Major iphone os 3.1 and itunes 9 problem

Ever since updating to itunes 9 and 3.1 for my iphone i have been having syncing problems and I've had to restore my iphone almost every time, i get the error message (-6999) . I do a restore, start syncing a couple of songs and then i get that error message, then i disconnect and itunes makes me setup my iphone again after plugging it back in. Any help would be appreciated.........

Hi Folks
Here is a fix for the iPhone 3.1 update that causes the handset to remains caught in a restore loop **.
With this fix you should not need to reinstall iTunes to a previous version either, though I have only tested it with Windows OS, the same principle should work.
When your phone is caught in the restore loop, which causes iTunes to continually ask you to reinstall your iPhone and then upon resorting it brings up an error, do the following.
Login to another user account that has access to iTunes (any version) and plug your USB connector into the iPhone.
iTunes will then indentify that there is a 3.1 update which you agree to download. You will then be asked to reformat the phone and install the update. Go through the process as it tried to do in the other user account, follow any prompts that iTunes asks and eventually you will return your iPhone to its factory settings.
Next, disconnect your USB and then log back into the main user account you have previously been using your phone with, load up iTunes again and then reconnect the phone.
iTunes will now scan for the phone and automatically (if you have a previous backup) reinstall from a previous backup, if no backup is available then simply restore.
Once this is complete you should be left with a fully updated and more importantly working iPhone.
I have had some issues with this process with direct regard to the backup, but after a few tries this process works fine.
Hope this works for everyone.

  • Iphone 3 G S and Itunes problems

Recently changed 1st gen iphone to iphone 3 GS. I am 2 issues, one it wont load all my purchased apps. and the second issue is when I use the iphone to update Apps, it asks me for a password for itunes, but its is with my old .mac account, which oooI haven't used since I created a .me account. The short is, I need the iphone to ask me for itunes login for [email protected] not mac.com.
    Any help would be appreciated.

When you say, "it wont load all my purchased apps," what exactly happens? Does it start, and then stop at some point giving you errors and such? Does iTunes lock up?
I also just recently changed from the 1st gen to 3GS and had my own application/music synch problems, which may or may not be the same, but since I just solved the problem, I thought I'd relate them.
Even after my 1st Gen was 'deactivated' and couldn't make calls, it's basically an iPhone touch, and could be synched, no problems. But every time I've tried synching my 3GS, iTunes would install a few apps, and then hang up at random times as it installed apps. Using the task manager wouldn't always shut down iTunes, I'd have to do a hard reboot of my computer, install a few more before locking up, reboot again, install a few more, etc. For music, I get various errors (timing out, disk cannot be found, etc.).
After searching various iPhone/Apple troubleshooting forums to no avail, I wondered if the USB ports were my problem. What I've been doing is using the USB ports on my Dell monitor, because it was convenient, and it STILL synchs my 1st gen iPhone without problems. Well, I decided to try plugging directly into my computer, and voila, synched all apps and hundreds of songs, no problem.
Don't know if this helps you, but hopefully it may help anyone reading this thread for simliar issues.

  • Can you sync two 4S iPhones to one PC and iTunes account?

Can you sync two 4S iPhones to one PC and iTunes account?

No you don't. You log into iTunes with your Apple ID but you can use one Apple ID for iTunes and a different Apple ID for iCloud. On your device go:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and sign in with a new Apple ID
This will only change the Apple ID for iCloud and both devices will continue to download apps and backup to the shared iTunes account.

  • Is it possible to restore my iPhone from both iCloud AND iTunes?

    Hi there,
Is it possible to restore my iPhone from both iCloud AND iTunes?
I backed up phone to iCloud only (not iTunes... yea Im a dummy)  and when I restored everything was great except my music and pictures never came back! I did get a fraction of my pictures though... maybe 40 out of 1000. I synced with iTunes and now have my music back but almost no pics.
Shall I just erase all setting/content and  try again to restore from iCloud and then sync with iTunes? It just takes so long so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone had a better idea. I miss my pics.... D*mn iCloud
    Thanks so much!

    Welcome to Apple Communities
Yes, you can restore from an iCloud backup and sync with iTunes. Probably you won't recover all your photos with iCloud backup because you can only recover photos taken in your iPhone. When you sync your iPhone in iTunes, you will have your music and photos

  • My iPhone is not syncing and iTunes is going wack. Can anyone explain what's happening?

I guess this could constitute mainly as an iTunes problem, but there is disconnect with my IPhone 5. I have just recently added new songs to my iTunes and when I plugged my iPhone in, it didn't sync. At first I really didn’t care much about it. It usually does the same thing to my younger sister’s iPod touch. I assumed that all I’d have to do is go to my song menu and check the artists and songs I wanted to add. After doing this, I clicked apply and then sync and still the music didn’t download. Again, I didn’t worry much about it (and this could be my mistake) and I tried another solution that helped me with my old iPhone. I just checked off of music as a whole, clicked apply, synced, and then waited for iTunes to tell me the sync was over. This was unsuccessful. On iTunes, under ‘On this iPhone’ it said I had no music, however my iPhone still had all of my songs and playlists. This confused me so I took it a step further and caused more damage. I rechecked music (this time clicking add entire music library as opposed to only checked items), applied the changes, plugged my iPhone back in, and synced again. My iPhones library did not change. The number of songs I had remained the same. However, this time on the computer, iTunes told me I only had three songs under ‘On this iPhone’ but the capacity bar below told me a completely different number of songs than the ‘On this iPhone’ section and the number of song read on my iPhone. At this point I gave up meddling with everything and ejected my iPhone. I don’t want to delete and re-upload iTunes to my computer unless I absolutely have to (because I will lose all of my purchased music, apps, books, etc.). Does anyone know what’s wrong with my devices? Is there an easy fix, and if I have to delete and reload iTunes is there a way to do it without losing all of my stuff? I’m desperate for help, I don’t want to mess with it any more unless I’m absolutely sure the next time I plug my phone in it won’t experience and ultimate malfunction. Anyone with a solution is greatly appreciated.

