MacBook Pro won't wake from sleep after installing Snow Leopard
If my MacBook Pro is running while closed with an external display and I unplug it from the display it goes to sleep - as indicated by the white light and the front pulsing. If I then open the MacBook the display remains blank and it is completely unresponsive to any keys or track pad input.
The only thing it responds to at that point is holding the power button down until it powers down and then restarting - loosing all work in progress at that point.
Before installing Snow Leopard the Mac would wake reliably when opened from this state.

Since upgrade to OSX 8.2 new Retina Macbook Pro won't wake from sleep. Tablet lights are on in morning and fans running like crazy, but it requires hard quit and start. Tried with no apps running, no change. It was fine before this last update. Wasn't the recent firmware update supposed to fix this issue? It seems to have started one for me.
I have the exact same problem with my Macbook Pro OS 10.8.4. What happens is: I work on the train, press cmd/alt + eject to put to sleep..pop it in my bag...get home or office... open the lid...and nothing! Battery indicator shows I have plenty of juice but it will not wake up no matter what key I press.
The only difference between use on the train and home/office is the plugging in of peripherals and mains power. It happens sparadicially, perhaps once or twice a week and I always send a 'panic report', so somewhere there will be approx 20 reports of this fault at Apple. -

All that cursor means is that it is busy trying to do something. You can see if force quitting solves the problem with a simple force quit using command-option-escape. If you are having issues with iCal quitting, sometimes it doesn't always know whether or not it is properly communicating with a particular calendar. This can be a Mobileme issue, or even a phone synchronization issue, or a network issue reaching a shared calendar. Shutting down a machine directly from a cursor is the last step one should try, only after all others have failed. If you have done this in the past, lurking corruption can get worse each time with the directory, and upgrading the system will only enhance any corruption already present. When you restart your Mac, does everything appear to be normal? -

Use Software Update or the OS 10.6.8 combo update to update your OS. Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer as well as your USB connected devices. When done, repair permissions and restart your computer. -
MacBook Pro (Early 2008) battery health drop after installing Snow Leopard?
I installed Snow Leopard last Friday, when after the installation, I clicked my battery icon as I was looking through the new OS- and noticed that it said "Service Battery" which I hadn't seen before. So I looked in System Profiler and noticed that the maximum charge was around 3400mAh, quite a bit lower than the 5400mAh that it started with 14 months ago. So thinking that it might just be displaying incorrectly, I did a battery calibration (it was about that time anyway) as per the instructions on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490 and when I plugged it back in after letting it sit in sleep for five hours, it shows 2848mAh as the maximum charge. There is no way that it would have lost ~600mAh worth of charge capacity through one calibration. The battery only has 198 cycles on it, and it states on http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html that the battery is designed to have 80% charge capacity at 300 cycles. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to improve battery health, short of buying a new one? Or does Apple cover batteries in cases like this?

I followed the procedure on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490, since I had the same problem (my battery capacity was significantly low compared to the cycles, I had ~2800 mAh (60%) for only 60 cycles) and when I rebooted the computer, it even dropped down to ~2095 mAh (40%) !! *So the good advice is to _NOT follow HT1490_ advice...*

I guess I'll have to take a meeting at Genius Bar to the closest Apple store... Did anyone got his battery replaced ? I think this is one serious issue where Apple should either :
1. Remove this bad advice's page and warn users against it
2. Upgrade the battery's firmware (is there any?) or OS battery life detection
Anyway it's very annoying that when doing a "recommended" manipulation, it even makes the problem worse !! -
MacBook pro won't wake from sleep must remove battery
We have an early 2008 15" C2D MacBook pro. Frequently when we put it to sleep, it won't wake up. It doesn't respond to the power button. We have to pull the battery, wait a few minutes reinstall it and reboot.
What should we check out? Or are we better off taking it to the Store and getting it fixed. It's under Applecare.When my late 2007 C2D MBP started doing that, it was after traveling with the computer. I finally reviewed the system log to find that, on attempting to wake, the computer was looking for the network at a hotel where we had stayed.
I opened System Preferences > Network, selected "Airport" and clicked on "Advanced." On the first tab is a list of networks the computer has remembered. I found the hotel network name and deleted it, along with about a dozen other now-remote networks accumulated during travel. I also unchecked "Remember any network this computer has joined."
Works fine now. All that show are the two local networks I use the most: one for home and another for a museum where I volunteer.
Easy to try, although I agree with tjk to have the Apple Store document the issue in case it proves to be something more sinister. -
TS3824 My iMac won't wake from sleep after installing the most recent OS update.
I'm having trouble with my iMac, the screen won't wake up after it goes to sleep. The one time it did the screen was all fuzzy and pink. This has only happened in the last few hours after installing the latest OS X Lion update. Is this normal? Can someone help?
Hello, not normal.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Permissions.

