MacBook pro not starting. LOTS of issues trying to login. Looking for any kind of advice, I'm at a loss..

Basically my Macbook pro isn't starting up correctly. Every time I start it up, I get a loading bar. Once the bar is finished, the computer just shuts off. Sometimes when it loads without the bar - It instantly takes me to OSX Utilities instead of the normal login screen. From there, when i attempt to verify my Macintosh hard drive in Disk Utility, I get either one of two errors. First one being "incorrect number of thread records" and "Invalid volume file count". Once it finishes verifying, and I try to repair it, it says "Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files". I have no time machine backups or a way to get into my computer to back anything up. Also, in disk utility, my hard drive will go from being greyed out to not being greyed out sporadically. If I have to erase everything on my hard drive to have a working computer then so be it. I just don't know if that's 100% what I have to do yet. I've tried every solution I've found to no avail. I don't have a second Mac or an external hard drive so i'm feeling beyond hopeless, especially with the fact that the nearest Apple store is hours away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Macbook Pro not starting up no startup chime

Friday afternoon, I attempted to start up the Macbook Pro but after the Superdrive made a sound, I don't hear any startup chime. Yesterday night, after having to remove the battery and by inserting the RJ-45 Jack into the Macbook Pro, I finally got the thing to boot and I was able to back up both my Mac *AND* my iPhone 5. However, this morning, in spite of me taking the battery out and also going back to Wi-Fi connection, this morning when I had the Macbook Pro sleep (Macbook Pro Early 2008, 2.6MHz, 15-Inch), when I tried to wake it up, the Macbook Pro won't display any video, so I turned the Macbook Pro off by holding the Power Button until the Macbook Pro turned off. Now I tried to reboot the Mac by doing a PRAM plus an SMC Reset before I attempted to get the Mac to boot up again. I turned the power on, same thing happened on Friday Afternoon. That's the bad news. The good news is that I was able to have my Macbook Pro backed up whilst it was running yesterday night. The MagSafe Adapter is displaying a "connected" light (Green/Amber), and I know that the Superdrive is working fine, but I don't hear a start-up chime.
Now to tell you guys, I've been using a heavy amount of Flash on the Mac, and all I know is that Apple has been very ballistic against Flash due to Flash causing Macs to crash day after day.
Long story short. Turned the power on (even without the battery in), MagSafe Adapter is working fine, no startup chime. I also heard about the mass GeForce recall that affects certain Macbook Pros as well. I don't want to think it's the Logic Board or the Processor, even worse, the CMOS Battery. I also don't want to think that my Macbook Pro is infected with a Boot Sector Virus neither.
Seriously I don't want to see myself buying a new Macbook after 4 years of having the same Mac I have, but it could be the worst case scenario. I have my Mac backed up on the Time Capsule, just in case I must move to a newer, lighter Mac since I'm more of a mobile Mac user.

Well 4-5 years seems to be the average life span of a MacBook Pro computer depending upon use, how much dust it's inhales and hasn't been cleaned out
Also in my opinion that machine is too old to handle 10.7 or 10.8, despite Apple's say otherwise, you should have stayed with 10.6.8
All I can suggest is you run through this list of fixes, install OS X on a external drive (reboot twice from it to change the EFI firmware) and see if it's a internal hard drive issue, if you have to replace the internal drive, make sure to remove the fans and clean the vents there of dust, but it could be the heat damage to the video chip has already occurred and is irreversible.

Hi Guys,
Right here's my spec's:
Macbook Pro intel dua core 2.4, 4 gigs Ram, OSX Tiger 10.4.11
The mac isnt loading up when i turn it on it just stays on the apple icon and the grey loading page.
I have tryed Single Mode, Verbose mode, and loading up the Disk warrior cd and Tech Tools cd and nothing will load.
I do have Boot Camp on the computer and Windows loads up fine.
The one bad thing is i recently moved over seas and lost my install cd for OSX so i cant reinstall.
I have done some digging around and have noticed there are a few people with the same problem and they tryed using the install discs and they didnt work for them either.
So any advice would be great, any options to try also just fire away please.

