Macbook Pro to Old TV

I'm still in the stone age and have just a regular CRT Toshiba TV. How can I hook my Macbook Pro to my TV? Do I need a couple of cables? Is there a mini-dvi to RCA/S video?

There is no adapter to go from Mini-Displayport to composite, component, or S-Video. Apple isn't interested in supporting antique technologies whose quality can't measure up to a MacBook Pro. To connect to your old TV, you'll need to buy something like this combination:

  • Transfer iPhone backup to new macbook pro from old macbook pro

I bought a new macbook pro last week, but, I need to transfer my iTunes library (music, apps, podcast, photos, other) from my old macbook pro to my new macbook pro and the iPhone backup, off course, please, I have read entire hours on google but I can´t found anything, I don´t know what I can do

As roaming gnome noted, to copy iTunes , simply copy the entire iTunes folder.
Just backup your iPhone to the new computer (after you copy the iTunes folder).

  • Migrating info from old Macbook Pro to new  Macbook Pro and old laptop loses charge midway and transferring stops.  After recharging how do I get things going again?

Migrating info from old Macbook Pro to new Macbook Pro and original laptop loses charge midway thru.  After charging again how do I get things going, do I start from the beginning?

Agreed. Don't even think about starting a long, disc-intensive process like that without both machines powered by AC.

  • New Macbook Pro with old Macbook HD

Is it possible to upgrade to a new macbook pro and use the old HD from my current macbook. I would like to get the performance upgrade without having to reload all my programs and other things. It will also make it easier to put the new HD from the new macbook pro into the old mb and have it as new without my info inside and have all the latest software installed and clean. Also , what is the max amount of memory on a 15" mbp.

The OS version being the same is irrelevant - the hardware is different. One example - your new MBP has dual graphics cards. The 'old' OS won't support that, because the hardware wasn't present on the old machine, so necessary components (call them drivers if you like) weren't installed.
To be blunt, if you swap the drives or clone over the old system, you will have problems. You can do that with _the exact same model_ but not an older one.

  • Is my MacBook Pro too old for Mountain Lion?

I was trying to buy Mountain Lion online but it wouldn’t let me, saying unavailable for purchase or something.
Im at 10.6.8 on a 17” MacBook Pro.
    Is my computer too old?
If so, What is the highest software I can get?
I sure cant afford a new laptop, but is it going to be useless if I can never get an updated OS?
Is there anything I could buy (BESIDES a new laptop) to keep going with the one Ive got?
Laptop still works darn fine and I just love it…help?

10.6.8 is the best OS you should be running on that older model of machine.
1: Best Performance, 10.6.8 is tested faster than 10.7.
2: Runs your presently PPC based programs, 10.7+ won't.
3: Doesn't need even more RAM like 10.7+ does. (4GB+)
Apple is issuing security updates for 10.6.8, however no Safari 6 for 10.6.8 so you need to use Firefox instead.
Your machine came out in 2006 apx, so it's almost 6-7 years old, my congradulations on getting such a good lifespan out of that machine. Usually the average is about 5 years for laptops.
Don't worry about becoming outdated, if Apple stops issuing security updates, then don't do anything online like banking etc. that's all.
Apple is issuing a new OS X version annually now, so it's no big deal refusing to keep up with all their idiotic changes anymore.
Seems the OS that came with the machine is usually the best choice in a lot of cases, only one that really improved was 10.5 machines that got 10.6, every OS X version after that slowed down the machine or took features away for apparantly obscure reasons.
My advice, if it works fine, don't mess with it, be happy it works.

  • Cable for MacBook Pro and old lacie hardrive

    Hello
I have just upgraded to a MacBook Pro after using a G4 Powerbook since 2004. I had also for the same time used a Lacie 160gb hardrive as back-up. And i guess you know what is coming next. The lead from the Lacie will not fit into the MacBook. I had a quick look at the cables at Apple Shop but it all just looked like a blur to this old fellow. Can someone point me in the right direction please.
    Thank You
    Steve Starmer

You need a FireWire 400 (6-pin) to FireWire 800 (9-pin) cable or adapter:

  • Started MacBook Pro from old backup. Don't recall password.

When turning on my new MacBook Pro for the first time it asked if I wanted to boot from a backup. I had one from March 2013 so I used that, but now it seems to want the password I used then. And I don't remember it. Any way to add a new user from the login window?

