Macs can let virus enter in a Windows network?

We have 5 Mac in a Windows network. The IT states that the Mac (which are connected to the internet too) can let enter viruses and trojan horses and infect the windows network.
Is it true?

I agree. Your mac is no more or less susceptable to or likely to be a carrier of a virus than the windows or *nix boxes on the same network. Your Mac has or should have the exact same potential to be infected or to spread in fection that the other machines do.
The only way this policy makes sense is if youre machine isnt being "managed" by IT. meaning youre not behind the same firewall and youre not adhearing to the same security policies (not to be confused with policy objects in a windows domain but rather the rules IT lays down on users and computers). If you arent adhearing to these policies i agree with them. If you are then they are just being lazy/cheap and refusing to learn a system thats foreign to them or hire a consultant to do it for them.

One way of doing this is to use either a ring or enum where the strings
presented to the user are "1", "10", or whatever you like. On the
diagram, the values will be 0, 1, 2, in a compact counting sequence.
Then do an array index into a constant. If this is done more than one
place, make the control a typedef so you can keep them consistent an
    d
make the index be done in a subVI. Then whenever you need this, you
drop the control and the subVI, out comes the integer, float, or
whatever it is you want to index.

  • Safari Mac can't access web site that Windows can

None of my Macs can access the site http://cards.123greetings.com . I get Can't Find Server messages in both Safari and Firefox. (Clearing caches doesn't help)
cards.123greetings.com is part of a large free card site that did a major upgrade in October. It still renders correctly on a PC running Windows XP Home which runs on the same network as the Macs, so it's not an isp problem.
Since both Macs (G4 iBook running 10.3, MacBook running 10.4) have the same Can't Find Server problem with both Safari and Firefox, it appears that some setting in the Macs themselves is causing this.
Any help or insight would really be appreciated - Thanks!

A big Thank You to Mulder for letting me know that you can access the site (with Mac Safari I presume) - That's good news.
The bad news: I still can't access the site.
The problem affects two separate computers and four browers. Taking your advice, I repaired permissions and logged in as a new account on both machines. Unfortunately that didn't work.
I next tried accessing the site on the MacBook through Parallels running Windows XP Home. The site came up fine using Internet Explorer.
Then I realized that Parallels operates with a different ip address. So I went back on the Mac using a proxy, and the site came right up.
It now seems that the ip addresses of both computers are being blocked at some level. I want to thank Mulder for replying and virtually ruling out that it might be a Safari issue. I'm now "off topic" and will no longer post in this section. But I'm also over my head... If anyone has advice about how to proceed now, I'd truly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

  • Can't print .pdf files on windows network printer

    Hi,
I cannot print .pdf files on Canon IRC printer with UFR II 2.23 or 2.24 drivers connected through a windows network by LDP protocol, either with Apple Preview or Acrobat Reader - looks like the software doesn't find the printer (I have the rainbow whell and the software does not answer). It can last for hours, there is no other solution than forcing the soft to quit and finding another way to print. I have updated Canon drivers from 2.23 to 2.24 (all supposed to work with Lion) and that does not fix the problem.
This problem does not happen with Ms Word or Safari (or, more generally, other types of files) and it worked fine with Snow Leo even with pdf!! I also have windows XP with Parallels and guess what? I can print through Parallels with Acrobat Reader (for windows XP) on the same printer on which I cannot print with my Mac with Lion and Preview or Acrobat Reader for Mac!
    Please help !!
    Alexis

    Correction
It works with Acrobat but the printer does not like queues of documents...
The site privided me with the topics I fas looking for about this : it's a Canon drivers and Lion permissions problem.

  • Wireless Internet works but Macs can't see each other on same network.

    First: Ahh!
Second: I have an iMac & and MacBook connected to the same Wifi connection at home. I'm using the Belkin F5D8235-4 v2000 with Firmware 2.01.08. The most up to date firmware and Mac compatible. Both have IP addresses within this range 192.168.2.random number. Both have "File Sharing", "Remote Login" and "Remote Management" check off. Both always see the Belkin n+ under shared items (the Belkin +n has a memory stick attached to it). Here's the kicker...when I restart for a few minutes I can see both computers under Network and Shared. Then poof, it's gone. As I write this my MacBook can see my iMac but my iMac is Stevey Wonder, not a thing in sight.
Why won't my iMac and Macbook play nice? Are iMac's rasist? Not implying Stevey Wonder is rasist. Wow, back call on my part.
Ohh, one more thing (feels good to use that line in a Mac forum). I have installed Windows 7 on both computers, it problem also happens in windows too. I'll bring that to another forum, just thought you should know.
If you need more details or want to know what kind of sandwich I'm making just write below. It's ham. Help me please.
Third: Ahh! This is the best sandwich ever.

  • Additional question: Can you share files on a Windows Network?

Is it possible to share your files on an iPad across my Windows network?

