Mail Rules missing "mark as unread" and "mark as unflagged"

I'm adding some new rules in Mac Mail and just noticed that there is no option to "mark as unread" in my list. My friend has it coming up, but it isn't there for me.
When I click to add a new rule, the drop-down for Perform actions lists "delete", "mark as read" and "mark as flagged". I'm missing "mark as unread" and "mark as unflagged".
Why would I be missing those options?
Thanks,
Morton++

Mail rules doesn't offer these options which is why you don't have them. Your friend must be mistaken. and anyway since the rules are only applied to new messages there is no point in having the option to mark them as unread - they are unread already. You can add a rule to unflag messages using apple script but if I'm not mistaken all new messages are unflagged by default too so there is no point for this one either.

  • How can I stop the mail app from downloading old messages and marking them as new.... repetedly

I have just bought myself my first ever mac, and i've been having a little trouble with the mail function that comes with it. The first time i connected my mail app to my hotmail adress, all my old mails started coming in and they were all marked as unread. i had like 7000 og them, so it took a while for them all to load. after this i marked them all as read, and it was fine for a couple of days.
I am not sure what makes all my e-mails load as "new" again and again, but it happens every so often. This is very annoying because i get a little notification at the top of my screen for every "new" e-mail.
In the beginning i didn't think that much of it, but now it is really starting to annoy me, bacause it has happened so many times, so my question is:
Have any of you experienced this? And how did you fix it?
And i am running the OS X version 10.8.2, if that is relevant

Is it an IMAP or POP account?
For POP accounts, you can select remove from server under the advanced tab of the account.

  • Mark as unread

Is there any development on being able to mark text messages or voice mails as unread? It is all too often that I look or listen to a message and don't want to deal with it then, but i still don't want to forget about it.

You can mark an email as unread that has been opened and marked as read.
With the email open that you want marked as unread, select Mark as Unread, which is located just below and to the right of the message header.
The same is not possible for visual voicemail messages.

  • Mail rule message content as variable

I run a minecraft serer, and i need a way to promote a player when they fill in a form on the website. Every time a player filles in the form, I get an email like this:
    New application for member:
    Naam:  <name of the pearson>
Username:  <minecraft username of the person>
Skype naam:  <skype name of the person>
    E-mail:  <email of the person>
Nieusbrief:  <Whether they want to get the newsletter or not>
I know there is a way to setup a mail rule that runs an applescript, and from that I can run a shel script, but is it posible to feed the playername to the shel script script as a variable? So from the mesage body to the apple script, and from the apple script th the shel script. First problem I face is getting the username to the apple script. Then there is the second problem: I know there is an run-shel-script thingy, but i'm not sure how to pass the variable on from the apple script to the shel scrip. (I don't have anny experience with apple scripts...)
    Anny help is appreciated.

    Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your reply.  I am glad to hear that I am wrong again )
In your opinion is it possible to force the Outlook Exchange server to add the content attachment every time?  I mean by doing some configuration on it...?
The reason why we would like to do this is because when - in the content tag of a Mail Package message - we have MIME message parts that are of content-type text/html we are having problems in decoding the html back to a readable format.
To do this we use the apache QuotedPrintableCodec Java class.
This works fine when the content type of the message is just text/plain but we get an exception when we try with text/html.
    The exception we get is:
org.apache.commons.codec.DecoderException: Invalid URL encoding: not a valid digit (radix 16): 13
I don't know if this is because of the two character sets we have in the payload (utf-8 and iso-8859-1) or if it is for other reasons...
If you could help me figure out how to forward any HTML email to another system in a readable format it would be great.
    Thanks for your support,
    Aldo

  • Rule containing "Mark as Read" and "Move to Folder" does not remove New Mail Notification

I asked this question in another forum here (sorry for not linking, but the forum would not let me because my account is not yet verified):
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/rule-containing-mark-as-read-and-move-to-folder/061a8009-dd98-4304-81b0-6c4c8a5a6205
They passed the buck to this forum.  Can anyone help?  Here is my original post:
I have set up a rule so that emails from a certain sender should be marked as 'read' and routed to a certain folder.  The rule works just fine except for the fact that it does not remove the new mail notification from the taskbar icon
or the system tray.  The rule reads as follows:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
with New Home Sale in the subject
move it to the _New Home Sales folder
      and mark it read
Once I open the _New Home Sales folder, all messages are marked as read, as they should be.  When I open any of the emails in this folder, the notification goes away.  It does not even have to be the most recent email or the same folder
    - opening any email from any folder clears the notification, even if the same email was used to clear it before.  Previewing does not remove the notification.
I have a similar rule set up for another folder:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
with New Home Final Sale in the subject
move it to the _New Home Final Sales folder
      and mark it as read
The same thing happens here with the unread notification.
This is very annoying, as I want to receive these emails but I do not need to know every time one comes in.
Does anyone have any advice on this?  I have read a few threads about an unread email bug, but I'm hoping I'm just missing a setting somewhere. I find it hard to believe such a bug would persist this long.

    Hi,
From your description, I would like to verify the Exchange version and Outlook version at first. Since I have a test in my environment using Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010. I create a same inbox rule, it works and there is no new mail notification from
    the taskbar.
What's more, I recommend you use Outlook safe mode to determine whether the problem is caused by add-ins.
If the issue persists, please install the Outlook latest Service Packs and check the result.
    Hope it helps.
    Best regards,

  • When I open my mail app it shows that I have unread mail, so I click mark all read and carry on my business. About 2 seconds later all the mail I just marked comes back unread. This keeps happening, what can I do?

