Macintosh hd icon

Is there anyway I can change the icon of macintosh hd on the desktop??

Yes. Right click on it and select get info. Copy an Icon or Picture you want and then select the tiny little picture on the top left of the 'get info' window u just opened for the hard drive. After u have clicked on the tiny picture (selected it) press Command-V to paste it. Close 'get info window'.

  • How can I recover the Macintosh HD icon on my mac?

I heard that I was supposed to have the Macintosh HD icon on my desktop, however, it is not there and I tried to search for it with Finder and Spotlight and it is nowhere to be found. Does anyone know what happened exactly and how I can get it to show back on my desktop/computer.
    Thanks in advance!

    It is a Finder preference.

  • Why is the macintosh hd icon flashing?

    Hello all,
Weird thing started happening last night: the "Macintosh HD" icon on my Macbook Air started flashing on my desktop. It happens at exact 1 minute intervals - the icon will disappear for a quarter second then reappear.
I still have full functionality of my computer but am concerned that this is the precursor to something failing.
    Thanks!
    Doug

to remove the icon: Finder>  preferences> uncheck "show these items on the desktop", "hard disks".

  • Dragged my Macintosh HD Icon and now I cannot find it...

I have searched everywhere for the Macintosh HD Icon but nothing is coming up. I dragged it from the finder onto the desktop accidentally and then I could not find it. Please help me out!
    Thanks

    sgg88,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
So you want to have it back in your Finder, is that correct?
If so then go to the Finder's Preferences and click General Tab. Next select the first box, Hard Disks. Then go to your desktop and drag the drive back onto your Finder side bar.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Changing "Macintosh HD" icon (?)

I used to have my Macintosh HD icon customized like the rest of the icons one morning but after a restart it went back to its original state and since then I can't figure out how to change it. The only way I know how to change an icon is by selecting it, clicking Apple + "i" and copying a different icon to the icon in its info. This no longer works.
    Does anyone have any solutions?

Open up Disk Utility. Applications folder -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.
Click on the HD in the left column. Go to the First Aid Tab. In bottom left click Repair Permissions.

  • Macintosh HD icon changed

Hi,  really hope somebody can help me here because i have been searching the web for the last three hours without any luck and its starting to drive me mad!  So heres the problem, Today whilst working on my imac i noticed that my Macintosh HD icon had changed and is now much smaller with the letter V under it! also it no longer shows up on the left hand side of the finder window. Im not sure if this caused it, but today i installed two 3rd party programs that can only be intalled on snow leopard or higher and i am only on leopard! Anyhow,im a bit worried now because i dont no if this is a major issue and i have caused damage to my computer and i have no idea how to short it out! So any help will be much appreciated.. Many Thanks

Open disk utility and capture a screen shot (command-shift-4) of the left drive pane.  You may have renamed your drive by accident.  Here is an example.

  • Macintosh HD icon changed to Time Machine Icon!

    Hi,
The icon for my main iMac Macintosh HD drive changed to a Time Machine Backups icon for no apparent reason. How can I switch this back to be the original/standard Macintosh HD icon? I presumably have to copy and paste the icon, but where can I locate the original on my iMac's hard drive?

I also was having this problem and the cut/paste on the Get Info pane was not returning the HD icon to it's original glory. Here's what did work: turn OFF Time Machine, then restart your computer. Your HD icon should return to the original gray icon version. You can then turn TM back on and have the icon remain intact, but the next time you turn off or reboot your machine the icon will return to the green version if you do not turn off TM first. A weird little bug that hopefully gets cured permanently in 5.2 or 5.3.

  • Macintosh HD icon/prompt when booting - Why that?

I have updated to 10.4.7 a few days. My mbp has run fine until today, when i have turned on my MBP and i was prompted the Macintosh HD icon, with a small arrow underneath.
Clicking on either (icon / arrow) would not result in anything, but pressing enter MBP would start booting as normal.
It never did so before, so I am wondering whether I should be worried about it.
    Any idea?
    thanks a lot, as usual..

    Hi Fede,
Check in System Preferences>Start up Disk that the
Mac OS X 10.4.7 icon is selected.

That was it, thank you very much!!!

  • Macintosh HD icon gone, did 10.5.2 correct this problem?

So i have been involved in this particular discussion for a while, I believe its the invisibles issue ("v" to "V") that has made my Macintosh HD icon on my desktop disappear. Did 10.5.2 correct this??

Afraid that thread was locked before I figured out an answer to the problem in Leopard involving the Spotlight issue, so I was unable to add my findings. So far the answer has worked for everyone who has tried it, and I have amended my article on invisiblity with the new information:
    http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/invisible.html
Scroll down to the section on the problem in Leopard. You'll need to clear the Spotlight comment and also run the "xattr" command given.
The root cause of the problem appears to still be unknown. Since the bug has been around since Tiger I doubt there will be a solution any time soon. At least the Leopard only version of the bug is reproducible, so maybe that will give the engineers the ability to finally track down the source.

  • My Macintosh HD Icon has disappeared in the Finder window

I cannot find my Macintosh HD Icon. When I do a search in spotlight, it locates it in the computer Icon folder but when I go to that folder, it isn't there. Does anyone have the same problem?

Sounds like you have the invisible problem. Go to the thread roam mentions and scroll down past the real technical post of using the Terminal to fix it, you'll see a later post about using an Applescript to fix the problem. This may be easier for you to do. You'll want the script for fixing the drive problem, I also added a later post with a fix for invisible folders.

  • My Mac HD doesn't start up, I get the reinstall prompt and do not see a macintosh HD icon while starting up using option key

My Mac HD doesn't start up, I get the reinstall prompt and do not see a macintosh HD icon while starting up using option key.
When start up I land into the Mac OSX Installer. Has my LION crashed or the HD is not responding?

Try booting while holding down the Option key but make sure there aren't any disks in the optical drive first.
    I just found this:
Select a startup disk *(on some computers)*
Option (To open the optical drive when choosing a startup disk, press ⌘-period.)

    Mike,
I had a similar issue with Photoshop when I upgraded to both Snow Leopard and Lion.  it turned out to be Rosetta is no longer present in the newer OS.  Once I upgraded to Lion, Appleworks stopped working after all these years.

  • How do I restore my missing Macintosh HD icon in finder after Lion upgrade?

After I updated to Lion my Macintosh HD icon disappeard from the Devices section of finder. I don't have the icon on my desktop and used that to access the root drive. How do I get that back under Devices in finder?

When I go to Finder/Preferences/Sidebar/Devices, I still do not have a Macintosh HD icon on the desk top.  I have icons for Snow Leopard 1, Lion 2 and Network. At first I thouight that the Macintosh HD icon was hidden llike the  ~/Library.
