Make Eyedropper Set Foreground Color not Background

How do you make color selections/sampling like with the Eyedropper set the Foreground color?
It was always that way before CS3 unless I accidentally changed a pref unknowingly.
Now when I select/sample color it sets the background color.
I looked, but couldn't find a pref setting for this.
Thanks

I think Kath meant to point you toward this entry in the FAQ section:

  • Selective replace foreground-color with background-color

    Hi,
    I'm new to Photoshop and coming from paint shop pro (psp).
    Now I have to recolor a black dotted arrow in a bitmap to red.
    All other contents are black, too. In psp there is a tool/brush to
    replace foreground-color with background-color. So I'd select
    black as foreground-color and red as background-color, hover
    with cursor over the area to recolor and that's it.
    How to do it with Photoshop?
    Thanks in advance

    Can you clarify this?  It sounds like you have a black arrow on a black background.

  • ECL Viewer Color (not background)

    Hi,
    Does anyone know where in the registry personal settings for COLOR in ECL Viewer is stored? I have succesfully set the background color to white using key ImageViewUtils to "ffffff". But how to set the color of the drawing? I want to use "monochrome" but when changing the setting in ECL to "monochrome" drawing is ok, but I cant find the reg key holding the information. No additional keys are added under ImageViewUtils, so I guess its stored somewher else?
    If someone has an idea as how to  set color via registry entry it would be much appreciated.
    We're on ECL 6.1.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    check by adding EAIWeb.webviewer2D.1 %SAP-CONTROL%MAXSIZE% in tcode DC30 for Define workstation application -> Define workstation application in network -> Application (path & program) for pc.
    I would recommend you to upgrade to the latest available ECL Viewer 6.1 patch  because with this version the display quality should be better and it is not necessary to set this flag.
    Hope this helps.

  • Could PlainDocument set Foreground Color Attribute?

    PlainDocument class has a method called
    insertString(int pos,String str,AttributeSet a)
    It looks like we could add attributes to PlainDocument ,but
    when I assign it a Attribute Set ,the foreground color doesn't
    change, could anyone tell me how to change attributes
    in PlainDocument?
    Thanks a lot!
    Caton

    Yes, I tried these two already,but it still doesn,t work.
    I found whether I use JEditorPane or JTextPane ,it does not change anything.
    In the subclass of the JEditorPane ,called SubEditorPane, I write the code
    setContentType("text/plain"); -->to get the DefaultEditor instance for SubEditorPane
    PlainDocument doc = (PlainDocument)getEditorKit().createDefaultDocument();
    -->to get PlainDocument instance
    then I use doc.insertString(0,"This is a Test Words",style);
    where the style is a NamedStyle instance :
    StyleContext sct = new StyleContext();
    Style style = sct.addStyle("test",null);
    style.addAttribute(StyleConstants.Foreground,Color.blue);
    But it doesn't change anything :foreground color is still black!!
    I don't know where I do the wrong thing ,style instance or else ?
    Thanks!

  • HT2478 how do you make the setting to change desktop background every time you shut down your mac

    how to make setting to change desktop background every time you close your mac
    because i want to make it if anybody tries to change my dekstop picture i want it to go backto set desktop picture

    Don't let other people access your Mac in admin mode - they might change something a lot more important than the Desktop picture.
    However you can use Automator: create an Application in it, and select 'Set the Desktop Picture' from the Library. Choose the picture you want. Save the application, then go to System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items and select the Automator application you just created. This will then run at startup and set your chosen picture.

  • Setting the color (or background color) of a substring

    Is it possible to set the color of a substring. For example:  If I had the string "Steve is stuck and needs help" and I wanted to change it to become "Steve is stuck and needs help".
    At present I am trying to modify the text inside of a String Indicator, but am open to suggestions.
    I have been reading the LV help and it seems to suggest that you can do this using the Text.SelStart and Text.SelEnd properties, but I can't get over that last hurdle that actually updates the string.

  • Eyedropper selecting outline color not underneath layer

    I'm attempting to do a gradient mesh on an apple.  I'm stuck when filling the mesh with the eyedropper tool.
    What i do is use the direct selection tool and click an anchor and then click the eyedropper tool on that anchor point  What is happening is the the outline color is being selected. So i found out Illustrator CS6 you have to hold shift while clicking the eyedropper.  I tried that and still can't get the color of the underneath layer, the fill color stays white?  Here is pic:
    As you can see in the navigator window, the shade of red is that of the outline and not the apple underneath the outline.  I tried shift+eyedropper and white is the only color that get's sampled.  What am i doing wrong?