Everytime I get a new email, I open the mail app and mark it as read. Recently, whenever I receive emails I mark them all read yet 2 seconds later they are all marked unread. I again mark them all read and the same thing happens. I now have 95 emails from 2 weeks ago that I clearly marked read but they won't stay read. What can I do?

Opened mail this morning and all of a sudden all my old and already read messages appeared marked unread and mail exexpectedly quits.
I have read many answers to this problem in the Os X 10.4 group, but no real solutions, except for the one about the mailto-link. But that didn't work for me either. People think this is a 10.4.3 bug, but my Mac (G4 mirrored) runs Os 10.3.9 .

p.s. is there a way to save all my read messages if I decide to reinstall mail?

I don’t understand what you say about what you’ve seen in the Tiger forum, but Mail is crashing because of some corruption in at least one of the files used by the junk filter.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash. This file stores information about what does and doesn’t constitute junk, and allows the junk filter to learn. Deleting this file is what Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset does. The file was called LSMMap in early versions of Mail; delete that as well if you see it.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • No longer able to 'mark as unread' in rules

My memory may not be completely accurate, but I am sure that in Mail 3.0, it was possible to set up a rule to mark a message as unread. My existing rules, which move messages to certain folders and mark them as unread, no longer work as I expect.
    Is there a fix/workaround?

    Just Jim wrote:
Under "Sharing", I only have File Sharing checked on the left. File Sharing is On. My home directory is the only one under Shared Folders and my User Name is at the top of the list with Read & Write access. On the Options pane, "Share Files and Folders using AFP" is the only item checked.
Try checking "Remote Login" as well. Then close System Preferences (or at least that pane) to be sure it has taken effect.
Under Security/Firewall, "Allow all incoming connections" is the only one checked.
OK. You may later want to change this to "Set access for specific services and applications", but let's get it working first!

  • Sent mail is marked as 'unread'

This just started happening a few days ago. No settings have been changed, nothing is different in how or where mail is stored. About 1/2 of the mail I send now appears as 'unread' in the Sent mail folder in Mail.
Why? How can I make this stop? I rely on the red badge over Mail in the dock to let me know there is mail to check, now I constantly have to open Mail, select Sent, click on my own messages and then return to Inbox to clear badges. Annoying, really annoying...
Anybody know anything about this or why it's suddenly happening?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Bryan

I am using a rule to deal with this problem (first select all sent messages and mark as read, the rule will then work on new messages):
If all the following conditions are met:
Date Sent Is Less Than 1 days old
    From Contains youremailaddresss
    Message Type is Mail
    Perform the following actions:
    Move Message to mailbox Sent
    Mark as Read

  • Sent Mail Marked As Unread

In Lion Mail, sent mail is being marked as unread. Why is that? Can I change that behaviour or is this a bug maybe?

    A couple further details...
    Using a .me account
I sent 3 emails, one after the other, to my work address, 2 of the 3 show up as Unread in the Sent, though all 3 were received by my work address
Using the same .me outgoing server for all emails
There are no Rules in effect that would cause this
This seems to happen at random to only maybe 1 or 5 sent emails
They are going to both .me and other domains.

  • Some read mail items remain marked as unread

Some read mail items remain marked as unread (even after I've read them).
I have to manually mark them as read.
This doesn't happen to all mail items, just some.
    How can I fix this?

A few discoveries I made this morning.
One is that disabling GPGMail seems to solve the problem, or at least significantly reduce its occurrence.
Another is that with GPGMail enabled, it seems to depend on how quickly one opens an email. I can't say for sure that this is a hard and fast rule, but messages staying unread seems to be more of a problem if you've just entered the folder or just been viewing another message and suddenly change to an unread one. It's as though GPGMail causes Mail to need some time to think things through.
A third is that if you have multiple mail accounts, a workaround to reset the unread count exists. If a mail folder in Account One is having problems, you can switch to a folder in Account Two, possibly wait an interval of time (not sure what that interval would be), then switch back to your original Account One folder. That seems to force a refresh of the unread count, without needing a folder rebuild (with consequent loss of expanded threads, etc).
However, for the time being, I've just disabled GPGMail. I can re-enable it as needed, by the looks of it, and it's not as though I've really needed to use it yet.
I could wish, though, that Apple offered proper GPG support, or at least that they made enough of their API available that third parties could do a proper job instead of an ugly and somewhat broken hack. (I've also seen complaints that Apple like to change their API without telling anyone, just to keep third-party developers on their toes =P.) I suppose another problem is lack of available time. Which I also suffer from, so I don't think a "real solution" is forthcoming from this quarter, at least.

  • How to global remove unread message mark in Mail

I just vacated MS Outlook for Mac to use Mail for the first time. I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.4 and am current on updates. All of the messages in the folders that I moved from Outlook to Mail are marked as unread. I must have 1,000 marked messages. Is there a way that I can select a folder and then globally removed thed blue unread message mark?

Unfortunately, there is no way to select them all at once to delete them. You do have to select one at a time.

All mail is marked as unread following iOS 7 install.  How do I fix that?

Ignore my last question.  This was entirely user inflicted.
The count that shows on the mail icon on the iPad shows the number of email in the "New" folder on my AOL account.  Some of these are emails that I read and then marked as unread.  In the previous versions, these "read and then marked as unread' emails did not show in the count on the iPad icon...but now they do.  Not a big deal...it's just different.
