Mail hangs up in the Outbox in OS X 10.9 Maverick (MacbookPro, too)

The frustration is significant. I have double checked all settings, even increased priority, but it is a 2-4 minute wait while mail decides to send the message continues. I most often can't get on with other work while waiting for the mail to send. Maverick has email issues, and I hope there is an army of programmers working on this issue! I have already turned off iCloud support for Mail, Contacts, and Keychain with good result.

I have this issue too. Attachments, no matter how small, seem to trigger the problem. The blue bar that shows progress of the email going out scoots across the bottom of the column in Mail showing the email being sent, but then it hangs just a hair before the end. And the spinning beach ball starts and I have to crash the entire machine. Please, Apple, fix this!

  • Mails are stuck in the outbox after an offline period

    Hi!
I am often writing e-mail while I'm offline, e.g. on planes, buses etc.
Then when I get back online I kinda expect the Mail App to send these mails instantly. However it does not do that. The mails are stuck in the outbox for up to 15-20 minutes after I get back online. The e-mails I have received while being offline are downloaded instantly as they should be. And if I then write new e-mails after getting back online they just get stuck in the same queue together with the other stuck e-mails.
Is there a fix for this? Do you experience the same? It is really annoying and making wonder if I should get another Mail App.
I have just installed the new Yosemite and I was hoping it had fixed the problem. But it hasn't...
I am working on a MacBook Pro 2013.
    Thanks!

iOS does not run on MacBook Pros.

  • I just downloaded the new OS7 and now my e-mails are stuck in the outbox.  I've tried several ways to send, with no luck.  Help!

I just downloaded the new OSX 10.8.3 operating system, and now my e-mails are stuck in the outbox.  I've tried to send various ways with no luck.  Help!

Does the new IOS 8 and instagram only allow pictures taken with the phone? as I can still choose from those, just not the ones I upload/save.
I don't know about instagram, but apps, that not yet have been upgraded to iOS8 can only access the photos that appear in the "Recently Added" album, because there is no longer a Camera Roll.
As a work-around, try to create an album of the photos you want to share to instagram. For other apps this helped to make photos accesible.

  • I am not able to send Photos via email any longer. I am able to send emails but if I try to send a photo attached it just hangs there in the outbox. I have tried the various options to re-boot ?

I hope someone can help with this
I am now unable to send any photos from my iPad2,  When I got this last December it worked fine and I could easily take a picture and send it.
About a month ago I tried it and it and it failed, I was abroad and did not think it was a problem?
Although I have not changed anything to my set up outhe than automatic software upgrades on the iPad it refuses to work.
I can send emails without photos and tried rebooting and re setting the internet connection,
The email just sits in the outbox and I get the following message?
connection to the outgoing server "smtp. gmail.com" failed
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated Thanks

Thanks for replying and your time.
Unfortunately no rebuild option in iphone 3gs

  • TS3899 I've tried all of the suggestions but my mail still sits in the outbox. Incoming working fine.

My live.com mail won't send. Have deleted acct and recreated, powered off, closed outlook on my laptop to no avail? Any suggestions?

HI, and thank you for your reply.  I am a bit confused  however as I would have thought that once I turned off the engine of my car the transmitter and ipod would be also off???? Is there still power coming into the cigarette lighter when the car is off>????? i have a mercedes c class.  The cigarette lighter is still working and the transmitter is still working.  Are you saying that by leaving them still plugged in even though the car was idle and not running it still destroyed  the hard drive????  Also could this happen if a person leaves it docked in a radio cd player but is not listening to it, is it still charging and could this have burned out the hard drive.  (i always left it docked) until i bought the transmitter for the car.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated as obviously I do not want to make the same mistake again.
    kind regards

  • TS3899 My mail gets put in the outbox because it failed to get to the server? What does that mean ?

When i try to forward or reply to an email I get a message that says " a copy of your message has been sent to your outbox. Sending the message to the server failed." I'm not sure to to stop it from happening, any ideas?

It means you have the wrong SMTP server set up on your phone for that account.  Contact your email provider and get the correct settings to use on a mobile device.

  • My mail is stuck in the outbox AGAIN

Help, I have googled how to fix this problem and so far nothing has worked.  Will I need to go to Apple to fix this problem?

Recheck that the settings in your mail software matches the needs of the mail server you are using.
Somebody here may be able to help you if you let us know the following:
Which mail software are you using? (the one supplied with your Mac? something you bought? which? some varety of webmail? which?)
Which mail provider are you using? (Apple's iCloud? gmail? something at work? something your ISP provided?)

