Mail stops receiving messages after a period of time

Every since installing Mavericks my Mail app stops receiving messages after a period of time. I know because I get the email on my phone, but I try to grab them in Mail and nothing. If I restart Mail then they come through.
I'm using Gmail as my email provider. Is anyone else suffering with this? Is there a work around?

Workaround or not, this is an annoyance, and that's a nice way of putting it. Coming from Mountain Lion, when Mail was working flawlessly, having to deal with this issue is just plain ridiculous. What happened to the Mail application? I don't understand how Apple could screw this up to badly.
Every time I restart or reset the connection to the servers, the Mail app is downloading thousands of messages (I can see the display on the bottom-left). I have no idea what it's doing or why, for that matter. If Apple doesn't fix this soon, I will seriously be forced to look for an alternative, which saddens me greatly. I really like Mail, but if it cannot reliably get my mail simply because I've left it open too long, or hidden it behind another window, I will stop using it.
What's worse is that I've had similar issues with other applications like iPhoto and iTunes. Whatever is happening to Mail is probably not just application-specific. It's probably OS-specific. I hope Apple is working on it and that we will see a major update to Mavericks soon. All I know is that, right now, I'm seriously regretting upgrading to Mavericks.

  • Firefox stops working properly after a period of time

    btw, I can't type in this box. I'm typing this in another program and pasting it in.
    Using Firefox 5. I just installed Lion yesterday for Mac, but this problem occurred even before I did so. After a period of time, FF stops working properly. I notice it when I try to open a new tab. It won't switch to the new tab and the screen turns blue. If I type in a web address, it looks like it tries to go there, but it doesn't. When I look at any other already open tab, it has the blue screen. I have to restart to get my proper web pages back.

    Whenever I click on "More System Details" there are several things I hope I won't see. Your Conduit Engine is one of them. It is malware by any reasonable definition and a cause of major problems with Firefox.
    Google for information and advice as to how to get rid of it. Someone may come along with more specific advice..
    If things aren't perfect after that you could do some straightforward troubleshooting(Safe Mode, Problematic Extensions, Hardware Acceleration etc) - in default theme -

  • Mail stops receiving messages and then stops responding

    I have been using mail for over a year now with no major issues, until now. When I open mail it appears to open fine, and then it automatically starts taking the accounts online. The progress bar shows that there are 200+ messages to receive, and it shows the data rate at about 100ish kb/sec. Once it hits around 60 "received messages" of the 200+ the data rate consistently starts dropping until goes to 0 kb/sec and I can no longer take any accounts on line or even quit mail. The program responds reasonably well, but when I select "quit mail" the window will disappear, but the program will not quit. The only way I can stop it is to force quit. The accounts I use are pop3 and gmail accounts. I thought that maybe it was one account that was messing me up so I removed the accounts systematically and none of them are working properly. I also have been using wireless, so I connected via ethernet, but the issue persists. Any help is appreciated.

    Exact same problem here. I tried moving the index file to the desktop and reopening mail. It rebuilds fine but then this problem starts again. It is only with one account, a pop3 account. Gmail works fine. I've deleted all mail in that account via webmail. It still hangs even though there are 0 mails to receive. The indicator shows it is still trying - and that will go on forever. Quitting just like movie_man describes.
    Disabling that account solves the problem - but reenabling it brings it back.
    I have the accounts sync'd with iPod touch and another home Mac. It has worked fine for years and then this, suddenly.

  • Mail stops receiving messages

    I'm having an odd problem with Mail in Mavericks that I haven't experienced in earlier releases of OS X.
    On occasion, every few days, Mail will stop polling for new messages. I'll discover new messages have arrived by glancing at my iPhone and noticing that I may have several messages from several different mail servers all waiting for me. I'll then go back to OS X Mail and click the Get New Mail Messages button and suddenly they all show up.
    These messages had been queued up on the two different IMAP servers, including iCloud, hours earlier but Mail simply didn't receive them.
    I have tried chaning the "Check for new messages" preferences to Every Minute, instead of Automaticatically, but that hasn't helped.
    I noticed that Use IDLE is checked by default for both IMAP servers. Is that the problem?
    Thanks for any advice,
    George

