Magic Mouse beyond bizarre behaviour Snow Leopard imac

I have a peculiar problem with my Magic Mouse. I have an imac which is about 18 months old .The O.S. is Snow Leopard 6.2. No problems until 2 or 3 months ago when the cursor started to vanish and would only reappear when I hung it over the Safari browser.. ?.
I attempted the fixes that seemed closest to the problem from the discussions pages and gave up - none worked. I bought the latest Magic Mouse a week ago. Same problem. It's almost certainly, 'operator error', but it seems that it's a glitch no one else has encountered. I would appreciate any thoughts on this.
Thank you

The ball is dirty, they have a history of accumulating dirt and grime on them so that's my best guess. When I used one what worked well was rolling the ball very very vigorously on a white sheet of paper on a hard flat surface. Do this for about 60 seconds then see if that took care of it.
NOTE: My error I misread and thought you wrote Mighty Mouse. Please disregard.

  • FaceTime fails to connect snow leopard imac

The setup is a home network with ethernet to an up-to-date snow leopard iMac and the WiFi on the same subnet, running off of a Linksys wft54g with the latest firmware. uPnP is enabled on the router.
From a Macbook Air with Lion on a network at work, I can call and receive FaceTime calls to the iPhone on the home WiFi network.
However, FaceTime rings but fails to connect on the iMac.
So, Facetime to/from iPhone is going through the same home router over the same network using the same DNS, etc.. and it works.
But Facetime to/from the iMac does not. I've tried with the firewall on/off on the iMac as well as google DNS, etc., with no luck.
If the Lion MBA is on the same network, all works fine.
Any ideas? What is different about Facetime btw iPhone and snow leopard iMac that causes this difference?
    Much appreciated.

    HI. I have a macbook air 1.3 ghz intel core i5 / 4gb 1600 mhz ddr3, and i use OS X mav 10.9.4.
Today i tryed to conect facetime either to another same macbook air or iphone 5 and i cant see my camera image.
Facetime opens and i can get audio but no image at all.
Preferences are not available on menu. if i click, it goes gray (notjing shows up) then its impossible to see it.
I have tryed reinstaling os x and also reset smc and nothing worked so far.
I open photo both and image not showing also. open skype and camera preview not showing.
Could it be a problem with my camera? if so, why cant i log in my facetime preferences??
    Tks

I backed up 6000+ photos from Snow Leopard iMac v.10.6.7 to new Western Digital "My book" successfully, I think! But when I attempted to COPY my photos to it in order to free up space on my HD, I made a mistake. When I dragged the iPhoto (11) Library to My Book and re-named it to "iPhoto Library.old" nothing happened. So I dragged it again, re-named it again (same name--that was the mistake, I guess!) and then it took about an hour+ to do its thing. When finished and I launched iPhoto by holding down the Option key, the dialog window listed two libraries: "iPhoto Library.old" and iPhoto Library.old (default)". So now what? It seems that I still have the originals when I open iPhoto, and do I have two copies, also? Should I delete one of them and if so, which one and how? Or should I eliminate both of them and start over again? And if so, how do I do that? Right now, neither my HD nor the My Book have changed the number of GB available or free since before I began this process. Will the numbers only change after I actually delete my original Library AND empty the Trash? I appreciate any light you can throw on this subject for me. I could lug it all to the local Genius Bar, but now I'm afraid to unplug anything for fear I'll lose everything! Thank you, you wonderful, bright people. (An 83-year-old Grandma, trying to keep up a little, at least)

Oh my! Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. But I do know that my goal was to do both---backup AND free some space. My iMAc is old (2006) and I upgraded it a year or so ago to Snow Leopard. I didn't think I had the capability of backing up without an external drive, but  maybe I do since I upgraded. Do I?
But I bought this My Book mostly for freeing space because I like to make cards in Photoshop and I'm forever running out of space when I get too many layers (don't really know what I'm doing there, either).
Is there some way that I can rectify my mistakes and start all over?
Thank you so much for  beng so prompt with your reply and patient with mine. I tried for so long to see the dialog box with the library listings. When I launched iPhoto, even with holding down the Option key, it kept immediately launching into the full screen. Finally, after an hour of doing it over and over again, it worked when I held the key down for 5 minutes. Then when I was typing my reply, I kept getting a message to "Request Time Out." Didn't know how to do that, so kept hitting the OK button and kept typing for another half minute. Finally, when ready to send, Safari couldn't do it. "Try again" exasperated me until I realized I would have to begin again and use Firefox. When I got there and ready to type, I got the message  that my message had been retrienved and did I want to use it?!!
So your kindness is very much appreciated.

  • How do i set up a new lion imac from a snow leopard imac using time machine?

How do i set up a new lion imac from a snow leopard imac using time machine?

Connect the two via Firewire cable - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the old iMac into Target Disk Mode. Boot the new iMac normally.
If you are starting the new iMac for the first time then do the above before you turn on the new iMac. After you turn on the new iMac you will begin in the Setup Assistant. When you complete the registration screens you will be offered an opportunity to migrate your data from another Mac. Follow the instructions to migrate your old Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and system preferences to the new iMac.
If you have already gone through the Setup Assistant and created an initial admin user account, then you do the connection step but will use Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder of the new iMac.

