Mail wants to reply from a different address

I have a Smart Folder set up to collect all of my incoming email from a certain group of work associates. Lately, over the last couple of months or so, whenever I hit reply to any of the emails in this group, it wants to send the reply from my personal email account instead of my work email account, which is the address that the emails were sent to. I only have this problem when replying to anyone in this smart folder. If I reply to any other emails it always replies from the address which the email was sent to. Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a possible fix? I've had it set up this way for years but it's never been an issue until just recently.

There can be a solution if there’s enough interest. See http://gjg.gd/sa4ip and let me know if you’re interested.

  • Mountain Lion Mail - Replying From Wrong Email Address

    Hello-
In Mountain Lion Mail, when I click reply to an email, the FROM filed is the same account the email was sent to.
If I have a rule applied to a message that delivers it to a different folder when it arrives, if I click reply, it uses my default email address, and not the email address the message was sent to.
To be clear, if I hit reply to a message that doesn't have a rule applied, then the action works fine, and it uses the email address it was sent to.
The problem only happens when I have an incoming email routed to a different folder in Mail, based on a set rule in preferences.
Driviing me crazy of course. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I reported this problem to Applecare and reached a CPU Senior Technical Advisor (2nd level support), who was able to duplicate the problem.  He reported the problem to Engineering, which got back to him with the following information:
Engineering was aware of the problem
No decision had been made regarding when or if the bug will be fixed.
He suggested that I also report the problem to <http://www.apple.com/feedback/>, which I have done.
I would like to suggest that the other poster to this thread also report the problem through the feedback page (pick the Mac OS X option and select Mail on the feedback form).  The more people who report this, the sooner Apple is likely to fix it.
Here is what I wrote in part: "The reply function does not work properly in Mac OS X Mail when I reply from any mailbox other than Inbox.  When I reply to an e-mail that is in any other mail box other than Inbox, Mail selects the default e-mail account to put into the "From" field instead of the e-mail account to which the original e-mail was sent.  This worked properly in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is broken in Mountain Lion."  I also gave the Case # of my report to Applecare.

  • Is anyone else having issues with their mail , where the reply from the person you just contacted contains very old emails from a different contact ?

Is anyone else having issues with their mail , where the reply from the person you just contacted contains very old emails from a different contact ?

I mean that I sent an email to a contact of mine yesterday. His reply contained a stream of very old emails I had received in 2009 from a totally different contact all together !! The reply email was in my inbox as being from the original person I sent the email to. This is starting to happen more regularly now , so is a problem !

  • I cannot open my e-mail, make a reply, or access my address book in Firefox.

In Firefox I can call up my e-mails which I access from Comcast, but when I try to open them they will not respond to the usual double-click, and if I want to reply, I cannot access the reply page. Nor can I access my address book. I do not have this problem using Internet Explorer or Thunderbird. However, I much prefer Firefox over these options. Any ideas as to what is causing this problem will be welcomed.

  • HT1349 how do I change the email contacts I want to sink from a different email than the one listed on itunes?

I am trying to sync my iphone and itunes is preset to an email account with no contact. I want to switch to a different email account to sync to but can't find a way to change the email already listed. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Transferring email account settings via the iTunes sync/transfer process has nothing to do with syncing contacts direct with a supported address book app on your computer if this is what you are referring to.
If you have an email account that supports syncing contacts over the air, you can manually create the email account with the iPhone's Mail app. This is supported with a Yahoo account, Gmail account, an Apple iCloud account, and with an Exchange account. A Hotmail account can now be accessed as an Exchange account with the iPhone's Mail app.

  • Forwarding one iCloud email to another & replying from the correct address

I have 2 iCloud accounts and to make things easier for me, I want to forward one to the other, which I am aware how to do. However, when I hit "reply" to an email, the address showing is the address I am "forwarding to", NOT the address the email was initially sent to. Is there a way to change/fix this, so that when I press "reply" it will automatically reply from what ever email address it was sent to?
    Thanks for any help!

First, turn everything off for iCloud...contacts, calendars, FaceTime, iMessage, notes, Find My Phone, etc. You'll be prompted to keep the data on your phone or delete it...select keep. Then: Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, set everything back up using your new ID.

  • Incoming message matches multiple accounts, mail chooses wrong reply-from

I have 2 email accounts for my daughters, daughter A has [email protected] and daughter B has [email protected]
They are both set up with their own account on Apple mail.
Often, mails arriving are addressed to them both. They arrive fine, each receiving a copy in their inbox.
If daughter A reads it in her inbox and hits reply, Mail chooses the correct reply-from address ([email protected])
However, if daughter B reads it in her inbox and hits reply, Mail chooses the incorrect reply-from address ([email protected])
Sometimes it is vice-versa - the choice is determined by the first listed recipient in the original mail.
Anyone know how to fix this ? - aside from having to pay attention to the reply-from dropdown every time.
    Thanks
    Paul

If using one User account, but multiple email accounts, and a message is received addressed to two or more of those email accounts, then Mail will choose the address that is listed first in the Distribution list in the To Header. Furthermore, a Reply All will exclude all addresses in that list that are also setup in accounts in that User Account.

