Mail screen too big to see dashboard or toolbar

Somehow when on my email, the screen got so big that I can't access the dashboard or even the toolbar so I can't even start a new message, can't see the icon. The only way I can quit is not by pressing the red button (because I can't access it) but by control/q, then it seems as though the page slides away, I have looked up every  possible forum and can't work out what to do.  I've tried restarting but it's just the same. I am 62 and not very computer literate so don't get technical please.

I'm replying to my own question.  I pressed "escape" and it returned to normal.

  • Lock Screen too big to see swipe, so we can't 'open'!

The screen saver is showing - but about 10 times normal size, with the result that we can't see or use the swipe action.  We have tried re-booting (holding down start and home buttons, etc) but this does not resolve the problem.  Looks like she may have inadvertently increased the screen size and then allowed the iPad to lock.  It's my friend's iPad (90-yr old lady who got the it from her grandson) and she can't remember her Apple ID or anything so we haven't been able to contact Apple direct for advice on this.  We realise we may have to contact grandson and get him to make trip to Apple store - he lives distance - not sure he has access - yikes!  So just in case this is simple to resolve any help would be appreciated.

I Think that Zoom might be turned on.
Double tap the screen with three fingers and see if that returns the screen to normal size. While Zoom is turned on you can drag with three fingers to move around on the screen, but try tap with three fingers and if that reduces the screen, enter the passcode to unlock the iPad and go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Zoom>Off, if you want to turn it off for her.

  • Are 24" iMac Screens Too Big for regular tasks?

I'll be playing a lot of games and watching a lot of movies on my new iMac (reason I want 24") and I'll probably become more productive. But, does it get annoying or do you feel you have too much screen real estate when you do things like browse the web on a 24" iMac? I've browsed the web on a screen probably around 20"-22" at school and it seems pretty annoying to browse the web on it. I'd probably get used to the extra screen space, though. What're your opinions? Thanks!

No offense, but all I can think is that the only way it'd be too big is if you a beginner who only every has a single page / window of anything open.
    A few loose thoughts:
Once used to a big screen, you'll be very reluctant to return to a small one. Trust me. I was forced to move back from a 19" CRT to a 15" LCD at one point. Ugh. Ugh Ugh!
The screen is wide enough that you have to rotate your head to see it all if you're at typing distance (i.e. able to just touch the screen with an extended arm). If you're like me, working (long periods of time) with your head at an angle will cause problems; I developed a persistent shoulder muscle issue from this many years ago (in the days of the "dumb" terminals!) So if you're working on them all day, this may be something to watch out for--? In particular, note that the centre of the main typing portion of the keyboard is not the middle of the whole keyboard, but off to the left.
Wide, large, screens are excellent if you need to display things side-by-side, e.g. a webpage or PDF document and a word processor if you're researching material.
Of course, its also the "right" layout for DVDs too! Its not all work...

my screen is too dark to see - can see SOMETHING in background - but too dim.  I can plug into a charger and it gets normal brightness.  Sometimes it starts flashing crazily!  I am frustrated.  This phone is my third or fourth phone (lost track) and all have been manufacturing problems.  HELP!

  • Ipad icons too big to see full screen after updating to IOS 8?

I have an IPAD Retina (4th generation) and after I updated to IOS 8, it worked fine for 2 or 3 days. Yesterday my screen went too large to display the full screen (icons are also large). When I open an app, everything is large. I tried changing the font seize but no change. I rebooted my ipad a great number of times, no change. I've searched Google but I haven't seen anyone talking about this problem. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Should it happen again double tap the screen with three fingers. Then go to settings> general> accessibility> zoom> off.

  • Mail window too big

(I am trying to solve this for my mom over the phone as she is 2 hours away from me, but am stumped. She has never used a computer before now, but I am not that much better)
She says she was typing a reply to an email within Mail and guesses that she must have inadvertantly hit something and everything all of the sudden turned huge and when she closes out, her stamp disappeared from the dock. It is not a re-sizing issue as I had her try the green button and the lower left resizing corner. I had her replace the mail stamp in her dock and re-start her computer, but apparently when she opens mail, it still has a huge window. Any ideas? I know this probably isn't much information, but I can pump her for more if anyone has any obvious ideas. I can't imagine what key would've caused such a mis-hap.
    thanks,
    jpenn
p.s. i had her put a COPY of mail back in the dock by option dragging, so it wouldn't remove mail out of her applications folder. was that right?

    OK. thanks on the alias.
zoom is off in universal access.
more info from her: when she opens mail, for a split second she sees a glimpse of the inbox and then the big reply message (she had previously started when it happened) appears. It covers the entire screen, but the left side is completely cut off, so she cannot view the red, yellow and green buttons at the top left. When she tries to move it side to side, it will not budge. If she tries to re-size it from the bottom right corner, it bounces back full screen minus the left side.

