Magic Mouse + External Bluetooth

I really want to like the Magic Mouse...
1/ I could not get it to behave the way I wanted with Apples Drivers...
so I downloaded the drivers provided by the guys behind 'steermouse' - this
greatly improved my options
2/ I now noticed that the mouse would intermittently jitter and slow down...
I opted for an external Bluetooth Dongle (Belkin) - Now the mouse does not jitter or slow down
3/ I shutdown my Mac last night and on booting this morning the mouse is not found and does not connect. Seemed it wasn't even paired. I have seen re-paired the mouse and restarted the Mac (It seemed to then find the mouse again)
When it works it's great... but all of these issues are starting to make me wish
I'd never picked one up...
Anyone have any recommendations/improvements to the solutions that I listed above... any way to stop the mouse un-pairing?

Your post says that you're running 10.4.10. Magic Mouse is only supported on 10.5.8 or above.

I have this same issue, but opposite.  My audio in my bluetooth headphones sounds great, but when they are connected my bluetooth mouse (microsoft 5000) is all over the place.
What's the deal.  I didn't know my $2000 mac would be so inferior to my $800 pc in this regards   (otherwise very happy with switch to mac)

  • Magic Mouse and Bluetooth

I just bought the new Magic Mouse as a gift for a friend and after watching him use it I'd like to get one for myself. Problem is my Mac Pro isn't installed with Bluetooth. Does anyone know: can I just buy a USB Bluetooth adapter and plug it into the Mac Pro or do I need a serious upgrade/install? And if a simple adapter is enough, is there a recommended brand?
I'm open to all sorts of suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Alan

The only adaptor I ever tried was the D-Link. I opted fro the internal bluetooth module for my Mac pro. Its not a serious upgrade. its rather easy. You can find instructions on the internet. Just make sure you purchase the proper one. It will work so much better.

  • Magic Mouse, Trackpad, Bluetooth not working after Mountain Lion install

Is anyone else having the same issue after installing ML? I first noticed that my Magic Mouse didn't scroll as usual when I opened Safari.  When I went to preferences, it only gave me tracking & double-click speed options- no scrolling options.  I check the Accessibility preferences, but that didn't seem to help either.  When I tried my Trackpad to check the preferences, it said that one wasn't connected, even though that's exactly what I used to open it in the first place.  Now when I look at the top right hand corner for Bluetooth connectivity- it says Bluetooth- not available in a grayed out font. When I check out the About My Mac and check the Hardware->Bluetooth section it says 'No information found'.
I've tried the SMC/PRAM reset, unclicked "Disable automatic login" option in Security & Privacy preference page.  Shut down my iMac and turned off the keyboard, mouce, and trackpad and restarted them after restarting the iMac.
Now I can seem to find anything else to try.
Does anyone have anything else to try?

    Hi There,
I am having the same issues - is there a fix for it yet?

  • How can I increase the range of my magic mouse via bluetooth...

I would like to be able use my bluetooth devices (keyboard and magic mouse) from my 2011 imac running mavericks from an upstairs location to a downtstairs location with a tv and an apple tv usig mirroring options...  The set up works if they are all a little closer together...  If i get the two locations set up  the way I want them - the mouse and keyboard keep losing connections and the mouse is very jumpy...  Is there an amplifier or something else I can do to strengthen the signal?
Thank you very much in advance for your help

The maximum range of Bluetooth devices is about 30 feet (10 meters). If any exists, I would not trust something that boosted the signal further than I could throw it.
The range, I think, is an FCC rule.

  • Connecting a Magic Mouse using Bluetooth

Can anyone help. I seem to be experiencing periodic disconnections between my magic mouse and my MacBook Pro 13" mid 2010 running OSX 10.7.2. After selecting "Connect" a couple of times, it seems to resolve the problem only to re-occur a couple of hours later. Many thanks.

  • Bluetooth problem with OSX Yosemite: Magic Mouse and Keyboard

    Hello everyone,
I've a problem on my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 13" (late 2013).
I've always used it plugged with an external monitor (I love double screen), magic mouse and bluetooth keyboard. On Mavericks everything was perfect with this setup.
Yesterday I installed OSX Yosemite and I've found a boring problem: my Magic Mouse and my Bluetooth Keyboard have a 0.5 second of latency, lag. This happen when the Macbook is not plugged with battery charger. When he is on charge, the problem don't exist.
I noticed this bug also on the public beta of this summer and submit the feedback.
I hoped that they fixed this before release but the bug is still here.
How can i solve this boring problem?

I also reported this issue again and again during each beta release.
This makes the MacBook basically unusable in battery power for doing any kind of design and coding work.
I don't have any bluetooth addons or third party utilities. I also tried clearing PRAMs, and reinstalling Yosemite, to no avail.
Here are some threads about the issue, which, I'm noticing, is common.

