Macbook recognizes TC but not IMac

Hi, my Macbook can complete backups, but the IMac can't see it. When I open time machine preferences on the IMac it only sees my external drive and not the TC. Very strange. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Also, in network preferences, it shows Airport "Not Connected". But I can see my MacBook on the network.

IMessage works on MacBook Pro and iPhone but not iMac

I am able to send messages via SMS and iMessage on my MacBook Pro and iPhone 5S but not on my iMac. On the iMac I get "Not Delivered" and "Try Again". I verified that the same iCloud account is being used on all. I can tell that the iMac and the phone are pairing as I get a message to that effect when I log into the iMac. All software is up to date 10.10.1 on the Macs and 8.1.2 on the iPhone.
I have tried logging out of my iCloud account on the iMac and logging back in. I have tried removing com.appple.imagent.plist from my Library/Preferences and rebooting. Neither worked though removing the plist file appeared to work but in reality the messages were not being delivered. Later the behavior went back to giving the error messages.
I have reported this to Apple but was hoping someone had found a solution.
This is from the log file when I try to send a message (my iCloud account replaced with xxxxxx, phone number I was texting to replaced with pppppp).

Based on information in another answer I tried the following ...
After doing what blueno suggested I did have to reboot. I then had to provide my password lots of times when I logged in. That still didn't work so I logged out of my iCloud account in Message and logged back in, repaired, and it worked!
This is what I did:
1) Open Key Chain Access ( go to Applications>Utilities)
2) Select Login at the top left side under Keychains
3) Select All Items on the lower left side under Category
4) Search for entries of IDS.
5) Highlight and delete all entries that has IDS.
6) Search for entries of FaceTime
7) Highlight and delete all entries of FaceTime
8) Search for entries of Messages (I also found entries containing Message (singular, not plural), but didn't delete these.)
9) Highlight and delete all entries of Messages
10) Reboot!
11) Log back in and when requested log back into iCloud account (I got asked for the password multiple times)
12) Log out of iCloud account in iMessage (Not sure if this is needed)
13) Log back into iCloud account in iMessage.
14) On iPhone in Settings/Messages/Text Message Forwarding turn off forwarding to my iMac.
15) Turn Text Message Forwarding back on for my iMac (re-pairs and I entered the new number)
16) Could send text messages from my iMac!!!!!
But it was short lived. One message was sent using SMS (that should have gone through using iMessage and then back to the same error message. So I am back to square one.

Pdf docs will load on MacBook but not iMac

I have an iMac and a Macbook Air. Both bought in the past three years. I am running a proprietary back end database which uses a browser as a front end and is Java dependant.. Both have current versions of OS Mavericks, Java, safari and mozilla. The database contains pdf docs that are displayed with the standard pdf icon. When I click on the icon in my MacBook, they load into Word or Adobe on a separate page. When I click on the icons in my iMac they do not load. Does anyone have and ideas?

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. I realized I was not clear. The docs are resumes. If they are Word docs, they open in Word. If they are pdf, they open in Adobe Acrobat Pro. These open fine on my MacBook Pro, but not the iMac. When I try opening them on the iMac, I get a Java error message. Any ideas?

Title overlay works fine on MBP but not imac. Why?

I have this problem with putting a title into FCPx that happens on my iMac but not on my MacBook Pro. I am hoping someone in here can explain to me why, and how to fix it. These are screenshots of the issue on my iMac, as well as screen shots of what it looks like when it's on my MacBook Pro, which is the way it's supposed to look.
The titles are .mov files with a transparent background.
iMac view - This is the original view on my timeline with NO title added
iMac view again - This is the view on my timeline when I put the title over my video on my iMac
MacBook Pro - It works perfectly on my MacBook Pro as can be seen here. This is the same exact frame as it is on my iMac.
FCPx is the most recently updated version on both. I just really need help with figuring out why it works on my macbook pro, my husband's macbook pro, but not my iMac. They are all the same version of FCPx.

You must be using proxy media on the iMac.
The ProRes proxy codec does not support an alpha channel, so the transparent parts would be black, as you are getting.

