Mail app question

well obviously i just got the new upgrade, but the question is how do you delete a mail account you already have on the ipod touch?
i tried manually putting one in and then later on synched it with my Mac, so now I have two of the same account (one that works and the other one doesn't). I don't see a delete button for individual accounts anywhere.
thanks

LOL - no way.
It's all new, so we have to start over.

So...I'm trying to use my mac as much as possible. I'm trying to find out how to sync my lotus notes email with mail.app on my mac. Does anyone know how to do this? Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • Question about Mail app and domain name please help

    Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question so figured this would be the best area. I have a website which uses bluehost as it's web hoster. My email is set up through them, such as [email protected]
In my Mail app, I have the POP thing set up so when ever someone emails me it goes right to the Mail app. It works great for my personal computer, but when I go to work and go on other computers is where the problem is.
When I am on a random computer at work, I have to sign onto my webhosting site and then use squirrel mail. It is quite a hastle and is not the best. I would love to use gmail, but still keep my domain name I have.
One co-worker mentioned just forwarding all my [email protected] emails to my new gmail email. There are issue's with doing this because if I'm at work and email someone with gmail it will use that email address. Also, I want to be able to read all my sent messages from any computer including the sent messages that were within my Mail app. Is this possible?
Besides forwarding is there a better solution? It is sort of hard to explain. Basically I want my [email protected] address to be run through gmail, be able to access on any computer, have it be the only address in my mail app, and most importantly have the sent messages from mail app to be able to be read on all computers.
I think gmail lets you make a domain name email, without gmail being included at the end. But I already have the email address made...am I able to just swap it? And keep all my mail inbox info?
What's the best sollution for my problem?
    Thanks

You would need to login to your web mail account to reply so that the email came from "[email protected]"
I try to get a gmail address that is close to the domain name like - [email protected] - so that I don't have to bother opening web mail as it is a pain.
I forward to Gmail and then Mac Mail because their spam blocker is the best.
A lot of web mail addresses bounce mail because the capacity is limited and the owners don't go into their control panel to launch their web mail and clear out the old stuff. Lawyers, in particular, are famous for this. For this reason I don't set web mail to keep a copy of the forwarded mail. If my web mail gets full of spam and they start bouncing then its not my problem!

  • New mail.app and folders/trash question

Hello, yes I know it's new to a lot of us but maybe someone knows....
I've synched my mail accounts thru iTunes to my iPod Touch.
Receiving and sending mails works fine.
I've found that folders are created by the mail.app as soon they are needed (like Inbox, Trash, etc).
My question is if someone found a way to create a folder manually...?
Also: How can I empty trash without deleting every single mail one by one?
    Maybe I've only overseen it...
    TIA, Uli

    Yes, same here.
    Double deleting!
For one account I have set up a spam filter at the provider side which works quite well.
For a second account, where it doesn't seem to be possible I decided to switch off the account on the Touch (Mail settings) and read mails for that account only at home (where the Junk filter of mail works). In case I travel I might switch it on again and fight thru the spam.
    But seriously:
There need to be a button to empty trash in one go!
Also the option to create folders!
(And maybe synching of Notes too...)
I'll tell Apple thru feedback. Hopefully others too!

    I'm using an iMac G4 running 10.3.9.
There are two users_both admin-users. On my side
all is fine and dandy; on the other users side not
    so good.
In the last 3 days her side is asking for the pw
to access the mail via keychain every one min_the time in her pref to check for new mail.
I have done the 2 or 3 things suggested I could find_
deleting the keychain for her pop mail server; deleteing

Try changing the automatic check for new mail from every one minute to every 5 minutes.
If there are a number of messages to download and/or the communication with the account's incoming mail server is not closed for whatever reason before the next automatic check for new mail, the Mail.app will request the password for the account instead of providing a proper error message indicating there was a problem communicating with the incoming mail server.

