Macbook Pro won't connect to wifi but other computers are working perfectly

Hi,
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro that connects to WiFi no problem anywhere else - except for my parent's house (who I am currently visiting).  There are 2 other PCs in the house that connect to the WiFi without a problem, as does my iPhone.  When I try to connect, the Network Setup Assistant keeps saying "Connection Timeout" and then when I go into "Assist Me" the error comes up as "The password you entered is invalid."   I know that the password is correct, but I can't get passed this step...tried restarting computer and router but no luck.
Help!!

Click the Advanced button in the Network preference pane, then the TCP/IP tab. Type something (anything, as long as it's unique) in the DHCP Client ID text box. Click OK, then Apply. Reopen the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP lease.

Help! My new Macbook Pro won't connect to my home's existing WIFI network. The other computers (PCs) are running on it without a problem but when I try to join the network it rejects my password as being incorrect, though it definitely is the right one!

Check to make sure the Caps Lock is off.
What type of wireless security are you using? If it's WEP Mac's don't do WEP anymore and you will need to change it to WPA or WPA2.

  • TS1398 New IPad mini won't connect to wifi but other technical divices can, HELP!!

I just bought a new ipad mini and tried to connect it to BT business hub but I waited more than I need to so I turned it off and restared again and i tried 3 times and tried all the ways to connect to wifi on the internet but it still wouldn't connect I need help T-T

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • MacBook Pro says its connected to wifi but doesn't work(or goes super slow)when the wifi works for everyone else Help!

I have recently gotten a MacBook Pro (through my highschool so it is monitored by them) and ever since I brought it home it's been having wifi connection problems. It says the wifi is working fine, it shows full bars, but when I try to connect to the Internet it acts like there is only one bar or no bars. Although every one and a while I can get a great connection but it lasts for about 10 minutes. This I do not get because the wifi works perfectly fine for everyone else in the house and for our phones too. So if anyone else could help me I would be soo happy. Thanks.

I have had the same issue and searched the forums and found nothing that helped. I contacted apple support and this is what they told me to do:
First we’ll do the SMC reset
1.) Shut down the Mac and connect to power source.
2.) Unplug external devices, flash drives, external monitors, external HD (Keep the Mac plugged into power source)
3.) Hold down “Shift” + “Control” + “Option” (On the left side of the keyboard) + Power key for 30 seconds.
*The Mac should remain powered off during the reset, the LED on the MagSafe Adapter may change colors.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Awesome, now let’s reset the NVRAM
    1.) Locate these keys “Command”, “Option, “P” & “R”
    2.) Power on your Mac
3.) Immediately press and hold all 4 keys “Command” “Option” “P” “R”
4.) Listen for 2 boot chimes and then release.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Posting this here in the hopes that it will help someone else still searching for an answer.

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to wifi router

My laptop won't connect to my wifi at home when I go into my room. The wireless router is on the other end of the house and I know you'll probably say it's out of range, but i've been in the same room for 2 years and i've never had problem connecting it until up to a couple of weeks ago. Nothing has changed in the set up of the house, it just randomly stopped connecting. Can anyone suggest what may be wrong??
    Thanks.

It could be that one of your neighbors has added a router that's basically overpowering yours. Try logging into the router and changing the wireless channel.

  • Macbook Pro won't connect to wifi while all other macbooks in house will.

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 and we got wifi at the house this afternoon. It will not connect, if I open network diagnostics the top four lights are green, internet and server are red. There are two other macbooks in the house(at least one also running 10.6.8) and two ipads, all of which connect with no problem. The macbbok in question connects fine at coffee shops and, up until a week ago, fine with the wifi at my last apartment.
We are using Charter and the router is a Motorola SBG941.
Thanks for any advice you can give!

Change your router channel.  Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router.  Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.