If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.
Click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave full screen mode or right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press the F11 key.

  • Font name too big to see

Hi, i'm using Acrobat X1 on Mac OSX Mavericks
I have some large font families with long names but i can't see the full name in the drop down in the content editing section, and there doesn't seem to be away to expand the toolbar to make them fully visible. Even if I hover over the full name isn't revealed.
Is there anything I can do to make the font name more visible as this is really slowing me down.
    Cheers

  • Screen Too Big

I plug in my iPod Nano, load up iTunes, and click on IPOD under Devices.
Since I bought my iPod earlier today, this is the first time I've used it. I click Register Later, and the agreement screen appears. I scroll to the bottom, but...
I can only see the Cancel and Save buttons. There is no horizontal scroll bar, and the Continue button is off the screen. Additionally, there are words going off the page.
    Here's a picture:

  • GDM resolution/virtual screen too big

Well, I got GDM to load on bootup, but whenever it loads, it has the resolution too high and I get a virtual screen  , it's starting to get on my nerves scrolling around the screen. I want the resolution to 1024x768 but it's way too high(hmm, my graphics card supports it though, damn x.org). Can anyone tell me how to do this?
    NOTE: I already tried gdm.conf

Try the X config - in xfree86 it's XF86Config in /etc/X11 but I don't remember its name in x.org - the format is the same though. You should have a screen config section inside - something like this:
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "MonitorPhilips"
    Device "NvidiaGeForce4MX440"
    Monitor "Philips109MP"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 8
    Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 16
    Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection
    Subsection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection
    EndSection
You can remove 1280x1024 and you should have 1024x768 (of course names at the begining of the section must be as in your config :-) just change the display subsections).
EDIT: it should probably be xorg.conf

  • My email page is too big to see the Apps along the bottom.  How do I make the page smaller?

    this is recent, I believe.

It is not ordinarily possible to expand a window to cover the Dock (which I assume is what you're referring to as "the apps along the bottom"), and if you drag a window to overlap the dock, it will go behind the Dock and not over it. I suspect what you have done is enter full screen mode. Is the menu bar at the top of the screen also missing? If so, either press command-control-F or move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen (which should make the menu bar reappear) and click the blue box with arrows in it at the right edge of the menu bar. Either of these actions will exit full screen mode.

  • My iPad standard window is bit too big for the screen.

My iPad screen unexpectedly got slightly too big for the display window. The size is bit too big. For example, the keyboard when it pops up does not fully display all tkey sans. Another example is the time/power remaining bar slips out of sight.  Did I accidentally change something?  Is this an issue with version of iOS that I am using (4.3.3)? (Note I'm not talking about resizing by using your fingers.)

    John,
I am having the same problem.  The enlargement is not the same as the 3 finger tap or the 2 finger zoom.  The screen opens and then bumps to a slightly larger screen just enough to make it too big to see the outer edges.  You can put 3 fingers on the screen and move the screen to see the edges but you cannot get it to shrink to the correct size.  This is the second time this has happened to me.  I am also having some other issues.  Sometimes while in an app the app will close and I will be diverted to the home screen.  And sometimes when playing "with Friends games" the letters on the letterboard (not the key pad) disappear, will not move or are giant.  I plan on taking it back to the Apple store this week but I hate the idea of having to start over.

  • Display too big!

Display prob: Suddenly the display (menus, etc.) is magnified so much I can't see the whole screen, too big to be able to scroll side to side, can't un-zoom. Assume I'm doing something to make it happen.  Any ideas to prevent? or to fix short of powering off?  Thx!

Thank you!  Didn't know about the 3-finger trick!  Now that I know, I'm leaving Zoom on in Settings-Accessibility.  (Couldn't get to that in menu while it was so big.)
    Thanks to all who replied.

  • Sharp 26 inch HDTV too big for TiBook?

I have a Sharp 26 inch LCD HDTV. I am running DVI output from the 667 TiBook into the HDMI video input. It works OK, but the margins of the video are hidden under the edges of the LCD. So for example, I can only see about 1/4 of the Dock because the rest is hidden. As a result, I can only run it as a second monitor.
What's causing it? Is the screen too big for the TiBook's video driver?

    http://support.apple.com/specs/macbook/macbookmid2007.html
"...Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 by 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors..."
What is the max resolution of the HDTV? You should consider the Apple mini-DVI to DVI adapter and use a DVI-HDMI cable if your HDTV has an HDMI or DVI input, generally the digital signal might be better quality than the VGA analog signal.
You want to be able to match the native resolution of the monitor for best quality. When you use a different resolution, it may be supported but not appear as sharp. It might be hard to get good text quality on that large a monitor, but images and video might work okay.
If you want, you can also run an audio cable from the MacBook lineout to use the TV or your stereo speakers.