  • Safari Performance affecting performance of my Snow Leopard iMac

Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I have noticed Safari being noticeably slower and displaying all kinds of odd symptoms such as Top Sites takes a long time to display, Top Sites icons and icons on Cover flow not displaying, Top sites icons displayed as hash (junk). When Safari goes into this state I am not able to switch to other apps running. Icons on my Dock will not highlight when I run the mouse over them. Basically my iMac seems to have hung. After a long moment (maybe 30 seconds) I will get control back. Snow Leopard has not crashed thus far.
I have noticed also that the performance of Safari affects other applications e.g. I was trying to compile a small test program under Xcode. It took a very long time for something that usually takes a few seconds. I terminated Safari and everything went back to normal again.
This problem did not occur when I had Safari 4 running on 10.5.8. My problems started once I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I have tried all the suggestions on cleaning cache, resetting Safari, deleting various .plist files etc. I've also repaired permissions. Nothing works!
It seems its strictly a problem with Safari and SL. Any other suggestions apart from the usual list of suspects?
Anyone tried reinstalling all of SL (from scratch) to solve these kind of problems? Something left over from 10.5 which should not be there that's confusing Safari and SL?
    Thanks in advance.

    HI,
Please update your profile by clicking My Settings on the right side of this page to reflect the SL upgrade. Thanks!

Perhaps there is an underlying issue going on. Boot from the SL disk and run Disk Utility to check for errors on the startup disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
And check out Mac OS X - Maintenance

  • How can I import contacts from Snow Leopard iMac to my Mavericks MBP without replacing all of the contacts.

*** Updated - FIgured this out right after I posted... I simply selected all contacts on the iMac, exported as a .vcf then dragged that into the MBP contacts ***
    Problem solved...
    *Original Question*
I have a MacBook Pro (MBP) running Mavericks... syncs contacts via iCloud with my iOS devices.  My iMac is an original intel model from 2006 which can only run Snow Leopard.  I have many contacts on that iMac that I would like to copy into the contacts on my MBP.
I used the 'Address Book Archive' feature on my iMac - transferred that to a flash drive then tried to import into the MBP contacts at which point it said it would replace the contents on my MBP... something I do NOT want to do.
Does anyone have a way of bringing all of my iMac contacts in to the MBP without replacing?
I appreciate any help...  Thank you !

Using HP Printer Utility does not recognize any print drivers I have installed in the past two days.

Sorry but your post says that you downloaded HP drivers from Apple, not HP.  Be careful with the information you provide if you want an accurate answer.

  • How do I run OS X Leopard on a OS X Snow Leopard iMac?

    My issue goes as follows:
I recently purchased a used drum scanner and the software controlling it (ColorQuartet) runs up until OS X 10.5.8 only.
I use an iMac that shippied with OS X 10.6.8 (see system details below). Now, is there any possible - and advisable - way that I can run Leopard on my Snow Leopard machine?
I have partitioned my drive and made a 20GB OS X leopard partition. When I tried to install it (from a DVD), the installer ran until reboot (for install)... then nothing happened and I had to reboot again with option key pressed and chose to boot from HD rather than DVD... Since then, my startup has been slower - it dwells with a blank screen for 20 secs before the apple logo shows up. Apart from that, no noticable harm has occured to the system.
I do know, that it is not recommended to run a previous version of the OS than what shipped with the system. Is there any workaround here, that does not involve investing in another Mac for the household (there is already three, and no, none of them runs Leopard).
Thanks in advance for any input.

    How quaint!
Now, is there any possible - and advisable - way that I can run Leopard on my Snow Leopard machine?
    No.
the reason ColorQuartet does not work with newer version of OS X is presumably because of changes in Quicktime.
Then it may still work if you use Quicktime 7 instead of 10. If it can't even use QT 7 then get rid of it.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
A Mac OS X v10.6, OS X Lion, and OS X Mountain Lion-compatible version of QuickTime Player 7 is available for use with older media or with AppleScript-based workflows. QuickTime Player 7 can be used to playback formats such as QTVR, interactive QuickTime Movies, and MIDI files. Also, it supports QuickTime 7 Pro registration codes for access to QuickTime Pro functionality.

  • Adobe Photoshop 3...Snow Leopard, iMac

When I installed Snow Leopard on my iMac today, all my Adobe products disappeared -- InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, Reader, the entire suite. I have my box and serial numbers, but can't find my install disk. What do you suggest?
Thank you for helping. I'm hoping there is a download or easy way to reinstall the product.

I can say that 10.6.4 has worked out the kinks for my white 24" iMac with 7300GT card. From what others have posted here, it appears the x1600 issues have been resolved as well. I was running 10.6.2 prior to this update and advising everyone else of same. Of course, 10.6.2 and SL was not perfect, with some issues cropping up here and there. IMHO the 10.6.4 release is equivalent to the 10.5.3 release by comparison. In fact, I upgraded my Mac mini after my good experiences with 10.6.4 on my iMac. Not sure if this helps or not.
