Macbook retina display issues

Using a mid-2012 Macbook Pro 15 Retina, I recently noticed that some web text and graphics, even on Apple websites, are fuzzy.  Typically, especially an Apple site would appear fuzzy for a second or so, then "retina quality" would always kick-in and now graphics and text on SOME (not all) pages are fuzzy or un-Retina-like and stay that way. Sometimes after several minutes, the "retina quality" will kick-in, but not always.  Desktop and general application fonts, icons and photos outside the web appear retina-like without issue. Thanks for any advice or thoughts.

Try resetting the PRAM.
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

  • Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display Issues with Wifi with Bluetooth.

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 2.3 Ghz model.  I've noticed that while on wifi, when I use a bluetooth mouse or even turn on bluetooth on my computer, the wifi performance severely decreases for a short period of time.  While using a bluetooth mouse the wifi intermittently fails and I need to shut off wifi and turn it back on to correct the issue.
Using the ping utility on terminal I have confirmed this in that when bluetooth is turned on, a large number of packets are lost for about ten seconds.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem and is this an issue I can correct myself or should I contact Apple?
    Thanks

I have the same issue with my macbook pro with retina display. I have 2 macbook pros. I never would of thought that a bluetooth signal was interfering with both of them. I had a gateway wireless router that only had 2.4 Ghz 802.11 b/g, which is the same frequency of bluetooth. I know that bluetooth bounces from channel to channel, whereas wifi sticks to one constant channel (normally). I have reinstalled my mac twice, thinking that somehow my drivers were corrupted. This was false becuase everytime I reinstalled it did the same thing, Act fine for 5-10 minutes and randomly the internet connection would freeze up all together for 10-20 seconds. I have also tried contacting apple multiple times and they tried to do a smc and pram reset. They also tried to get rid of my chaches in my computer. It all seemed to be fine, and then when I got off the phone it would act us once more.
I have read numerous articles to try and fix the situation; one of them was to try change the location of the network and change the MTU size. No help. I called At&T (my internet provider) and got a new router and that did work for a while. But eventually acted up again. The router was still 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g. I read this article and found out that my Magic Mouse might be causing the issue. Turns out to be true. Everytime I would browser the internet or browse the itunes store and it would freeze, i would immediatly turn the bluetooth off and what do you know, it works!!! This is a huge dissapointment in apple however. It seems to be only a macbook pro w/ retina display issue. My other macbook pro only acts up when i'm using my newer one (something is wrong with the bluetooth and wifi in the retina for the 2.4 ghz frequencies.
I just got a Airport express, and have not experienced this issue what so ever. This is due to the fact that it is a dual band wireless router. It supports 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz both at 802.11 a/b/g/n which is a major improvement compared to what I had. I use the 5Ghz frequency and have no issues still.
This is still an issue however because if I want to go out and use anothers persons wifi, I can't control their frequency. So I will still have this issue.

  • Macbook Retina Display - Creaks when opening programs

My macbook retina display creaks randomly only when programs open.
For example, when diablo opens, it makes a creaking sound just underneath the keyboard.
When a youtube video starts playing, it creaks.
When i open chrome or safari, it creaks.
It only creaks at the beginning when programs starts running.
    Wierd.
    anyone having this problem too?
    Please share.
    cheers.

I imagine it is not an expected issue, as my 2010 MBP worked just fine.  Also, were the issue expected I would hope that it would be compensated for.  I am typing this response on the Retina MBP and there is definitely lag or letters disappearing all togther.  I am also typing this to get the screen shots of the activity monitor.
    Here are the results:
Also, when posting the pictures here in this message, the images seemed askew until I scrolled the screen a little.  It would seem to me a video card issue but I am not a Mac genius so I am just guessing.  I am using the default "best for retina" resolution setting.
This is also what I am saw just now as I was scrolling:
Notice the lines of text don't align.

  • Slightly misled & eye strain - Macbook Retina Display

Anyone else feel slightly misled over the new macbook "retina" display? Highest resolution ever in a laptop etc.
Well it isn't it's still basically the same 1440x900 desktop as my old macbook even if it is underpinned by 4 x the pixels.
If I deviate from the 1440 by upping the resolution to 1920 then the picture is not that sharp and I get eye strain.
I also run a Sony Vaio Z11 with a 1080p display (1920x1080) and that is on a 13" display and use that all day every day without problems.
Is it the off pitch resolution that is causing the problem, ie 1.5 pixels per desktop pixel thats causing the eye strain?

Unfortunately, the problem wasn't due to the glossy quality of the screen as I had purchased a hi-res anti-glare.  I will probably put an anti-glare film on the retina display if I make the purchase, as I also find glossiness to be annoying.  I do find it very interesting that you can use your matte LED screen for so long without trouble.  I wish I could have said the same, but 15 minutes on my returned 2011 LED matte Pro left me with headaches and strained eyes.  From reading the other large thread, it seems that some people are just more sensitive to the LED. Thanks for the response though!

