Mail Won't Open Since Updating to Mavericks

Since updating to Maverick's, I've been having trouble opening Mail. If I restart my computer, I am able to open it one time. Then if I close it, I can't reopen it without restarting the computer. If I try to open it, I get the spinning beach ball when I put my cursor on the info bar at the top of the screen and I have to Force Quit to get it to stop. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? I searched the forums and came up empty so if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate that too. I have updated my software to the most recent version, OS 10.9. I installed the Mail update, version 1.0, back in November. I am running on a 2.7Ghz Intel Core i5 iMac. Thanks in advance for any help.

A few weeks ago I got a pop up asking me to update mail. I did this but since then it won't open properly. It either freezes without any viewer window showing or a viewer window comes up but is completely blank. Anybody have any suggestions?

After newest update was refused, my mac mail will not open. Does anyone have any idea how to start up the mac mail or how I can fix the problem?

What update was 'refused'?
You state you are running 10.4.11 - there haven't been any updates since then.
If at first you don't succeed: try running the 10.4.11 combo installer again, and allow two restarts.

Mail won't open after upgrading to Mavericks

I upgraded to mavericks and now mail won't launch or open. It gives an error message: "The last time you opened Mail, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?:
When I try to reopen it comes back to the same error message. How do I fix this?

Try restoring Mail from a Time Machine backup prior to the Mavericks upgrade.
Hold down the Option key and pull down Go to Library.
Enter Time Machine.
Select a date and time.
Select Mail.
Restore.

Mail won't open since I tried to send an email with big attachment.

I have swiped Mail off the multi-tasking bar, I've restarted the iPad several times and have deleted the draft from my email account (going via the web). Mail still wont open...I figure the attachment was goo big and has crashed it. Can you help please?

a reset no data loss. hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait fro the ipad to boot back up.
If that doesn't work, delete and re add the email account.

Mail won't open since upgrade/updates

I installed Leopard today. Was having problems with Mail crashing before it even started up, so I updated to 10.5.1. Now, when I try to open Mail, I get the message "You cannot use the application "Mail" with this version of Mac OS X." Whassup? I thought Mail 3.1 was part of 10.5.1?! I've tried moving the Library/Mail/Envelope Index doc to the desktop and also tried moving Library/Mail/LSMMap2 to the desktop and restarting Mail. Even tried moving both docs to the desktop. Still not working! Any suggestions?

Can you run mail from a different account? just create an account and see if it works.
Also, what kind of e-mail account do you have? do you keep copies of your messages on the mail server? If so you might just want to trash the entire /Users/user/Library/Mail folder (or at least move it to the desktop) and recreate your mail account. This is a bit painful because you'll have to redownload all your messages but it should cure all your ills. If even this doesn't help, trash the file com.apple.Mail.plist which sits in Users/user/Library/Preferences.
Nuking this file will completely reset Mail for your user account.

Mail won't open after update

Why won't my mail open after OSX update? How do I get it going again? Thanks! Kent

I had the same problem - my Mail was in the wrong place, and the updater made an inoperable app file. Fortunately, I was able to re-install the update and get the new version of Mail working. I did the following:
1) downloaded the updater image file from Apple, It's called "SecUpd2012-004.dmg"
2) put my old Mail app in the Applications Folder, then
3) opened the disk image and ran the updater.
If you have your old Mail.app file (and App Store file), it should work.

E-mail won't send since updating software

Since I updated the software on my iPhone yesterday (don't think it's a coincidence!) I can't send e-mails on my iPhone from my AOL account, although I've never had problems before. The message I get is "Cannot send mail - the sender address was invalid" I can receive e-mails ok.
Does anybody have any suggestions please?

You're welcome.
The error message provided is not accurate. This usually means the internet service provider (ISP) being used for your internet connection at the time is blocking the SMTP server. Most, if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated. A cellular carrier's network is no exception.
I believe AOL has an authenticated SMTP server, so this shouldn't be a problem especially if it was working before unless something has changed recently in this regard which coincided with the firmware update. My email account (non-AOL account) has an authenticated SMTP, and I haven't experienced any problems sending with the account since installing the recent firmware update.
Are you also accessing your AOL account with an email client on your computer such as with Outlook or with Windows Mail? If so, any problems sending with the account with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account? Accessing/sending with the account via webmail access using a browser doesn't count since doing so does not use an SMTP server.
Just wondering if AOL is having a problem with their SMTP server.

Itunes Store won't open since update

So ever since I updated to ios 7, I cannot open the Itunes Store on my phone. It acts like it is going to load and then it just crashes. I have tried hard resetting my phone and it didn't solve the problem. Has anyone else experienced this or have an idea for a fix?

I actually was able to fix this issue! I contacted apple support via the online chat and they suggested I restore my phone (after backing it up of course). So if you restore your iPhone and then restore it from last backup, that should fix the problem with the iTunes Store. I hope this works for you as it did for me!!

ICloud won't launch since update to Mavericks.

Infact, neither will iMessage, and it's extremely frustrating. I've already tried reinstalling the update.
Anyone know how to fix this?

iCloud isn't something you "launch", unless you're referring to its preference? What update did you try to reinstall? Are you talking about Mavericks? Are you saying you can't sign into Messages?
Need some usable information for someone to help you.

update done today,but after the installation was complete and updated all my apps from app store i did restart and then most of the apps didn't open anymore (text edit,app store ,quickplayer,etc.)any idea why ?thnks.

Photos won't open since update to 9.1.1 HELP!!!

I just finished the update to iPhoto 9.1.1 and in the "photos" menu I can see all the thumbnails of the pictures, but when I double click on some ( most, though not all) of the photos, I get a large ! (exclamation point) but no picture.. I cannot find any information on why this is happening.. HELP please, I work with iPhoto!!!

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have tried turning off the firewall, but didn't help.

Safari won't open since update

I don't think I have the same plug-ins listed for previously posted answer. The Internet Plug-ins that I don't recognize are npg.plugin, nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt, QuartzComposer.webplugin, SharePointBrowserPlugin.plugin, and SharePointWebKitPlugin.webplugin. Should these be moved from Internet Plug-ins to Trash? FYI - The other plugins I have are for Adobe, Flash Player, iPhoto, Java, Quick Time and Silverlight.