  • Mail.app with gmail setup question

    hello,
i have a large gmail account i have been using with mail.app for a long time and all works normally. however the "gmail style" is getting a bit out of control for me with the duplicates in sent/all mail. my processing is simple, after reading an email i archive it (so my inbox is always clean) so it means i move it to all mail. but since sent messages are also in all mail i'm pretty sure mail.app is storing these messages twice and whenever you search for messages you always have to filter through the duplicates. I think there are some newer ways to sync mail.app with gmail and i just wanted to ask what's the best solution to this common issue?
    thank you,
    rick

thanks for the reply. yes that is what i do sorry if i wasn't clear enough. actually the messages coming in are not duplicated since once i move them to All Mail there is only one copy there in All Mail. it's the sent messages since they are saved once in Sent and once in All Mail. does that make sense and how do other deal with this?
    thanks again,
    rick

  • IMAP question - message showing up in iOS but not in Mail.app - why?

I set up an account in Mail.app Version 5.2 (1257). It's an IMAP account linked to a Gmail account.
Just now I saw a (1) indicator that a new mail had arrived. But when I clicked on the account's Inbox there were no messages there.
I also checked on my iPhone, which also uses IMAP for the same Gmail account, and I can see the message and read it.
I went back to Mail.app but it's still not there. So I manually selected Mailbox > Get New Mail > account name. After doing this the (1) indicator went away and there is still no mail in the Inbox.
But the message is still there when looking via both my iPhone and iPad.
I also tried closing and opening a new View Window, but it didn't help.
Finally I quit Mail and restarted it and could see the message.
But what gives? Why couldn't I see the message in Mail.app on my iMac without restarting Mail?
    Thanks,
    doug

I'm not sure there is a setting for that. I don't see one anywhere.
But remember - the reason I knew there was a waiting message to begin with was because the dock indicator displayed a number and next to the account's Inbox was a (1) in parentheses. So it must have checked for mail. The message just wasn't there until I quit Mail and started again.
Anyway, thanks. I'll just see if this happens again. Maybe it was a one time rare bug.
    Thanks,
    doug

  • Two questions about the mail app!

    1.  Where is the mail app community?  I search the communities for "mail" and "email" and nothing came up.  Is Apple serious?
    2.  How do I get the mail app to show the TIME an email was received, instead of just the date?  My mail app has previously shown the timestamp that an email was sent to me, but now it only shows the day, like "Today".  I'd like to know what time an email arrived without having to click on it.
    Thanks for your help!

Navigate to the OS>Discussions>Refine this list. The Mail sub-forum will show up there.
    Try Mailbox>Rebuild
Also, close Mail first, then move this file in your Home folder Library/Preferences to the Desktop.
com.apple.mail.plist  (You will have to restore your Mail settings.) If it doesn't help, just move it back.

  • Will any mail apps open to the inbox by default?

I have been using computers for decades...and have had my iPhone for a few years now. It was only a few days ago that I got my first iPad and was surprised by the "feature" that all of the mail apps seem offer...
I am talking about opening the app to the last email you were looking at. I tried a few different apps and they all seem to offer the same thing.
Why does it seem to be an iPad thing to make you go to your inbox instead of having it be the first thing you see?
Can anyone direct me to an app for the iPad that when I open it, I will see my inbox?
Maybe it's just me but I don't want the contents of an email being displayed on my screen until I choose...who knows who will be looking over my shoulder when the app is opened.
Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.
    Scott

This answer does not help me at all.
It does not address my initial question...not even a little bit.
Me mentioning someone looking over my shoulder was just an example.
The point is, I want an app that opens by default directly to the inbox.
If you have anything useful to contribute, please do.

  • How do I add my Hotmail account to my Mail app on my MacBook Pro so that it synchronize automatically ?

