Mail is resizing images without my permission!!!

I've been trying to send a TIFF file to a printer for a business card. They said my image was all fuzzy, so I checked my Sent folder, and sure enough, it was fuzzy. I assumed it happened again. So I created a new TIFF for them, attached it to an email, then opened the attachment - looked great full screen, very sharp. The printer made a proof for me - fuzzy proof, crap image. So I checked my Sent mail, and sure enough what was sent was not what I attached and viewed before Sending.
Mail is dumbing down my attachments. How do I stop this?

At the bottom of the new message window is the Image Size set to Original?
If all else fails, you could put the tiff into a .zip and send it that way.

  • Resizing images without export

    Hi all,
    I would like to create a folder that contains re-sized versions of my master images. The folder will be photos that I am posting to my web site and I want to be able to control their size and keep this resized image in my aperture library. I am uploading them through the site host's uploader (squarespace) using finder, not exporting through aperture. Is there a way to create duplicate,resized versions of the images without exporting and re-importing the photos?
    I know that aperture isn't photo editing software, but i expected that it would be able to do basic things (mirror, resize, etc) and am constantly disappointed. I could round-trip to photoshop, but I hope there's an easier solution.
    Thanks,
    John

    First question - why do you need the JPEGs? If it's to upload them to a site via FTP there are export plug-ins to do this directly from within Aperture.
    Using the media browser isn't going to help you at all because that will be accessing Previews in Adobe98 profile - not something you should be putting up on a website.
    I also came across this problem when I wanted to convert a large number of raw files to jpegs and keep the new jpegs in my library. At the time I was running low on disk space and didn't need the raws anymore, but had to go through the process of exporting and re-importing for a bunch of projects.
    Sorry, but that's a bit too alien an idea for me - I never threw away negatives back when I was using film, why would you throw away RAW files now?
    Another pet peeve I have is that there is no status indicator when exporting (2 minutes left, 25% done, etc....anything besides a beachball), so I don't know how long the export will take, and on my 2006 macbook it sometimes takes a while.
    At the bottom of the Browser pane on the left you will see a progress 'swirl' when exporting, importing or generating Previews. Click on it to bring up the activity window with progress bars for all current actions. You can also access it through Window>Show Activity.

  • Help - Resizing images WITHOUT awt or graphics2D

    Hi all.
    I have a JSP application running on a shared Tomcat hosting.
    My users can send images to the site.
    I cannot find a way to resize an image without using AWT or graphics.
    (I also cannot switch to headless mode, the JVM is not mine to control)
    I tried using ImageIO but crashed because there is no X11 graphics on the server.
    I tried using the PJA toolkit, but I could not find a way to RESIZE an image using PJA.
    Help ! This is driving me mad.
    Thanks !
    Shachar Weis.

    Jeff,
    The printing service should only need to know the size at which you want it printed. At that point they can adjust the PPI to a number that will shrink the print size, but not destroy any pixels.
    You can adjust the DPI as you Export if you wish, but that should not be necessary. To change the DPI, choose JPEG Original, say, and click on Edit and you can change the DPI to a higher number, and export.
    If you export any photo, open it in Preview, click on Tools and choose Adjust size then you can see the impact of changing the Resolution on inches/or metric measure, which is what the printer can do. In Adjust Size be sure to Deselect the option to Resample -- the latter would otherwise remove pixels and result in a lower resolution.

  • Resizing images without pixelation

    Hi everyone
    This is a topic that everyone seems to be wondering about but
    nobody has the answer. If you look at a site like
    www.manipulator.com , the screen can be resized and the images will
    increase along with it (until a certain point of course) but at no
    point do the images pixelate? Where as my images do not matter how
    good the quality or picture format.
    If anybody has any ideas how this is done I would be
    greatful!
    Thanks

  • Resizing image without cropping

    I am trying to add a value to the width in InDesign in order to resize an image. What's happening is that it is resizing the image by cropping it. I don't want the image cropped; I just want it reduced proportionately. What should I do?

  • Mail is deleting messages (without my permission or action)

    I posted this problem first in response to another problem but now I think this is a serious mail problem that others should be aware of.
    Something is deleting my e-mail messages that are more recent then the last 10 days or so. This delete is ACROSS all mailbox folders and ACROSS all three of my e-mail accounts. My e-mail accounts are mac mail using IMAP and two other accounts using POP.
    I am trying different things to see if there is anything on my computer that initiates this behavior. So far, I have turned off all of my mail RULES. And, I have disabled any of the automatic trash cleanup deletes.
    There is one additional strange behavior. When ever I click on my main Inbox folder there is a double update (refresh) to the screen. Nothing is changed from what I can tell but the list of messages is refreshed twice. This never happened before today.
    I would be very interested if anyone else has similar behavior.