Like other's have mentioned, Dropbox will let you download files to your Dropbox account on your computer (just go to dropbox.com to download to your computer for free) and then from the Dropbox app (free in the App Store), you can access them.  Works fine for me.  They give you a free box with limited storage.  If you want more storage, you can of course buy more........

  • Why can I suddenly not access my Windows network?

I can no longer access the drives on my Windows network. I still have internet access and can print to the networked printer, but I can't see the drives on my Windows machines. When I click on "networks" and then "servers" in Finder, I get nothing but my Mac hard drive. I no longer get the "mshome" that used to show up. What happened??

Before, were you able to access your Windows hard
    drives via your Mac?
Yes. And as of today, I can once again. I'm not sure what happened, but overnight the network drives seem to have reappeared. Thanks anyway for the reply. Guess I should have given it a little more time!

  • Can no longer find Printer on Windows network

I had a connection to the HP LaserJet 4050 at work and accidentally deleted it. We have a Windows network. I remember using the Windows Printing option before, but the printer no longer shows up when I select Network Neighborhood. The only thing that shows up is workgroup. Here is what I remember doing before:
    - Bring up Print & Fax in System Preferences
    - Click + to add a printer
    - Select Default Browser
    - Click More Printers
    - Select Windows Printing from the top pop-up menu
    - Change Workgroup to Network Neighborhood in the pop-up
Someone else has tried this with his Mac here at work, and the above steps worked. He has a Mac Book Pro 17". I am running a Powerbook G4 15". If it matters, I set up the printer on my system back when I was running Panther; this is the first time I have tried adding the printer while I've had Tiger.
The only thing I have gotten to work is the hint on MacOSXHints (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051204134420783). While this did work, I do not want to have my network password in my printer preferences (or wherever they are kept).
    Powerbook G4 (1.67GHz)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Yes, this could have happened after any number of updates, since I'm almost positive that I added the printer under Panther. This first came to light with OS X 10.4.6. I do not know when I first saved the printer, but I know it was prior to Tiger. Actually, now that I think about it, it may have been a different computer, too. Where my older computer was Panther and my new computer is Tiger. I do not remember exactly how I dragged over my user folder from the backup. I may have updated it to Tiger before copying it over to the new system. Of course, if the printer does not come over with my user prefs, then I must have set it up under Tiger.
I cannot say for sure if the IP address of the printer has changed or not. However, connecting it to the other Mac worked. At the time, we both had 10.4.6, although his is Intel and mine is PowerPC.
The name of the printer has not changed nor the location. The name consists of two letters and underscore and two more letters (e.g. ab_cd).
I have tried having a connection to the server where the printer is located and trying to add the printer while it is connected. I was hoping that, with a connection, the software might be able to find the server.

  • Two Macs can't see each other on same network

We have an iMac and a Mac Book Pro on the same apple network at home. The iMac can see and connect to the Pro and exchange files but the Pro can't see the iMac in Go > Network. All sharing settings are the same. Any thoughts welcomed.

How many machines are on your network? If you have over 7, then here should be an entry called "All..." in Shared in the Sidebar. Click on that. It will show you all the servers that are available on your network. You can also get to this list via Computer (Command-Shift-C) and click on Network.
Shared in the sidebar shows a max of 7 servers, with Back To My Mac's at the top (if any), then servers you have mounted share points on (if any), then the top 7 (in alphabetical order) servers in Network (a.k.a. "All...").
    Hope that helps.

  • If I uninstall on my mac, can I get it on my windows PC?

    Hello,
My Mac is having issues so I had to buy a new computert. I bought the Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium Mac in February. The software I bought had an option for a mac or windows download, and I chose Mac. I was wondering if I could, as long as I uninstal the suite on my Mac, if I could instal it on my Windows. I'd hate to have to buy the software all over again.
    The e-mail said: "
Suite products must be used on one computer. The individual applications of the suite cannot be installed on separate computers.
So I assume as long as I uninstal it should be fine? But I want to make sure before I do anything because I need these programs for school, I at least need the backup on my mac despite the issues.

The Mac version will not work on a PC. You can swap languages/platforms for a product you own if you follow the instructions at the following link:

  • Mac can't display some images from Windows .doc files.

I've opened .doc files written in Windows Word in Pages 2009, Mac Word 2008 and Mac Word 2011 and they all fail to show some of the images within these documents. When I open these files in Windows Word, they show up just fine. Why aren't the Macs showing them properly?

Try downloading OpenOffice or LibreOffice and opening them in one of those. They do a better job of importing Word documents than Pages. Once you've got them open, you can save them as RTF and load them into Pages. Pages is nicer to work with, but OO/LO (basically the same application) has better features.

  • If I upload Premier files to cloud from mac, can I open them on a Windows based platform?

I used a friends mac to initiated a adobe premier pro project on a mac drive. I then saved the project. I uploaded the saved project to my Cloud. On my Windows based laptop, I signed into my Cloud account, downloaded the same project. I opened my Pr app, and could not see the project, though the parent file is openable and searchable. Have I not used the full ability of cloud, meaning have I incorrectly synched something? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!
