macbook pro retina samsung panel, lg panel, which one is better?

Mine hasn't yet but time may tell. At the same time I asked a question on the endless IR thread and never got an answer: to what extent is how the rMBP being used driving image retention?
I'm sure there are other variables but the one that comes to mind first is how bright is the screen run? I would imagine that a monitor set to full brightness (as one user who complained about IR did) would accelerate any tendency toward IR and the closer to "full-on" it's set, the sooner that would happen. I have mine set to "5" of the available range and for the first week, I ran the Image Retention Test in all its variations repeatedly without a hint of IR. We also don't know whether the LG at full brightness can illuminate an auditorium while the Samsung can only light up a room or vice-versa.
Other variables could be: is the screen saver used; how long before it kicks in; is the rMBP the only computer so it's used constantly; is it ever powered off or is the monitor just allowed to sleep?
Based on those thousands of posts, the original LG's appear to be more prone to IR than the Samsung, but there hasn't been the same flood of complaints with the LG SJA2's, at least not yet. At the same time, there hasn't been any attention I could find about contributing factors either.
And notably,  way back when the Samsung started to be the Holy Grail, I don't remember complaints about color problems; that seems to have cropped up recently.

  • New problem with display on Macbook Pro retina (Samsung panel)

    Hello All,
I am a very new people on your forum but a few weeks ago i bought a new macbook pro retina with samsung panel.
I haven't ghosting effect on my macbook but i have a new and really bad problem.
I try to found a some information on Russians forums but nobody can help me with it.
I can see an artifacts in the form of flashing pixels on all display.
It occurs in 20-30 minutes after the start of work.
Today i try to test it on game Dirt 2 and i can see defects after 2 minutes after start. So i think it can be reason with Geforce 650 but when i back to desktop and use HD 4000 i still see a problem.
This is best seen on a black screen with high backlight.
When i try to connect TV via HDMI i can't see any problem in my TV.
So i really don't know what could be the reason.
I attached the video with issue to video hosting
    http://vimple.ru/579f880e8b7045e09f8fc5bc097c5e2b
Also i have a many software problem like Crashing safari and iTunes. It can be a few times per day.
I really disappointed with my new Macbook.
I haven't any problem with old 2009 Macbook pro with Snow Leopard but Mountain Lion is not working well.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Macbook Pro Retina Samsung vs. LG display

I've been reading posts with people talking about the Macbook Pro Retinas coming with either Samsung or LG displays and have heard that the majority of LG displays are faulty while the Samsung versions are perfect. What is the deal with that?
I ordered my Macbook Pro Retina on Aug. 10 and am wondering if Apple already fixed this issue and might be shipping only Samsung models? or is it still 50/50 chance of getting either LG or Samsung?
I know I'm not the only one spending a ton of money on this machine but it doesn't seem fair that someone people get the faulty LGs and others get the Samsung. Has anyone tried calling Apple and seeing if they can request the Samsung version? not sure if that's possible but maybe worth a shot?
    Thanks!

  • MacBook Pro Retina stopped detecting wifi network in one location.

Hey everyone, experiencing kind of a weird problem and was hoping someone would be able to help.   I was doing some studying at a Starbucks, connected to their WiFi network when randomly my computer lost connection to their network and was no longer able to detect that it even exists. I was worried this was some sort of problem with my wifi card as it could no longer detect any networks nearby, where as before it was detecting multiple networks in the area of the Starbucks. Oddly i was still able to connect to the network on both my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Upon returning home I was relieved to find that I was still able to connect to my home wifi network. Since then i've been to many locations with my laptop but not once had an issue connecting to or detecting wifi networks, with the exception being at that Starbucks location. I've returned many times hoping that the problem would somehow fix itself, and that maybe it was just a problem with their network, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems to be that for whatever reason something happened to the MacBook pro while I was at that Starbucks location that has caused it to no longer detect the wifi networks there, and only there.  One possibility could be the I updated Mountain Lion to the 10.8.2 supplemental update while there, but I don't see how that would cause the problem. If anyone has any ideas as to a solution that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I considered the network hog point, but I don't believe that I was using any excessive amounts of bandwidth. Also, because I can no longer detect any networks at the Starbucks location (not just the Starbucks network) I don't believe that this is the problem. Also, when I updated the operating system I was sure to disconnect from wifi first, I had already downloaded the update on my home network, just had yet to restart to install it, so my security shouldn't have been an issue either.  How exactly can I go about masking my MAC address so I could double check to see if it was the network issue?
Oh, also, I booted into Windows 7 via boot camp and for some reason Windows is also unable to detect any networks while at Starbucks as well, which is even more confusing.  I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but I bought this MacBook pro retina in Canada and am now in There UK for school. I've heard that north American macs don't play well with one of the network channels that is commonly used over here, so that also may play a role in all of this. But considering that I was able to consistently use their wifi for a couple weeks with no issue, I don't see how that could be the problem. As far as WEP encrypted goes, the network is unsecured so I don't believe that's the problem.
Thanks for the response, I appreciably appreciate it!