    Yes the fill is focused.  Here is the eyedropper settings.  I tried again and it either samples the outline color or the smart guide color(green)  It should sample the template layer underneath(apple).

  • Replacing colors not working?

    Hi,
    I have a picture of an old retro tv that I want to change the edge color of the tv from red to sky blue.
    I follow the steps from the Adobe Photoshop CS5 "Clasroom in a book" using the color replacement tool, size 15 pixels brush, hardness 40%, and spacing 25%, hue, continuous sampling, fine edges, tolerances 32% and auto-alias.
    I brgan paintng and the color comes out in a very dark blue? Did I miss something?
    Is there a way to change the original red color to sky blue?

    When you use the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, activate the hand symbol with the arrows going left and right and click on the part of the image you want to change the color of. This will select the color channel that needs changing.  In the case of your TV screenshot, Cyans will be selected. Moving the hue slider to the right will make the cyans in your image less greenish.
    If you know the exact RGB values of the color blue you want, you should be able to input them in the Replace Color dialogue by clicking on the Result swatch and entering the values. However, the success of using that dialogue depends on how accurately you are able to select the color you want to change. The quality of the screenshot I was able to make from your post was quite poor so it was difficult to get an accurate selection of the area you want to change the color of by using the fuzziness slider.
    Another possibility would be to make a selection of the area you want to change (e.g. using the pen tool) and fill the selection with the color you want. If you have a swatch of the blue you want, you only have to make it your foreground color and fill the selection via Edit - Fill - Foreground color

  • Eyedropper sets Background color swatch instead of Foreground

    Q: Why does the Eyedropper Tool set the Background color instead of the Foreground color when I click in my image?
    A: The reason for this is that the Background swatch is "targeted" to accept the color information passed on by the Eyedropper Tool when you use it to sample a color. You can reset the behavior by clicking on the Foreground swatch in your Colors Palette/Panel. See the image below:
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-1902897-1946/Eyedropper-Focus- Infographic.png
    No matter which swatch is targeted, you can choose to temporarily sample color into the other swatch by holding down the Option key (ALT on Windows) while you sample with the Eyedropper Tool.
    If you'd like to have the current Foreground and Background colors (as displayed in your Toolbox) switch places, simply tap the 'X' key on your keyboard.
    Finally, to reset the Foreground and Background swatches to their default of black and white, simply tap the 'D' key.

    Click on Windows and color.  There is a setting there to change from
    foreground to background.  The one with the box around it is the default setting.

  • Is there a way to disallow web pages to modify foreground color of elements if background of those elements was not changed as well (and vice versa)?

    I have very sensible defaults for my display; i.e. I have dark GTK scheme (dark gray background, light gray text) that suits me way more when working on my computer while it's dark around. I, however, like looking at web pages as how they were mean to be seen. Unfortunately, most of web designers don't think about anyone having non-default colors set up.
    Example one ( http://www.cedok.cz ):
    This site's CSS style has "color: rgb(45, 45, 45);" for the whole <body> but for <select> elements there is no "background-color" set. This means there is a select box rendered with dark gray background and dark gray foreground (text color). This is pretty badly readable (obviously).
    To mention one particular element from this site: e.g. <select id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolderLevySloupec_HledaniMultiTab1_HledaniZajezdu1_ddlTypZajezdu">
    Example two ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop/customize/form ):
    On this page (where I'm currently filling in this question) the <textarea id="id_content"> has "background: ... rgb(255, 255, 255);" set, but with my default font color, this textarea is rendered as light gray text on a white background. Again, pretty unreadable (and eye-hurting).
    I can provide screenshots and more reasoning if needed.
    I'm asking if there is (or might be) an option (even disabled by default) or at least an add-on which would keep default colors unless both foreground and background colors were specified. I think this might make Firefox very usable for many people which like to have their default colors configured.
    In case you won't be able to help me by fixing this, could you redirect me to the right place where I could get this requested in a way that might be really possible to happen (bugzilla?).
    Thank you very much in advance.