  • CS5 on MacBook Retina Display

I recently installed CS5 on the new MacBook Retina Display and the program components show up very pixelated or at a low quality resolution. Is there an available update for CS5 customers or is it necessary to purchase the new CS6? Also, is there an update available to make the new CS6 compatible with this version of the MacBook and does it come at a cost?

There is no Retina support in CS5, plain and simple. In CS6 only Photoshop and Illustrator got a Retina update. Only the latest CC has all programs with Retina support.

  • CS3 pixelated on Macbook retina display

my CS3 design premium looks pixelated on my Macbook retina display. Can this be fixed?

You will have to live with it or sign up for CC if you want true Retina support.

  • Configure New TM on a New Macbook pro with retina display Issue

I have bought a new New Macbook pro with retina display laptop (Lion moutain OS)and a new TM (2TB).
I have an internet router with wireless connect.
I plugged TM to the router with an ethernet cable.
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
then I choose Time capsule from WiFi as shown below:
Then the airport utility (version 6.1) opened and start configuring TM but it gives an expected error when it is starting to join the TM!!!!
I have reset the TM several time but with no hope.
PS: I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6
I am struggling on this issue for weeks and I cannot yous TM on my macbook pro.
    Help please.

Time Capsule .. TC is the hardware box you bought.. Time Machine is the software you use in the Mac computer.. so what you generally refer to as TM is really TC.. !!
I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6
That is great.. you do not need to setup the Time Capsule at all then. It is already setup.. forget using 6.1 utility.. it is useless toy version.
Just use it.. open Time Machine and see if you can connect to the TC drive to do backup.. and to the wireless.
    From your statements..
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
You are trying to connect with both wireless and ethernet at once.. This can mess things up. choose wireless or ethernet.. not both.
If you keep running into issues.. reset the TC.. I know yet again.
Set it up using SMB names.. for both the TC itself and wireless.
Then lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. use channel 1, 6, or 11 (13 in europe) and see how it goes.

  • New Macbook Pro Retina Display Issue

    Hi,
I just purchased a new Macbook Pro, 15" Retina Display, 16Gb Ram, 2.3Ghz and finally got my hands on it last week after more than 5 weeks of waiting.
I have a issue for which I wasnt able to find anything on either Google, or this or any other forum.
At one point, after succsessfully installing windows 7 through Bootcamp, I got a set of 4 differently colored vertical stripes going along my MBP screen, starting with a very dark blue stripe on the far right, purple slightly thicker, then a copy of the first blue stripe and at last the thickest stripe which is sort of a very transparent black overlay (around 10% black overlay).
I can think of nothing, deleted windows, it's partition & all that (not that I would've made a difference but I'm kinda desperate). I am including a screenshot (in which everything looks normal even though the stripes are there) and a photo I just took with my iPhone.
The 4 stripes now turned into 2 (at least visibly). the transparent one and the 3 colored ones joined together as black.
Anyone ever got a similar problem?

  • Web Images and App Store Icons are distorted in MacBook Retina Display

Recently, most of the icons on Mac App Store are distorted. I also noticed this on web images when browsing using Safari or Google Chrome. By the word "distorted", I mean that the image was not properly loaded, it contains pink lines and multiple blue and pink dots. I even experienced this on Apple website. When I click on "Shop", the images for Macs, iPod, iPhone, etc. are distorted or you can see some image ghosting. I haven't experienced this issue on other non-web applications like Office, Finder, etc.
Do you think it is a problem with my machine, or my internet connection? My internet connection seems fine when I use other laptop or computer. I even tried browsing the web around 3 AM in the morning when the connections is fast, but the issue is persistent for web browsers (Safari and Chrome) and for App Store as well.
I am using 13" rMBP, by the way.

I can now observe the issue on websites that contain large graphics like Flickr. On another laptop (Windows), some websites are not loaded properly because of my internet connection. For my Mac, I think it would be best to test Safari and Chrome using a stable internet connection before asking for technical support just to rule out a possible cause of the problem. Also, some websites that I view, aside from the distorted images, contain codes (maybe HTML codes). This means that the web page is not loaded properly, right?
My connection speed is 0.48 Mbps for download speed and 0.28 Mbps for upload. Is this too slow for Retina display?
I bought my MacBook Pro during the first week of November and did not encounter any graphics issue until now. I used to browse the internet and the web images seems to be loaded properly.
I do not encounter any graphics issues when using other non-web applications like Microsoft Office, Calendar, Photoshop, et al.