  • Macbook Pro retina + Samsung LED 24" external monitor

Hi all, I just bought Macbook Pro 13.3" Retina and im having some troubles.
When I connect those two via VGA adapter I see some strange artifact effect on external monitor.
I dont know hot to name that artifact but it is the same thing that you can see when you take your camera or smartphone and try to record old tv screen for example. You will see that parallel lines goes up or down. This effects is easy to notice when you put something with dark background on external monior (like Unity3D Pro IDE with dark skin in my case).
    The interesting things are:
    - when I switch external monitor from VGA adapter connection to HDMI-HDMI then everything works fine with no artifacts.
    - when I'm using VGA adapter and connect Macbook Pro to another external monitor (AOC 24" LCD) then everything works ok aswell.
    - when I take my Samsung LED monitor and connect it to another PC (Windows 8) with VGA everything works great.
So I belive that this issue is related to all three of them (MacbookPro + Sasmung LED + VGA adapter) and I really dont know who to blame and what to do.
Dose anyome have an idea how to solve this and what to do?]
    thanks

    Hi luisvf7,
So it seems you are having issues with your MacBook Pro not displaying properly on your external display. It does sound like a frustrating situation. Let’s see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you use the steps in this article to troubleshoot the problem -

  • Macbook Air i7 3.3 Ghz Vs Macbook Pro Retina i5 3.3 Ghz, Which more suite the engineering student?

Hello everyone, i would like to get an opinion on wether i should get the MacBook Air 13''  i7 3.3 Ghz 8GB Ram 128GB SSD Vs the MacBook Pro with retina Display 13''  i5 3.3 Ghz 8GB Ram 128GB SSD? I would used it for engineering study stuff, looking up to be using with solidwork and etc.
Which of these MacBook would suite me better for my used? Help me out Guys....

So here is the thought process I used to buy:
    1. Memory soldered on the motherboard so buy the max. I dont plan to upgrade this computer for years.
    2. Faster CPU is just not necessary unless you are doing computaional tasks. Even if so, cI an see no reason why the base model i7 cannot handle just about anything
    3. The 256GB SSD is plenty big. Can see no reason to shell out BIG $$$ just so I can carry around media that I am not watching. With USB 3 and TB there will be ample opportunities to get a far less expensive, and very fast external harddrive. Something that is easy to carry around. I expect something like the g-drive slim will be available in USB 3. Right now I use an external 6gps drive to backup on my Win system via USB 3 and its fast. I expect the same performance on the Mac.
    4. I have 2 external monitors and so I bought 2 TB to DVI adapters.

  • Should I buy a Macbook Pro for college? If so which one?

Going to college in a couple of weeks. I was planning on buying a Macbook Pro but I don't really know if I need it or if it's worth the price. I was looking at the 13 inch i5 and i7 versions. If I would buy the i5 one, I would like to upgrade the hard drive to 500G for an extra 50 bucks but was wondering if it was worth just going for the i7 processor version which already includes a 500G hard drive. It would be an extra 250 dollars. Also, if I buy either one of these, will it last me 4-6 years of college? I know that technology goes by fast and would rather spend an extra couple hundred dollars if its going to last me longer. I am majoring in Petroleum Engineering and will not be using much video editing or gaming.
I've been reading many reviews and statements about Macs from all over the internet but I have a few more questions about Macbook Pros. I have always been a PC guy.
Do Macs really stay fast longer? Like doesn't slow down as much.
How limited is the compatibility now days?
    Worth the big price tag?
How big of a difference is the i5 and i7 processors?
Can you put a laptop lock on it? It will probably be a big target for thieves and I hear there are many in college.
    Should I get Apple Care?
Is there more programs I would need to buy? I am getting a 100 dollar gift card thing to the apple app store but wondering if I need Microsoft Office or something that isn't from the Apple store
The reason I ask these questions is because I would rather have an answer from a community of people with multiple answers and opinions than a biased website or reviewer. Well there will be some biased since this is an apple forum but please answer truthfully and as unbiased as possible please! Thanks!

  • 500GB SSD on Classic vs 216GB Flash MacBook Pro Retina?

Would a classic MacBook Pro with 500GB SSD be faster than a 216GB Flash Storage MacBook Pro Retina? I have two options: one with the original MacBook, plus a 500GB SSD from Samsung ($250), vs a 216GB Flash Storage MacBook Pro Retina (the new model).
Performance wise, which would be faster? I use it for programming, Photoshop and a lot of web browsing.

You really would have to bench test them to determine with any accuracy the differences.  I suspect the retina might have the edge all other things being equal.
In the real world I do not think that would matter a lot.  The CPU/GPU will be the real determinant of speed, and the amount RAM (when it is entirely in use) will have the greater impact on performance.
    Ciao.

