Macbook Pro Retina unable to boot windows 7 from USB

I have an unusual problem
i cannot install windows 7 on my macbook pro retina. Thats not the weird part. This is what happens.
- I use bootcamp.
- I make bootable USB.
- Download drivers.
- Install windows 7
- Select partition size as 50 or 60 or 70 GB
- mac restarts, then a black screen appears, a cursor on top left appears just for a second and then dissappears and i am left with a black screen with nothing on it. (No text or cursors)
I have tried installing 32 bit, 64 bit windows 7.
Weird thing is i had encountered this problem before and did a bit of searching n found out that you cannot upgrade to 64bit from 32bit. But thats not the issue here. A fix given to that problem worked for me as well. Make a bootable usb with 32bit windows and manually remove all non-hidden files on it and replace with non-hidden files of a 64bit win7. It worked for me then. Win7 installed. But recently i got battlefield 3 and needed additional space to install so i had to remove win7 and repartition. Now no solution is working. Not even the replacing 32bit files with 64bit files.
I really wanna game!! Please help!!

SOLVED:
64bit still acts cocky.
But i tried that work around with another USB and it worked. Just Like that
Cocky Mac.
Create USB with 32bit OS, replace non-hidden files with non-hidden files of 64bit OS of windows 7.

Hallo guys, i have a big problem with installing Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on my MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp. No matter what i try i get a black screen after partitioning or get a message like " No bootable disk" or  " No System Disk availabe".
My Mac has : OS X version 10.8.2, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB memory, 2.6 GHz Intel i7 and is only a week old
My Boot Camp is version 5.0.1
My Windows InstallingDVD is one year old now, i needed it to build a PC last year, hope that doesnt make a difference, its a full version, so not just for upgrading.
From what i saw in the apple support it should work on my macbook. I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, problem solved. I looked a bit more here in the questions and there was the answer and its quite simple.
Somehow an USB-stick makes problems while Windows wants to install, i dont know why. So i just made everything over DVDs and now everything works fine.

  • MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) - Boot Camp/Win 7 - Num Lock Problem

    Hey,
I have a client who has a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) who is experiencing a problem when booted into Windows 7 via Boot Camp in that he cannot type certain character like # (hash character by keystroke alt + 3) without Windows 7 error bleeping at him. He needs the # character as part of his password for logging into webmail.
The Boot Camp setup has the latest Boot Camp drivers installed (this was a fresh Boot Camp setup/install today) and every other part of the hardware works I suspect that this problem is not a key mapping problem but more something to do with Windows registering Num Lock as being active.
If the problem is that Num Lock is enabled then what is the keystroke to disable Num Lock? I thought it was fn + 6 but did this change since the Unibody MacBooks?
I understand that there are ways of resurrecting number pad fuctionality as decribed in the MacWorld article (see link below) but this is a Mac OS X System Preference and as such would not operate when booted into Windows via Boot Camp.

  • MacBook Pro Retina, won't boot with USB3 attached.

    Hi!
Enjoying my new computer(ofcourse), thought i ran into a troublesome problem:
I plugged in Flashdrive 2, restarted and starting to hold alt to get into the boot menu.
But it never showed up(tested for about 5min), the screen showed up in gray, but then no more action was seen.
I pulled out Flashdrive 2 and had to hold the power key for a hard stop.
Then started the computer as normal and the boot menu showed up just as normal!
I repeated the process but with Flashdrive 1.
And the very same course was repeated.
Again I repeated the process but with Flashdrive 3 (with the very same ISO on it).
The install of windows succeded without any problem at all!
Note: When booted up in OSX i can read and format all the drives wiihout any type of error.

  • What hbmi cord do I need to connect my Macbook Pro retina display to a Windows desktop?

I'm trying to connect my Windows desktop to my Macbook Pro retina dispay so i can transfer CD's. ALthough I dont know what cord to get.

Your post is a little confusing. HDMI is for connecting video, like hooking your Mac to a TV. It sounds like you want to transfer files. If you have a wireless network, just share the folder with the music on your Windows machine and you should be able to copy it to your Mac.

  • Macbook pro Retina 16GB Ram, Install Windows 8 Problem

I cant install windows 8 in 32 or 64 bit on my macbook pro retina with 16 GB of RAM
The instalation progran wont let me install windows on the bootcam partition it appears to be a problem with the MBR Partition Table  on EFI System and windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

    Hey,
if you use windows 8 also for gaming on windows, i would wait until bootcamp is been suitable for windows 8 because for gaming it is much better to do it with bootcamp because Parallels, Fusion etc. are making a detour to use windows ( definately not good for games that score high on graphics).
If you use windows only for utility programs, it is definitely easier to use Parallels 8 etc.
I hope I could help you!