  • Mail won't quite without "force quite" , Mail stops receiving emails after a while, not happy about MAIL's performance!!!! :(

    I have massive problems with Mail.
    I use mail at work and have 3 accounts running
    1. Mac. mail account
    2. Gmail mail account
    3. Exchange Server
    I have quite a few folders in my accounts where I have to archive my emails to.
    Often very often or lets say annoyingly too often mail stops working.
    - stops receiving emails
    - emails I have put away in folders disapear in my inbox again
    - if I try to quite Mail it won't I have to force it and then when I open it again all my emails I was working on open again even so I have sent them already.Also all the emails I have folded away are back in my inbox WHAT A WAIST OF TIME!!
    I AM VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT MAILS PERFORMANCE AT THE MOMENT! IT SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK!
    Does anyone have the same problems and more importantly does anyone has a solution to this problem other then switching to Outlook???
    Thank you!
    Oliver

    I have the "stops receiving mail" problem with Exchange.  Sometimes I can open up the Activty window in Mail and stop  the stuck processes. Other times I have to close then reopen Mail.  I usually do the latter. A fix would be nice.
    I wonder if your other problems are related to this. The actual process of relocating your messages is maybe queued up behind one of the stuck processes. Just guessing. I have not had that problem.

  • Custom agent stops receiving events after long period

    What would cause a custom agent to stop receiving events?
    I have two custom agents that register to listen for events from PublicObject. These agents run along with some custom timed-based agents in a ServerManager instance.
    After about eight days, events are not being sent to the custom agents. The timed-based agents run fine after this period.
    I have observed that if the CUPServer is running this will stop events being sent to the custom agents. The CUPServer was not running for the above case.

    I can't think of anything that would cause that.
    Do you want to post your code, and see if anyone detects any problems?

  • Mail stops importing messages after 32 messages - HELP

    Everytime I try and get my mail it downloads the messgaes but when it gets to the magic 32nd email it gets hung up. I veen deleted the suspicious email on the server and still when it gets to 32 it gets stuck. I tried entourage and it gets the messages no problem. Should I reinstall mail? if so how or any other suggestions (Cache etc)

    This is a problem for which I've yet not found a solution when it happens. Another user recently reported being able to solve it by deleting some caches. Problem is, I have no idea what caches could have a bearing on this. If you want to try that, take a look at the following article:
    Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
    and be sure to read this in particular:
    Side effects of System cache cleaning
    In addition to the utilities mentioned there, you may also consider OnyX or Cache Out X, which are free.
    Rather than blindly deleting every cache from your system, I encourage you to be somewhat selective, in order to be able to find out which cache could be involved in the problem, if any. Note that no applications other than the cache-cleaning utility should be running during the cache-cleaning operation, and that you should restart after each attempt before checking whether it makes a difference. Please, post back with your observations.

  • How to stop refreshing jsp after a period of time

    Dear all,
    Anyone has idea of how to stop jsp page refreshing after I get result from Backend?
    I am using META tag to do refreshing in jsp: HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="60
    After I got the result from back end, say after there's a "status" bean property changed from "processing" to
    "successful".The refreshing activity is disabled?Any good way to do that?

    Why don't you use listener to listen to changed events within your application and set you refresh status flag up when changes occur