Express works for 2 laptops but not imac

Hi - I have Airport Express connected to Motorola cable modem. I have two macbooks both connecting to internet via Airport Express fine. But my iMac doesn't. iMac reports that AirPort is connected to xxx Network and has IP address 10.0.1.3 - the two macbooks show similar though last digit on IP is .2 and .4
I have tried 'assist me' etc to no avail. Have rebooted iMac, turned AirPort on and off etc but no joy. Any suggestions what to try next

In the Network panel of System Preferences on the iMac and one of the MacBooks, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, then select the "TCP/IP" tab. Compare the values you see for "Subnet Mask" and "Router". In the "DNS" tab compare the values for "DNS Servers". Any differences could explain why the connection is failing, but not necessarily explain why the values are different.
You might try resetting your connection settings on the iMac using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

USB1 Recognizes iPod But Not USB2

Hi,
I have a Dell laptop with WindowsXP installed. As far as I know my USB2 ports are all properly configured and working correctly. But, for some reason, when my USB2 is enabled, my computer doesn't recognize my (4thGen) iPod.
In order to update the iPod, I have to first disable my USB2, then everything works fine, albeit, at a much slower pave than USB2 (obviously.)\
Has anyone else had this similar problem? And, if so, any answers as to how to correct it?

I was milling around some other posts and tried all the suggestions I could find pertaining to this general issue (changing drive letter of iPod; removing all the USB ports, then re-starting the laptop; purchased an external powered USB2 hub; etc. - all to no avail.
I'm now wondering if, perhaps, this might be a hardware issue, perhaps some type of conflict pertaining to the manufacturer of my USB2 Controller? ( Intel(R)82801/FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller -265C )

Again, everything is fine and dandy if I disable the USB2 controller (above), then update, etc. the iPOd in the USB1-mode, but not OK when the USB2 is enabled.

Sleep iMac display but not iMac system?

I have a few new iMacs on our network and I'm not sure how to "turn off" the monitor, but leave the machine running? I would like the users to be able to turn of the display, but leave the machine running so nightly backups can take place. I've only been able to "sleep" the entire system + display, but not sure on how to just "sleep" the display?

Unless someone has come up with a hack of which I'm not yet aware we don't have access to manually sleep only the display.
In System Prefs/Energy Saver you can adjust the auto sleep settings to your liking. For example you can set the Mac to never sleep, but set the display to auto sleep after a period of inactivity.
In System Prefs/Desktop & Screensaver you can set a Hot Corner that activates the Screensaver on demand by parking the pointer in the hot corner. After the elasped time of inactivity set in Energy Saver the display will auto sleep.
If you are concerned about security you can set the Mac to require a password when deactivating the Screensaver or waking the display. You set this with a check box in the System Prefs/Security pane.

AE connects iTouch but not iMac.

Don't know what happened because it was working before. My iMac G5 works with an ethernet connection via a hub or directly to the router, but not with Airport Express. Over the past few days, I've tried everything I can think of repeatedly (e.g., resetting each unit, switching ethernet cables, disconnecting all overnight). I can get my G5, G3, Xbox, and AE to simultaneously access the internet via a cheap Dynex ethernet hub while my iTouch wirelessly connects to my ISP. I just can't get the G5 back to working wirelessly. It tells me when I am connected to AE and indicates a strong signal, but it fails to access the ISP. My network administrator says it is an Apple issue, not theirs, which appears to be a logical conclusion.

It's possible your ethernet port is damaged or it's dirty. Try blowing into the port. Use a flashlight to check the port for damage. When was the last time you connected your iMac to the ethernet & it worked?
What you can try w/your ethernet connect to the iMac is to run the diagnostic test.
System Preferences>Network>Ethernet>Assist Me>Diagnostics. Post the results of the test.

M1536 Windows 8.1 recognizes printer but not scanner

I just bought a new computer that runs Windows 8.1 64 bit. The computer immediately recognized my printer which is plugged into the router (as is my computer), but not the scanner. I found the software it came with and tried to install it and receiveda "fatal error" with no error code. I tried to download the software from hp's site, and when installing received the same error.How can I get the computer to recognize the scanner?Thanks,

Hi, Default basic driver from Windows allows you to print. You need to install full feature software and driver on new computer to be able to use full functions of your multi-fuction printer (or AIO printer). ITunes recognizes Nano but not iPhone

All of a sudden, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone. It recognizes my Nano immediately, but not the phone. It shows the phone charging fine, but I can't sync.

It took me the better part of two days to figure this out. Windows on my desktop computer had problems so I did a reinstall. After reinstallation my iphone would not sync with itunes. The computer would see it but not itunes. the odd thing was my iphone worked well with my itunes on my laptop. I called apple and they started off with "we can help you but I need to purchase some phone support for $$$". I said good day to that. Glad we have a forum like this to help each other out.
What I tried
- I did all the basic task on the support page and that didn't work.
- I tried to uninstall itunes and reinstall again that didn't work three times.
- I tried to uninstall itunes 9 for 8 and got some error that itunes needed some other file and would not load.
- I then read a post on this board about turning off the USB port. the same thing you are supposed to do when removing a thumb drive by closing the drive before removing it. I then reinstalled itunes 9 and now it works. don't ask me how or why it just does.
