Macbook Pro is running slow after mavericks upgrade
Hello everyone,
I recently downloaded the last update of Mavericks on my Macbook pro (13 inch, mid 2012).
Since the upgrade, my mac has been incredibly slow... I have tried different things including: completely re downloading and installing mavericks, running the apple hardware test (both short and long tests), I have tried to fix it through resetting the macbook to factory settings. None of my attempts were successful.
The Hardware:
Mid 2012 Macbook Pro.
Running OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks
2,5 GHz intel Core I5
4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
The Problem:
I updated Mavericks to its last version (10.9.4) and all of a sudden my macbook became super slow. It had no problem before, even under Mavericks, so my guess was it is a problem linked to this last version...
What I've Done Thus Far:
- Apple Hardware Tests (both long and short): All passed
- Reinstalled Mavericks
- Restoring to factory settings
Any suggestions on what do to?
Thank you!
Nathan.
ps: I ran EtreCheck, here are the stats.

My late 2011 Macbook Pro is running slow after Yosemite upgrade
Hello everyone! I'm a little desperate as this is my working computer and I'm not sure what else to do. I took it to a mac technician and they did a clean intall, checked my memory cards and said there should be no problem.
I get it home, install the basics programs I need for work- Adobe, Chrome, Firefox, iWorks. My computer is still running very slow. The start up is slow, the internet is very slow.
Here's my EtreCheck report. I hope maybe one of you can shine some light on the issue. Thank you in advance for all the help.
Problem description:
My computer is running very slow. Even the browser when switching between tabs will show a blank page for a few seconds before showing the actual page. It was rebooted and nothing. This problem started after upgrading to Yosemite.

2010 Macbook pro is running slow in Mavericks. Do I need more than 4gb ram?
My late 2010 13" 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro is running slow since upgrading to Mavericks. I currently only have 4gb of ram. When I boot up It takes quite awhile (nearly 5 minutes or more) before the system is usable. Or it takes almost as long to switch to another user. Once I let it sit, it runs fine. I'm mostly using Safari and possibly MS Word at any given time. I looked at the Activity monitor and I believe I'm using aboiut 3.6 - 3.9gb of physical memory and over 4gb of virtual memory. Swap is using 0 at all times.
Do I need more RAM? Wipe my drive and do a fresh install? I'm reluctant to do the latter, because I don't want to have to reinstall all of my apps (even witha TM backup).
Thanks allThanks Linc for any help-
Hope I didn't paste too much. Uninstalling CleanMyMac has already helped some. Here goes:

Macbook Pro still running slow after reformat
So my Macbook pro, which is about 3-4 years old now, just started running slow after the latest update i did, whichever the latest one was. Possibly a security update or whatever it was. So i decided it was time to reformat and just clear out the stuff on my computer so i erased the HD and reinstalled Snow Leopard. After all that it still lags and is slow. Its slow on things like scrolling down a web page, or opening programs, or when i use expose, it isn't super smooth like it normally is.
My MBP has 4gb of ram and 2.2ghz. I have also tried to repair the disk permissions, but didnt seem to help drastically. Any suggestions?Hi there,
Have you applied all updates? Using Software Update or manually? Checked for EFI and SMC versions?
Don't you have any clue from Console logs?
Repair as T posted and bring back news and info about your Graphic Card.
Good luck. -
Macbook Pro 2011 - running slow after installing Yosemite
Can anyone help me - my late 2011 Macbook Pro is running very slow since installing Yosemite. Also my Microsoft Office for Excel is not allowing me to type into cells - I can copy and paste but not add new text.
I have run the Etre diagnostic app (as suggested on another thread) and these are the results I get. Can anyone help - or do I have to uninstall Yosemite and how would I do this?
Problem description:
Macbook running slow since installing Yosemite - cannot type in Office Excel spreadsheets at all

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/libexec;clear;cd;p=(Software Hardware Memory Diagnostics Power FireWire Thunderbolt USB Fonts SerialATA 4 1000 25 5120 KiB/s 1024 85 \\b%% 20480 1 MB/s 25000 Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

