MacBook stuck on opening White screen- help!

My MacBook recently froze while I was using it, so I shut it down by pressing down the power button. Ever since then, whenever I turn it on, it gets stuck on the opening White screen with the apple logo on. I ran a hardware test which said that there was nothing wrong with the hardware, and when I tried to run a disk utility test as advised by the manual, nothing would load on it. If anyone can advise me on what to try next or how to resolve this problem, I'd really appreciate it!

Are you saying the hard drive does not appear in Disk Utility?  If so then the hard drive has failed.  Otherwise do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Reinstall OS X.  This will not erase the hard drive.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray BEFORE doing the reset.

  • Macbook Air Freeze Booting White Screen Spinning Rainbow Circle - HELP

    Hi All,
To begin with this happened to a macbook air which has not been turn on for around a year. This is Macbook Air Mid 2011 version.
After plugging in to charger and power on, the boot up after the grey apple logo stuck on the white screen with spinning rainbow circle, like below:
I Did Option + Power on , and the result is like below screen:
After enabling the Wifi connection and choosing the Recovery HD, resulted back to white screen with spinning rainbow circle.
I wonder why there is no Macintosh HD partition like many have mentioned in other threads??
I Did another type of Booting and after enabling the Wifi connection, still resulted Apple Support 5005F like screen below:
I tried googling to find what is 5005F and how to fix that, but can not find anything related to 5005F.
Please kindly help me to Fix and bring back this Macbook Air back online and working.
Thank you Thank you Thank you...

If you have booted into single user mode and ran "FSCK", and it will not repair, then it sounds like your hard drive is gone.
You will likely need to replace the hard drive.

macbook was frozen, did a hard shut down, when powered up it is stuck on a white screen with a rotating dial

Sounds like the 'white screen of death'.
Try rebooting your phone. Take the battery out for a few minutes then re-insert battery and see what happens. It may take some time to reboot. There have been numerous "fixs" for this problem, but until RIM come up with a definitive answer to stop it happening, then really theres nothing we can do except try some things. The battery pull has been offered on a few forums and some say it worked for them. Worth trying again.
    You could always try THIS
but that seems a bit extreme, but may work if the reboot doest. Do you remove the battery whilst its still on? thats how you normally do a reboot. take batt out whilst powers on. Sorry if this doesnt help, but i know theres people all over the net that get this issue.

Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you are not using Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks then use the following procedure:

Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:

  • McBook Pro Mac OS X 10.7.4 stuck on the white screen on shut down.

I would appreciate help on this.
When choosing to shut down my MacBook Pro it closes everything and then gets stuck on the white screen. Unless I press continuously the on button it just stays there...
Any ideas what the problem might be?

Just wanted to add my own insight to this thread. I do have the same issue.
    - I'm using a Macbook Pro 2011
    - I'm using OSX Lion with full disk encryption (That's FileVault I think)
    - I'm using Paralles Desktop Build 7.0.15094
    - I'm using alot of different development USB peripherals (routed to a Windows 7 virtual machine)
    - The installation of the 10.7.4 might not have completed 100% ... it was also stuck ( can't remember if it was re-booting or if progress bar never reached 100% ) for several hours (I basically let computer do whatever it needed to do overnight, I figure it might have to re-encrypt a large (if not all ) part of the disk ) so the next morning I simply shut it off.

  • MacBook keeps going to white screen

My MacBook is stuck on a white screen and looks like it is trying to load, but won't do anything including power down? Anybody else have this issue and know what it is and what to do?

If you live near a Micro Center the Unibody Whitebook is a very good deal. It's 799.00 and I've heard that Apple will match that price if you mention it. So if you don't need Firewire or a backlit keyboard the MB is a good buy right now.

  • Boot stucked on a white screen & gray apple

    Hello,
I am using an Imac purchased in 2010, operrating a Maverick OSX system.
Since 2 days, my Imac does not boot and gets stucked on the white screen with a grey appel, and a small grey square sticked to the mouse cursor.
I tryied all tips & tricks suggested by several osx websites (after having disconnected peripherals), I mean:
    - reset nvram
    - start in safe mode, I checked the hard drive with the disck utility and corrected several permissions; but the reboot gets fixed at the same level
    - fsck
    - resinstallation of a time machine system backup
    - installation of a new version of osx
    Noone of those operation helped.
Thinking it was an hardware element which had an impact of the OSX operations, I tryied to boot on the my Windows 7 via Bootcamp, and the Windows OS worked properly on my Imac !
So I really don't know what to do next; do you have an idea ?
Thanks in advance for your help .