Hi guys, I'm new to Mac. I know that you can add email accounts likeHotmail into your Mail app so that you can view, edit, modify, create and delete your emails and folders, etc. The questions I have are (1) can I see all the emails I have not just in the inbox but all the other folders as well just like if I was logging on to Hotmail via Internet Explorer ? (2) what happens if I read some emails, delete or move some emails, create new emails and send or save in draft, create or delete folders, etc in the Mail app on my MacBook Pro, will this synchronize and reflect the same on my Hotmail account if I was to logging via Internet Explorer ? How about the other way ? If so, how do I set it up on my MacBook Pro to do this automatically ?
I know that this doesn't work with Hotmail accounts on my iPhone 4 via the Mail app. Everytime I read an email or delete an email on my Mail app, it does not synchronize or reflect the same on my live Hotmail account when I logging via Internet Explorer.
Any help, guidance or advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: never mind, I was using the wrong password

  • Multiple instances of Mail.app must be possible

I've seen many questions regarding the possibility of running multiple instances of Mail.app as separate processes. There seems to be much good reason to be able to do so, i.e. separating work and private mail, and very little bad reason to do so (maybe some problems when doing upgrades or backups, but I'm not yet sure of this). It also seems that it should not be so hard to do.
So far, using some web acquired wisdom, I've done the following:
    1. Duplicate mail.app:
    sudo ditto Mail.app WorkMail.app
    2. Rename the executable:
    mv /Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail /Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/MacOS/WorkMail
    3. Use Property List Editor to set the following values in/Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/Info.plist (Apple-S to Save changes!):
    Root/CFBundleExecutable=WorkMail
    Root/CFBundleIdentifier=com.apple.workmail
    Root/CFBundleName=WorkMail
    Root/NSServices/0/NSPortName=WorkMail
    Root/NSServices/1/NSPortName=WorkMail
    Root/NSServices/2/NSPortName=WorkMail
    Root/UTExportedTypeDeclarations/0/UTTypeIdentifier=com.apple.workmail.emlx
    Root/UTExportedTypeDeclarations/1/UTTypeIdentifier=com.apple.workmail.emlx.part
    4. Create the following directories:
    mkdir ~/Library/WorkMail Downloads
    mkdir ~/Library/WorkMail
    4. Launch the 'new' application 'WorkMail'.
    5. Create mail accounts using the application's 'wizard'.
Here is where the first problem is encountered. The new account directories and files are still created at ~/Library/Mail. Navigating to Mail->Preferences->Accounts->[account_name]->Advanced seems to offer the option to change the mail store account directory, but nothing can actually be changed here. So...
    6. Quit WorkMail.
    7. Move newly created account(s) directories (where [newaccountdirectory] is a directory named with the format: [mail_type]-[user]@[domain].[tld]@[pop].[domain].[tld]]) to the correct location:
    sudo mv ~/Library/Mail/[newaccountdirectory] ~/Library/WorkMail/
    8. Use Property List Editor to set the following values in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.workmail.plist (Apple-S to Save changes!):
    /Root/ActiveViewers/0/AttachedMailboxListExpandedItems/[0to_#_ofaccounts]/=~/Library/WorkMail/Mailboxes/...
    /Root/CurrentTransferMailboxPath=~/Library/WorkMail/Mailboxes/...
    /Root/MailAccounts/[0to_#_of_accounts]/AccountPath=~/Library/WorkMail/[new_accountdirectory]
    /Root/MailDownloadsPath=~/Library/WorkMail Downloads
    9. Relaunch WorkMail.
Everything at this point seems to work okay, **BUT** when I launch Mail while WorkMail is launched, I find that I cannot navigate into any mail folders within Mail. I receive an error message indicating that a necessary directory is locked. It seems that the locking mechanism used by the application may be hard-coded to lock ~/Library/Mail, and both instances of the application continue to take this action when launched, making it impossible for both to work harmoniously at the same time. I will conduct more testing and experimentation, but I am not yet capable of editing the application itself. If anyone can take us this last step, I'm sure there are many who would also like to be able to take advantage of the potential functionality.
    Thanks for any input!