  • SysIntr stops being triggered after a period of time

    Hi,
    I am developing a driver for the AM335x processor in Windows Embedded Compact 2013 which uses an ISR triggered by a SysIntr.
    I'm using the following code to intialize the interrupt
    pDevice->device = AM_DEVICE_DCAN1;irq[0] = (DWORD) -1;
    irq[1] = OAL_INTR_STATIC;
    irq[2] = GetIrqByDevice(pDevice->device,NULL);pDevice->hIntrEvent = CreateEvent(NULL, FALSE, FALSE, NULL);KernelIoControl(IOCTL_HAL_REQUEST_SYSINTR,irq,sizeof(irq),&pDevice->dwSysintr,sizeof(pDevice->dwSysintr),NULL);
    InterruptInitialize(pDevice->dwSysintr,pDevice->hIntrEvent,NULL,0);
    The ISR contains the following function
    dwRet = WaitForSingleObject(pDevice->hIntrEvent, 10000);
    The interrupt works fine for a few hours, then all of a sudden it stops being fired.
    I know that the ISR is still running because the dwRet == WAIT_TIMEOUT condition is met.
    The device I am using is DCAN1 and I know that the hardware is still functioning because the system is still regularly transmitting data through the CAN bus.
    I have tried to write some code to re-initialize the SysIntr which executes when the WAIT_TIMEOUT condition is met:
    ResetEvent(pDevice->hIntrEvent);
    InterruptDone(pDevice->dwSysintr);
    InterruptDisable(pDevice->dwSysintr);
    if (KernelIoControl(IOCTL_HAL_RELEASE_SYSINTR, &pDevice->dwSysintr, sizeof(pDevice->dwSysintr), NULL, 0, NULL)){
    Sleep(1000);
    DWORD irq[3];
    irq[0] = (DWORD)-1;
    irq[1] = OAL_INTR_STATIC;
    irq[2] = GetIrqByDevice(pDevice->device, NULL);
    if ((irq[2] == (DWORD)-1))
    RETAILMSG(ZONE_ERROR, (L"ERROR: CAN_ISR: unable to get the interrupts %u, Device %u\r\n", irq[2], pDevice->device));
    // Request a SYSINTR for DCAN
    if (KernelIoControl(IOCTL_HAL_REQUEST_SYSINTR, irq, sizeof(irq), &pDevice->dwSysintr, sizeof(pDevice->dwSysintr), NULL) == FALSE)
    RETAILMSG(ZONE_ERROR, (L"ERROR: CAN_ISR: unable to request a SYSINTR\r\n"));
    if (pDevice->hIntrEvent)
    CloseHandle(pDevice->hIntrEvent);
    // Initialize Interrupts
    if (InterruptInitialize(pDevice->dwSysintr, pDevice->hIntrEvent, NULL, 0) == FALSE)
    RETAILMSG(ZONE_ERROR, (L"ERROR: CAN_ISR: unable to initialize the interrupt\r\n"));
    else
    RETAILMSG(ZONE_ERROR, (L"ERROR: CAN_ISR: unable to release SYSINTR\r\n"));
    This code fails upon calling the InterruptInitialize() function.
    I'm doing some stress testing so there is a lot of data throughput (every few ms I send a frame) but this shouldn't mean that the interrupt stops firing.
    Has anyone had a similar issue?
    Is anyone here familiar with using the sysintr for DCAN1 on the AM335x processor?
    Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong when I try to reinitialize the interrupts?
    Thanks.

    Yes, I've seen the same on iMX53 with WEC2013 (problem does not occur on WEC7).
    I found that calling InterruptDone once more fixes the issue. This seems to be a problem in the WEC2013 kernel where the interrupt does not get unmasked, but so far I haven't been able to reproduce in our iMX6 BSP and I haven't done enough deep investigation
    to say this is a kernel issue for sure.
    Funny enough I also saw the issue first when doing CAN stress testing on iMX53/WEC2013, but have also been able to reproduce later with a simple GPT interrupt. Same tests runs fine on WEC7 (exactly the same BSP and test code, except some assembly code diffs
    in the BSP between WEC7/8).
    Good luck,

    I can't understand my Icloud mail behavior.All messages I sent are stored in sent box as usual whereas messages I receive are disappearing after short period of time (no more then 2 weeks).Why does it happen?Do I have any chance to restore them?

  • Durable Subscriber Stops Receiving Messages

    We have a durable subscriber using an asynchronous listener that randomly stops receiving messages. After the application is restarted, messages delivery is re-activated. When the durable subscriber is in this state (where messages are not being delivered), the JMX Mbean "isActive" attributes is true. There are other durable subscribers on this same destination that receive messages as expected.
    Has anyone observed this behavior for a durable subscription?

    What is the MQ version shown at beginning of the broker log ? Could you please give more description of your application and what the subscriber clients do ?
