Make a System Voice
Hello,
I am making a Jarvis startup sequence, but I can't find a close enough voice built in to use. Is there any way I could create a system voice for me to use? If so, how?
With firefox OS 2.0 and above you can use appear.in to make video and audio calls via webrtc

How do I consistently make Google maps voice activate with my Sync Bluetooth sustem
I can not consistently make Google maps voice activation and my Sync system to work. I have tried several of the suggestest solutions but there doesn't seem to be one that works all the time - maybe its me
when airport express lights up yellow it means it dont have connection to the internet
your laptop, your ipad and your airport express all have a female 3.5mm minijack connector which they can play audio out of
if you need to buy anything really comes down to the bose device you own if it does not have any type of audio input connectors there really is nothing you can do
if it have a female 3.5mm minijack connector then it's just connecting a cable with a male 3.5mm minijack connector in each end to the bose and whatever device you want audio from as in ipad, laptop or airport express
this is such a cable
http://www.cables2u.co.uk/images/3.5MM_mini_jack_to_3.5MM_cable.jpg
if it have a female RCA connectors like AUX or CD (typically red and white)or whatever those would be labeled then getting a cable with male RCA in one end and a male 3.5mm minijack in the other would fix it
this is such a cable

non of this is really apple related so if you know somebody who dabble a bit with stereos in general then maybe they can set it up for you as it don't have anything to do with apple stuff or even computers and tablets
it's just about connecting an analogue input source to a stereo which support analogue input (if yours does that) -
IPhone 5s, Outgoing calls makes connection, no voice
iPhone 5s - Outgoing calls makes connection, no voice.
Just spent the morning trying to resolve this problem. If you want good support, Apple support is not the place to go: See the following. My phone is working now, but the support received from Apple was of no help.
There
are limited places to post the following comment so here it is: Contacted apple
support today for Iphone 5c issue (phone would not make outgoing calls,
intermittent and when there was a connection, receiving party could not hear me
unless I was on
speaker. After contacting my service provider, resetting my phone and checking
problems with service, they connected me to Apple support. Apple called me and
gathered my information, cell number I was calling from (not my cell with
problem). We worked through some possible issues and then she said she was
going to call my cell to check connectivity. She proceeds to hang up on the
call we were on and attempts to call my cell. My cell was not working properly,
hence my call was made from a different phone. Support person can not reach me
through my celll ( because it was not working properly) instead of contacting
me back on the number I gave her in case we were disconnected, she leaves a
message for me to call Apple support back to resolve the problem and she was
going to add to the ticket that we were disconnected. Oh and she neglected to
leave me a call back number so that didn't help much. Didn't give me a ticket
number. I use to love apple. I guess you either love them or hate them. I now
hate them and will tell everyone that they have the worst support I have ever
encountered. I have seen many issues with Apple phones whenever someone updates
their IOS as recommended. If you want anything more than sub par support I
would suggest you go anywhere except Apple. Posting on as many social media
sites as I can, since this is the only source I have to complain. Not that
these complaints will be taken seriously. -
Can I run my MacBook Pro Late 2008 without battery forever? Is it bad in long term or anything? Does it make the system less stable?
My battery got swollen (and I unfortunately noticed it very late and might have be running with it for months, which potentially explains all the crashes everyday and the trackpad not working anymore, the Apple test also says I have a bar of ram broken...) and I had to remove it because the back pannel did not close anymore... Can I still use my MBP normally forever that way? I was planning on buying a new mac anyway but maybe waiting for the next iMac upgrade in the year... Should I wait?Other than the system shutting down instantly if you have a power outage, whcih could corrupt the OS. Nothing else bad will happen.

