Hello Betty7,
Please let me take a moment to say "Welcome" to the HP Forums.
I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see that you are having an issue with getting the printer reinstalled.
I suggest that we start off by running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  If the Doctor fails, please let me know where it fails as well as any error codes it may generate.
Thank you for your time.

    try this.
get back into your router's settings and start deleting devices that are not connected to your router.
you can also delete the ones that are connected - they'll connect again.
on the DHCP side of it, increase the amount of users that can connect/log in to your router.
see if that sorts it out for you.
    good luck.

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. See if better. If still problem clean charging port again with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol.

  • I've lost the use of Appleworks in 10.9.2. Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other?

I've lost the use of Appleworks by upgrading to 10.9.2.
Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other? I'd like to be able to boot to the older OS when I need Appleworks and  few other applications that aren't available on OS 10.9.2.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello again, WZZZ,
Here's an update. I was successful in creating two partitions on my internal drive, and in installing OS 10.6.6 on the second partition, as per your guidence. I now have it up to 10.6.8 with all the security updates and AppleWorks. A great thing.
    Some thoughts:
    • The partitioning had one hitch; it failed at first. But once I "repaired" the disc with Disc Utility the partitioning went thru.
    • The partitioning took a long time in 'resizing the partition.' A few hours I think it was. Lots of progress bar watching.
    • If I had it to do again, I'd size the two partitions differently. My original data was occupying about 230 Gb of the 320 Gb disc. I made the new partitions share the space, about 230 and 75Gb. That left very little available space for the main disc. I ought to have put some breathing room in there. As it is, it's an incentive to clean up all those files, especially all those iTunes files. I now have about 10% of available space there and mean to continue deleting.
So, all in all a good project that got me where I wanted to go. Thank you for your help.
    Appreciatively,
    wallah

I interrupted a software update and my macbook pro will not boot. I have tried to reboot using the startup disc, I have tried to verify the disc, and repair the disc. It tells me I need to erase and reformat the hard drive then reinstall the operating system. I do not have a back up of all my applications, my garageband music and other things. I also do not have time capsule set up on this machine, but I do have a 2 TB time capsule.
Is there anyway to back up this corrupted drive so I can restore my applications later?

There's an old saying.  If you don't have a backup disc, then there must be nothing important to backup.  That's just lesson #1.  Lesson #2 is to never interrupt a software update.  Not a good thing.
OK, I'm sure you know this.  It just upsets me to read your story, knowing you have a lot of important stuff on your hard drive, and didn't use time machine.
You're pretty much in a bad place.  My only hope for you is to boot to your Installation Disc, then using disk utility see if you can save the internal hard drive (by fixing what can be fixed).  You might be able to see your user folder and some of your apps.  I wouldn't even consider copying the library, because who knows what's been corrupted in there.
    Good luck.

  • Macbook pro 2010 not showing hdd in disk utility but shows the same in usb

Macbook pro 2010 not showing hard disk in disk uility but same hdd shows when connected to usb original drive, also installed new hard disk 500gb, same result, but connected old hard disk of 500gb shows in disk utility and also able to installed os on it, tried installing lion 10.7 on it with the original and new hdd but not shows in  disk utility pls help for this problem

I'm kind of experiencing the same issue now.
A few days ago, when starting up my Mini, I would get a warning that the system didn't recognize the drive with the option to ignore. I hit ignore and all seven drives would mount. Because I have seven drives attached, I had no idea what drive was giving the warning.
Today that drive failed to load up at all. I ran disk utility and after several tries, it said repair was successful yet the drive will not mount.
I'm currently running recovery software on it to see if I can copy everything from it to another drive. It is a fairly old drive, about 3 years old so it's time is short.
I don't have any suggestions but mine does show in disk utility.

  • My quandary is how to transfer EVERYTHING from a Macbook pro that won't boot up to a new one, will the usual linking with a firewire lead still work?

I have an early intel Macbook Pro that wouldn't wake from sleep and won't now boot up, i'm just going to replace it with a new 13" i5 but i need to transfer the last five years of my life off the dead one to the new one, there's nearly 3 grand of music software and mp3's before i even think about the 10 years of photographs and videos, some of it is backed up but i ideally want to just transfer it all over.
what are my options? will linking the two together with a firewire or similar still be possible without the old one booting up (it still has power and turns on but the sleep light is constantly lit but very dim, the hard drive does sound like it's spinning up) or am I best removing the old Hard drive and putting it in an external case, would I be able to access directories and folders or could i boot up off an external drive or would there be hardware compatibility problems?
without sounding off i'd appreciate any complicated processes be explained in beginner to intermediate levels of "GEEK" i'm far from a pro but should be able to muddle through!!!
you've no idea how much any help with this will be appreciated!!!