  • MacBook Pro Retina Problems with Headphone jack, Speakers, USB Port, MagSafe 2 and the hard drive

I took my MacBook Pro Retina 2.6GHz i7 to the genius bar to have the headphone jack looked at. I was told they could easily fix it but had to order the part. That day I took it home and returned to the store once I was notified that the part arrived so I could drop it off for repair. 3 days after I dropped my computer off with the genius bar I missed a phone call and returned to my iphone with a new voicemail. It said something like this, "Hello Tim, I just wanted to let you know that we replaced the headphone jack but it turned out not to be the problem and the problem was actually with the logic board. Don't worry though, we went ahead and replaced that for you, however, after that was done, the speakers stopped working but the headphone jack is fixed. We have to order new speakers to put in your computer b/c we don't have those on hand either."
Long story short, they fixed the speakers but, "had to order another part to repair the USB port." So I am waiting for that to be repaired but the dang AC Power to the actual computer does not work now!!! It's not the magsafe 2 charger that I have or the outlets I tried it in b/c I tried multiple chargers and multiple outlets. I am very frustrated! I have been without my computer for almost 2 weeks and still have to take it in at least twice more to get the power working this weekend and then again next week to (hopefully) get the USB port working.
At what point should I ask for a new computer or a refund? I have been using Apple Computers my whole life, I have had 8 different mac laptop models and have not had a problem until this computer. I am very frustrated with the support I have received from Apple as a whole.

Contact Apple Customer Relations and let them know that you're not happy. With the logic board replacement, everything else should have been evaluated and fixed at the same time. It sounds as if you just got a lemon. You could plead your case for a replacement unit, I would think, since your machine is being 'replaced' piecemeal...
    Good luck,

  • Macbook Pro (2010) slow/unresponsive booting OSX from Windows

    Hello All,
Let me introduce myself. My name is Josh and I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and also pursuing an Info Sec degree. As such I was forced to boot camp Windows 7 on my Mac in order to complete certain classes needing Windows and Windows software. I am running into some issues that I can not seem to work around. First I will give the stats of my computer then try to explain the issues I am encountering.
    Macbook Pro 13inch  Mid 2010
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    16GB memory
    Crutial 256 GB SSD
    OSX 10.9.2
    Windows 7 Professional
    New battery
I partitioned the SSD in half for both Windows and OSX. Each has around 30 GB of data on each side. I installed the SSD and memory around 6 months ago and everything worked flawlessly. Needing Windows and being cheap I decided to dual boot, through bootcamp, the two operating systems. Install, although a pain, was completed sucessfully and worked great. It has been installed for about 3 months and ran flawlessly. I have kept up with updates on both sides and running antivirus on Windows. I rarely do any work besides school on Windows but run the antivirus regularly for protection. These issues arose a few days ago. One issue I encounter periodically is that when booting to Windows I hold down the control key and it still loads OSX. I have to try several times to get it to boot Windows. Sometimes it works first try. Once in Windows everything works as it should and fast with the memory and SSD. When I shut down the computer and return to OSX everything loads as normal with the same speed except when I go to open an application. It takes several minutes of spinning wheel for it to open. Until then it is slow and often unresponsive. If I let it run its course it will eventually calm down and work correctly. During this time the fan kicks on. Another issue is that sometimes one of my external hard drives fails to read. I can unplug and plug it back into each of the USB hubs with no luck. The two external hard drives I have are one for Time Machine backups- 1TB Western Digital and the other for all my work- 1TB Western Digital. Each hard drive is scanned with Windows 7 during antivirus checks. Finally, I installed a new battery, as mine was gone, and since the install I do not get the same life span out of a charge (around 5 hours max with little use). If anyone has any advise please feel free to contribute. I would like to solve the issue. Thank you for your time and if you need any more information I would happily provide.
Also: I will be creating another thread for two more Macbook Pros I am working to resolve issues.
    Josh

    Josh,
have you tried resetting your MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller, to see if it would have any effect on your battery life and fan frequency?

  • MacBook Pro Retina won't install windows 7 64bit

Hi guys, i'm tryng to install windows 7 64bit but no success till now. I'm using an updated version ( service pack 1 integrated) when windows loads i can't install it on the bootcamp partition because it says"windows needs an ntfs partition to install" . Then i cancel that partition, create one new ntfs one, and try to install.... then windows tells me "Impossible to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. For further information, look at the program's registry files"
It seems to be an error caused by a defective driver of the controller of the hard disk.... so the controller of the ssd. Or is it something else? how can i install windows via bootcamp on the new macbook pro with retina display?

you format the FAT/MSDOS to NTFS inside the Windows installer.
    Windows installer: Advanced Options tab.
You don't create, you just use the one "BOOTCAMP" that was created by Boot Camp Assistant.

The Boot Camp Assistant can burn Boot Camp software (drivers) to a DVD or copy it to a USB storage device, such as a flash drive or hard drive. These are the only media you can use to install Boot Camp software.