Lucreate - Cannot make file systems for boot environment
Hello!
I'm trying to use LiveUpgrade to upgrade one "my" Sparc servers from Solaris 10 U5 to Solaris 10 U6. To do that, I first installed the patches listed on [Infodoc 72099|http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-9-72099-1] and then installed SUNWlucfg, SUNWlur and SUNWluufrom the S10U6 sparc DVD iso. I then did:
--($ ~)-- time sudo env LC_ALL=C LANG=C PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:$PATH lucreate -n S10U6_20081207 -m /:/dev/md/dsk/d200:ufs

Well - why's that?
I can do a "newfs /dev/md/dsk/d200" just fine.
When I try to remove the incomplete S10U6_20081207 BE, I get yet another error :(

Boot environment <S10U6_20081207> deleted.I get this error consistently (I ran the lucreate many times now).
lucreate used to work fine, "once upon a time", when I brought the system from S10U4 to S10U5.
Would anyone maybe have an idea about what's broken there?

None of the changes I make to system preference or the dock will hold after restart. I've cleared the RAM, run disk repair and reinstalled the OS. Now what?
MobileMe closed on July 31, 2012.
It is true that the only way to sync your Mac with iCloud is to upgrad. You need to be running OS X Lion 10.7.2 or higher in order to sync your Mac with iCloud. At this point, you can upgrade directly to OS X Mountain Lion from the version of OS X you are now running (10.6.8). You can purchase and download the Mountain Lion upgrade from the Mac App Store for $19.99. After upgrading you will see iCloud in System Preferences. This guide explains how to sync your Mac with iCloud after upgrading: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Once all your devices are signed into the same iCloud account and you have turned on your iCloud data syncing, you will be able to keep them all in sync using iCloud. You will still have to sync with iTunes to manage your iTunes media such as music, movies, podcasts, etc. You will have the option to either continue backing up automatically with your computer when you sync with iTunes, or to back up your iOS devices automatically to iCloud every 24 hours (as long as they are connected to wifi and your chargers). -
I can't download the System Voice(s) for my MacBook Pro Retina?
I try to download the additional Apple System Voice(s) but I always get this following message...
"The new java Version 7 Update 13 is not exactly helpful in macbook pro.
try the version 11 or 12 they should work perfectly."
The OP is running 10.6.8 so Java 6 is his option at this point.

The system voice fails to load up a voice (just hangs)
I have checked the location of voices in system>library>speech>voices . The voices folder exists and has all the voices inside it
If i restart the machine then it does resolve it but only temperamentally -- within an hour it will be broken again --
This has been going on months for me
The only thing i can think of is that i uninstalled the boom app with this script , do you think this caused something
Boom was very interfering with things i thought
Anything i can do ?Its still happening
But noticed this today
So is it getting stuck trying to access apples remote server??
and why would it be doing that -
(SOLVED)How do I make a system snapshot?
Hi,
The latests udev scare has shown me two things: you can rely on the community to fix this (thanks Tobias!) and a good backup/snapshot is worth its wheight in gold.
What manual do I read/study/understand to make a system snapshot before upgrading? I rely on the fallback now, but... the current system (the one that does not work that well) will become the ... fallback after update and that's not a good prospect...unless I'm mistaken!
Thank you, I hope my question does not raise any storms.

Last edited by Thor@Flanders (2011-01-27 14:12:25)Hi everyone,
@karol : indeed, this is the "painful spot" - it seems to be solved, so an update is in order of course...just want to keep the "furniture safe" so to speak
@ tomk : no offense taken, but, I stil consider myself a newbe (but I am a newbe that IS willing to learn...), so the question is "what to learn and what to learn first?", okay, so there are some things you mentionned I need to learn, but Linux is NOT just a hobby for me. I do not have any other system (like Mac or windows) - there just is ... Linux.
@ ngoonee : I dont know yet what the fallback is, but there's just one word for it right now : lifesaver! Arch is great, there IS a fallback
Edit : Okay, some options have come up...in the answers posted...including one post elswhere from one Enlightened Spirit - who also has my profound gratitude.
I have understood (from the stuff I read) that the fallback is "merely" (using this word cautiously) an all-in-one package while the standard kernel is a fine tuned set. Hence, since there is "just what is needed", there is nothing to "fall back" on...the difference in size (1.4Mb - 7.9Mb) tells tales.
I looked into rsync too, okay, that, in combo with a weekly cron job and one to be run before updates, should be all I need to be secure...
I can safely say that this thread can be closed...and marked as solved as requested in this thread https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=50161...
Editting the subject line next time round!
Closing edit : marking this thread as solved with gratitude to all that helped, and showed me what to learn next!