    Hey DaddyPaycheck and Japamac,
    Thanks both for your replies.
    +You are a tenacious one, that's for sure! :-)+
I don't know if that's a good thing in this case.....;)
I do agree with the statement that it cannot handle dual processors. I swapped the the "original" working CPU with the "original" one I thought was giving me problems. It is now running (although showing as single) with the CPU I thought was bad. Both sets, original and untested, will work together and register as dual, but will be unreliable and randomly freeze.
+The defining bit of data would be if you could determine that one socket or the other is continually working, or if one is sporadic (thus explaining the occurrence of the pair working).+
I'm having trouble narrowing down that part. I can swap them back and forth and get the same result-so both sockets seem to be working. But like I said when both pairs are couple together, it shows as dual, and it works for a certain amount of time. So I know they are working to a certain degree. But when they're mixed, only one (don't know which one) is being seen.
Yes, I've run thermal calibration and everything goes fine. Even with the diagnostic disc, when the CPUs are mixed, hardware specs show one CPU. But when the original pairs are coupled, it will show both.
This is like a splinter that I can't get out. It runs great as one CPU, and I could let it go like that, but knowing that it could (and should) be dual is driving me nuts.
Is there anything either of you can think of that I can try?

  • IPhone 6, iOS 8, and iTunes

I am having some significant issues with synching my phone and I need help to resolve it.  Whatever changes they have made to the way these technologies work together is just not working for ME.
When I first got the iPhone, I restored from iCloud and then synched from my iTunes library to get my songs on there quicker (the iCloud download was taking forever).  This worked perfectly fine.
Then I downloaded the iOS 8.0.2 patch.  Now I'm having all sorts of weird problems.
I manage my music on iTunes and then synch with my phone.  Since this update, apparently it is using my iPhone as the master and updating my iTunes library from that.  This is a big problem!  I updated a playlist on iTunes and wanted to update it on my iPhone.  It never updated the playlist on my iPhone - it remained the same.  Then I deleted the playlist from my iPhone hoping that it would then copy the playlist correctly on the next synch.  NO.  It DELETED the playlist from my iTunes library!!!
I had "Show All Music" unchecked to fix an issue with iTunes/iPhone overwriting my album artwork I embedded in songs with the one from iTunes.  But, even though I had purchased songs downloaded to both my iPhone and iTunes, after the sync, the songs I've purchased from iTunes do not show up in my music if I have "Show All Music" unchecked.  If I check "Show All Music", then there are two instances of those songs that appear in my Music on my iPhone - the one that is downloaded, and the other one that I can download from "the cloud".  This should NOT work this way.  If it's in my iTunes library - and it syncs to my phone - it should be considered "downloaded" to my phone.
Next, based upon another thread in this community, I followed the instructions to 1. Delete all music from the phone, 2. Uncheck "sync music" in iTunes and sync to remove all music from my iPhone.  This deleted all my songs but ONE.  Why the heck is there ONE song on my phone??  It's not even a song I purchased from Apple - it's one I already had!  But it's not unique, yet it is the ONE song that is there now.
But of course, now I've got everything back on my iPhone - I have to have "Show All Music" checked in order to see all the songs I've purchased.  When I shuffle and it shuffles to a song that is "in the cloud", it starts to download it.  This ***** for two reasons.  1.  I get two copies of songs that I have purchased, but if I don't have "Show All Music" checked, I get no access to these songs.  2.  It downloads the Christmas music I purchased that I only sync at Christmas time.  This USED to not be a problem.  I'd uncheck them in my iTunes library, they wouldn't sync to my phone, and all was good.
This functionality is ridiculous and there is no reason why anyone would think this is a BETTER way for these two things to interact.  Is there some setting I have wrong that is causing this behavior?  There are a lot of other WEIRD things that have gone on, but these are the highlights.

Take it to an Apple Store, take proof of purchase with you.

    3) third and final issue is after resetting my iPhone setting to try and rectify the imessage issue I can no longer connect to my homes wifi network. My pad and partners iPhone 4 is working fine. I keep getting "incorrect password" when again, it's correct!!  I have a bt home hub 3.

Also, i cannot backup as I get an error message saying "unable to backup due to an unknown error".
If your iPhone do not accept your password, so how can that be correct?
Delete your backup and try again.

  • Multiple iPhones on same AppleID and iTunes

Can I have 2 different iPhones with 2 different phonenumbers connected to the same AppleID and iTunes? If yes, should I be aware of something. If no, how do I do?

Yes you can do that. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep track of everything, by device, including separate backups. I'd suggest giving each device a unique name, to keep everything straight.
