Mail files in Mail 1.3.11 vs Mail 2.1.2?
I recently attempted to import my Mail info from my primary computer running 10.4.11 with Mail 2.1.2 into a computer I plan to use for backup use that is running 10.3.9 and Mail 1.3.11 I used a post I found here in the Discussions on 'Moving Folders to a new Mac'.
Mail 1.3.11 recognized the mailboxes and account setup info, but all the mailboxes are empty. Is there something else I need to do to get the messages recognized, or is the new version file just incompatible with the older version? I am not interested in upgrading the 10.3 OS to 10.4.
The mailbox format used by Mail changed drastically in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). Mail 2.x knows about the old format and can import or convert in place mailboxes created by Mail 1.x, but Mail 1.x obviously knows nothing about the new format used by Mail 2.x. Actually, the conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x mailboxes is broken and Mail 2.x sometimes can only import Mail 1.x mailboxes as Other, but that’s another story...
Mail stores the mailboxes in ~/Library/Mail/. Although .mbox packages appear to be files in Mac OS X 10.3, they’re actually folders just like in Mac OS X 10.4. Ctrl-click on an .mbox package and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu to see the files it contains.
For each mailbox, Mail 1.x stores all the messages in a single file in standard mbox format (the mbox file within the .mbox folder/package), whereas Mail 2.x stores messages in individual .emlx files within a Messages folder that Mail 1.x knows nothing about.
The only way to transfer Mail 2.x mailboxes to Mail 1.x is by first exporting or converting them to a (standard mbox) format that Mail 1.x understands. Standard mbox files can be imported into most mail clients. In particular, they can be imported back into Mail (any version) doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Other / Standard mbox as the data format.
If you have access to those messages on a computer running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), you may export them in standard mbox format by selecting the messages in Mail, doing File > Save As and choosing Raw Message Source from the Format popup menu. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has an Archive Messages script that you might also find useful to export all the mailboxes.
On a computer running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), you need something like emlx to mbox Converter or Emailchemy to convert the .emlx files to standard mbox format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

How do I add an e-mail address and capability to send a fill-in pdf file
I have Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 on my PowerMac G4 running OS 10.4.11. I created some pdf forms which have the fill in capability and posted them on my web site. I want to be able to allow someone to click on a button to automatically send the file to my e-mail address. Is that possible if someone is just using Acrobat Reader on a Windows or Apple machine. I see that one cannot "save" the filled in document but they can "print" the filled in document or print a blank (not filled in version). If they could actually save the filled in document that would be just as good because they could attach it to an e-mail. So, is there a way to create a button to e-mail the filled in form to my e-mail address when someone completes it or a way to save the filled in copy as a file (so they can do that with just Acrobat Reader)? Thanks so much for any info.
Barry>If they could actually save the filled in document that would be just as good because they could attach it to an e-mail
In Acrobat Pro, open the form and go to the Advanced menu and choose enable usage rights for Reader users.
Now, they will be able to fill out the form and save it to send it back to you in an email.
Be aware that there is a 500 use per form limit so this isn't a good answer for high volume use forms. -
How can I convert an outlook pst file to mac mail without using a windows based computer
I recently bought the new iMac as my older Windows based computer crashed with a bad motherboard. I have been trying to find a way to convert Outlook 2007 pst files to Mac Mail without the need to use a Windows based computer since all I have now is a Mac. I have the copies of the pst files on my Mac, so I am looking for the most efficient way to convert them to the format that I can then open them in the Mac Mail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi - thanks for the instructions but where do you get the option for Quicktime. If I do File - Export I only get the options for File name, place and size but no option that allows to select quicktime:-(
Have you got any more tips? -

Pdf extension changes to .dat when send a file via e-mail from adobe acrobat 9
to convert a file from microsoft word 2007 to PDF and send as an attachment via e-mail from adobe 9, the file is received with the extension changed to. dat, so recipients can not open it.
Can anyone help me with this. What is the OS of the sending computer?
What mail client?
I receive plenty of files on my PC as .dat files, which come from Mac user(s), rename the extension to what I think they ought to be and have no further problem. (I cannot change the senders email settings where the problem originates)
If the receiver knows it is a pdf file, they can drag it into Acrobat, but renaming the extension serves future use. -
Sender "Mail" adapter - CSV file attachment
Hi there
I'm looking for some help in configuring a sender mail adapter that receives ".csv" files. I did read some blogs that mention using the "PayloadSwapBean" module to read the mail attachment instead of the mail content. My problem is to now convert the ".csv" file into a message. Is there a module that I can use ( is it the "MessageTransfomBean" ) and how. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
SalilHi Salil,
If you want to send a mail with a body and attachments, the message sender HAS to provide an XI message with attachments. I doubt a CSV file does justice.
As Renjith said you need to convert CSV to XmL.
A short description about the Standard Modules:
MessageTransformationBean is a standard module used to apply the XSLT mapping to the adapter module by using <i>Transform.class</i> ( This xslt mapping is done to create a mail package, Dont confuse with the actual mapping in your case this is NOT for converting csv to xml).
Also this module can be used to change the name and type of payloads by using <i>Transform.contentType</i>, <i>Transform.contentDisposition</i>, <i>Transform.contentDescription</i>.
PayloadSwapbean is a standard module for replacing payloads with other payloads (SWAP)
If you want to give each attachment a certain name use Parameters, <i>swap.keyname</i> for name of the payload and <i>swap.keyvalue</i>.
I Hope the use of standard modules is understood. -
Dynamic file name of the attachment in sender mail adapter
Hi
I have configured a sender mail adapter which receives some attachments.
Right now the file name of the attachment is hardcoded to "MailAttachment-1" "MailAttachment-2" using the content-description from "AF_Modules/PayloadSwapBean" module.
I want to set it to dynamic ie. instead of "MailAttachment-1"... i want it with real name of the attach.
please suggest a solution w/o the need to develop a custom adapter module.
Thanks!
Regards,
Mariano.Thanks Prateek,
Now, i can see that the name of the original file is into the content type named as text/xml; name"name of the file.xml" when i send the email from outlook.
If i send it from hotmail, this is not happend.
Do you know why happend this?
If i always would have the original name inside the content type, my problem will be solved.