Hopefully, there is someone with a programming background who
can take me and other who have posted similar questions through
    the final mile on this...
Well, I do have a programming background, and I must say that it amazes me that someone might want to do what you did to “solve” a problem that IMO doesn’t exist.
What exactly is it that you expect to accomplish by running multiple instances of Mail, and for which neither (1) organizing your mail using multiple mail accounts, custom mailboxes, rules, and/or smart mailboxes, nor (2) setting up separate user accounts, are acceptable solutions? I just don’t get it.
I've seen many questions regarding the possibility of running multiple
instances of Mail.app as separate processes.
I haven’t. Could you please provide a link for such a question, preferably one asked by someone who knew how Mail and Mac OS X work, i.e. a link for a case where there really was such a need?
There seems to be much good reason to be able to do so
I know of no such reasons, neither good nor bad.
i.e. separating work and private mail
I don’t see how that’s a reason to want to run multiple instances of Mail. Could you please elaborate?
Maybe if you tell us what exactly is the problem that you’re trying to solve, instead of focusing on a convoluted “solution” that doesn’t work, we could propose a solution that does...
and very little bad reason to do so
Well, if the fact that it’s so convoluted and doesn’t even work aren’t bad enough reasons, I don’t know what it is...
It also seems that it should not be so hard to do.
I wonder what makes you think so. It does certainly seem hard to me, so hard that I don’t even think it can be done without breaking something, if at all...

  • I deleted my old Email account because I wanted to create a new one, and I did. However, when ever I send an Email from the Mail app on my laptop it says the Email was sent from my old Email and I just can not get rid of it.

I deleted my old Email and only used my new Email to set up the Mail app on my laptop. And the old Email is completely dead, hotmail.com says the Email no longer excists when I try to sign back in to it however my Emails remain saying 'Sent from Jordan [*old Email*].
    I can't find a solution!!

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

  • Cannot send email in mail app. using POP account with Wi-Fi

I recently moved to an apartment that only has wireless internet access. Since moving I cannot send email using my POP account, although I can receive email. I was also not able to receive email using my .mac account, but I learned through this forum to change server port to 587 in .mac account and now I can send via .mac account in mail app. But I still cannot sent email with mail app. using my POP account. I changed no settings when I moved, and have never had this problem with cable. Any suggestions?

It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at your new location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):
.Mac: Server timeout alert message when sending email

  • How do you stop Mail App from recovering deleted emails

I use Mail app to manage multiple email boxes. Whenever I send a message, it will fail and ask me to send through another server. If it fails, it will infinitely ask this question. Also when I cancel it, it will infinitely recover and try to send the message. Even when I delete the mail box, it will bring it back. That email address is now unusable through the mail app because it shows the spinning wheel and tries to send/recover the one deleted message over and over.
I have read on this forum that if you delete the invisible folder below, it will get rid of the problem
    ~/Library/Mail/IMAP-<username>@[email protected]/.OfflineCache
Where is this folder? There is no folder in Library that is named "Mail". So I don't know what to do.

I did what you said but there is no file with "OfflineCache". I even used spotlight and it cannot find a file named or containing "OfflineCache". I saw the recovery folder and deleated the email in there. But when I start up Mail app, nothing has changed. I even deleted all the cashe on my system using CleanApp (hope this doesn't mess up anything) and nothing has changed. I can't even use Mail App until this is fixed.

  • Reg iPhone Mail App (downloading of emails)

    Hi,
Does iPhone download the entire email when we check for emails?
    Scenario:
    - Open iPhone mail app
    - receive 10 emails
    - open the email to read the contents
    - get ‘loading’ icon..seems as if that’s when it’s trying to get the email
    - the contents received in few seconds depending on the email
    - move on to next email…and see the same loading icon
Is it that mail app downloads just the headers and the content is downloaded when you actually open that particular email? Ideally, I would like the email to be downloaded completely to my phone…this way I can quickly check my emails and move across the messages.
I believe Blackberry works differently where the entire email is downloaded and only attachment is downloaded when you try to access it.
    Thanks,

I have just received the new iphone 4th generation. I have a data plane for 200mb per month.
My question is wether iphone downloads the whole email message or if it downloads only the headers? If it downloads the whole message, can I opt for only the headers?
It seems from the first day of use it downloads all messages including the attachments and thus my data usage is huge. In my old Nokia phone only when I required to read the email it will go ahead to download the whole message-is this possible with iphone?