I just got a brand new MacBook Pro. I was so excited and have enjoyed it for 2 days..... then I opened it up this afternoon and ... black screen... I could hear/feel it running but could get no visual response to the touch pad or keys, so I powered down and back up. It rebooted very slowly, but performed well.
I just returned home and attempted to check my email and I was "locked up". No response except the ??colorful wheel turning for 20minutes or so.... I finally powered it down and back up and the same thing... took 30minutes to get going. HELP!! I am on my "old" computer now asking this question since the new MacBook Pro is so slow!!!

I am using a 2013 macbook pro 13(md 101) running os x mavericks. Last night i connected a wireless mouse(hp x3500) and it worked fine at that moment.
I did a normal shutdown. Next day when i tried starting the macbook, it didn't start at all, no screen, no message, in fact it seemed like the laptop is not powering up. Did a bit of googling and tried SMC bypass and it started the laptop and i managed to get this screen
Now i thought booting the mac in safe mode might work, so i did a force shutdown by long pressing the power button.
But now, when i am trying to boot the machine again with or without smc bypass, it's not working.
Not sure what's the real issue, any help is really appreciated.

Early '08 midel MacBook Pro not starting

I have a late '07 - mid '08 model MacBook Pro. Last night I turned off my machine and this morning it would not start. I press the power button and I hear the Superdrive and fans start to work then it just clicks off, no image on the screen and no startup sound. The light on the front of the computer comes on and pulses about once or twice before it clicks off. I would like to know if this could be a hardware issue such as a bad RAM module, which is something I can fix myself, or if it is more likely something more serious. I live about 2 hours away from the nearest Apple Store so I would like to resolve the issue without having to make a long drive to Charlotte, NC if possible!

since your original post noted that your MacBook Pro had Mac OS X 10.6.8 installed, I’d concluded that your 13-inch Early 2011 model originally came with two grey installation DVDs in the box. Some Early 2011 models originally came with Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) installed, and some originally came with Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) installed. If yours originally came with Snow Leopard, then it also originally came with the two grey installation DVDs. If yours originally came with Lion, then it originally came with no grey installation DVDs.
If yours came with grey installation DVDs, then to boot your MacBook Pro from DVD, you’ll need to insert the one labelled “Mac OS X Install DVD” into its SuperDrive, and hold down the C key as your MacBook Pro starts up until the desktop appears. (It takes longer to boot from DVD than it does to boot from the internal hard disk.) Booting from the DVD does not affect the version of OS X which is installed on your internal hard disk.

My husband has recently bought a new MacBook Pro which was working fine until one day he went to turn it on and it does nothing but some up with a blue screen, the apple sign and then after a while a small circle with a line through it comes up (similar to a stop sign) and it does nothing else.
Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? He hadn't done any installing or updates and said it was absolutely fine before it stopped working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and where possible, a clean install avoided!!!

it basically sounds like its just not recognizing the HD as the start up disk. can be a simple as some how the setting for it got messed up or as worse as the HD is corrupt.
along with the other suggestions (if those dont work or you have issues) try to boot with another machine using that HD as its start drive (use target disk mode on that, start it while holding T) and if that doesnt work you can probably expect the HD has some issue but you can still possibly access the info on it while using it it target disk mode to at least copy off the info to save it. i am actually waiting for a friend to get me an external drive so i can do that for her, her machine isnt not booting but might as well not be and you cant boot of her drive but i can at least access it

I am having trouble with my 2011 MacBook Pro, runs on OS X Mountain Lion... So I left my computer on all night and it ran out of battery so this morning I charged it for a while and attempted to turn it back on..
So when I hit the power button, it went to a straight white screen, and after about 10 minutes, it took me to a start up help page with the following options:

Re-install Mountain Lion OS X
Get help online Apple Support
Disk Utility
I first just tried re-installing Mountain Lion, and I did, but nothing happened it still wouldnt boot up, so I did disk utility and attempted to repair my disk "Macintosh HD" and after it said it could not be repaired, to reformat it, and erase it. and then it changed to "Disk0s2" and it says its not mounted so now I don't know what to do, I tried re-installing Mountain Lion after and now it only gives me the "Recovery HD" option to install it on which isn't even possible cause it's locked...
Can someone help me??

Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select the volume you wish to erase from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.

Macbook Pro not starting up after 10.9.3 install

Hi everyone. I have a mid-2010 15 inch Macbook Pro. After putting it off for some time, I went to install the 10.9.3 update. However, after installing the update, the computer won't start!
A progress bar appears under the Mac Logo during start-up, but it only gets about 1/5th of the way through, when the bar disappears and then the mac shuts down. I've attempted this at least 5 times and it always does the same thing.
I held option during start-up to boot into the Recovery disk, and tried to repair the partition (I also have a bootcamp partition), but it said it was unable to repair. What's my next step? I have a time camp back-up from 50 days ago, so I could restore from that but it wouldn't be ideal. Is there a way to backup my files in it's current state in anyway?

Dear Community,
I have a macbook pro purchased about 3 years ago. Since last couple of months, it wouldn't want to wake up after putting to sleep. I had to turn it off and then back on. One fine day, it just wouldn't wake up. I went through all the resets with different key combinations but to no avail . Finally i went to an apple store (not from the shop i got it); i was bluntly declined saying they accept laptops for repair/check only if the product had been purchased at their shop. I tried other and samething. I didn't expect this treatment. Finally found an Apple certified service center. They even charged me to check it (don't know if that's normal. If it is, apologize for my naivity) and finally told me the problem - the logic board needs to be replaced! The cost of which is as you can imagine, is extremely high (around 550 euros + extra for work + tax - it is high for me ).
I changed from pc to mac hoping better services/products. But I must say I am really disappointed by this . Spending a lot to get a product like this and then such dissapointment.
Sorry Apple, but that's not what I was expecting .
A sad ex-mac user.
P.S: I didn't know where else I could share my frustration.

Okay so my MacBook Pro won't start up. When I press the power button I hear a weird sound like something trying to move but not being able to and after a second when its shutting down I hear it again. I've taken hdd and dvd rom out and the weird sound still comes. I removed both ram modules and the computer starts beebing the error sound. I tried srarting with only 1 ram module and nothing. The fans spin for a brief second and then stops. If I hold down the power button it stays on until the sleep light start to blink and then shuts down again while making the weird sound. I tried removing the battery also.
Any ideas?

If you would have taken it into Apple for a free evaluation, it might have been a simple fix.
Since you have basically ruined your machine, costing more to repair than it's present value, you should just connect the internal drive to a new Mac using a SATA to USB adpater cable and use Migration/Setup Assistant or manually transfer files and trash the old one.
You also could get a Windows PC tower, where you have the option to do your own surgery as it's modular designed for that purpose.
Just install MacDrive into Windows and ues the SATA to USB adpater to access your files on the Mac formatted drive.

Macbook Pro not starting without Holding Power Button

Hello,
my Macbook Pro (bought March 2008) seems to be dead.
When the power button is pressed (and ONLY IF HELD.. cause if I just push it once it powers up and turns off instantly) it starts and does 2 seconds of normal boot (DVD drive check, HD starts to spin along with the fans) then the power just cuts out and you hear the HD off sound. The LED on the front at this moment keeps flashing and then all goes off.
I tried doing a SMC reset and even a PRAM reset already, but no luck. I've read to try an Hardware Test with the Install DvD so I've inserted it but the MacbookPro powers off before even starting it (The Screen never starts )
What should I do?

MacBook Pro not starting up, has faint lines across apple logo and runs hot

Hello, my MacBook Pro 2011 model is not working. I when trying to start it up it has faint horizontal lines, equally spaced, all across the screen. When the apple logo disappears the machine stops progressing any further, and starts running really hot. Yesterday I had to run the batter flat before I could get it to start properly and it ran all day fine. Today it logged in but then went haywire with split desktop and horizontal lines and crashed. Can't get it to restart.
i haven't a clue what's wrong, and I can't afford to replace it right now. Any ideas anyone?
