Make a Photo Smaller in iPhoto?

I am trying to update my picture on LinkedIn but it is only letting me do a certain size. I really want to include the whole picture, not just a small cropped square. Is there a way to physically make the picture smaller in iPhoto to fit the square they want, or can I only just crop the picture? Thanks.

If the picture is not square the ponly way you can make it square is to crop it
Once it is the sape you want then you can select it in iPhoto and export using the export options to change the hysical size of the file - probably the maximum pixel dimension is the best choice - see the user tip on exporting for details on the various options

I suppose there might be an extension, but you would be better off using a free photo editor.
I use "IrfanView" (irfanview.com) to work with photographs.
I use "PicPick" (picpick.org) to work from a screen print ("PrtSc") or capture to crop and annotate.

Something simpler may or may not be:
:Picnik (picnik.com), online photo editing, fix photos, crop, resize, rotate, artsy effects, fonts, shapes.
You also have alternatives storing the picture and./or elsewhere and providing a link

    * dropbox.com
If you have access to the image through Firefox, this extension looks promising

  • If I make a photo album in iPhoto, will it read well in an iPad? I want a photo flip book? Or is there a better app for me to create a digital scrapbook that I can share?

Hi, I'm interested in creating a photo scrapbook in iPhoto, but I want to send it as a gift in digital form?  Ideally, I want the pictures, writing and images to view well in an iPad, like a customized FlipBook. Can you recommend an app or program that I can use, that doesn't require printing?
    Thank you,
    Tania

iPhoto is a consumer level photo storage and manipulation program,
It stores it's files in the iPhoto Library, which appears to be a file, but if right clicked on and "show package contents" is actually a folder with it's sensitive guts inside, including a folder called Modified and Originals which you can Finder > File > Duplicate and transfer out.
If you use iPhoto to delete a photo, it IS removed off your hard drive as well but only from the iPhoto Library folder/package, not anywhere else on your drive as iPhoto is supposed to import a copy if say you have some on your desktop already and import them into iPhoto.
So it shouldn't touch anything outside your iPhoto Library. So how you organize photo's outside your iPhoto Library is your business, however don't expect iPhoto to respect your wishes inside the iPhoto Library package, that's really reserved for iPhoto use only.

  • Uploading photos - always makes the photos smaller for some reason

I have attempted to upload my photos from iphoto to print sites such as fotki.com. I was successful at doing this until I bought iLife 2006. Since I upgraded iphoto now when I upload the photos it uploads the photos in low resolution like 180x240 which is NOT suitable for printing. I have tried to get fotki.com to help but they say I'm uploading low resolution photos - its not their site's fault. I have tried to figure it out on my Apple but can't seem to figure it out. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

    Kaj:
That's true. iPhoto stores the comments and keywords in the Libary6.iPhoto database file. There is a way, a one time use of a demo version of iView MediaPro, to write the keywords and comments to the original file. Otherwise, what's assigned in iPhoto stays in iPhoto.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I make a photo collage in iphoto

I want to make a collage for a publication.  Easiest way to do this is?

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
You cna do it in programs like Pages and there are programs specifically to do that - google will return several

  • How can I make photos smaller in aperture to fit in book?

I have photos that I want to use in a layout. I need to make the photos smaller so you can see the whole image. How do I make the image smaller?
    Thanks

So first as Léonie asked what theme are you using? Themes behave differently and to test this out we need to know what you are using.
You've got that text box overlapping the image so its tough to see exactly where the image ends. If you could delete it it would make things easier to see.
If you right click on the image  what is the scale to fit setting and the aspect ratio for the photo box?
And finally what does the image look like just in the browser? In all my usage of books in Aperture anytime I have placed an image in a photo box it was scaled to fit in the box and show the entire image. Are you sure the image has space around it if you view it in the browser? A screen shot of the image in the browser or viewer would help also.

  • Hi, I want to know if the quality of a photo book with iphoto is the same that with aperture,

the photos have the same quality, because I used aperture to retouch it, but for me is easy make a photo book with iphoto, I only imported the photos form aperture to iphoto, and I made the photo book, I want to buy it, but before I want to know which one have more quality or if the method of impression, aperture and iphoto, are the same.
so have both the same quality of impression?
And if the answer is no, Can I export my photo book form iphoto to aperture? how?
    Thanks a lot

Quality is a personal opinion - I assume (but no one here really knows for sure) that the same vendor does both -
    - here are technical details on both - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3412
in cany case you can not move a photo book from iPhoto to Aperature
And Apple does have a 100% satisfaction guarentee

  • How do I make a photo file size smaller? The photo is .jpg.

I need to make a photo file size smaller for some other uses.
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iphoto 5.0.4

Haha yes i forgot that you may not be using Apples Mail. Lets try the export then file>export, then under the heading "format" click JPG. Then click "scale images no larger then:" in the width field type "800" then the height field should change by itself. Thats what i do for emailing, it's usually the best trade between quality & size, that should be small enough to email. Best wishes JAG
P.S. when you first click "scale images no larger then" what's already in the width height fields? thats your actual photo resolution.

  • Iphoto exports photos smaller than actual size

this problem just recently started, and i haven't changed anything (settings, os, way i import photos, etc...). basically when i upload photos on line, or open them up in another program by opening them through this process:
file - open - photos - iphoto library - data - *folder name* - *image title*
the photos all come out to be about 3x2 inches or so. most of them should be around 6x4 or so... i would just like to find a way to upload/open a file from iphoto, without having to take the photo out of iphoto, save it at a different file name into a different location, and having to open it up from that location. it adds too much work and uses up too much hard disk space, because i upload a lot of photos online.
    anyone know?

The problem is that you're not exporting at all; you're grabbing the file from the iPhoto library. Since you're going into the Data folder, you're getting the thumbnail that iPhoto creates to make viewing your library efficient.
The correct way to do this is to choose the photos you want from within the iPhoto application (not the library folder in Finder). Select File > Export > File Export, where you can create a folder on your desktop for the exported copies. In the export dialog you will also have the option to rename the copies or resize them for better performance in email or websites. When you have used the exports you can delete them; iPhoto keeps your original files safe inside the library.
Okay, I know you said you want to leave them in the library. But you can save disc space by deleting your exports after you've finished uploading them.
The reason I'm reluctant to tell you how to do it your way is that one of the most common causes of iPhoto damage is when people mess around inside the iPhoto library folder in Finder. Any changes made while you're in there will break the link between your file and the iPhoto database. At worst, you can corrupt your whole database and have to start over with a fresh library.
That being said, you should know that the full-sized photos are contained in either the Originals folder (unedited photos here) or the Modified folder (edited and rotated photos here). The advantage to exporting is that iPhoto knows which one to copy; to find it yourself you have to go looking around a bit.
And, just to be safe, you can use Finder to make a duplicate of the file Library6.iPhoto, located just inside the iPhoto Library folder. (It's a relatively small file.) Keeping a current copy of this file will allow you to easily restore your library in the event of database corruption. I make a new duplicate every time I close iPhoto and keep the 2 most recent copies as back-up.

Books are no longer supported with iPhoto '08 (a roughly six yeal old product) - you can purchase an iLife '09 DVD from someplace like Amazon or eBay and install it - iPhoto '09 is still supported this year