  • Another Mail Hang Solved

This might be of help to somebody.
    Problem:
My Mail hanged while fetching the first message from the .Mac IMAP server.
    Solution:
It turned out that there was some "left overs" in the system level SIMBL bundles (/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins) among them MailHelper.bundle . They where all from iAlert which I had "unistalled" a long time ago. I probably didn't use the install/uninstall application provided for iAlert, and thus the bundles was still there.
    Lesson learned:
Bevare of bundles especially SIMBL bundles. At least know what you are doing. That's the lesson I learned from this!

  • Mail hangs in Outbox

Since I "upgraded" to Yosemite, emails often "hang" in the Outbox - sometimes for a minute, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days.... and sometimes it's not a problem at all. Sometimes I can open the message in Outbox and resend it, but most often that doesn't work. Sometimes when a message has been in the Outbox all day, it will send when I restart the next morning. Sometimes the message will never be sent. This annoying post-Yosemite behavior affects all messages irregardless of length/size/content/attachments or lack thereof. One of my three accounts is most susceptible (a ".me" address), but all of the accounts fall victim to this glitch at least a few times a day. Any thoughts? Purge plist files?

  • How can I stop MS Outlook Mail in the outbox from being sent?

I attempted to mail an email with a large attachment file.  One of the addresses was bad.  When my Outlook is running, the Mac tries to send it and shows the progress.  However, when I look in my Outbox the files are not there.  It does show up in the Outbox progress section but I can not delete it when it is there.
    Where do these files reside?
    Is there a hidden Outbox??

Instead of using the wait ms.vi you could use 'tick count' at the beginning
of the loop and then have an inner loop that keeps checking the 'tick count'
until time minus time > time to wait.
You will need to figure out how to handle the case where the millisecond
timer wraps from 2^32-1 to zero. That should not be too difficult.

  • How can I make mail retry sending messages in the Outbox?

    Howdy all,
As the title says how can a force Mail to try to resend the messages in the outbox? I use my MacBook Pro in a number of different environments and when I am on one flakey access point in particular or when I have forgotten to open Safari to reauthorize recently on another network Mail will fail to contact the SMTP server. When this happens my message gets stuck in the outbox to be sent later. My problem is that I do not know how to get it out of there effectively.
Once I have fixed the transitive error in the network (or or the problem fixes itself) how do I get the messages out of the inbox? At this point I can send more messages with no problem and they will happily go out but those in the queue just sit there.
Now, I have tried a number of things like quitting and restarting Mail, bringing the various network interfaces back up and down, and other things to try to trick Mail into sending the queued messages but that has been haphazard at best. I can't help thinking that there is something obvious I am missing.
    Thanks for any help!

Highlight the message in the inbox, double-click on it, and click on the "send" icon
You may even consider BCCing yourself to see whether the message actually goes or not, and you just have an artifact copy stuck in your outbox that you could then just delete.
Otherwise, copy&paste the stuck message body into a new message, and delete the stuck one out of the outbox before attempting to send the new one

  • How to unhide the Outbox in Mail 5.1

I tried to send an attachment that is too large with a mail message.  It tries and tries but will not send.
The turning gear shows up next the Sent folder but there is no Outbox folder visible.  How can I diplay
the Outbox so I can delete the screwed message that is hung in the outbound queue?
I sure wish Mail had an Outbox

Turn off your WiFi, and send an email.  As it can't be sent, the Outbox will become visible and you can then add it to your Favorites by dragging the Outbox Folder to the favorite bar:

  • I just purchased an ipad and I can receive e-mail but I can't send or reply.  I get a message that the e-mail is in the outbox because the server won't allow 'relaying.'  What do I need to do?

I just purchased an ipad2 and I can receive e-mails but I can't reply to or forward them.  I also can't send a new e-mail.  I receive a message that the e-mail has been placed in the outbox because the server won't allow 'relaying.'  On my laptop, using the same e-mail server, I am fine.  What can I do to make the ipad2 e-mail function properly?

Contact whoever manages your email server and ask them what ports and security to use for SMTP from remote locations. ISPs and email admins often require different SMTP settings when sending email when not connected to the server's or ISP's network.

You haven't set up the SMTP (outgoing) mail server correctly. You probably didn't enter your user ID and password for the outgoing server. They are needed even though it says "optional".