  • Macbook retina display won't sleep

Anyone else have this problem ? I don't know if its a macbook retina issue or mountain lion issue, just want to see how common it is. The screen won't turn off even after I set power preferences to turn off when idle for 2 min. When I try to force it to sleep from apple drop down menu, the screen turns black and freezes.

my laptop goes to sleep at night... fan stops making noise..
    and I shut my laptop...
then I wake up and find my retina fan humming away and the computer is hot,
why is it running in it's sleep? when Im not using it??
i even have "put hard disk to sleep" after an hour...
    why is it not??

  • When will the MacBook Retina Display shell case come?

I am going on a trip and I need a protection case to keep my laptop safe. I recently bought a MacBook Pro with Retina Display and I have not heard anything from Apple about the cases. When will the cases be out in the U.S?

I went to the Apple Store today and talked to the manager.  He said he does not know, because the only indication of when is WHEN it arrives.  Could be tomorrow (unlikely).  Could be ten days.  I tend to believe him because he has been right in the past.  Just ask the store roughly when deliveries are made each day. Then call around that time.

  • InDesign appears pixelated on MacBook retina display

I have just installed InDesign CS6 ver8.0.1 on my new MacBook Pro. It appears all blurry and pixelated on the retina display. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

    No.
CS6 is not optimized for retina displays. You'll need to move to
    Creative Cloud for that.

  • Using Photoshop to create web graphics on a MacBook Retina Display

I have the new 2014 MacBook Pro with Retina Display and just downloaded the latest version of Photoshop. I've found that when creating graphics for the web (buttons, banners, etc), I have to zoom to 200% in order for the size of the graphic to be what will appear on the web. For example, a 600px wide banner appears to be 300px wide in Photoshop (even though it is, indeed, 600px when viewed on the web). I've learned that I have three options:
    1) design while squinting to see the very small object on the screen (not really a good choice),
    2) check the "Open in Low Resolution" box for Photoshop if I want my graphics to appear to be the right size when designing them in Photoshop, or
    3) continue zooming to 200% when working in Photoshop.
My question is: aside from the obvious annoyance factor, which of these options is the best choice for creating the highest quality graphics for the web? Are they both the same result... or am I hurting my graphics in some way by choosing one over the other?
    THANK YOU!

That statement indicates you have a bit of a misunderstanding about how things work.  It's not true, because you seem to be confusing the term "px" with a physical measurement. What you need to understand is that a pixel on a Retina display is far smaller than one on a non-retina display.
The key is this:  Images are upsampled by Safari when displayed.  Therefore, "viewed on the web", which you appear to think of as invariant,  is actually not the same from computer to computer.  Try this:  Put a 600 px image into a simple web page, then display it in Safari on your Retina system and screen-grab it.  Now measure the size of the image in pixels in the screen grab.  It will actually NOT be 600px as you have stated.
Why would Safari upsize a web image on a Retina-equipped system?  Because Apple realizes that if it displayed an image that's been prepared for a typical non-retina 100 ppi display, as most are, it would look tiny on the 200+ ppi Retina display, so it's zooming everything for you as a convenience.
I suggest taking some time to get your mind around how things actually work, and get to understand what a pixel really is, rather than making assumptions based on what you see.  Once you truly understand how images are actually being displayed, you'll be able to make the right decisions that work for you.
Keep in mind that Photoshop is giving you the use of each and every pixel in that beautiful 200+ ppi Retina display.  Safari is not, unless you program your HTML to take advantage of it.
The future of the web, in my opinion, is moving toward a model where images are actually provided at a higher-than-absolutely necessary resolution, and so high resolution displays will be able to make more of them, and people can easily use zooming to see even more detail as they want.
You might want to glance at this test page I created (and view the source to see how the HTML is coded):

  • CS4 Not working for New Macbook retina display?

So I finally upgraded to the  new MACBOOK PRO retina display I've been using CS4 since 2009 now since I transferred all of my files/data/etc into my new laptop for some odd reason I can't use my Photoshop it keeps saying
    FATAL ERROR
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
Anyone know why? Do I need to finally upgrade to the latest CS? Before you shout stupid...I'm not that professionally educated on the way these things work.

Photoshop and most other adobe products never work right after transferring instead of reinstalling using the adobe installers, because the install of photoshop is not a tidy application like most mac applications and strews things all over the operating system, not just in the applications folder and transferring it from from backup or whatever can't possibly transfer all the bits and pieces that make up the photoshop cs4 install.
If your lucky you can download and install photoshop cs4 from this link and hopefully will that repair any of the missing items.
    Download CS4 products
Otherwise, you'll have to run the adobe creative cloud cleaner, delete everything adobe on the hard drive and reinstall photoshop cs4
