MacBook Pro restarts unexpectedly after removing mini displayport-DVI adapter
Hi all,
I did a clean install of Mavericks a little while back. Since then I have been noticing an issue with my Mid-2009 17" MacBook auto-restarting, and have reduced it when I remove my mini displayport-DVI adapter.
I usually work with my macbook closed, connected to a Dell 24" external monitor connected via DVI. When removing the adapter the macbook quite often goes to the grey screen telling me that the machine must force restart. It is becoming really frustrating.
Anyone know about this issue or found a workaround?
Thanks in advance,
Ben
Hi emeidos,
If you are having intermittent forced restarts with yoru MacBook Pro, you may find the following article helpful:

HT5299 My MacBook Pro doesn't have a mini DisplayPort
My MacBook Pro doesn't have a mini DisplayPort what can I do so that I can use my Cinema Display?
You have a Dual-link DVI port. Try Monoprice to see if they might have an adapter.

Macbook Pro Shuts Down after 30 mins. When Watching a Movie through TV
Why does my new Macbook Pro shutdown whenever we try to stream a DVD from the computer to our TV? Both products are new. I changed the energy settings and it still shuts down about a half hour into the DVD. It's so annoying! Please help.
Mine goes off after a while of playing my iMac's music thru wi-fi onto the apple TV to have my music played on my Bose solo. A few weeks ago it happened also if I was playing my music from my iPad thru the apple TV. I've been doing this for years and it never happened before. Someone suggested a few weeks ago that possibly my Apple TV was connecting to my wi-fi in a faulty way. I have noticed that if I check my iMacs wi-fi settings and I remove wi-fi my apple devices have had connected to in the past are listed there. I have removed them manually and unchecked the "remember wi-fis this computer has joined" box but they will reappear there a moment later. Is my apple TV effective? or my wi-fi's settings? Help please!

2012 Macbook pro restarts unexpectedly
My 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina restarts unexpectedly. It might go a day or two without doing it, but then it might continually restart 5 times in an hour. My computer screen will suddenly go black. The computer sounds like it's still running, but it wouldn't respond. I have to hold the power button down till the computer totally shuts down, then it takes awhile to get it turn back on and it always says "your computer restarted because it has encounter a problem" or something to that effect. and then the screen usually turns black again and i have to repeat the restart process until I can log back on. Then I get the error report message copied below. I would take it to an Apple store, but the closest one is 4 hours away and I don't get to the city very much. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

I have a Macbook Pro early 2011 running on mountain lion version 10.8.2. A while back, i purchased a mini display port thru HDMI port so i could watch dvds on my toshiba television. it all worked great for a while, then the sound just stopped working. At first, I thought the mini display port connector must have broke, until I plugged it into a sony television and it worked. I also tried using it through a samsung television and it worked just fine. Why does it not work through the toshiba television anymore? The picture works fine, but the sound does not come thru the television anymore. My mac is set to play sound thru the HDMI port and it doesnt. When i switch it to built in internal speakers, the sound comes thru my mac, but when i switch it, no sound comes out. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you!
I am still waiting to receive a response from them, but i dont think they'll be much help. the television still works fine and all of the ports on the back, including both HDMI ports, work perfectly.

IMac shuts down after removing Mini DisplayPort to SVGA
Hi,
The last couple of years I have worked with a 27 inch iMac in combination with a HP 27 inch monitor. This monitor is connected via a Mini Displayport to SVGA connector. Because I am going to use this external monitor anymore, I disconnected it today which made my iMac shut down imediately. Then it keeps rebooting and trying to start up but shuts down again. Over and over.
The problem stops as soon as I connect the monitor again.
Anybody have any thoughts?Hello there, TheCapGuy.

for some reason my MBP and my iPad do not work with a Canon LV-7390 projector in the conference room at my office.
they work every other place but in this projector (the most important). any ideasHi glraczon.support,
It sounds like the external display you are using (projector) operates at a smaller resolution than your MacBook Pro. You may want to configure the display preferences in System Preferences for the external projector.
Here is an article that may help you with that process:

