MacBook suddenly shutdown after opening anything that something that got to do with Flash

Happened today,
I was rendering a video last night and I let my MacBook stay all night with brightness +0
So, I wake up this morning realizing that my MacBook was sleeping and the battery was on 0%
Okay, so here's my problem..
Ive plugged in my magsafe and recharge my MacBook as it should be.
Then when I opened something Flash, eg; Youtube, *The video gets laggy than couple of minutes later.. It shut down unexpectedly without any animation or stuffs just "pop" with black screen*. Okay then I let it cool down, opened it again and this time I'm not watching video on Youtube, so I thought it has been something wrong with Youtube so I avoided youtube. So I was surfing on facebook and played this one vid on facebook.. Then the *...* problem happened again. So I am guessing this out that is has to be done with the Flash Player or stuff that control the Flash thing. OR it has to be done with the fan or something.
Hope you guys can help!
Zofran.

I currently use iCloud on a MacBook Pro. I opened my iBook G4 that hasn't been used in years. I have many email messages that i would like to transfer to the MacBook Pro, but every password I use to access MobileMe is not accepted. Any suggestions on retrieving or transferring the emails?

MobileMe was discontinued around 2 years ago.  Anything on the MMe servers are long gone. The MMe passwords are uselsess because MMe is no more.
Unless you created an iCloud account back before MMe was taken off line you won't be able to recover any emails.

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. Depending on what install method you chose, any problems you had with 10.5 could be transferred the the new install. You may not have realized you even had any.
    Then Repair Permissions.

  • My MacBook Pro freezes after opening any application or trying to update

    HELP!
I haven't used my mac for a while and when I booted it up, I did all my usual things when I didn't use my mac for a long time, like opening software update. But software update froze after trying to download a firmware and iTunes update. I thought this was bad luck so I did a hard shut down and restarted the computer after 5 min. When I got back on I reran software update and the same thing happened. I did another hard restart and didn't run software update, but with every other application it froze as well!
I ran extended hardware tests that didn't come up with anything. I took my Mac to be serviced but they couldn't detect the problem. I reinstalled OSX from the disc and didn't work either.
When it freezes all animations are not stopped, like the progress bar animation. But the dock doesn't magnify when I hover over it, nor does the toolbar at the top work. It just does the spinning cursor when I move the mouse over the desktop.
Now I can't even open the settings and change something without it freezing, nor could I use it for more than 3 minutes.
    Help will be greatly appreciated!

  • Sudden shutdown after installing m-lion?

I browsed some of the threads that seem to be experiencing sudden shut downs but they were mostly older threads and I honestly didn't see a solution. Please point me to that if there is one posted.
I installed mountain lion roughly week-week and a half ago. As far as I know everything is up to date. My imac is older (2008) but I have never had this problem before. It has happened a couple of times now and it is very worrying. It just suddenly switches off, no warning, no closing files or programs, nothing. Just poof. It turns right back on though.
I saw somewhere a mention of RAM incompatibility?? Is that likely on a machine from 2008 that hasn't had this issue? Or is it now happening because of M-lion?
I am so frustrated with Apple. I was a poor student when I bought this thing. I couldn't afford applecare. Sure enough, 14 months after getting it I updated the firmware and blammo, the optical drive died. I used an external for a while and then a few months later the hard drive croaked. $500 later I still have an external CD drive.  When I bought it I did so for video editing and I ordered it with Final Cut... but no one said hey, that imac doesn't have enough RAM to handle anything of value. It cost me $200 to get it running fast enough to do the job I told Apple I wanted it for in the first place.
Now it is just shutting itself off?? Srsly?

    Hello,
Might be some incompatible hold over from an earlier OS.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.