  • Mail bouncing/filtering emails from a known address

Hi, I have a problem with Mail 5.1 filtering emails from a known email address (in my Address Book).
If I get several emails from the same address, one after another, normally the third or fourth one is put in the junk folder, even though Mail is set to leave all mail in my inbox!
If I turn off junk filtering, the mail is bounced back to the sender.
Any ideas? It's annoying as I don't always see the email in the Junk folder.
    Thanks

    Thanks for your time.
Under SCOT " * " is stated so I think that is not an issue and yes  xyz=abc.com is a valid domain address and mails are succesfully sent and received via Microsoft Outlook.
And, RFC Connection is fine as when tested.
SMICM = SMTP Service exist and port number as 0.
But to remind, if I send mail from xyz=abc.com to pqr=abc.com the mail is not received at Outlook but under SOST, the status is fine and indicates it is sent.
Mail is not been sent FROM same domain TO the same domain.
As, if i send mail from xyz=abc.com to samplename=mydomain.com the mail is sent and recieved succesfully
    Please help.

  • Mail.... from a college address?

I can't quite figure out how to sync my college e-mail address (@cnu.edu) to the iPad. I click on "other" when setting it up... but I don't understand what to fill-in?
    Help please!

    Using iOS 5.1.1
I created a CNU account on my iPhone doing the following:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Add Account > Gmail
fill out your info (name, e-mail, password, description--I named mine "CNU")
    save
    Check if it worked:
    Open "Mail"
Mailboxes: CNU (or whatever you typed as the description)
Try sending an e-mail, to see if it works.
    NOTE:
Using "Other" instead of "Gmail" to create an e-mail account does NOT work.
Settings > Mail > Add Account > Other
    Does not work
Note that you CAN keep your non-college mail separate from your CNU mail.
I used to forward my CNU e-mail to my Gmail account and it worked well for reading. But I disliked that when I replied to a student, the repply would appear with my Gmail address, thus mixing personal and school mail. Thank goodness for separate accounts!
    Finally:
Different from Gmail, whatever you do on your CNU account iPhone does get synchronizes with the server.
When you read and/or delete messages on your iPhone, they are also marked as "Read" or deleted on the server.
With Gmail, unless you set it up as IMAP (instructions here: http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/97300), the read and/or deleted messages will not be read/deleted on the server. What this means is that, when you log in your account from a computer (rather than from the iPhone), a message that you already read/deleted on the iPhone will appear as unread on the computer.

  • HOW DO I SEND AN EMAIL AND SHOW IT COMING FROM A DIFFERENT ADDRESS?

    Hi All.
I'm a newbie to the iMac, having taken receipt yesterday and currently trying to set up email - can anyone help please?
I have a business email address attached to my domain name that I like to appear on all emails I send and be the default address sent to once reply is hit.
This was easily achieved in in MS Outlook on my old desktop where the email was sent through a TalkTalk account, but showed my business email address, but so far does not appear possible in Mail.
I understand there are issues between TalkTalk and Apple, so have alternate accounts with BTInternet and Gmail, but cannot achieve the desired result with those either. Despite surfing the net for the best part of the day looking for answers I'm no further forward, can anyone shed light on a solution please?

In order for the "From" field to show you options on the "from" addresses available, you must set them up in the Preferences > Accounts first.
I can't show you a screen shot of the from field because I currently only have one account, so the from address used is the default. However, when I had more than one, then options will show up in your compose/reply window.
You'd need to add an account here:

  • Why does my google email address appear on emails I send from a different address on my iPad?

I have a number if email accounts on my iPad 2. Recently I have noticed that whichever account I send an email from if is received with my google email address so I get all responses to that address which isn't what I want! The google account is not set as my default account so I do not understand why this is happening. It is only a recent thing as I have previously been able to send emails from my default account and have that put in the sender line without any problem. At the moment the software is changing the sender address between me sending it (I have checked the from field in the email and it is always the address I want it to go from) and it actually being received by the recipient.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Look through the email account that is your default for sending. Make sure that you have set the correct outgoing mail server.

  • How do you make all outgoing mail on iPhone come from one default address?

I have multiple Apple devices which include laptop, iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s.  I use several email accounts for my business.  How do you make the default outgoing email address one the iPhones one email address like you can on the laptop?  I want the outgoing email address to be the same on all devices.

Thank you.  I think I got it for the 4 but not for the 4S.  In mail, contacts, calendars, do you choose default account?  Also, there does not appear to be a choice like this for the icloud.  How do you change the default on it?  The best I can see is icloud to account to advanced to mail to icloud account information.  On that screen there is a box that says allow sending from and the only choices you have are the icloud account and me account.  I do not see how to add another account if that is the right section.  I don't want the icloud or the me to be a return address.
    Thanks in advance.

  • TS3276 Why does my mail send an email from a different account form the one selected?

    Hi,
I have several email accounts configured in my mail app.
For no reason it started sending email from one of my accounts with another email address, so when people reply to my email (from a particular account) it goes to another inbox and I sometimes miss it.
    Any tips?

In Mail>Preferences>Accounts>you can set Each Mail account to "Use Only This Server" located at the lower right of the window below, which you specify once.  Then the Mail app will not have a choice of server available to pull those shenanigans.
    Hope this helps