Can late 2008 MacBook Pro play audio though the Mini DisplayPort?
I've got a Mini DisplayPort on my late 2008 MBP and I've got an MDP to HDMI adapotor that's meant to be audio ready. I can't get it working with audio (ok with display) and HDMI isn't in the sound output menu.
Yes, unless you buy one of the combination adapters I linked in this post last night, or a similar one:

MacBook Pro 13 inch mid 2012 Mini DisplayPort VGA Not Working
I am using a 3rd party adapter that has worked a couple of times but now when I try to use it my computer freezes up until I unplug the adapter. My 3rd party DVI adapter works fine and the VGA adapter works with my windows 8 partition (used it tonight for my presentation, how sad, bought a Mac and had to use windows still).
I have ML 10.8.2
Please help, I need this to run my presentationsI've seen a number of posts here recently about Thunderbolt/Mini Display Port to VGA adapters not working. It just seems as if Mountain Lion doesn't function well with VGA any longer. The only thing that I can suggest is to continue to use the DVI port if it works.

Mini Displayport DVI Adapter Problem
I'm currently having issues with my MacBook Pro's DVI out (via Apple Mini-Displayport Adapter). Whenever my displays go to sleep (which is set after an hour) and wakes up, sometimes the external display (a SyncMaster 220WM) shows "snow" or "static" ... basically what you'd see if a TV station had no reception. If I let it sit for a minute, the second display will return (the MBP's primary display is fine, no errors of any kind). If I power off the Samsung display, the MBP treats the connection as if I pulled the cable out and reverts to a single screen setup. I have been able to reproduce this by using "Hot Corners" to sleep and wake up the displays. I'm using the 9600m GT as the computer is my desktop replacement. I never had this happen to me before with my older MBP with an 8600m GT using the same DVI cable and display. I think it's the mini-displayport adapter. Is this a common issue. Anyone else having these problems.
Thank you!I have been experiencing the same flickering problem when using the mini Displayport output on the GT120 to drive secondary monitors at my office. Using a Monoprice cable instead of Apple's adapter provides a more stable signal, but we still get intermittent flickering where the screen goes black for a second, then a full image returns. I think this issue is due to massive loss of signal strength via the mini Displayport output on the GT120 card. Hot Plug Detect is also weak which points to low signal strength. This might be fixable by increasing the output voltage of the card slightly to boost the signal strength. Apple really should just issue a firmware/BIOS fix for this problem since the implementation of mini Displayport on these cards seems poorly engineered. Does anyone know how to do this?

MacBook Pro restarts randomly after installing OS X Mavericks
I just installed the OS X Mavericks and after it was done installing, obviously it had to restart like any other update. It restarted regularly the first time until I signed into my user and it just shut off and restarted randomly. This time when it was turning back on, an error message came up that said "an error has occurred press any key" then i logged into my user and another error message came up and then after like 15 seconds it restarted again I did this again about 8 more times and shut my laptop off twice. Anyone know what is going on and how I can fix it??? I live 2 hours away from the nearest apple store and have no idea what to do!
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

July 2010 Macbook Pro restarting constantly after downloading mountain lion
I downloaded the new OS Mountain Lion upgrading from Snow Leopard a while ago. Ever since this, it reboots/restarts randomly and consantly. My Mac has some good days where there are long intervals before it restarts on its own but its getting quite annoying. When it shows me the report when it says your computer restarted because of a problem its usually a "kernal" thing. I'm not too tech savvy but, I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this. Mind you, I don't have any time capsule things set up. I think my options are either wiping the hard drive or trying to find a way to uninstall and reinstall mountain lion. If anyone has a suggestion that varies or is different i'd love to hear it. If anyone also would like to email me about this so you can get back quicker my email is: everxdream@g