    Unlock the padlock

    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button

  • My macbook pro won't connect to wifi

Every other computer in the house connects just fine, but mine won't connect.  Airport says I'm connected, I've picked the correct network, can't figure out what is wrong.  This has been happening periodically since I started using this network 6 months ago.  I never had any problems before that.  I can usually connect just fine, but every couple of week it is down for 2-3 days, then it just mysteriously starts working again.  I've tried deleting and recreating airport as I've sen suggested elsewhere, but that did nothing.  Not sure what to try now.
    Thanks for the help.

Restart the router. Wait until all the lights are lit up.
    Restart the computer.

  • My iphone 4s won't connect to wifi but other people's do

I have a new iphone 4S and it won't connect to the wi fi at our home.  Other people in my family have iphones or nexus and they all will connect.
I enter the password and the wireless symbol appears for a second but then it says unable to connect.
I have no trouble connecting to other wifis in other locations.
Thanks in advance, it is getting very frustrating.!!!

Just had this same problem I went to the apple store today and they told me my wifi card was out and then gave me a new phone but I backed it up and it's not working again so they said one of my apps might have a virus that is interfering with my wifi so it's back to apple again tomorrow They said they will give me another new phone but I will have to set it up as new and will probably lose everything except the contacts that I have backed up so if I were you I would back up your pics and everything else in iCloud

Help! My Facetime and iMessage just totally stopped working on my MacBook Pro - my wifi is still connected and all other apps/internet are working fine.  What happened??

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.

  • EMac won't connect to internet, but other computers will?

So I've got this problem with my eMac.
I've been trying to get it to connect to the internet through my cable modem, and it hasn't worked yet. However, all my other computers (including the vista x64 laptop I'm typing this on right now) connect within 3 seconds of being plugged in.
I've tried plugging the eMac into the both hubs, even plugging it directly into my cable modem, and it still generates some weird IP (169.254.130.32, subnet 255.255.0.0) which isn't even close to right.
I tried manually inputting the same IP/subnet/gateway info from my laptop, and it still wouldn't connect.
    Any ideas?

Hi AttackBadger, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Any 169.254.x.x addy means it's not being dealt an IP from any DHCP device.
I tried manually inputting the same IP/subnet/gateway info from my laptop, and it still wouldn't connect.
You'd have to use a different IP than any other on the Network, but same Mask & Router.
even plugging it directly into my cable modem, and it still generates some weird IP (169.254.130.32
For that to work since Modems only talk to the last device since powering up, you'd need to power down everything, wait 5 minutes, power up the Modem, wait 2 minutes, power up the eMac.
Does this Ethernet cable work on other computers?
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.

  • MacBook Pro won't connect to WiFi after installing a new modem...

WiFi set up fine on the other Mac in the house (MacBook Air) and on my Android phone (using WPS button on modem). I can find the network in the dropdown, but when I enter the password, it says "invalid"—even though it's correct. In the Network portal, I also get an error message saying that there is "no IP address"? Can't set up on iPad either. All used to connect just fine to the old network, just by entering a password. Any thoughts?

Hmmm...yes, there should be, although resetting the modem isn't hard (unless they mean something along the lines of resetting to factory settings). I wonder, tho, if the modem is old enough that something in your new computer is not communicating with it.
Can you connect with an ethernet cable? That might help you figure out if it really is a problem with your modem. You might also check with your internet service provider. I realize not all of them can deal with Macs, but if you rent the modem, they might be able to get you a newer model and if not, they may be able to make a suggestion.

  • Brand new MacBook Pro won't connect to WiFi after one day.

I got my MBP replaced by Apple on Sunday. I used it a bit that night, and let migration assistant transfer everything over from by backup drive overnight. I used it for a few more hours the next day, no problems. I brought my computer over to my friend's room (we're in a dorm building) and tried to connect to her WiFi. Whenever I try to connect to a network, there's an "!" over the WiFi bars in the status bar, and in Network Preferences, under WiFi, it say "No IP Address."
I am having the same issue in my Windows partition as well, which leads me to suspect this is a hardware issue. I am still able to view WiFi networks. I just cannot connect. Any suggestions? Thanks.