My macbook pro is running slow after a month
Ok, so i purchaced a macbook pro about a month ago, no more. I have experienced minor problems with speed and browsing within this time period.
a few examples of this would be
extrodinarilly long starup times
after log in, around 20 seconds delay before it loads my desktop (it will stay frozen at log in screen)
frequently occuring SBBOD will all programs (including simple ones like safari, or pre installed apps)
random drops in fram rate and response time with applications. eg if i type/erase a word and pause the word will not appear for a moment; or if i scroll up and down there will be seconds delay in response befor it scrolls up or down.
low intensity apps taking extended periods of time to launch.
safari will not load web pages completely (blue bar will pause mid way through opening the page)
graphics like thumbnails on browser will not appear immediately on browser, or never appear.
computer generically acting sluggish and slow like an old computer
there are a few more minors ones, but none of them i havent seen on my pc.
These dont happen all of the time, but very often, and much too often for a 2300$ laptop
i have talked with my friends who also own macbooks and they say none of this happens ever. (they have owned them for multiple years)
i am a first time mac owner and this has not made a good impression, however most reviews i have read, and personal anecdotes from friends, seem to consider their macs to be great.
other than the recent, random dips in speed i love my mac
Specs:
2012
15 inch (non retina)
2.7 ghz 17 quad core processor
750gb 7200-rpmhard drive
8gb memory
NVIDIA GeForce 650M with 1gb memory
I Have already upgraded to Mountain Lion
Background:
i bought it for graphic design and i run it about 3 hours a day every day. i use programs such as photoshop, after effects, maxon cinema 4d, illustrator, while multi-tasking on the internet for the majority of the time. im not sure if this is working my computer too hard, but for 2300$ it shouldnt be a problem. however, these problems occur even when i am not running any applications besides safari.
ive tried all the generic steps like clearing caches, reseting permissions, etc. and i have plent of free ram.
Is it a problem internally? Should i take it to apple and see whats up? please answer, all responces are appreciated.First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
Take these steps when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting. -
MacBook Pro Stalls/Running slow since Mavericks Installation
On the advice of the more experienced here is a new thread.
Since installing Mavericks my MBP has gone from pretty much an instant response to requests, to stalling, the spinning pinwheel, longer startup and shutdown times, as well as slower access to websites (Chrome and Safari, though Safari appears slower).
I have been advised to run EtreCheck when I first joined a post regarding the same problem. I posted the results and was advised to work through some of the issues. This is the initial test result and the very much appreciated advice.
NOTE - EXTENSIVE TEXT TO FOLLOW.
I don't have a specific fix from your report, but I can point out what other users have had issues with.

Red is the items I'd look at these are mostly 'system level' - they can alter a lot in the OS. Check the developers website, update or remove the apps if the developer doesn't say it supports 10.9 or if you can live without them.
Soundflower is out of date & it is a 'kernel extension', the kernel is the core of the OS - you don't want any old code running here.
The installer has a removal tool too https://code.google.com/p/soundflower/ so update or remove it if you don't use it.
Update or remove Paragon's NTFS tool, it is running at a system level & it's background jobs seem to be in a 'problem state', it also has something running in the kernel.
Adobe has an updater running, try to ensure Adobe's apps are all up to date, just incase they have stopped checking. Repeat with Google's apps, just launch the apps & look in the 'App menu' or the Help menu for updates. These companies tend to reinstall the updaters if you try to delete them, so there it little you can do but keep the apps updated.
It's odd that all your User Launch Agents: are not loaded, these are background jobs that start on login (if they are in a loaded state). The same principle applies, update or remove the related apps if they are not needed.
CleanMyMac is a concern - there are lots of posts here claiming it can break the OS - it can help you to remove files that are installed by Apple which is not the best idea. I am unconvinced that running 'maintenance utilities' all the time is a good idea, however the app removal tool may be OK for cases where a developer doesn't have an uninstaller. 'Cleaner apps' use RAM & can spend time scanning files which can slow other tasks. Search here for varied opinions on CleanMyMac. I also use ClamXAV, ensure that is upto date & so check it's engine & rules are current.
The purple items are 'user level' items (run on login of your account).
There is a simple way to see if your issues are because of 'user level' items, create a new test user account & login as that user. If the Mac is stable you can assume it is something within your 'user items'.
Check that you need the Login Items running every time you login. They are listed in System Preferences> Users & groups > select your account… login items tab.
You appear to have 3 LogMeIn internet plugins installed - is Safari behaving OK or running slow? I would consider removing most plugins & then installing them as you need them. You can look inside /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ to remove them manually.
~/Library is your 'home library' Use the Finders Go Menu > Open Folder… and enter ~/Library to reveal it. Apple hid this Library folder.
I'd be tempted to remove the Java applet plugin - old Java is a real secuity risk & Safari has probably disabled this for you already.
There seems to be 2 Facebook plugins installed (probably inside your ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/). Remove the oldest one & look for the newest release. Update the Safari Extension if it needs it too.
The Preference Panes are installed in /Library/PreferencePanes/ and ~/Library/PreferencePanes/. Open System prefs & launch each third party pref pane (the bottom rows) & check for updates if possible. These also have an ability to modify the OS, so any errors could effect everything. You can usually right click (or ctrl+click) to remove them from the preferences (it removes them from the OS, but may leave any libraries or extra tools behind - see if the developer has removal instructions).
I see you have Plex installed, does this run very often? I find it can drag a Mac to a slow crawl when it is indexing. I suspect Connect360 may do similar things, but I don't really know for sure what it does .
MenuTab for Facebook seems to be doing something with RAM & CPU, update or remove if you don't need it.
That may all be daunting, but it should help. Start with the system level items, and then look at updating the other items. You may find things improve after a cleanup & a reboot.
This was extremely helpful and I have gone as far as my knowledge will allow for now. I did make a bootable clone of the main HDD prior to doing anything, and now there seems to be little improvment following the suggestions made. Also along the way MacFuse was deleted and well as Flip4Mac and NTFS.
Things are far from perfect though and the MBP still stalls and is performing very poorly.
I have run another EtreCheck, results below;

