Macbook Pro mini-DisplayPort to VGA input on a VIZIO SV422XVT

I am attempting to use my Vizio SV422XVT with my MacBook Pro via the VGA input. I've followed KatanaBook's advice in this post, but I still can't get it to function correctly.

I've created a custom resolution using SwitchResX with the parameters specified in the SV422XVT manual, but I still get a 'no signal' response on the TV.

ARiccitelli, have you tried running the [Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter firmware update|http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_FirmwareUpdate] to ensure that your adapter has the latest firmware revision?
I don’t have a Vizio monitor, so I can’t offer any advice regarding it; is your adapter known to work with other VGA-compatible monitors at your preferred color depth, resolution, and refresh rate?

I am having a strange problem. I have an original Apple mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and one non-apple mini-displayport to HDMI adapter. When I connect external monitor through either one of those it doesn't work unless i restart my computer. I tried different monitors but i see the same problem. Has anyone faced a similar problem? I checked online but didn't see any postings.
My macbook pro is relatively new (bought in april), i5 processor.

Macbook air Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter connectivity issues

Hi pple,
Would like to ask if anyone is facing connectivity issues with Mini DisplayPort to VGA?
I am currently using the 2nd Gen Macbook Air with Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB. Sometimes when I connect to a montior (Viewsonic VA1918wm) it works fine, sometimes it just does not work and the laptop just shows me a blue screen.
I tried with out with my friend's Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, it has the same problem. Does this means that my macbook air mini disoaly port got a problem?

I am experiencing the same kind of problem... only with projectors. Some projectors will display the screen and then others wont even register with the MacBook Air.
Using an Apple Min Displayport to VGA adapter. It's hit or miss if it works. Firmware has been updated on the adapter but this did not help.

MacBook Pro & Mini DisplayPort

I have been looking into options to upgrade my systems for photo editing. I'm now thinking about buying a 24 inch Apple LED Cinema Display to hook up to my MacBook Pro. My video output port is DVI (not mini-DVI). Is there an adapter I can use from my DVI to the Mini DisplayPort on the display? It is not clear from what I see in the Apple website. Also, can I plug in, and use, an external keyboard when the display is connected to the MacBook?

The discussion was started in October '08 (about 9 months) as that's when the MiniDisplay port was introduced on the Apple portable lineup. Currently, all "shipping" models from Apple come with MiniDisplay Port was the standard video out connection, the only machine capable of DVI is the Mac Pro with appropriate video card selection.
I'm sure when an adapter is made which supports "reversing" MiniDisplay Port to DVI then there will be enough topics on it. My understanding of how the technology works is that it's not possible, but the fact that there is development on it would indicate otherwise.
It reminds me of when Apple use to use their proprietary ADC hook up for their displays. I guess I had thought that with standardization of VGA & DVI we'd ok with using that for years to come. I guessed wrong on that, too.

Mid 2010 Macbook pro - Mini DisplayPort to Hdmi issues

Hi there! I'm having some issues connecting my mid 2010 Macbook pro to my 32" Toshiba LED TV.
I'm running OS X Version 10.8.2 , as mentioned before, on the mid 2010 Macbook pro.
The issue which I have, is that when I connect my Hdmi cable to my minidisplay port through the adapter, I keep getting a blue screen popping up.
I am using a Startech MiniDisplay to HDMI Adapter Converter and ION 6FT Flat HDMI CABLE.

I had issues with getting my MBP to work with my Vizio XVT323SV via the RGB port. What worked for me was downloading SwitchResX (http://www.madrau.com/indexSRX4.html) and setting up a custom 1920x1080 resolution using the values found in the Vizio user guide. Works like a champ now. Best shareware investment I ever made. Now I can watch my EyeTV recordings at full HD resolution.

Sidebar: I also bought the Griffin mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable, but I can't get any signal at all via that connection. The Mac doesn't see the TV and the TV doesn't see a signal. Very frustrating. My RGB connection is good enough but I bet HDMI would be even better.