    If the behavior is still not normal, that could indicate a corrupt Preferences file. You should create a new user account for testing purposes only and try Mail in that account. If you make the settings the same as what you had in your original user account and the problem continues, that would indicate the problem is in that other account.
    If that's the case, you should go to /users/<your username>/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to your Desktop, then restart Mail and enter all your account information again. It is tedious, but that would be the only way to fix that problem, or eliminate it if it's not the problem.

  • How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)

    How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)
    I want in attachment, not in the body mail.

    I think your only solution is to zip the image files first and then attach them.
    Read this from a site I found:
    Sending Graphical Attachments -- When you attach a graphical image to your message, the recipient of your message sees the image inline (that is, in the body of the message) if her email client supports inline display. ("Take Control of Email with Apple Mail" contains a table listing the capabilities of popular Mac and PC email clients.) If a client does not support inline display (or the recipient has turned off the inline display option), the file appears as an attachment that must be opened in a separate program.
    On the one hand, an inline image is easier for the recipient to see - all she has to do is look at it. On the other hand, inline images can be frustrating to scroll through. If you do not wish to send a graphical image inline, you must compress the file before attaching it - Mail, sadly, lacks a built-in compression option, though fortunately for Panther users, the Finder offers Zip compression without requiring a separate application.
    Note that when you compose a new message, Mail always shows attachments in the body of your message. You can manually drag them somewhere else, but many email clients display all attachments in a separate list, regardless of where you place them in the message body.
    If you paste an image into a message or drag & drop an image from another window (say, a Web browser), Mail converts the raw image data to an attachment in TIFF format. On the other hand, if you drag & drop the icon of an image file (or use the Attach button to locate the file using the file browser), Mail leaves the attached image in its original format. This difference is significant, because although most email clients can display JPEG images just fine, support for TIFF - especially in non-Mac email clients - is less common. If possible, I suggest attaching image files as opposed to pasting or dragging in raw image data.

  • APERTURE users: how do we send full size images without compression? Mail compresses, Drop Box, all that have a tag "badges" next to JPEG under 'Info' in Aperture compress? What can I do, HELP Please.

    In Aperture under INFO at bottom it says Badges; if it has an Icon in the block it compresses JPEG image down to KB? Using mail, using drop box with my Aperture and can't figure out how to get rid of 'Badges with the Icon in the box to be able to send full size. Also have been using: "onOne Software" an add on editing program thats awesome, works as a stand alone, Aperture, & Lightroom.
    Bottom Line I can't send to lab my web page, or individule without it compressing. Even created a desk top folder droped & dragged in ZIP & still Compression?

    See this link:  Aperture 3 User Manual: Understanding Badge Overlays
    The badges in the Info panel have nothing to do with compression. The tell you, if your image has keywords attached, if it is a raw or jpeg image, if has been externally edited, or if it is referenced.
    When you send an jpeg using mail, you need to set the image size in Mail to "Acual Size", otherwise will Mail compress the image.  For example:
    If you have really large images, Mail may not be optimal, because the server of the recepient may refuse to accept large Mail attachments.  In that case export the image from Aperture in the resolution you want with "File > Export" and compress it as a zip file. That will not reduce the quality.
    Send the zipped file, if it is small enough, otherwise upload it to an ftp-server.
    The receiver can uncompress it.

  • How to proper resize images and videos at runtime without losing quality?

    Hi guys. I need a bit of help here.
    I've built a flash site in which i want to resize a movie to the stage. I do it by keeping the proportion, thus i only resize the width and then i resize the height acordingly to the new width but keeping the proportion.
    The problem is that my film still looks "pixeled".
    I found a website on which the stage resizes dinamically with the movie and the background images without either of them losing quality. Till now i knew that resizing images or videos in flash at authoring or runtime produces pixeled results.
    This is the website: http://kampanjeweb.apt.no/jotun/romforrom/. Can someone tell me how do they do it without losing quality? just make the browser windowed and resize the margins to see the effect.
    Thanks.

    Hello, Venian.
    About the video, you could try setting the flash.media.Video's smoothing property to TRUE. This should keep a quality, but you can do nothing if the video has a poor quality. You need a great video.
    About the images, you you need to redraw the image each time you resize it. To achieve it, use a combination of Bitmap, BitmapData and Matrix classes. Any doubt, just call again. Here is a simple example:
    var scale:Number = .5;
    var highQualitySourceImage:Bitmap = ...your image...;
    var scaleMatrix:Matrix = new Matrix();
         scaleMatrix.scale(scale, scale);
    var bitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData( scale*highQualitySourceImage.width, scale*highQualitySourceImage.height);
         bitmapData.draw(highQualitySourceImage, scaleMatrix);
    var finalBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(bitmapData);
    addChild( finalBitmap );
    Cheers,

  • Placing images without resize?