How do i make UNIX system calls in Java app?
Is it possible to make UNIX system calls in a java app? I.E. perform a file copy/move to another machine within a program.
Thanks,
ErikIf there is a command line tool then you use Runtime.exec() otherwise you have to use JNI.
If you want to access shared libraries you might want to look at www.swig.org -
MBP 4,1 running 10.6.8 snowleopard and it runs great but i was wondering if upgrading to moutain lion will make run slower?
Lion is still available but you have to Call Apple to order it and then they send you a Redemtion Code to your Apple ID Email address that you use on the Mac App Store to download it.
But in all honesty even Lion is going to make your system run slower then it now does. Lion, like Mt Lion, uses more system resources then Snow Leopard. I can see the difference on my 2011 MBP with 8GBs of RAM and a fairly fast hard drive. Snow Leopard boots and runs faster then Lion and more so then Mt Lion.
What you need is a New or Newer MBP. If that is not an option then the only thing I can say is give Lion a try. That is AFTER you do a complete Time Machine Backup of your current Snow Leopard install just in case you need to go back.
By the way Apple replaced the Logic board in your system with the same Faulty NVidia chip install in it. Apple Never Updated the NVidia chip used on those logic boards. So odds are sometime in the future, Near or Far, that board will fail again. -
Can system voice announce time in French if iMac set to English?
I'm wondering if anyone know how to have the system announce the time in another language, say French. if the Computer System is set to English. I can download a French computer voice in Customize of the voice panel of Date and Time but I don't hear it announce the time. When I change to another voice I hear the announcements.
I have Tom, the system voice is set to Sebastian and the time is set to announce on the quarter hour. The computer system is set to English. I find the time announcements in English intrusive but I absolutely need to know the time so I don't get so engrossed in computer work that I don't leave for work on time. As I speak French also and find the Sebastian voice quite soft and soothing I thought it would be a nice thing to have French time announced. I downloaded the voice and it shows up in my list of choices when I choose Customise in the date and time announcements panel. The time announcements work when I choose Alex but when I choose Sebastian no announcemts are forthcoming.

Customer system voice mail operator Prompts in CUE V3
Hello,
Is there a way to modify the system voice mail operatator prompts wave files (which are played if the caller does not hang up after leaving a voice mail for a subscriber).
Thanks!A great way to diagnose this issue without deleting voicemail boxes is to issue the following command.

If you get the following output you know you have exceeded the license. This way you don't have to delete vm boxes to figure out if you're hitting this issue.

Manually install system voices
I'm a language enthusiast, and love experimenting with the text to speech functions in OS X. I've got a Mini that has all of the system voices downloaded (yes, all 21GB of them), and that process took several days of going back and manually telling it to download more, since my connection didn't take kindly to so much being downloaded all at once.
I now have a Retina MBP as well, and I'd like to not have to put up with all of that hassle. I've copied all of the files out of /System/Library/Speech/Voices on the Mini and put them in the corresponding folder on the MBP, but in spite of that it still says that it has to download the voice to install it, even after a restart. Is there something I can do to force it to recognize the files in the folder?by the way, i used command ORADIM -NEW -SID xxx -INTPWD xxx to create the new instance
and i did not use oracle assistant to create the new database, instead, I used command CREATE DATABASE xxx LOGFILE xxx CONTROLFILE xxxx.....
also i did set the ORACLE_SID to new SID.....