Email attachment name in sender mail adapter to the receiver file adapter
HI ,
Ths is regarding email to file scenario. I am trying to create file (in rceiver file adapter) with the same name as the email attachment that i read from mail sender adapter. I want ro use adapter module for this. I could find from blogs that there is module - GetAttachmentName - available that i can use for this in sender mail adapter.
Can you please let me know what whetehr i neeed to mention any module key and parameters for this.
I assume , i need to do following steps :Please confirm.
1. i can use this module - after payload swap module and before standard mail adapter module in sender mail adapter
2. select ASMA option in advanced tab in sender mail adapter
3. In receiver file adapter select ASMA option in advanced tab in sender mail adapter
4. Also select file name option in ASMA in sender mail adapter
Thanks,
VamsiHi Vamsi,
your scenario is also described here: Re: sender mail adapter - attachment name
If you use the Module getAttachmentName, which is described here,
http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/XI/AdapterModulePI7.0GetAttachmentName
your scenario should work as you described it.
You just need to make sure that the Attachment Name that you read in the first place, is mapped to the Filename Attribute of the
Fileadapter (http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File/FileName).

Can not open all .pdf files in Yahoo Mail.
Three computers using Windows XP and Internet Explorer can open all .pdf files in Yahoo
Mail. The fourth and newest Computer with XP Pro, Internet Explorer, and the latest Adobe
Reader can only open some, but not all, .pdf files in Yahoo Mail. Nothing happens when
the window is clicked to open file. How can this be fixed?Adobe Reader isn't my favorite, but neither are smug and uninformed assertions about Preview. There are PDFs that render only squares and marks under Preview (http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/24209/this-pdf-displays-with-question-m arks-instead-of-letters), which is a common problem in MS Windows Office generated PDFs, so you may actually need Adobe Reader for Mac.
If you need to use Adobe Reader (as I do), then it may depend on the filesystem type where you save your PDF. For example, our Macs are network homed. Saving to desktop produced the error reported above no matter whether I used Safari:Save As, or the PDF save icon.
However, when I saved to a local drive (such as /tmp), then it worked. I don't know why file system makes a difference, unless Adobe is doing something with extended attributes that doesn't get written correctly to some filesystems.
Hope this helps. -

Copy file names into New Mail Message?
*I've been slowly teaching myself Applescript, and can't seem to find a way to do a few things. Basically what I'm trying to do is set up a script that will run when items are dropped into a folder on my FTP. I want the script to have a pop-up dialogue, and generate an email to certain users announcing new files are on the FTP. I have these 2 parts down, but I would also like the body of the email to include a list of the filenames. This part I can't figure out.*
*I just need to find a function that will copy the filenames of new items, and paste them into the body of the email already being generated. My current code is below. Anyone have any ideas to help me expand?*

Where are iCal, Mail, Address Book, etc. files????
If we reinstall the OS because of major problems, but the drive files are backed up, can we retrieve Mail, Address Book, iCal, etc. files? Our office assistant is tearing her hair out having to re-do everything. Supposedly it's backed up, but she can't find it...or how to RECOVER her missing data.
HELP!It was "solved" by someone else, who just dragged the files over. We've had nothing but trouble with the machine ever since. I will repost updating with the new problems....

Since upgrading to Firefox 4.0.1 the "attach files" function in my Yahoo Mail account no longer functions. When I click the "attach files" button nothing happens - nothing. No file selection box opens, no error message appears, no pinwheel of death, nothing.
The "attach files" button is no longer 'hot' in FF 4.0.1 either = the "little hand" icon does not appear when I scroll over it. Other action buttons are still 'hot' ("attachments", "emoticons", "format", "hide bcc"etc.) - just not the "attach files" button.
The Yahoo Mail "attach files" function still works when I use my Safari browser, however. So, it appears to be a FF4.0.1 issue.