  • How do I connect a 2013 Macbook Pro Retina to an Epson Power Lite 61p LCD Projector?

I am trying to attach an Epson PowerLite 61p LCD Projector to my 2013 Macbook Pro Retina, but I cannot find which type of adapter I need. I would assume whichever adapter is required it must connect via thunderbolt. However, I do not know if the required adapter is a "Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter," "Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter," or a "Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter." I would deeply appreciate your help and guidance. Thanks!

It does not matter whether you get an Apple adapter or a third pary one.  What you have there is a Mini Displayport to VGA adapter, but as you know, your new MacBook no longer has an MDP port!
Thunderbolt to VGA adapters do not exist but there are plenty of HDMI to VGA adapters out there:

  • Infinite shipping delay in the MacBook Pro Retina to Europe

Does anyone know why Apple is delaying the shippment of the MacBook Pro Retina every week?
I bought one more than a month ago and every week they extend the shipping estimate date. I'm thinking on return it back. The sadness is that I already have my useless Thunderbolt Cinema Display, and a also useless Thunderbolt hard drive which I don't know if they work properly because I don't have the computer to test them!!
Does anyone know something about this?

  • Protools on MacBook Pro (Retina, 13 pouces, mi-2014)

    Hi everyone,
I'd like to know if I can install Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on a partition of my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13 pouces, mi-2014) which is currently running on Yosemite 10.10.
OS X 10.8.5 is the only version approved by AVID for my Protools 10.3.9.
So anyone can tell me how to find a complete install of OS X 10.8.5 and if it will boot on my MacBook Pro properly ?
Thank you in advance for your answers !
    Cheers,
    Franck

    MacBook Pro

  • How to transfer contacts from MacBook Pro Retina to old MacBook Pro running 10.5.8?

How do I transfer my latest updated contacts from my MacBook Pro Retina running 10.9.1 which uses the cloud to my old Macbook Pro running 10.5.8 which is not in the cloud?

Thank you very much, Linc, for your suggestion.  I should have mentioned one other thing.  The reason I want to do this is that I use an old phone and, after I upgraded to Mavericks, Missing Sync no longer worked with my MacBook Pro Retina - so my address book in my phone is getting out of date.  Because my phone is old (it's a Palm Centro), they apparently will not likely update their software for this phone.  So I was thinking I could sync my phone with my old MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 if I could regularly get that old address book to mirror contacts in my new MacBook Pro.  You said I could open the contacts in the old MacBook by double-clicking the vCard file. But will that action put them into the old address book on the old Mac so that I could then sync the phone to it? I really need to overwrite the address book in the old Mac with the info that I am bringing over from the new MacBook.
I'd be grateful if you could tell me whether what I want to do is doable.  This old phone works perfectly well and I don't need a new phone with a data plan that I would pay for but never use.
    Thanks!
Note - I accidentally indicated that my response solved my question.  I clicked the wrong box.  Linc is the one who solved the problem.

  • Macbook pro retina indecisive please answer :)

So im buying a macbook pro retina and im upgrading the standard one from 2.3 to 2.6 i7 quad core with the 1gb graphics 256 ssd etc and i was thinking about getting the 16gb ram but didnt know if it was worth it here is what i will use the computer for
1: Downloading movies/tv shows high quality and playing them so for example 4 - 5 gb 720p movies.
2: Mulitasking on the net so youtube/email/facebook/browsing etc also i always have alot of tabs open
3: University work writing notes/ listening to lectures
4: Play games FIFA/ few popular shooting games etc.
5: Itunes - listening to music
6: Multitasking so movie might be open while the internet is open and microsoft word might be running and itunes might just happen to be etc.
7: Also being a laptop i will move the computer a bit so taking it to uni etc.
So my question is; is the 2.6 i7 quad core 256 ssd and 1 gb graphics 8gb ram enough to do everything smoothly and with no hassles or should i get the 16gb ram and also with the retina display will it show me a significant difference playing high quality movies. Also i do have a hard drive and will not overfill the computer just with music and work stuff.
    THANK YOU

to be honest - i jumped the bandwagon when the Retina came out because of the screen.  when watching movies, it's a very nice screen and when browsing the web, that too was great.
here's my issue - Photoshop, Word and Excel, the Retina screen is no good to me.  Images are blurry, fonts are pretty bad.  If you plan on using Photoshop, Word and Excel, go for the non-Retina with Anit Glare Screen instead.
Until Adobe and Microsoft updates their software, my Retina will be a paperweight - So far, since I got it almost 3 weeks ago, i've only used it a few times - i tend to use my late 2011 15 inch Macbook Pro more.
So I'll leave it up to you to decide - if you search around, you'll see that most Retina owners complain about Photoshop and MS Office....Other than that, it's a very nice Macbook -