Note that while the issue is kind of tolerable using the mouse, it's tragic with the keyboard.
Does this prevent you from using OS X Yosemite?
The issue makes it very difficult for me to use OS X Yosemite

  • Horrible Bluetooth Keyboard Battery Life - Since Magic Mouse?

I'm having a weird issue that is driving me nuts. I've noticed that over the past couple weeks I've had to replace the batteries in my Apple bluetooth keyboard several times because it is draining at a rate of about 18-20% a day, even when I'm not at home using it or using it much at all. I have the first version of the mini keyboard, the one that takes three batteries. I used to get great battery life and only had to replace them maybe once every few months so something is definitely wrong. The only thing that I can think of that has changed is that I went from the bluetooth Mighty Mouse to the Magic Mouse. As a result I had to install the update that came out to support it and then shortly after, 10.6.2.
I have tried all the typical stuff like removing both the keyboard and mouse from Bluetooth setup, doing fresh pairings, etc. Nothing has helped. At this point I've deleted the Magic Mouse and gone back to the Mighty Mouse to see if that makes a difference, but I already hate it and greatly prefer the Magic Mouse. I'm hoping that someone here has seen or had this issue before and can point me in another direction that helps.
    Thanks!

Perhaps inquire directly of Apple Care. Gizmodo's review (http://gizmodo.com/5386202/apple-magic-mouse-review ) relays a claim about the Magic Mouse battery life saying, "it's powered by two AA batteries, which get up to four months of use per charge, according to Apple."
Engadget's preview (link follows) included the same reference, the related headline read, "Apple's Magic Mouse: one button, multitouch gestures, Bluetooth, four-month battery life."
    http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/20/apples-magic-mouse-multitouch-gestures-blueto oth-four-month/
Finding support for Gizmodo's reference ("according to Apple") and Engadget's headline may be a little more difficult. Perhaps I haven't read the press release carefully enough. Clip below, from that Apple press release:
"Apple Introduces Magic Mouse," press release, 20 Oct 2009, Apple.com (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2009/10/20magicmouse.html : accessed 24 Nov 2009), in part, "Magic Mouse uses Bluetooth wireless capabilities to create a clean, cable-free desk top and its secure wireless connection works from up to 10 meters away. To extend battery performance, Magic Mouse includes an advanced power management system that works with Mac OS® X to automatically switch to low power modes during periods of inactivity. The wireless Magic Mouse is powered by two AA batteries which are included."
    Hope this helps.

  • Lion - bluetooth for keyboard and magic mouse not working anymore

    Hi all,
I installed LION on my macbook pro yesterday. Today my macbook stopped recognizing my magic mouse via bluetooth - after rebooting the machine it also didn't recognize the bluetooth keyboard anymore.
When I try to pair the devices with my machine under system preferences it keeps finding them, but cannot pair any longer.
Did anybody else experience this problem - and solved it?
    Cheers,
    Gregor

I have the same problem, and so far no solution.  After Lion install, MacBook Pro 17" (mid'09) will not re-pair with my Apple bluetooth keboard.  First of all, it should not need re-pairing at all -- but it does.  Next, keyboard is recognized by Bluetooth Setup Assistant, but the the result is always "pairing attempt unsuccessful."  I am using new batteries, and the keyboard is two feet away from the MBP.  UGH.

  • Magic Mouse Bluetooth connection problems with Mac OS X Lion

I've a problem with my Magic Mouse on  bluetooth since I've updated my Mac to Lion, it's disconnecting too often. How to fix it ?

It might be a physical battery connection problem. The solution was already described by this article:http://macs.about.com/od/tipstricks/qt/Fix-Magic-Mouse-Disconnects.htm
Placing a trimmed piece on paper that was cut from a business card between the batteries and the battery-enclosure lid helps hold the batteries down firmly. This eliminates the tiny freeplay that allows a physical battery terminal disconnect when the mouse is jolted.

  • Ultimate solution to Magic Mouse connection issue?

I have found that many users of Magic Mouse are experiencing frequent connection dropouts. I am another user who has been having trouble with this but unable to find a permanent solution.
I know that whenever this happens, usually by switching off the bluetooth on the computer and switching it back on would make it work again, but sometimes when this problem gets intensified, within a minute after I switch back on the bluetooth and reconnect the mouse,  the mouse would appear laggy again (and disconnect too at times).
I would like to know if there is a permanent solution to this problem.

I would add the Magic Mouse to bluetooth favorites. I use Snow Leopard but I think the process is the same for Leopard.
Go to System Preferences > Bluetooth > Highlight the Mouse on the left > click the gear icon below the list > check "show more information" if not already checked. > return to the gear icon and select "add to favorites".
That should help with a speedy reconnect.

    Regards

There's already a thread on this with almost the same title:
    Magic Mouse Loses Connection
One idea (discussed in that thread) is that not all batteries are created equal in that the positive terminal varies in size among different brands and "flatter" ones are not making contact all the time.  One solution was to add a little ball of aluminum foil between the negative size (I assume) to take up the "slack".
