MacBook vs. MacBook with retina

I can't decide between The MacBook Pro or The MacBook Pro with retina display. I love the retina but I really would live to be able to use CDs on it. Is there anyway to get a CD user thing on The MacBook with retina?

You can purchase an external optical drive to use CDs/DVDs/even BluRays on your MBP (with or without retina).  Generally availabel for less than $100 USD for teh CD/DVD options, and not much over $100 USD for the BluRay  drives...

my new macbook with Retina display i have Problems
(Suddenly Stuck) stop working don't thing move even mouse even caps lock light in keyboard it not work it is totally Stuck till shutdown it from keyboard and restart

Hmm sounds like a saved application state issue and memory related.. I hate to ask are these graphic intensive apps. ?? games ??
Try these two things and restart if it still occurs then i recommend contacting AppleCare
disable the Resume and App Restore feature completely in Mac OS X 10.7.
Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”
    - Click on the Apple on the top left. Choose shutdown "Uncheck" Reopen windows when logging back in
**use your mac normally just like you were if the issue reoccurs then contact AppleCare..  Enjoy..

  • Does your Macbook with Retina make a small (very quiet) fuse-like sound during start-ups?

Dear fellow Macbook (preferable with retina users!) users!
Whenever I press the power button to start up my Macbook with Retina (Mid-2012), I hear this very faint fuse-like (cannot describe it any better, sorry!) coming from the top (I think the top-right) section of my keyboard. I can hear it every time I press the power button, it doesn't matter whether it is turned off or on sleep mode but I can always hear this weird fuse-like noise. I was wondering if anyone else hears this noise?
I don't think it is an software issue. Please some enlighten me?
    Thank you.

I have no idea what you men by " fuse-like  " sound. fuses  do not make a sound. Or do you mean a burning fuse like used in the old days for dynamite?

  • MacBook with retina display worth it?

I'll be a college student next year and am ecstatic that I am required to have a MacBook pro. My intended major of industrial design recommends that I have at least 500GB of storage and FireWire capability.
I really like the new MacBook with retina display because the screen displays text, photos, videos, etc. with an extremely noticeable (at least to me) definition, which I feel is perfect for art and design. I also like how it is thinner and a tiny bit lighter than the Non-retina MacBook pro, making it easier to to carry around Syracuse's large campus. My only concern is that if I go with The standard model of the Retina display, I'll be paying quite a hefty sum, and still won't have the hard drive size I need. I have no problem paying more to get what I need, but my urgent questions are as follows:
    1) Is the higher price ($2800) MacBook with Retina display worth it?
    2) Would I be able to upgrade anything (Hard Drive Size, RAM, battery life, etc.) after I purchase the MacBook by sending it to apple or some other retailer?
    3) Is it inconvenient to not have an optical drive?
    4) How is the battery life?
    5) Is it possible to have a retina display installed on a MacBook pro that does not originally have one?
    6) How easy is it to switch from a PC to a Mac?
If any or all (1, 2, and 3 most importantly) of these questions could be answered I would really appreciate it, I would also love to have any other advice on this topic.
    Thank You!

Buy one of the other MacBook Pros.

If you are worrying about cost: you cannot afford it. This so called Pro MacBook has only 1GB of VRAM when even an ugly DELL has 2GB using the same GPU. For some reason, proably due to heat it had to be downgraded to 1GB of VRAM which in the Mobile Workstation world is considered rock bottom and means you will be buying a GPU that is already date and underpowered.
    1) Is the higher price ($2800) MacBook with Retina display worth it?
It's really only useful if you have clients who are impressed you can afford it. Plasma Blue Ray is set at 1920X1080 and until HD is 4K no one will see what you see.
    2) Would I be able to upgrade anything (Hard Drive Size, RAM, battery life, etc.) after I purchase the MacBook by sending it to apple or some other retailer?
NO, maybe sometime in the future a thrid party will construct an SSD that is compatible but it will be very, very expensive.
    3) Is it inconvenient to not have an optical drive?
YES, you do not really need it these days and can easily use the external DVD drive.
    4) How is the battery life?
Considering it's ok but not as good as the other MBP.
    5) Is it possible to have a retina display installed on a MacBook pro that does not originally have one?
    NO
    6) How easy is it to switch from a PC to a Mac?
    EASY.

  • How do i clean the screen of my macbook with retina display?

how do i clean the screen of my macbook with retina display?

To clean the screen on your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, first shut down the computer and unplug the power adapter. Dampen the included cleaning cloth with just water and wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly onto the screen.
Important: The bottom case of the MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) and MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010) uses a soft nonslip material. Use a 3M Gray Microfiber or soft dye-free, lint-free cloth to clean the bottom case.

  • I have a macbook with retina display and when i use it, it gets hot on the bottom is this normal?

When i use my macbook it gets hot on the bottom is this normal?

If you're talking about the "new" MacBook with retina display, it's normal (Especially when you're playing games or watching a movie) and like Stark_Hu said, it will start displaying the temperature warnings, slow the processor, and try to regain normal temperatures. I actually had that happen to me while I was playing the Sims 4 while having 3 Pages documents and 5 or so Safari pages open.
Now if you're talking about the Retina MacBook Pro, I would clean out the fan ports and everything because that doesn't seem too normal!

I have a student Visa. I wanted to purchase the new macbook with retina display. Can i clam a VAT refund?