  • Just got a new "late 2013" Macbook Pro Retina, want to install Windows! (Newbie!)

    Hello everyone!
I am brand new to the Apple Community and would like to pick at some brains here!
I just recently bought a new "late 2013" Macbook Pro here and would like to run Microsoft OneNote on my macbook. I have 2 predictaments though!
    1. Which Windows OS is recommended? I searched around and seem to have found that alot of people are having issues with the Windows 8.1 version. Should I just stick to Windows 7?
    2. Also, I know that the Macbook Pro does not have an optical drive; what is the best way to go on about getting the Windows 7 ISO onto a thumbdrive? Would I have to do it through another computer and burn the ISO on the thumbdrive there? Or is there a way to purchase Windows from my Macbook and download from the sellers website and just run Bootcamp to burn the image onto there?
Thank you and I look forward to joining this community!
    Don

I am new to the community as well but have been an apple genuis for a while.  The way I put windows on my mac (late 2012 pro) last year was I bought windows 7, and used bootcamp to install it.  I would have someone at best buy or a tech store do it for you though. If you dont want to pay $200 for windows 7, you can just buy an app called parallels (also at like a best buy) and use that.  I believe it is around $75 but not sure.  Hope this helps

  • VMware Fusion 6 (v 6.0.2), 15" MacBook Pro Retina (late-2013), and Windows 8.1

Does anyone the best recommended settings for the items listed in the subject line?  Resolution looks so small.  I installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my late-2013 15" MacBook Pro (MBP) via VMware's Fusion 6 (version 6.0.2).
    Thanks.

If you used VMware Fusion to install Windows, first make sure you have installed VMware Tools in Windows. Read > http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=display KC&externalId=1003417
Then, you will be able to change the Windows resolution as usual. In Windows, right-click in the desktop and select "Screen resolution". There are other ways to do this > http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/get-best-display-monitor.
There are not best recommended settings because it depends on the hardware of your computer: for example, if you have got 8 GB of RAM, you can assign 4 GB of RAM to the virtual machine (depending on the applications you use), or if you have got a Quad-Core processor with Hyper-Threading, you can assign more processor threads to the virtual machine so you can improve performance.

  • Help: Macbook Pro Retina won't boot past Grey screen w/ Logo

    All,
My computer died last night with each application not responding. I couldn't shut down normally so I held the power button to turn it off.
Next morning, I tried to boot the MacBook Pro and the boot process stalled at the grey screen with the Apple Logo and spinning wheel. I let it go for an hour and there was no change on the screen. Based on Apple's help desk I ran Hardware diagnostics (extended with looping disabled) and got the following error
    4HDD/11/40000000: SATA (0,0)
    The screen shot is below
I ran this again with standard testing (no looping) and standard with looping and all gave the same results.
Any ideas? The compute will not boot.
    Thank you
    Phillip

That's what I thought but was able to do CMD-R and verify/repair permissions the disk. My hard drive is actually a flash drive so I'm guessing the controller or motherboard.
I do have it backed up with the last 24 hours ago.
    Thanks
    Phillip

  • Macbook Pro Won't Do Lion Restore From USB

    Hi Users,
I am exhausted. Graduate school is starting again. I have been to way too many forums and I am about to throw this piece of junk called a MacBook Pro in the trash and call it a lost. I will tell you why I am so frustrated:
    1. Wanted to reload Mac OSX + bootcamp to install W7. Did a bunch of things on another forum that just made things worse.
    2. Now my mac is so jacked up I am trying to do a OSX restore on my USB.
    Problem Description:
My macbook lion will not restore from the app store. I put the USB in the computer. I get to the restore Lion window and then it tells me that it will take 99
hours to reload. I do not believe it is even contacting the store. I don't want a bunch of nonsense about how my wifi isn't working or something like that.
I would like to know how to get into the terminal and just freaking reset everything so that even the lion restore on my USB would freaking work.
I am going to take this piece of crap into the store tomorrow, but I have to say, as a computer science major. This is a piece of ####. I can't believe I even
used to be a mac fan boy. This diskless stuff was a great idea, but makes doing major restores a pain. Also, I tried doing a disk DVD restore and even that is jacked up. Sigh...
Frustrated Geek. Thanks for your patience all. I am frustrated at the machine, but not you all.

Can you give some specifics about your situation.
Which MacBook Pro do you have? Did it ship with Lion or is it a pre-Lion model? Do you have the Lion installer on a USB key? Do you have a backup of your MacBook Pro data in case you need to reformat your drive? Do you have a fast internet connection?
What have you attempted so far to restore your OSX Lion partition?
Have you started up from the Recovery Partition? If so, did you have any success downloading Lion from the App store?
Users here are generally helpful if you can provide a little more information.