Since the old MBP is dead the only option is to remove the hard drive and use a SATA/IDE to USB adapter to get all your stuff off the old drive.
One note though make sure you use the same user name and passord on your new MBP as you had on the old one.
As to software hopefully you have all the license information written down other wise you may have a hard time reinstalling some of it. Also be aware that OS X Lion will not run older PPC software. So if you have older programs that used Rosetta to run it will not run on Lion.
    Good luck with everything.

  • My MacBook pro will not start. There is computer speak all over the screen. It says Debugger called: panic. Anyone help? Thanks

I was playing COD4 when the computer locked and told me to force a restart.
When I try to restart it, it takes forever then the force restart message comes up and it freezes again.
There is computer language on the screen when this happens with the words " Debugger called:panic"
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Brent

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search, and select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents -- the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.

  • How do I find out what year my MacBook Pro is?  I want to know if I can use the mirroring function with my Apple TV if I download Mountain Lion.

I'm trying to find out if I can use the mirror function to look at large construction drawings using my Apple TV.  It says that my MacBook Pro has to be early 2011 or newer and I can't remember what it is.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro battery not even last me 2 hours even just browsing the internet or typing a document?

So my Macbook Pro 2011 that isn't even a year and a half old only lasts me about 2 hours of battery.  My brightness is set to only 4 notches most of the time and I mostly have google chrome and itunes or spotify open when I am using it.  I have to charge it about 2 times a day.  My old original unibody macbook lasted a longer time than this.  Today, my fans were running faster than normal and my battery drained 20 percent in less than a half hour.

  • HT3131 I want to have my macbook Pro desktop on my monitor, like clamshell mode, but is clamshell the only way?

    Hello people,
I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro. I am using my old monitor, and it works fine! I wanted to have the menu bar on my monitor as well, and I found out about clamshell mode. I plugged in my keyboard and mouse, and it worked like a charm. Everything was at a normal size and at pretty high quality! However, my keyboard recently stopped working and I don't want to get a new one. Is there a way I can change my display settings to match that of clamshell mode without actually going into clamshell mode? Thanks!

Clamshell without the clamshell? Kinda oximoronic, dont'cha think?
Given that you want the primary window to be the external monitor, "bless" it by opening System Preferences / Displays, arranging the layout of both displays as desired (yeah, both WILL have to be on) then click and drag the mini-menubar on the square representing the internal display onto the other one.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
If you are no longer able to boot your computer, then the drive is too full and has become corrupted. You may be able to repair it using Disk Utility on your Installer DVD:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this doesn't work, then you will have to erase the drive and install OS X from scratch. From the Tiger installer disc you will choose the Erase and Install install option.

  • Macbook Pro Display not waking from sleew

Alright so firstly I am aware of the ongoing issues with MacBook Pro's not waking up from sleep period, but that's not what is happening to me.
I've got a 2.5 GHz MacBook Pro, the model that is still currently selling. It always wakes from sleep just fine, except sometimes the display stays sleeping. I know for a fact that the comp wakes from sleep because if I sleep it with say an itunes song running when I open it up again the song will automatically start playing again. However, sometimes the display never wakes up, and just stays dark.
I have absolutely no clue either why sometimes the display wakes up fine and the other times it stays dark no matter what. Once it's dark, putting the comp back to sleep and waking it up again doesn't help either - the only thing I can do it shut it off and restart. Any given time that I wake the thing up, I give it about a 50/50 chance that it will wake up fine or the display will stay dark, and like I said before it seems to be totally random when it happens regardless of when I sleep it or what I am doing when I sleep it.
    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I'm not sure then. It could be one of four things: Hardware, firmware, software, or your PMU (Power Management Unit) which is a part of your computer's mother board that does exactly as it's named. It controls the flow of power in your computer and it turns things on and off like your airport card or your hard disks. It also plays a huge part in sleeping. So the PMU is my best bet. You can try resetting it to see if it helps. The article explains it better than I can. In the article they call it the SMC (System Management Controller) but its the same thing.