I recommend visiting this discussion for how to reset your password: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23617156#23617156

  • Macbook Pro showing old name in DHCP Client List

When I originally set up my macbook pro, I gave it a name, we will say 'X'.  Since then, I've changed the name to 'Y', however whenever I connect to a wireless access point, if I login to the access point and list the clients, it shows 'X' as my host name.  What I have tried:
System Preferences->Sharing and entered the new computers name
Sysem Preferences->Network->Wi-Fi, clicked Advanced and set a Client ID under TCP/IP as well as changed my Netbios name under WINS
I'm at a loss as to why 'X' keeps showing up as the client ID on wireless access points after I've changed it on the system.  There must be another location where that is stored.
Short of doing a full file scan for 'X', does anyone have any idea where else I can look and change this on the macbook pro?
    Thanks!

Power cycle your dhcp server (router). The dhcp protocol retains ip address and computer information for reassignment to the same device whenever possible. Force the router dhcp router to reconnect and reissue a dhcp address by power cycling the router.

    2. How do I take care of it to prolong life?
    4. What are the things that I should not do on my MBP or with my MBP?
To be honest you don't really need to. This is a great thing about Macs. You can use it without paying attention to this and it will still last longer than a Windows PC that you treated like a baby.
I use my computers (Windows and Mac) very heavily (12+ hours per day) for heavy use, and they are treated roughly. The Windows computers, under this treatment, used to last under a year (cast falling apart, mouse buttons fall off, screen comes loose etc) however my MacBook Pro for example is still in perfect condition after about 1 and a half years now.
    3. What apps do I need to install for a somewhat generic user like me?
iWork is good, it is like Microsoft Office and costs a lot less. It is also Office compatible. If you have Microsoft Office then it is probably not needed though.

  • New MacBook Pros with old SSDs?

I'm ordering a MacBook Pro soon, and I'd like to install my own SSD which currently has Windows.  It's SATA 2, from 2008, and it's a Samsung (Model Number: MCCOE64G5MPP-0VAD1).  Will this work?

It will work as long as it is 9.5mm or less in height, everything else seems to be fine (I googled the model # to check it out).  It will also need to be erased and reformatted in Disk Utility (found in your utilities folder).  Mac OS Extended (Journaled) is the most widely used format unless you also plan to run Windows on your soon to be mac.

  • How do I sync MacBook Pro's old iCal calendar with iPhone 4?

I had MobileMe, which as you all know, was not a perfect program. MobileMe left me with duplicates of every Calendar but I am not sure which one to delete of each pair for fear of losing date. But it did sync my iPhone and my iCal on my MacBookPro. So when it was suggested that I move to iCloud, I thought: Great idea. Maybe this program will work better!
Well now I have no syncing between iCal calendar and iPhone iCal calendar.
Does anyone know how to use this thing?
    AGH!
Thanks for any help you can shoot my way. Assume idiocy: step 1, step 2, step 3 appreciated and for each device if you know how to fix this!

Contacts and calender you can put on icloud then sync to your new phone when its setup to the icloud account. Not sure so with emails.

  • My 4month old Macbook pro wont turn on unless plugged in, but remains on after unplugged.

I got a brand new macbook pro 4months old.  What happens is it does not turn un unless it is plugged in when I unplug it though it is fine and will run till it dies, BUT if I were to close it and put it to sleep it will not turn back on. I would have to plug it back in and turn it on then I can unplug it and it will be fine till it falls back asleep.
Once I do turn it back on, a pop up says that I need to re adjust the clock and another trying to search for the internet, even if I was already connected with is 5 min ago. Even apps like tweetdeck and facbook would reset and I would have to enter all my information again, where as before it would just remain there.
I have NO idea why it is like this and I am not really familiar with a Mac and its OS but any information would be greatly appreciate!
    Thanks!
    Yoshi

Bring it to an Apple store or AASP. You are under warranty.

  • Can i take garageband old OS X disc and put on my new macbook pro

i just purchased my new macbook pro my old mac died I'm not happy with new garagband can i take old garageband off of my old OS X disc as a single file without  redownloading old operating system 08 OS X old garageband you could add effects to effects

I purchased a Macbook Pro on Nov 2 2011 which was pre-installed with Lion and I'm trying to install Snow Leopard on it. It won't recognise my SL Install Disc at all and just hangs so I wiped the drive and attempted to start up from a bootable SL memory stick. I got an audible alarm from the Macbook Pro which would only stop when I restarted the computer. I had to re-install Lion from a Time Machine back up via the internal recovery disk. I'm pretty sure that late 2011 MBP will not take SL but I'm waiting for a Firewire 400 to 800 cable to arrive so I can try to wipe the internal drive entirely and install via Target Disk mode. I'm not hopeful but I gotta try as I need Snow Leopard to run Pro Tools and other programs. If only I'd bought it before October 24th this wouldn't be happening!!!!!!!!!!
