Magic Mouse disconnect wakes up my Mac

There seems to be a bug in 10.6.7 related to the fact that after my Mac goes to sleep. After a little while it'd wake up and display a "Connection Lost" message related to my Magic Mouse. Has anyone else noticed that? I have disabled the option of allowing this bluetooth device to wake up the mac and I'll see how that goes.

After becoming annoyed with the disconnecting magic mice after the upgrade to 10.6.7 - I tried the following and it seems to have corrected the problem.  In my scenario I had two magic mice - one for the iMac and a second magic mouse shared between a MacBook Pro and a fairly new MacBook Air.  Both mice had the same device name - which was never a problem prior to 10.6.7 - and both worked correctly - provided that I was careful to ensure that the shared mouse was not allowed to connect to the MacBook Air when it was being used on the MacBook Pro - and vice-versa.
1)  I shut off both mice.
2)  Opened Blue Tooth Preferences on all 3 Macs and deleted the existing mouse pairing for the mouse on each machine (iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro).
3)  Turned on the mouse on the iMac - and paired it to the iMac - and allowed it to receive it default name.
4) Clicked the gear and renamed the magic mouse to "My iMac Mouse" - so that it had a unique name.
5)  Turned on the mouse on the MacBook Pro - and repaired it the MacBook Pro.  Clicked on the gear in bluetooth preferences and renamed to mouse to "My MacBook Mouse".
6)  Did not pair either of the mice to the MacBook Air (I assume this had nothing to do with the issue at hand and will pair the MacBook Pro magic mouse to the MacBook Air later.
Since repairing the mice - I have not experienced the disconnect/reconnect - to the best of my knowledge - and I was receiving it previously on all 3 Macs several times a day.
I suspect it is the deleting and repairing of each Magic Mouse that appears to have solved the problem.  I don't believe that providing a unique name for each mouse had anything to do with fixing the problem.  I will post back if I encounter the problem again.

  • Magic Mouse Bluetooth connection problems with Mac OS X Lion

I've a problem with my Magic Mouse on  bluetooth since I've updated my Mac to Lion, it's disconnecting too often. How to fix it ?

It might be a physical battery connection problem. The solution was already described by this article:http://macs.about.com/od/tipstricks/qt/Fix-Magic-Mouse-Disconnects.htm
Placing a trimmed piece on paper that was cut from a business card between the batteries and the battery-enclosure lid helps hold the batteries down firmly. This eliminates the tiny freeplay that allows a physical battery terminal disconnect when the mouse is jolted.

As of this morning I am not able to scroll using Magic Mouse in MS Word for Mac 2011 (V14.4.5) on a MacAir with Yosemite (V10.10). It seems to be isolated to MS Word. Any thoughts?

Have tried suggestions from here and elsewhere but scrolling not working for me (in Word only!) on magic mouse or trackpad.

  • Magic Mouse Disconnects and Trackpad Unusable

When the battery gets low on the mouse I turn it off, replace them but it doesn't reconnect.
I use the MacBook Pro in clamshell mode with the LED Apple screen, so I open it up to use the trackpad... then I go into the Bluetooth settings and it says the magic mouse is connected... I try disconnecting it, or even removing it but all I get is a beach ball... some lag and nothing changes.
Then the greatest thing of all happens... the trackpad stops working too.
Now I am stuck with just a keyboard... might as well go back to DOS.
You don't know how frustrating this is... especially because I love Apple... all I can do is force a shutdown... with all my data lost.
I really can't use a mac as my working machine if this continues. I was even considering getting an iMac too but if the bluetooth stops working there too, I don't have a trackpad.
Anyone can shine a light on this issue?

I have this same problem for my 07 iMac. It just started this summer (2014). Nothing I do will reconnect the mouse except rebooting and then it connects right up. When this happens the mouse will connect to my Macbook no problem, but just will not reconnect to my iMac unless I reboot.

