Mail syncing question

Hi,
the scenario is this:
On my macbook, 10.6, one of the POP accounts is acting strange. It's a BT internet account. Symptoms are it starts to download messages and just gets stuck. Also duplicates are appearing. I've tried deleting the message from the server via webmail, and recreating the account. The messages do reach the iPhone no problem.
So , i'm assuming that there's something lurking inside "My home directory"/Library/Mail.
I'm going to delete this Mail folder, along with Mail preferences.
The question is, can i sync the accounts (one bt internet, the other @me.com) from my iPhone / ipod to the Macbook via either MobileMe or iTunes?
Am i right in thinking that you can sync accounts from a desktop / laptop Mac to an iPhone / iPod, but you can't do the reverse?
Many thanks in advance.

The +iPod touch+ doesn't offer Mail syncing. All it does is sync the account details. Emails are downloaded separately when you next get a suitable WiFi connection.

  • Mail sync question - does it do this?

    Hi.
I have read the iphone user guide and I am unsure of something.
When Mail is downloaded to my iPhone, what happens if I dont delete them from the phone?
a: Will the mails be deleted from the phone once I have connected the iphone to the Mac and it syncs with the Mail on the Mac once it has downloaded them?
b: Will the mails stay on the iPhone after they have been downloaded to the Mac Mail?
c: Will mail be both on the Mac and the iPhone, which means I have to manually delete them from the iPhone?
    Thanks
    Glenn

Ok I have answered my own question.
iPhone does not sync mail items - only the mail box settings.
I need to set up an IMAP system to do this.

  • Mail sync question

3G doesn't sync with Mail app properly, so it would seem.
On my Mac, I save many messages moved to other folders.
Should I expect to see these other folders on the iPhone or not?
Perhaps I'm going about Syncing the Mail wrong?

The option under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences for syncing email accounts is for transferring email account settings from your Mac to your iPhone so you don't have to manually create an email account with the iPhone's mail client. This does not sync mailboxes or messages - it transfers email account settings only and is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone.
With an IMAP account, all server stored mailboxes are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. This is not possible with a POP account.

  • Mail sync question for iPhone & Macbook

Does iphone sync with mail on the macbook, to delete messages that are unwanted? or do i have to essentially handle those twice, once when viewing mail on my phone, and then again when I am on my computer?

The phone itself does not sync mail at all, just the settings for the accounts.
If you set up the account as IMAP, then deleting on the phone will delete from the server, which will mirror to the macbook (or however IMAP works).
If you set up the account as POP, then you'll have to handle each email twice.

Topic area: Apple Mail.  Question:  How do I get the message preview window to display to the right of my list of email messages? i.e. to preview whatever message is currently highlighted in the center window list of messages?

At present there is no preference option available to move the preview
pane to right side of the mail window.
    Best.

As Bob says, any iMap service can do this. GMail can, iCLoud mail can too.
Both of these can be used with Mail on any device.

  • Mail sync issue with new iPod Touch

I have been unable to successfully perform an initial mail sync using my new iPod Touch 32 GB with Version 3.1.1.
All is being successfully sync'd with the exception of mail. The error box when I click on mail with the iTouch reads - "Cannot Get Mail - The connection to the server mail.me.com failed"
I have an active .Mac account. I can successfully log into "mobileme" via my G5 1.8 dual running OS X 10.5.8. My cable web provider is Comcast in the Middle TN area.
Thanks in advance with any suggestions.

I found my "issue" is not an issue when I was able to access WiFi. The touch downloaded my messages! I was naively "assuming" that the initial setup via iTunes would have provided my initial message download.
Marking this "false alarm" as solved. I'll avoid "jumping the gun" on my next hurdle.

  • FCP Sound Syncing Question

    Hey Everyone,
I have an audio syncing question for you. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am cutting in FCP. I logged and captured my footage and with timecode breaks, etc. the tape was cut up, and I was left with eight files, let's call them Footage1-Footage8. I have completed my cut of the piece using the in-camera audio that was linked to the video on the DV tape that I imported. Our sound guy in the field used a DAT recorder to record the production audio and apparently captured the timecode to the audio files, so that it matches the video (i.e. the DAT recorder and our cameras - DVX-100s had synced timecode during the shoot). The DVD he gave me has 20 audio files as .wav, let's call them Audio1-Audio20. My question is, now that I have finished my cut, I would like to replace the current audio tracks with the production audio. How can I sync the audio with the video and replace it in what I've cut. Or perhaps I can't, in which case - how can I sync them up and THEN cut, but I'd really rather have to not do that, lol!
    Thanks for your advice!