MacBook Pro won't wake from sleep
I shut down using the apple menu, but closed the lid right after the icons on the desktop went away and didn't wait for it to fully shut down. Came back about an hour later to start it up again and after pressing the power button it starts up (makes fan noise) but all I see is a black screen (indicator light on front is dim). When I shut the lid the indicator light gets brighter (as if in reverse of putting it to sleep by closing the lid). Have tried doing a force shutdown by holding the power button down for 10 seconds and restarting. The computer seems to restart but screen is dark. Indicator light never pulsates as if really in sleep mode. I've plugged in battery to see if it needed chargeing, but the green light is on saying it's charged (as opposed to the orange light)Can anyone help?
If this is happening while you are using wireless networking, try this:
Mine did that when I let a bunch of wireless networks picked up during travel accumulate. A review of the system log showed that, on waking, the MBP was searching for a specific hotel network 60 miles away, where I'd stayed about 10 days before. To fix:
1) Open System Preferences > Network and make sure the Airport is selected
2) Click "Advanced" at the bottom of the airport page. A new window will appear, hopefully with its "Airport" tab selected. If not, make it so.
3) Using the + and - buttons, clear out all networks to which you no longer connect on at least a weekly basis.
4) Uncheck "remember networks this computer has joined."
It takes less time to do this than read what I typed. so try it and see if the sleep issues go away. I know this has fixed the sleep problem on many others MBPs. -
When my MacBook pro late 2011 wakes from sleep i have it set to make me enter my password, but when that pace comes up the resolution of it is smaller than my screen. Why is this happening?
I was at the Apple Service. The problem was the 750Gb Toshiba HDD. It's incredible what noise can make that little thing
I didn't know the hdd position is on left on MBP 17" , I thought is the same position like MBP15"
I did't lose any kind of data.. it was fix on time.

Macbook Pro Won't Wake From Deep Sleep
I'm having issues from my Macbook Pro waking from a deep sleep after my battery dies. If the battery dies and it goes into sleep, my Macbook Pro won't wake even if it's connected to power. I can remove the battery, hold down the power button, press keys and nothing happens.
I know the obvious thing is to not let the battery die, but I don't always work near outlets.
I've tried resetting the nvram and smc and nothing has worked. I'm probably going to bring it into Apple soon, but I really can't be without my computer for class.Yes, I've tried that. It doesn't work. I've left the battery in, I've taken it out and left it out for a bit and nothing seems to work. It just turns back on whenever it feels like it.
I just had a sort of similar issue with a restart (no dead battery this time though). After my computer shutdown from a restart, it didn't want to boot back up. After holding down the power button and doing a few other things, I gave up. Then I closed the lid and set it down. It then decided to turn itself on.
I think I'm going to bring it in. I do massive amounts of design and web work on this thing and I can't have it messing up. -
Won't wake from sleep after listening to audiobook
If my ipod goes to sleep after I've been listening to an audiobook, I can't wake it again, and have to restart it. It always works again fine after I restart it, until it goes to sleep again. I only have this problem if I've played an audiobook since the last time I restarted, even if I then played music tracks after the audiobook. If I restart it and only listen to music, it will wake up just fine every time. As far as I can tell from playing around with it, this only happens if it goes to sleep on it's own, not if I put it to sleep. Everything else works just fine, but it's really annoying to have to restart everytime I let it sleep during a book! Also, if I have to restart it, when I go back to my audiobook it will no longer remember the track position. But if I go play some music, let it go to sleep, wake it up, and then go back to the audiobook, it will remember the position again! I am totally stumped on this, I have never had anything this weird happen with my ipod, and I've had it for around 2 1/2 years. I have the latest version of iTunes and the lastest version of the ipod software.

Good advice Mike! When in doubt check the ScreenSaver settings.
Definitely seems that it has a problem with that pic... In my case, selecting any images instead of the default setting (no screensaver) seems to have cured my non waking issue on my early Macbook Pro in Snow Leopard.
My original problem was that no amount of trackpad input woke it, but the space bar did. The space bar seemed to wake it up with the previous Screen Saver setting. Now trackpad wakes it up (even from total sleep as well as screen saver), too. Might be nice to know about if this is an intended 'feature' as a security trick. Otherwise I consider this a bug.
My vote is that it's a bug. -
Hello, I just recently replaced my internal hard drive in my MacBook [from a 250gb to a blank/empty 750gb]. I managed to get OS X Snow Leopard installed with the DVD. Setup seems to run fine at first, I get the screen in space with the welcome message different languages while music plays. Then I'm asked to select my country, then here is my problem- the next screen asks me to "Select Your Keyboard", I select & click "Continue" button, then my Mac is just showing the spinning beachball & it stayed that way all night =( I don't know how to fix this. Anyone experience this or have any solutions for me? I'd appreciate any help! Thank you! [I've been googling since yesterday with no luck on finding an answer].
It's diagnostic software. It's supposed to help you find problems. I don't think anyone is making any software yet that fixes hardware problems.

would lead me to think it's the logic board. On older MacBook Pro's both the USB I/O ports and the keyboard/trackpad are fed out of an integrated USB controller integrated into the South Bridge I/O controller. On newer models, the USB ports come out of an integrated North/South bridge controller and the keyboard/trackpad are handled by an SMC controller, which itself interfaces with the I/O controller. All of these items are on the logic board, and they're all unrepairable.
...unless of course the "internal drive [that] is installed in a cheap external case" is itself causing the problems. Another thing to try might be a different USB port, if you haven't done so already.
I didn't know the price for Scannerz went up. I could have sworn I only paid 30-some bucks for it. Maybe it was on sale at the time. I don't remember.

My macbook pro 2007 will not wake from sleep without holding down start button and then restarting? Is this a serious problem?
You can Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
You can run the Disk Utility> Repair Disk from Recovery ( command R on start)
if that does not sort it I would reinstall OS X -
MacBook Pro will not wake from sleep
My new 13" MacBook Pro will occasionally refuse to wake from sleep. Touching the keyboard or moving the mouse will turn on the keyboard background lights but the computer will not wake. This occurs without any peripherals attached. I have reset the PRAM and the SMC ... no help.
The only option for recovery is the hard power down with the power button and restart. Anyone else seeing this?Yes and I hate it. I am having pretty much the same problem, and have tried the same solutions, also Iupgraded to Lion and there still has been no relief. My computer just runs slower.