  • Magic Mouse disconnecting on Windows 7

So I bought the Magic Mouse a couple of days ago for my Dell Inspiron running Windows 7 64bit and I'm experiencing some problems.
Now I know that officially the mouse only works with Macs, but I loved it so much that I just decided to buy it already and see if I can somehow make it work. Looking back, I realize it was somewhat foolish on my part. But still, it's here and it's paid for.
Anyway, it paired just fine with my BT dongle (with a 0000 key), Windows automatically installed some drivers, and I installed one found on the internet.
Basically, it works as any normal mouse would, vertical scrolling and right|left click, with none of those 'special' features. I don't care about that tho, what bothers me is that it keeps freezing, or disconnecting, not sure what the right term is, every now and then. It just stops moving the cursor. I tried to time it, but once it disconnected after 20 min and the next after 5. I've been trying to make it work all day and it disconnected many, many times. Sometimes, it comes back after manually turning it off and then on again, other times, it takes up to 30 min.
I tried a number of things, updating the Bluetooth drivers, Windows tells me they are all up to date, restarting and switching off the PC, moving the dongle around, deleting and then pairing the mouse again. I even checked the power options, there was nothing related to the mouse there.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I am in the exact same situation after foolishly purchasing the mouse, and have installed the drivers to allow the basic functionality to work with Windows 7. Just as in your case the mouse freezes every once and a while, usually after it has not been used for at least 30 seconds or so. I have tried all the same steps and have not yet been able to fix the issue.
Are there others out there, that are also experiencing this and are there any ideas what can be done to fix it?

  • Magic mouse disconnecting for a few seconds, pretty often

Wireless, changed the batteries so its not that.. getting annoying
    Help please?

There are many posts about this.  First thing I suggest is a smc and pram reset.
    Also look at this discussion:
Magic Mouse keeps disconnecting from bluetooth
    particularly around page 6.
Basically you may need to insert a small piece of aluminum foil into the battery compartment to keep them from moving around (or possibly a piece of paper to wedge them in).
You don't say what kind of mac you have.  If it is a mac pro you might want to look over this discussion:
Poor Bluetooth reception and jerky mouse
Finally google search "magic mouse loses connection".  Your problem is not unque.

  • Magic Charger  Mobee for Magic Mouse doesn't work with Mac OS X lion Mountain

The Magic Charger  Mobee for Magic Mouse  Apple

makes connections overflows and stops the system work.
What could I do, other that disconnect Magic Charger?

When you say you cannot add the printer, with the Add Printer pane open, is the 6250 visible in the Default Add Printer view? If no then it could be the USB cable at fault and I suggest you try another cable.
If the printer is visible but the Mac fails to locate a driver when you select it then you may have to trash the contents of the BJPrinters folder (HD > Library > Printers > Canon) and then run the iX6250 driver installer again.

  • Apple Magic Mouse Disconnecting

My Magic Mouse, that i brought for my Mac Mini, every 30 secs or so it disconnects, then about 1 min later it will reconnect again? that this is ongoing every 30 secs providing that im using it. If i leave it alone it will stay connected no problem, but the moment i touch it, it disconnects.
Anyone any ideas or do i just fire it out the window!!!

I have a 15" MBP Retina display from 2012, Lion 10.7.5, running lid closed with bluetooth mouse and keyboard.  My desk configuration has not changed but in the last couple of weeks I get both devices disconnecting simultaneously, once or twice per day.  The dashed bar disappears from the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar.
I turn bluetooth off and on (lift the lid, using keypad), and then it all works again.  I don't need to even touch the mouse or keyboard they instantly reconnect.  It is not the magic mouse battery problem, I've suffered through that and have it licked, and that would only take out the mouse.  There's nothing obvious in the system logs.  No change I know of in nearby electrical appliances or WiFi configuration.

  • Magic Mouse disconnecting frequently

    Hi All,
I am getting seriously frustrated for the last couple of weeks. My Magic Mouse is disconnecting very frequently and this is becoming annoying. I checked everything, batteries, etc...everything is fine. and still facing the same issue again...
    This is really boring.
    thanks,
    Paul

    Hey Paul,
I'm getting the same issue, and if you look around on the web, it seems to be a pretty widespread thing particularly when it is connected to the Mac Pros. I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro, and I have never had a connection issue on my MacBook. However, I can't say the same with my Mac Pro.
Are you using a Mac Pro with the magic mouse?
I've read there are ways to fix it by mixing up the airport cables with the bluetooth cables, though that was on older mac pros (mine is 2010) and on mine I can't find where it is located.
Currently, I am talking with apple for help and see if they can work it out. Had me do a basic reset of everything.

