Mail cannot connect?
every few minutes I get this error
"Some actions taken while the account “AIM” was offline could not be completed online.
Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online.
Additional information: Operation could not be completed. (MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028.)"
its annoying and it wont let me recieve mail anymore and if i try to send mail it takes a LONG time.
I had a problem similar to this a while back ago. I tried to repair the disk permissions to no avail, then I posted my problem here and this is what the reply was. The following was the answer I got from David Gimeno Gost
Hi SugaredJuggler.
Problems arising right after installing a system update are usually the result of the problem already being there, or some filesystem corruption that should have been fixed first, or not having installed the update properly (e.g. applications running while installing it), or having ignored Apple’s “Important: Please read before installing” warnings, etc.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations, and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Try launching Mail under the following conditions (you may need to force quit it first if it’s running) and post back with your observations:
A. Holding the Shift (⇧) key down until the main window appears. This tells Mail to not select any mailboxes or load any messages upon start up.
B. With no Internet connection.
You may also try trashing the Mail cache:
1. (Force) Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Caches/.
3. Locate the Mail cache folder (not to be confused with the ~/Library/Mail folder where all your mail is stored) and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted after opening Mail and checking that all your mail is there, i.e. after making sure that you didn’t remove the ~/Library/Mail folder by mistake).
I then tried opening apple mail with out being connected to the internet and then after it opened I connected to my wireless network and it worked. I hope this helps but without enough information it is a little hard to help you.

I updated to mountain lion and now mail cannot connect to my server
I updated to mountain lion and now mail cannot connect to my server. It says check your user name and password are correct. Well they are, and were. Nothing has changed except the mac OS.
Has anyone else suffered this and knows a way around it? Too annoying to log into my mail every 15mins via a web page anymore.
Efforts tried to resolve this so far:
retyped user name and password, removed account and created a new account, restarted computer, software update, searched forums. so far all have proved unsuccessful.
I have also written to my mail provider and am waiting for feed back from them, but if anyone has any advice it would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
MikeMany users upgrading to Mountain Lion have run into this problem, myself included. You likely have corrupted settings for your "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" for each of the failed Accounts. Open Mail>go to Mail's Preferences>Accounts>select an Account in the left column to work on>then set up your Outgoing Mail Server which will INCLUDE resetting up your Password, as its asking you to. Click on "SMTP Outgoing Mail Server" near the bottom of the Accounts window while your mail account is highlighted in the left hand column. When you click on SMTP... you will see a drop down box icon offered at the right side of the line. Click it and then select at the bottom of the the list "Edit SMTP Mail Server". Fill in the required settings for your ISP mail account using their recommended settings.

Mail cannot connect to account....
i keep getting this message sometimes a couple times a day ?
"mail cannot connect to account ..."
and i have to re enter my password everytime?Sometimes this problem can be cured by tidying up the Keychain, where login info is stored. You can do this by opening Keychain Access in your Utilities folder. Find the location and login info for the mail account. Delete, say, all but the most recent one. Does that fix the problem? If not, go back and delete even the recent one. When Mail asks you for your login stuff, give it, then check the box which says to store it in the keychain. Sometimes just doing this last step is enough to clear up the annoying login windows.

Mail cannot connect to account, please enter password, problem
Since I have upgraded, I keep getting this pop up box in Mail on my Mac, Mail is workinhg fine on my iPad, but when I try and take the accounts online it just says it cannot connect, please enter password.
Any ideas as I am fairly new to Apple devices. Thanks done that and it wasn't resolving the issue.
But,
I have sussed it out, Mail was using the wrong server address and I never noticed, I had to manually add the accounts instead of mail automatically finding the info and adding them.
Thanks -

Mail cannot connect to iCloud - restart every time necessary
Hello,
I have problem with iCloud and Mail. I have a MacBook Air and I always shut down my computer by putting down the screen.
Since a few weeks, whenever I restart the computer by putting up the screen, the Mail-App cannot connect to iCloud. It can connect to another exchange-mail server. I have to close Mail and reopen it again to get my mails from iCloud.
Does anyone knows a fix?
Best,
MatthiasIn System Preferences > iCloud > uncheck sync to Mail.
If you have other email account go to System Preferences Internet Accounts and uncheck sync to Mail
Go to your User's Library. How to view the User’s Library folder
1) Go to Containers in the User's Library folder. Delete the com.apple.mail folder.
2) Go to the Mail folder. Rename the Mail folder to MailXX
3) Go to Preferences in the User's Library folder.
If you find any com.apple.mail.plist files, delete these.
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
Log in
Open Mail. It will open in an empty Mail with no accounts. Add one account at a time and verify before adding a second email account.
Let me know if this helps. If you have messages saved under "On My Mac" we can import those into the new Identity. We'll go over those detail after we get your iCloud account working.
We can rename MailXX to revert if needed. -

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

10.5.2 Mail cannot connect to intranet Linux mail Server. POP or IMAP
Does anyone have any suggestion ? Haven't been able to get MAIL to connect (either POP or IMAP) to the intranet email Server. If I Telnet the server on 192.168.1.1 110 or 192.168.1.1 143 I get instant connection, MAIL on the other hand just keeps on spinning. Connection Doctor has not helped either, after a few minutes I get red lights. Checked and rechecked all settings, deleted account and recreated account to no avail. Tried running Thunderbird with same settings and everything works fine ! The Linux email server is running Fedora 7 / Cyrus IMAP server. Runs both protocols (IMAP on port 143 and POP on port 110).

Mail cannot connect to iCloud account
Hi,
My Mail client stopped connecting to iCloud all of a sudden this morning.
It has been set up a while ago and always worked fine.
Now it shows the broken connection icon, and when I click on it it asks for my iCloud password.
I enter the correct password and click OK, and nothing happens. The broken connection icon remain and I do not receive new e-mail and cannot send emails.
I am certain this is the right password as I can log into iCloud webmail, and my iphone and ipad remained connected.
How can I solve this frustrating issue?
Is there something wrong with the iCloud server, or is there something I can do?In System Preferences > iCloud > uncheck sync to Mail.

Mail was working fine until my mail provider at optusnet reported that my mailbox had reached 100%.
After I deleted all the email in my optusnet account I couldn't connect to my account on my Apple iMac.Make sure you can still get into it on the web. Make sure the account still exists.
look up the correct server settings for them in Google search.
Backup if you have any On my Mac folders.
Delete the account. (Mail, Accounts, "-" )
Restart Mail
Add the account back. But when you type the Address and Password, instad of hitting Create, hold down alt key and hit Next.
Check the settings while you add the account back.