Sorry about the long winded post, though.
I guess my real question, summarized is - is there a way to sync separately recorded production audio (that has timecode) with the footage that I shot (that has the same timecode as the audio, but also has in camera audio that accompanies the video track - I would imagine I can just "cut" the extra audio tracks, however).
I'm at my bay trying to figure this out, and I've got nothing, and the people I work for don't want to spring for that bwf2xml program you were talking about What's the emote for pulling one's hair out?

  • I have Yahoo Mail synced on my new macbook pro. Keeps asking for password

I have Yahoo Mail synced on my new macbook pro. It it consistently asking to re-enter the password. Does anyone else have this problem? I have deleted it and reinstalled it several times. It did not do this on my previous macbook.

Does anyone else have this problem?
There are several similar reports on this site every day.
I've never used Yahoo mail and my knowledge of it is second-hand. This is what I've been able to gather.
If you have a free Yahoo account, POP access to incoming mail from a mail client such as Apple Mail is not supported. A free account is accessible only through IMAP (and then perhaps only on mobile devices — the documentation is unclear) or the web interface.
As for a paid Yahoo account, or an account through an ISP such as AT&T, you must enable POP access through the web interface. I've seen reports that you must periodically (every two weeks?) log in to the "Manage Account" page on the website to confirm your identity.
I've also seen reports that eliminating all UPPER CASE letters from the password, and shortening it to no more than 7 characters, may help. That's barely, if at all, adequate for security, and you must be sure to choose the password randomly. It should not be easy to type or remember.
That said, so many problems with Yahoo mail are reported that I can't recommend using Mail as a client for it. You might get better results with another mail client, such as Thunderbird. If not, just use the webmail interface. That's how it was designed to work. Better yet, don't use Yahoo at all.

  • .Mac Sent Mail Sync

I just imported all my mail and accounts from Thunderbird into Mail.app. Additionally, I set up my new .Mac account. I moved all the old e-mails into the program, inbox for inbox, sent into sent, etc. Even after turning off the sync Sent message folder with server in the .Mac account settings, it still insists on uploading all of my old sent messages from the other accounts (thousands of e-mails). The only way I can get Mail to respond quickly and smoothly is to delete the account, otherwise it just hangs it up uploading messages I don't want it to. How can I stop this behavior?

This is normal behaviour of iMap account. When turning off Mail syncing in .Mac preferences, you just turn of the syncing of account information.
However, configured IMAP accounts (as .Mac is) will still continue to get synced, as all the information is being stored server side and messages can not be moved without syncing. This is not a restriction of .Mac, but architecture of the IMAP.
You can, however, manually set up your .Mac mail account to use the POP3 instead.

  • Os x mail sync problem

    Hi
I'm using icloud in my PC, iphone, ipad and mac (OS x mountain lion).
Everything works smooth execpt mail sync in mac osx mail client does not work properly..
From some reason, the mail client does not sync with other devices and any mail that I download with osx mail client is showed as unread (though in other devices it shown as read). The same goes with flagged mail (even if you unflagged it in other devices - spacially on PC - it still shown as flagged in mail although it is shown as unflagged in all other devices including icloud web site).
Anyone has any idea how to fix it?

On the Mac, open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Mail then reselect it.
Reset iCloud on your PC as well.
And on the iPhone and iPad, tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Mail off then back on.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.

  • Is there someway to disable the Outlook sync process when I hook up to my computer?  I don't mind the AOL e-mail sync, but do not want or need the Outlook contacts/e-mail sync.

With the phone connected, go to the info tab for the phone in iTunes. That's where you specify what contacts, calendars, e-mail accounts, etc. to sync and to what applications.

  • Phone, iMac, Laptop sync question.