  • Magic Mouse Disconnecting When Closing MacBook Pro Using External Display

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro. I am trying to use it in sleep mode with an Apple wireless keyboard and a Magic Mouse. Everything appears to be connected fine. When I close the lid on my MacBook, I click my mouse and the external display comes on for a few seconds, then it cuts out and doesn't come back. I have the Bluetooth device can wake the computer up from sleep checked. When I have the MacBook open, the external display works fine. I only lose the external display a few seconds after I close the lid on my MacBook Pro.
I have made the Magic Mouse and keyboard favorites and it didn't help.
Does anyone have any idea? I am running 10.6.8.
    Thanks

GaryKing, can you review how you reset the .plist files for both the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse?
I had nothing but good things to say about the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, until I hooked up my 22' Samsung display to my MBP. Power shouldn't be an issue because it's being plugged into the outlet and the external monitor isn't taking power from the MBP. However, my keyboard will keep popping up with the notice "Connection Lost" every 5 or so minutes. Even now, I'm already on the next paragraph but the letters are slowly coming up one by one - it's not registering as fast.
The mouse experienced the same issue if I'm downloading a lot of files, it will lag behind to the point where I'll drag the mouse to where I want it to be, then a few seconds later it'll pop up where it should, that's how bad the lag is. I thought perhaps restarting the computer will do, but no, and also everything is up-to-date so there are no updates to worry about.
GaryKing, if you can go over how you reset the .plist files, that would be much appreciated. By the way, it's past a week since your post, how have the Bluetooth devices been working? Did the reset solve the lag issue permanently, or was is just a temporary fix?

  • Magic Mouse Disconnecting After every computer close

Every time I close my laptop screen, even without restarting or shutting down the computer, the Magic Mouse is no longer working when I open up the laptop screen again. It wasn't doing this until I replaced the batteries when the batteries that were packaged with ran out of battery life. I have to turn the little button on and off and then go to Mouse and have it reconnect each time. I even changed it to a favorite, and that didn't help. What is going on?

My problem was quite different, but perhaps this will help you under different conditions and its worth a try, nonetheless.
I found that cleaning the battery contacts of both the magic mouse and the batteries themselves has eliminated my disconnect problems. I used a pencil eraser and rubbed the contacts with the eraser, then blew the crumbs out with canned air. Before doing this, I rubbed the pencil eraser on paper to get fresh, clean rubber.

  • Magic mouse disconnecting

I bought my magic mouse a few months ago and it was working great until about 2 weeks ago, it now decides to disconnect at random times, and the green light won't come on underneath the mouse meaning i have to turn my computer on and off several times to go through the stages to find it. also i am using brand new duracell batteries and there is nothing in the way between my mouse and imac.
    thanks

I've had my mighty mouse for about a year now and since I'm using an old G4, it seems to turn itself off everytime I start the machine. I check the Bluetooth thingy on the menu bar and it 'tells' me that bluetooth is powered off and now there is no way to turn it on. System preferences is no help since it's turned off and the on button is greyed out. The only way to get my mouse back was with the Bluetooth Setup Assistant which allowed me to turn bluetooth on. Unfortunately, when I did the last system software that I can do on this machine, the setup assistant was not in the utilities folder. Thankfully, someone was able to tell me where it now hides, system; library; coreservices. I copied it to the utilities folder and got my mouse back. Now I just have to remember to keep my wired 'original' mouse (no buttons) plugged in so that I can access the utilities folder when I need to. Or, I can simply never turn the machine off or restart.

  • Is possible to pair magic mouse to one and only Mac?

Question is in the title. I have two MBP and mac mini which i want to be permanently connected with magic mouse, problem is when mac mini is sleeping and somebody works with one of the MBPs it allways take connection of magic mouse, then i have problems after starting Mac mini and it do not want to connect to mice, thank fora any advice

Yes, Go to System Preferences > Bluetooth > on the machines you want to remove it from (MBP).
Highlight the mouse in the list to the left and click the "-"  icon below the list to unpair it.
The mouse will only connect to machines that it has been paired with and appear in the list above.

  • Magic mouse disconnecting while I'm using it.

My magic mouse which I purchased less that a month age at a cost of $75.00 CD is constantly disconnecting while I'm using it. This disconnect will last for about 10-15 seconds but it will happen over and over again. Also, if I'm away from the computer for a short amount of time, I have to re-start it because the mouse is disconnected…everything just dies. This never happened with my old mouse..I only had to tap it and everything would start up again. I would get a refund on it but I lost the receipt - so I'm stuck.
Is there a solution to this nuisance problem???

Hi..I finally got a message saying that the batteries were low - so I replaced them. I bought the mouse less than a month ago and they were the original batteries but still, that's a bit soon for the batteries to run out.  Is it preferable to actually turn  the mouse OFF by turning off the green light on the back of the mouse, or does that happen automatically when you are not using the computer even though it's still on?
My computer is on most of the day even though I may not be actually using it. I don't want to have to replace batteries once a month. Also, the ones I have now are the rechargeable batteries…guess that ok.
    Thanks for your reply!
