long when the battery is significantly less than full exposes the user to a very possible shut down.
Just this evening, my MacBook Pro (2011) nearly died while transcoding video in Final Cut Pro - while it was plugged in. This is a real problem for a pro user on the road. Simply being plugged in is not enough when historically it has been.
Again, I understand that the MacBooks exhibit this behavior by design, but it is a design that is counter to most people's experience of electronics.
Rather than have this simply be "the way it's designed," how about Apple consider providing an option that reduces the maximum system load to a lower threshold that will allow for effectively indefinite runtimes (keeping in mind engineering concerns like heat dissipation)? I'd be willing to deal with lower clock speeds (and the resulting lengthier processing times) in certain scenarios of my choosing if it means my project won't be exposed to an unwanted shut down like it nearly did tonight. This is feedback I intend to submit to Apple after tonight's episode.
While I'm no longer concerned that something's wrong with my MacBook Pro, I don't believe the current "normal" behavior is good enough for a $2,000+ laptop for professionals.