My iPhone, iMac, and Macbook (both running Yosemite) are all synched via the Cloud. I knew that when I deleted recently received mail messages on my phone, they would then be deleted (i.e. not download from the server) when I opened mail on my desktop computer (and vice versa). I recently discovered that old message that I want to keep (even in sub Mailboxes) on my desktop Mac, are being deleted if I delete them on my phone. I sometimes do this because I don't want to use up space on my phone, but some these messages are important to be archived, saved, on my desktop Mac.
So what is the process to be able to delete messages on my phone, but make sure they are saved on the desktop Mac if I have moved them to Mailboxes. Does it involve turning off Mail sync via the Cloud on the iMac? Or "archiving" the messages I want to save on the iMac?
    Thanks for any advice.

Save them to an 'On My Mac' folder.

  • Exchange Mail Sync and Battery Life (PLEAE HELP)

I looked through the threads and could not find an answer but did discover people are having issues with Mail sync for Exchange.
I have a N9 WITHOUT PR1.1 (does not show update is available)
Syncing to Small Business Exchange Server 2003
I am NOT having issues  being able to sync (contacts, mail, calendar) but no matter which sync schedule I choose, it always shows the phone trying to sync with the server. It will update sometimes but then immediatly go back to an active transfer and will just run until something new comes in. I have tried all the sync schedule settings and it will still always show an active sync transfer.
I am assuming there is a problem, as my battery died within 4 hours (without being used).
Does this make sense? Anyone else having this issue?

I too have had this problem with battery depletion. Phone is N9 64gb black, previously running Starhub version of firmware and updated to Central Europe OEM version, "DFL61_HARMATTAN_20.2011.40-4_PR_LEGACY_001-OEM1-958_ARM.bin". Firmware updated with no issues and phone works great except for email. If I add an email account, "other" or "exchange", then phone gets mail and calendar on first sync but then hangs on subsequent syncs. Then the phone will not get mail or any other info from mail server and constantly checks or tries to sync. Eventually the battery is depleted by the middle of the day after beginning the day fully charged. The only way I could stop the active sync process is to delete the account or turn the phone off and back on again.

  • Questions about e-mail sync etc...

    Hi,
I will be setting up a new Palm Pre Plus Verizon phone soon but had a couple of questions to make sure I now what's possible.
    1) Is it possible to sync only the Calendar / Contacts from Microsoft Exchange but not the e-mail (work account)?  Can the same be done for other accounts (google, yahoo, etc...)?
    2) If not, can the Calendar/Contacts be set to automatically download but the e-mail be set for manual control (downloaded by user action only) thus choosing never to download?
    3) If so, can those preferences be set differently per individual account (Exchange vs Google vs Yahoo etc...)?
Also...I've seen several Palm reps on the posts suggesting users check out homebrew / 3rd party opportunities to customize their phones even though Palm doesn't "support them.  Can I get an overall take on whether this is a good idea or not?  Do you run the risk of ruining / breaking your phone using those types of 3rd party solutions (I would assume not if your reps are suggesting to look there...)?
Thanks very much for any input.
    FVP

    Hi,
Thank you so much, you've been a big help.
Would it be possible to bother you (or anyone in the know) with more complicated questions I've been facing trying to set up the palm?
I understand about how to Exchange (and control e-mail).
I still have questions though, on e-mail / contact setup.
My questions revolve around multiple accounts from the same place, and also AIM buddy control (and multiple AIM accounts).
Basically...is it a problem to pull in multiple Gmail accounts for example (more than 1)?  I use 2 different Gmail accounts (one for my friends / family, and one for work)?  That along with the Exchange acount?
As for AIM...I also have two AIM accounts I use (one for friends / family, one when working).  when I created both accounts, they sort of merged, and both stayed on (I wasn't able to control signing one off, keeping one on at a time)?  Am I just not finding the right settings?
Also...the contacts list was a disaster after bringing in the AIM accounts.  Even after deleting the accounts (because I couldn't get them to work right), the screennames stayed in my contacts list, and when I try to delete them (swipe away, choose delete) they say AIM profiles can't be deleted...even though the account is deleted.  Am I missing something??
I read in the manual, you are supposed to be able to stop contacts from feeding from certain accounts by choosing the menue / prerences / selecting the account / stopping the sync....but that wasn't even an option as the only "account" listed in preferences is the Palm account.
I'm just terribly confused on how to set things up and what can be controlled.  Thanks for any help you can provide (or a place I can go for this assistance).
    Thanks!