My old setup was a late 2007 Macbook Pro 15" 10.6.3 connected to the same monitor I have now via Dual-Link DVI and it was crystal clear... It's hard to believe that the issue lies with Samsung, I've tried the same setup on my Sony Bravia in the living room, being that it's a much larger tv...I can't notice the artifacts as much but they are still present. Something is off.
My only other option I feel is to try a Mini Displayport to Dual-Link DVI but I chose the HDMI route for it's standardization and when I go to meetings/projections it's convenient to have one cable. Yes, I've checked cables, restarted everything ect... Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Switched to a Mini Displayport to DVI cable and it works flawlessly. Still no idea, why the hdmi cable does not work properly.

KVM switch one Cinema hd display (dvi) with macpro (dvi) and macbook pro (mini displayport)

I want to use a KVM switch to share one display with two computers.
Computer one is: MacPro 1,1 dual core 2.66 Ghz with two DVI ports.
Computer two is: MacBook Pro 4 core 2.66 GHz with one Mini Displayport.
Display is: Cinema HD Display with DVI connector.

Maybe you're right just try and see if I can return the stuff if it's not working.
I won't be using a higher resolution then 1920 x 1200 however I still would buy the adapter

Using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect Macbook Pro (2009) for a presentation via projector.

When I connect my Macbook Pro (2009 model) using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to display a presentation via projector, only the top-left portion of what is displayed on my Macbook Pro's screen is displayed on the projector, as though I zoomed in on that portion of my screen. The projector is on and the adapter and the cable that connects the adapter to the projector machine is correctly connected. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

It sounds like the external display you are using (projector) operates at a smaller resolution than your MacBook Pro. You may want to configure the display preferences in System Preferences for the external projector.

Will a Mini-Displayport to VGA adapter work with new macbook pro 2011

I was thinking of getting a mini-displayport to vga adapter for my external monitor I wanted to hook up but I wasnt quite sure whether it would work as my macbook pro has the new thunderbolt port, I was confused if the new port would only work with the thunderbolt displays. Could anyone help me as I'm not too sure what will work.

I tried the Apple miniDisplayport to VGA in a Thunderbolt MBP and iMac and they both worked. Same for the Apple miniDIsplayport to DVI.

Mini displayport to HDMI = fine. Mini displayport to VGA = terrible on late 2011 MacBook Pro. Any ideas?

I have a late 2011 unibody MacBook Pro. It has a real problem displaying through a projector or tv using mini displayport to VGA. I connect it to my tv at home with a mini displayport to HDMI cable and it works fine. If I have to connect through a VGA adapter/cable to a tv or projector for work the image always looks like the contrast has been turned right up and it looks awful. I have tried creating a profile, calibrating the secondary display and adjusting gamma settings but it doesn't make any difference.
If I plug my old black MacBook into the same projector/tv using VGA it works fine so I now have to take 2 laptops to work which is ridiculous. I thought it might be the adapter itself but at a recent event a colleage experienced exactly the same problem with his identical set up so I thought it might be something to do with the projectors set up at the event but I recently tried connecting to a projector at a different event and got the same results and now I'm confused. I guess it must have something to do with the adapter but not sure what.
Any help much appreciated.

You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked.

But what I do not like in that picture (my personal view, others may think differently), is that there is much plastic around the connectors where the cable must fit. You may ot may not be able to get the cable to *fully seat* with the adapter.
Other adapters (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334087, yes I know this is a DVI) hve no plastic barriers to connections.

My MacBook screen is stuck in "presentation" mode (I don't know the correct term) after using my Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter - meaning the screen fonts and windows are larger than usual. How can I fix this? I've changed the display settings to modify it a little, but it still doesn't look right. I reinserted the adapter numerous times and restarted my computer, it still hasn't worked. Help!

I have an old MacBook (2 years old) and am planning to upgrade to the new MacBook.
Can my current Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter be used for this new MacBook as well?

A two-year old MacBook will have a Mini DVI port on it, not a Mini DisplayPort. So you will need a new adapter. Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter.
