Mail account is grayed out in settings
My current exchange account is grayed out in settings making it impossible to add another account or delete the current one. In addition, the current account often reports that an email did not download or that a message cannot be moved to trash. With the account grayed I am finding it difficult to change anything.
Make sure that Settings > General > Restrictions > Accounts is not set to Don't Allow Changes

Sync Mail Account checkbox grayed out
When connecting my brand new iPhone 3GS, the mail account sync option in iTunes 9.1 cannot be selected (the checkbox is greyed out - the rest of sync options works). This happens on different macbooks, and it seems not to depend on the specific sim provider. Is it a common issue?
Make sure that Settings > General > Restrictions > Accounts is not set to Don't Allow Changes

The "always allow" button is grayed out in settings regarding cookies, and I can not find where to change the setting. (Restrictions are not on.) Do you know where I go to change the setting to allow me to "always allow" cookies?
Hi lisaarnett111,
If you are having issues turning on Always Allow for cookies in Safari on your iPad, you may want to check to make sure that you don't have Private Browsing enabled, as noted in the following article:
Turn Private Browsing on or off on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

My camera and safari disappeared. I also have a passcode that I must enter and I can't remove it. These areas are grayed-out in settings as well.apple support said probably a software problem. But I didn't want to pay the $70 so I'll try this support
For forgotton passcode

For missing icons, these must be somewhere in some folder. if you can't find
Use Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout. -
Unable to activate touch id on new 5s.Could not do it the Verizon store this morning and sales person suggested I do it later. Fingerprint is grayed out in settings. Any advice?
You have to have a passcode enabled first. I was having trouble with this as well but I figured it out. I think it's because you will need the passcode to modify the fingerprint settings. Y'know, for security.

I am trying to sync my Ipad 2 to my Itunes account on my laptop. It will only sync my purchased music. All of my personal CD music that is on the account is grayed out with a red circle at the end. Please help.
Did you select all of the music to sync by clicking on the playlists or albums or whatever you use in iTunes - in order for them to sync? Or did you click on Entire Music Library if you want all of your music on the iPad?

My e-mail account is sending out spam mails; how can i delete the virus?
My e.mail account is sending out spam mails; I have got a spam virus probably during download of my e.mails over the i phone. How can i detect and delete the virus?
You do not have a virus on your Mac or iPhone.
An AOL account is accessed as an IMAP account with the Mail app or email client on your Mac, and with the iPhone's Mail app. The sent spam messages being available in the account's Sent mailbox means your AOL account has been compromised.
Change the password for your AOL email account. -

iPad mail account says problem with 'ssl settings' - can you help me?
The 4Gs hardware, only 256 MB of RAM, prohibits updating beyond 6.1.6.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists. -
I am trying to set up a Mail account for a second user. I have made the user account but when I try to set up Mail, it fails as if the password or e-mail is incorrect but I know it is correct. When I try to go to Mail preferences, it is grayed out. Any suggestions?
1. If you haven't tried this already, just delete the user account entirely, and then try setting it up again.
2. To find the permissions file:
a. hold down the option key
b. go to the Go menu in the finder
c. scroll down to Library and open it
d. in Library, go to Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences
e. drag it to the trash and restart.
3. if that doesn't work, go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. In the Keychain Access menu, do Keychain First Aid, and repair.
This should keep you busy for a while. -
Mail on OSX 10.7.5 has incoming mail server field grayed out
Trying to configure my iCloud email using Mail in OSX10.7.5 and in the settings the field for incoming mail is grayed out, yet every time I try to save to exit that window, it gives me an error message that it needs an incoming mail server. Can't enter it because I can't get into the field, which is showing po2-imap.mail.me.com Any thoughts on how to remedy?
I tried this and it entered the same info that was there and the incoming mail server field is still grayed out and I still get the "The incoming mail server cannot be empty" message when I go to exit the iCloud account window.

TS3276 Incoming mail server is grayed out?!
Can not receive mail. Mail always askers for my password. Can not change anything in my account as the incoming mail server is grated out. Any advise is appreciated.
JosefAre you using OS X 10.5.7 or 10.7.5? If you're using 10.7.5 (Lion), it's grayed out because it's automatically configured. If you aren't getting mail, try going to Settings>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.

"search entire message" button in mail is sometimes grayed out
Hi, Recently I've noticed that sometimes when I do a search in mail the button to search entire message is grayed out and unclickable. This started happening in the last few days. Just a minute ago I tried to do a search and the button was gray, then I went to Safari and logged into Apple support, went back to mail and typed a new search, and all of sudden the button is clickable again. Any ideas? Running 10.6.7 on a 15" Macbook Pro. Thanks...
Ernie,
I collected the info you require - see below. Along the way I deduced that the problem may be a corrupted Spotlight index. As you'll see below attempting to remove Library or Mail from the index failed. I am currently rebuilding the entire volume index...
Repair permissions - log shows no fixes. Search still fails...
POP-<email> varies from 14.7MB down to 120kb.
Typically the root level of POP-<email> is
Deleted Messages.mbox
Sent Messages.mbox
Drafts.mbox
INBOX.mbox
Junk.mbox
Some account also have "MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2"
The root level of INBOX.mbox is typically:
Info.plist [not always]
Messages
POP-steve%[email protected]
has top level
Deleted Messages.mbox
Drafts.mbox
INBOX.mbox
Junk.mbox
MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded
MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2
Sent Messages.mbox
with INBOX.mbox top level of
content_index
Info.plist
mbox
mbox.SKindex
mbox.SKindex.isValid
Messages
tableofcontents
I deleted the out of date indexes, etc.
Spotlight prefs, Privacy, add ~/Library/Mail
"Privacy List Error
The item couldn't be added or removed because of an unknown error."
Same Mail operation worked on MBP -- also on MBP Library folder.
Try MacPro Library - same error.
Delete entire MacPro index. More to follow on whether this is the fix... -
I saw the other post of the same issue, which was closed and marked as resolved, but I could not find the answer within it.
My "To Do" button is greyed-out in mail. It was there, but after performing some mac updates it is gone. I can post a new to do via no means.
Please help my AR self.I have the same problem and I wondered how one makes sure that the mail account has a CalDAV calendar. I had tried all the ways I could think of to create a todo from mail 1 From message window tool bar while is a yellow tick it is grayed out, 2 From file New ToDo also grayed out, and 3 selecting the text and right clicking also grayed out . Only have one IMAP account . Interestingly MobileMe will not allow me to upgrade my calendar.
Thanks

HT201269 e-mail account section greyed out and unable to access
E-mail account greyed out and unable to access or open?
Check Settings > General > Restrictions and make sure you have Accounts set to allow changes.
Also, if that doesn't work, close out the Settings App and the Mail App, then reset the device. Hold down both the Home and Sleep/Wake Buttons for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears. -
HT4864 incoming mail server is grayed-out
How do I get my "incoming mail server' un-grayed? It won't let me put information on that line.
Thank you.The p10 number is one of those added by the system and appears to represent different geographical areas - it's quite normal.
If you are having problems with the setup you should sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and sign back in again, emabling Mail in the checklist. This should set it up correctly. It's not designed to let you do this manually in the Mail application.