Macbook pro 13" running slow after update
After the iTunes update(version 10.7) and OS X Lion update that was rolled out a few weeks ago, my macbook pro 13" has been runnning slow at times. These are mainly those times when I am listening to music on itunes and browsing on safari (and no other activity). In case I am using more than these two applications, it almost certainly runs VERY slow and I am forced to restart. Without itunes, it runs fine though.
Any help anyone? The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Post any messages timestamped during that interval – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting. -
MacBook Pro Fan running fast after Mavericks update
Hello All! I have a 2009 MacBook Pro 13 inch and I have noticed that after I updated to Mavericks my fan has been running really fast and my computer getting warmer than normal. It's always on a table so there is nothing blocking the port in the rear. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Hey emilyiow,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your MacBook Pro in relation to the fans. Sometimes, this symptom can indicate that the SMC needs to be reset. For more information and instructions on how to do so, check out this resource:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht3964
After performing normal troubleshooting, these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset could be necessary.
Fans
- The computer's fans run at high speed although the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated.

What to do if you get an error in AHT
Confirm that the power adapter is connected if you're using a Mac notebook.
Confirm that all external devices are disconnected from your computer.
Record any error code given so that you can give the information to a Mac Genius, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or Apple Technical Support Specialist.

My Macbook Pro is running slow after the Yosemite update.
I updated to Yosemite before Christmas, and now I have been experiencing an awfully slow internet, which is nearly inoperable, on my Macbook Pro 13 (early 2011). Granted my provider is Comcast, but my roommate, who has a Macbook Pro 17 (2011) is experiencing no problems while running the internet.
I have no idea what to do.Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them; in that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Restart the router and the broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or the computer's firmware. Any change?
Are you connected to Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi? If so, disconnect the Ethernet cable or adapter and test.
If possible, connect to the router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?
Is networking always the same, or is the problem intermittent?
Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
If you're running a MacBook with the lid closed, open the lid. Any difference?
Start up in safe mode and test. Any difference?
Start up in Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Any difference?
If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference? -

There are other options, but they are likely to be very time-consuming with no guarantee of success. The recovery procedure I suggest below is simple, effective, and depending on the extent of the damage resulting from having used CleanMyMac and / or MacKeeper is likely to require a minimum of continuous interaction on your part.
It's not the only method though. If your Lightroom photos are the only critical work products you care to retain, you can simply copy them onto an external hard disk drive. If their aggregate size is such that a USB flash memory stick can contain them, that's OK too. Even 8000 photos are only likely to require a modest capacity device. Two or more backups on redundant media are always a good idea.
I recommend you install all your Adobe software as well as any other software you require from their original, unaltered sources. If they require license codes or similar means of authentication, be sure you have a record of them prior to erasing.
... I haven't been impressed with comments regarding TimeMachine.
Comments from ignorant people who haven't a clue about Time Machine don't impress me either.
Follow the applicable recovery procedure below:
If you have a backup that you created prior to using CleanMyMac, now is the time to use it. For Time Machine, boot OS X Recovery, and at the Mac OS X Utilities screen, choose Restore from Time Machine Backup. Choose a date preceding the installation of CleanMyMac.
If you do not have a backup that predates the use of CleanMyMac, create one now. To do that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.
The recovery procedure will require that you erase the Mac using OS X Recovery, and then create a new user whose contents will be empty. You will then be able to use Setup Assistant to migrate your essential documents including photos, music, work products and other essential files.
When doing so, select only your previous User account and do not select "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" or "Other files and folders". De-select those choices.
Subsequent to using Setup Assistant, you will need to reinstall the essential software you may require, once again remembering to install software only from their original sources, and omitting all non-essential software.
To erase and install Mavericks read: OS X Mavericks: Erase and reinstall OS X
To migrate your essential documents read: OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks and follow the procedure under Time Machine or other disk migration. -

How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
Try these in order:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -

Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop? An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac. Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options: ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck. You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is. If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it. If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache. Safari/Empty Cache Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top. If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance. Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