When I go to europe and head back to the states I can go to customs at their airport i.e france, italy or germany and get VAT refund for all the purchases I made. It does not work the other way around. purchase in the US heading back to europe as far as I know but you can ask US customs at the airport if they do such thing, just make sure you have copies of your receipts.

  • Problems with timeline for PE 11 on Macbook with Retina Display

When I use the expert timeline mode in PE 11 on Macbook with Retina Display, it zooms in excessively, to the point where I can't tell where I am.  It makes the timeline unusable.  I tried the fix that Adobe recommends, which involves replacing a HandlerTimelineFramework file.  This didn't work.  Any help would be much appreciated!

    aynteacher
This has been a continuing problem, sometimes even with the Adobe fix in the Adobe Tech Note.
I recall seeing a recent case of this that was finally resolved by Adobe. You may have to contact Adobe directly on this one.
But let me see if I can find the thread that "I think" that I recall.
Have you atempted to contact Adobe directly on this matter?
    To be continued....

  • Macbook with retina display + 500GB western digital hard drive

I have just bought my macbook pro with retina display and I have a Western Digital hard drive that doesnt show up when I plug it in. How can I make this work?

    Just an update:
I tried to boot by MacBook into safe mode with the external plugged into the USB port and could never get past the Apple Logo boot screen. I then detached and tried to boot up my MacBook regularly and still nothing.
So today i took my MacBook and WD External Hard Drive into the genius bar (they were super cool), turned out that my MacBook hard drive had dismounted itself so I had to wipe and reinstall (not a big deal, I had everything backed up).
Then they plugged the WD into different machines running 10.6.8, 10.7.1 and 10.7.3 and the External did the same thing with everyone of the machines, proving my intial theory wrong that it was my upgrade to 10.7.3 that caused this problem.
Didn't get a chance to try Paragon's NTFS driver and at this point I'm a little gun shy. The external is still under warranty so I'm going to see if WD will just swap it out for me. Anyways, thanks for the input.

  • Video quality on macbook with retina

I am curious what current owners think of the video quality on the MacBook Pro with Retina. How does it look compared with video quality on a non-Retina laptop? Curious about:
    1. Netflix quality
    2. YouTube and other websites
    3. iTunes downloads and other downloaded media.
I've heard some say that they need a higher bitrate to experience the same quality of video, subjectively. You'd be unlikely to find 1800p video from these sources (for maxing out the Retina resolution). I'd be concerned if blowing up lower-quality video (like 720p DVD quality) looks bad, because that's what you're most likely to view in 2012. Curious what your experience has been.

Maybe I should make my question clearer: I have read many reports of non-Retina apps looking worse on the rMBP screen, due to the pixel doubling+interpolation that the Retina does for these apps. My question is specifically whether this same issue could make video look worse on the rMBP than on a normal MBP laptop.
For example, does 720p video look blurrier on a rMBP screen than 720p video on a non-rMBP screen?
The issue is well known for apps, for example in Chrome until recently as shown here: http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/31/google-chrome-21-stable-release-adds-retina-m acbook-pro-support/.
My impression is this could also happen with video, and the problem is that "Retina-ready" video is not really available since it would have to be an extreme resolution.

  • Thunderbolt Display connected to a MacBook with retina will the display be retina as well?

Ditching my windows desktop and laptop.  Want to use a MacBook Pro w / retina for portability and a Thunderbolt Display.  Question, will the display be a retina view?

Thanks for the quick reply.  It made me dive deeper into resolutions and pixels.  Little did I know that distance from the screen had so much to do with the concept of retina imagining or that none of the retina displays are 100%.  Now I'm going for battery life since the with and without retina are so close in percentages.

  • Repetitive crash, macbook with Retina, 2012

I am having a repetitive crash which I "think" may be associated with a specific website. The website is just a local news site "expressandstar.co.uk". Of course, I cannot be positive that the website is the main culprit or it is triggering another issue... The most recent crash was peculiar as when the macbook restarted the apple logo turned a very light blue, not happened before...
I will avoid the website, for sure, however, this seem to be a problem that has surfaced within the last few weeks and I'd like to know why this has started occurring. Also, that it is not a symptom of something more serious. If anyone has any ideas/suggestions/experience... please let me know.

  • IPhoto is no longer free in my Macbook with retina display after I reinstall the system.

I cleared the disk of my Macbook and reinstall the sysem this morning. And I find there was no iLife apps in it. I used to have it when I bought it. Then I logged into the Mac app store and I find there is no iPhoto under the Purchased item. How can I be charged for the apps which I used to have?
Tell me how to deal with it. thanks.

Either the internal drive has failed, Likely, or the cable that goes from the drive to the logic board has failed.
Replace the drive and test. If you still have the problem then replace the cable.

  • Adobe Creative 6 is still pixelated even after I updated it on my Macbook with Retina display. HELP!

I just purchased the Macbook Retina display and installed my Adobe Creative 6. I mainly use Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat Pro. When I use these programs, it still appears pixelated even after I updated the software. I've attached screenshots.

Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 have had updates that add support for Retina Display (generically called HiDPI support). InDesign needs to be updated to a Cocoa interface on the Mac and 64 bit support on Mac and Windows which can't happen until the next version of InDesign. Acrobat 11 was released too early for HiDPI support to happen.
Your screen capture of of InDesign.