  • MacBook-Random Shutdowns After Update

(Note: I posted that I had solved this problem by deleting an older version of Microsoft Office, but a day later the problem resurfaced)
    1st Indication of a Problem--
While using "Software Update" to upgrade from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9, the computer screen went black about 1/2 way through the "system optimization" part of the installation. I thought it had just gone to sleep since the white sleep indicator light was glowing on and off. However, I could not wake it from sleep and the only solution I found was to hold the power button down to fully stop the computer. Then, I powered on again to have the computer try to start up, and then go black during the gray screen. I repeated the process and each time it would get a little further into the startup process, but it would never finish loading.
    Troubleshooting Steps Taken-
After reading about the proper troubleshooting methods, I booted from the install disks and ran "disk utility" and repaired the disk permissions as recommended, and ran the "verify disk" part of disk utility. The permissions were corrected and the disk verification process indicated the disk was ok.
I restarted the computer and everything appeared to be fine until I opened MS Word. The screen went black again.
Concerned that maybe the update never fully loaded, I downloaded the combo intel updater and tried to reinstall it. The computer screen went black at the exact same point during the "system optimization" stage.
At this point, I decided to try to boot from the installation disk again and run disk utility. However, the computer now would not boot from CD, while holding down C. However, it would perform the Hardware Test by holding down D. So, I ran the hardware test and it indicated no problems.
After restarting computer, the same black screen crash occurred while trying to use various applications. Not all would cause the crash, some crashed it, some didn't. The error was not consistent. The same program that appeared to cause the crash one time would run fine the next. Other times I would let it sit without opening a program and it would crash after a random period of time. It is important to note the fans aren't even running when this occurs, nor does the processor seem to be running fast.
Since I could not boot from the installation CD, I decided to run disk utility while logged in normally. Again, no problems found with the disk and this time no permissions were corrected.
So, I continued the troubleshooting process:
    *I verified the S.M.A.R.T. status = verified.
*I checked the build number of the OS to ensure the update was complete (build = 8P2137)
*Checked the RAM in the hardware profile, both slots indicated OK
    *Turned off all non-system fonts
    *re-installed Java just in case
    *Downloaded Cocktail and ran:
    1)all cron tasks
    2)cleared the caches
    3)rebuilt launch services database
    4)updated locate and whatis databases
    *ran FSCK
    *reset the PRAM
*Reset the system Management Controller (SMC)
*tried to login in verbose mode- crashed
*tried to login to safe mode- crashed
None of this worked, so when I could get the computer to stay up and running for a few minutes, I decide to delete unnecessary programs including MS Office.
Immediately after deleting Office, I stopped having problems. I could now boot from the install cd, boot into safe mode, run without crashes so to speak. That was yesterday... Everything seemed fine so I re-ran some of the cleanup processes above to be sure that things were clean.
Today, I used the computer for over two hours without problems. Then instant crash out of nowhere. Same problems above reappeared. It took several cycles to get the computer to load. I opened iTunes to see if that might be the cause since I upgraded that yesterday after the problem ceased. Sure enough the computer crashed. So, I deleted all of itunes except my music library. Still random crashes occur.
I resorted to opening my RAM slots and resitting the RAM to be sure it was secure and it was fine, no change... still crashes.
    Two Important Notes:
1)I have never experienced the black screen of death before.
2)I updated the firmware shortly after I got the MacBook because I heard of the potential problems. So, the SMC is up-to-date.
At this point, I am going to schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar for Tuesday. However, I am sure they will merely jump to an "archive and install" which I can do myself if I have to or they will try to check the RAM which I already did.
Is there anything else I can possibly do to fix this myself before handing over my baby to them?

I mention this because you have done such a thorough job of troubleshooting and documenting your problem. According to the link below, the system optimization step in Apple's software installation has a bug that can delete arbitrary file(s) from your system.

  • 17" 2009 mid macbook pro shutdown after upgrade to OSX10.9

    Hi,
I have a 17" mid 2009 MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 5,2). I was running with Snow Leopard OSX10.6 with no problem. However, since Adobe and many software require later version OSX. I upgrade to OSX10.9 last week. Once I finish upgrade. I can't run my macbook with the higher performance setting (Nvidia 9600 graphic card) under battery power. It will shutdown immdeatly. Sent the machine to Apple Store. Same issue happen under OSX10.7 and 10.8. They ask me to replace the logic board. However, they can't not answer why this issue wasn't happening in OSX10.6.
I'm wondering if anyone else have the same issue?
Is this really a hardware fail?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
I have been working on solving a power issue on the same MacBook Pro model (mid-2009 17", 5,2).
The machine would not start when running from the battery, and would require 2 or 3 attemps before properly booting when running from AC power.
Since it is not my personal machine, the first thing we did was put the original HDD in an external USB case for its original owner.  After that, I installed a brand new copy of OS X 10.9.1 on a spare HDD I had lying around.  The original owner also claims that the machine would not boot anymore even while running on AC power, although I have not entirely been able to reproduce that issue (as stated, after 2-3 attemps the machine will boot and run for hours).
After a few tests (SMC reset, memory modules replacement, etc), I seem to have been able to make the machin crash systematically if I both :
    1. Run from battery and
    2. Use the (discrete) GeForce 9600 instead of the (integrated) GeForce 9400.
So it's basically the same problem as the one you're having !
Also OS X reports the battery as having about 670 power cycle on its belt, and as requiring service.
I am now wondering if there is an issue with some capacitance/condensator not properly soldered anymore, and not able to whitstand larger power requirement from the 9600 and/or from the boot process, while running from the battery.  I'm seriously considering a reflowing of the logics board solder, but it's quite a delicate process.  Also the report of simialr/identical issues on support forums, where customers have replaced either their battery or logics board but have seen no improvement, makes me dubious about this.  There's a very small PCB that basically handles the MagSafe power connector, and I'm wondering if a defect there might be the root cause fo these issues, so maybe I'll have a close look at this one before trying anything else.
Please, do keep me informed though this channle of you find anything worthwhile.
    Regards,
    Jeroem B.

  • Macbook sudden shutdown during startup.

I have an old macbook 2008 aluminum. It has mavericks installed and worked fine with it until now. It only starts up to the apple logo with the standard circular loading icon below and abruptly shuts down, same thing happens when booting to recovery. I have also tried booting into a usb mavericks installer which is what I used to install Mavericks cleanly but also my macbook also exhibited the same behavior, It shuts down suddenly a few seconds after the apple logo shows up. Inadvertently if i stay on the startup menu by pressing the option key and stayed there the macbook doesn't shut down abruptly. I have tried the so called "quick fixes" e.g reset smc etc. but none of them worked. Same thing happens when I try to boot into safe mode.

It sounds like you have tried all the altenatives I would have tried, and then some.  It is time to take it to an Apple store for a free diagnosis and estimate for repairs.  The good news is the data on the disk is probably OK so if your Mac is caput you can extract that drive and put it in an external enclosure.