    Thanks for the reply, but I'm sorry, no. I don't want any addon that customizes colors, I want to use default colors and only prohibit changing them unless both background and foreground colors are changed.
    I have made no color changes WRT to Firefox *only*, I just changed the default for the whole toolkit (gtk in this case). The thing I need is to disable changing *only one* property out of two ({back,fore}ground). Whenever the second one gets set as well, this new setting (both of them) may get reflected, but not before that. It'd be nice to keep this when changing the colors back (deleting the style), but that's not necessary.
    I hope that's understandable, feel free to ask for if that's not the case.
    To express what I mean a bit more precisely, see the attached image. In that image there are four textareas (one of the elements that gets affected by this). First one is a default one (which I want to have if the page has nothing set), the second one is nicely modified to fit for example to a blue-ish page (this one I like as well).
    Second row of textareas shows how the final element looks like if the page has only one of these elements set up. First one changes background without changing font color, the second one vice versa. Both of them are very badly readable, especially with low lighting around.
    This is consequently the same case when it comes to default page background which I cannot set at all, because too many pages have only "color:" set without changed background and that is completely messed up then. Going to extremes, I might mention all color-related modifications (see how ugly the borders look when the background is changed and nothing is done to these borders, their size and color is kept default), but I understand that's too much.

    FC/e supports only a few 'standards': DV (as from miniDV cams), HDV (from miniDV devices), AVCHD (from most devices) and with a little trick, described on my website AVCHD-light (720p, as from many compact-stills) ..

    some Flips are supported by iMovie, which you can abuse as a converter tool.
    but 'non video standard' (=read 'video' as 'in TV') formats, resolutions and codecs ...
    a) manual conversion = less convenient
    b) loss of 'quality', e.g. when you blow-up tiny 480x320/15fps into video..
    FC/e is FC/pros lil' brother.. meant for a more.. adult workflow..
    if you like to wrestle with multi-formats, stay with Windows/Magix/..
    Windows=options, with a chance of getting lost
    MacOs=convenience, with a chance of getting restricted

  • How do you keep the colors of an image true when you set it as a background?

    I have an image with lines in it and a black blackground. When I set it as a background :
    html {
        background: url(../Images/backgroundimage.jpg);
        background-repeat:auto;
        background-position:center top;
    the black is a couple shades lighter so when I place a <div> with an <img>that is also mainly black on top of it, the top image is much darker than the background. I have no other css tags on the div other than a margin. The only difference in the images is I saved the background from photoshop and the image in the div from illustrator but I dont think that should have effected anything. Does anybody know anything about this because I am seriously stumped.
    Thanks

    We have been here before…
    Firstly, Adobe' Photoshop has the ability to save a color profile with an image. That color profile will be consistent across all versions of Adobe software. Problem is, Adobe does not make web browsers (and that is probably a good thing).
    When you save images for websites, you need to go through the proper Photoshop or Illustrator dialog. You want to Save for Web & Other Devices. Why? because the applications will take the image out of CMYK color space (if it is in that color space) and make it RGB. They will also try to translate the colors in a sensible way. When you use this dialog, you will see various options for JPG, including ICC Profile. Turning this on or off will change how the colors get mapped, and some experimentation to get best results is a good idea.
    I have it turned off, presently.
    The image will be set up for 72 dots per inch automatically, and you can, then, resize the image to optimize it for the website you are working on. If you are trying to fill a hole for an image that is 350 pixels wide by 250 tall, don't save the image as 1125 wide by 1024 high. That will take a long time to download from your server to whatever device is displaying it. Your original image will not be changed and you can navigate your path to your defined website's images folder.
    This should help you immeasurably. I should mention that If I am trying to match a background exactly, I will tend to knock out that color from the image, save the image as a .PNG file with transparency (where that particular color is) and place the image on the background in question with the background color I am trying to match on the website.

  • Cant change color on visited sites without changing background /foreground colors that hide options on the sitec

    I want to change the color of visited sites, but am forced to set background and foreground colors which don't properly
    show all of the colors for controls etc on many websites.
    I have to uncheck the button to Allow pages to choose their own colors....
    Google is a good example after doing a search, then change visited sites color, uncheck the allow pages button and then you can't see the search button and most of the options in the top right corner in google.
    I am a little color blind, so can't differentiate blue and purple for links on visited sites...
    thx

    I think the problem is that many sites use background colors to create buttons, so you lose that when you override the page's colors.
    Maybe you could use an add-on to fine-tune colors instead of Firefox's all-or-nothing setting. I found a couple extensions that say they can change page colors, but I haven't tried them myself:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/color-that-site/ Color That Site!]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/colorific-1/ Colorific]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/toggledocumentcolors-198916/ ToggleDocumentColors_]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/color-toggle/ Color toggle]
    For a truly custom approach to link colors, there are two general purpose ways to apply your own style rules to specific sites: the Stylish extension and a userContent.css files. You would need to set a preferred text ''and'' background color for visited and unvisited links so that you are guaranteed to be able to read the text.
    Hope one of these fits the bill!