    When I put some images into a psd via placement instead of copy/paste, the images are resized, often by a lot. It appears that different resolutions is the reason.
    Image sizes are retained in copy/paste, but placement is faster, so I'm wondering if it's possible to retain image sizes via placement without tweaking the resolutions.
    Disabling "Resize Image During Place" doesn't help. Neither does changing the W and H values to 100% during placement, as it appears that the images were already resized so that 100% of the placed images are still way off of the original image sizes.
    Thanks!

    As Wade said, I don't think this is any bug. sounds mor like you are using some sort of hyper-sensitive input device (or misconfigured one) that causes accidental selection and move of existing work.

  • RESIZING GIF IMAGES WITHOUT LOSING ANIMATION

    Is it possible to resize a Gif image without losing animation?  I tried but unfortunately lost the animation. I use CS3 Extended.  Thanks

    No, I don't think so. for that, you'd probably have to import your animation using the Video to Layers option, resize, then rebuild the animation and export it.

  • Resizing images in mail

    Does anyone know how I can resize an image that I have dragged into a mail. I assumed that mail would offer me a drag resize of images but this doesn't seem to be available or is it?
    thanks

    Hi Bob
    I seemed to have hit a nerve.
    Agreed mail is not primarily a graphics application however as I am sure you are aware these days many applications do do jobs that they initially didn't. Your assertion would suggest that web browsers should not display images. After all the first web browsers as I am sure you will remember did not show images as images were not supported in html.
    Why on earth should I have to open a separate application just to reduce the size of an image by around 35% when nearly all other mail applications quite rightly happily allow the user to resize images to whatever size you like.
    Whats the equivalent of a pedant in technology?

  • How can I resize an image without losing resolution or using the crop tool? I am using Photoshop Elements 13 on a PC.

    How can I resize an image without losing resolution or using the crop tool? I am using Photoshop Elements 13 on a PC.

    Hi Peru Bob,
    I've tried two images, the results were:
    Image 1
    Jpg, original file size 923KB, dimensions 848px x 279px.
    After resizing to 848px x 180px with 72dpi, the file size decreased to 164KB.
    Image 2
    Jpg, original file size 809KB, dimensions 1200px x 1800px.
    After resizing to 668px x 722px with 72dpi, the file size decreased to 307KB.
    So, there seems to be a fair file size loss - is this to be expected?

  • Resize A Image Without Losing Quality

    I have been reading about how to best resize image in PS CS4/CS5.  I've read that you should increase the size of a image in increments and I’ve also read that you should resize using the bicubic smoother setting in PS.
    The image that I would like to resize is 5W x 7H and resolution of 150. I would like to print this image at 30W x 40H on a HP Designjet 5500ps.
    Any recommendation on how I should go about resizing the image without losing quality?

    No matter which method you used, scaling up a photo 5 times is going to look very good.
    There are some software that purports to scale up an image without blurry edges. Not sure how well they work.
    If you can obtain the original image and rescan it at a higher resolution that would work better.
    Or, if the photo can be easily recreated as a vector drawing, then do that with illustrator and print it out large.
    Or if you or someone you know is a great artist, then scale up the photo in photoshop (which would become blurry), then hand correct the edges to make them sharp. This requires drawing ability.

  • I'm too bad in math! can't figure the correct function to resize   images

    This is driving me crazy, just becasue I don't have the
    logical brains it takes:
    I want to dynamically (PHP) resize images, according to a max
    width and max height parameters.
    What's giving me a problem is that max width and max height
    are not equal, AND the images should be
    resized only if their original size is too big:
    $max_width = 650;
    $max_height = 500;
    $size = getimagesize($image);
    $img_width = $size[0];
    $img_height = $size[1];
    Now how do I write a function that will resize images of any
    possible size, *only if they need to*,
    to fit in the maximum size *rectangle*?...
    I have tried for hours to get it right, and I am ending up
    with a function so full of conditionals
    and sub-sub-conditionals that I'm getting completely lost.
    I hope you can help, I'm sure it should be very simple...

    here's the solution. This will correctly and proportionally
    reduce image size according to ANY max
    width and max height, no matter what the difference between
    max width and max height:
    if(($width <= $max_width) && ($height <=
    $max_height)){
    // The image is the right size already
    $targetwidth = $width;
    $targetheight = $height;
    }else{
    // if width > height
    if($width >= $height){ // if height > width
    $targetwidth = $max_width;
    $targetheight = $targetwidth * ($height / $width);
    // here we must check again if reduced height is not still
    greater than max_height
    if($targetheight > $max_height){
    $targetheight = $max_height;
    $targetwidth = $targetheight * ($width / $height);
    }elseif($height > $width){ // if height > width
    $targetheight = $max_height;
    $targetwidth = $targetheight * ($width / $height);
    // here we must check again if reduced width is not still
    greater than max_width
    if($targetwidth > $max_width){
    $targetwidth = $max_width;
    $targetheight = $targetwidth * ($height / $width);
