Making a booklet

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a mini booklet using Pages and Cocoabooklet. I export the file as a pdf. and create the booklet using the cocoabooklet program. However the font size is decreased in the booklet form despite the fact that there is plenty of room on the page. Even when I increase the font in the original Pages document and create a new booklet the font is always decreased. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any other programs capable of making a minibooklet?

Well, you are shrinking the page to somewhere around 60-70% of the original. Also, the proportion of the half of a landscape page isn't the same as a portrait page.
I do a weekly church service booklet & need to have the print bigger than I would for mostly younger people. I have the body text as Times 17 point. I also have the margins of my Pages document at 0.75 inside & outside & 0.5 top & bottom. I can't remember if I tried smaller & had them cut off. I prefer to work on the Pages document at 75% view which gives me a closer representation of the final output.
I also found it took some playing around with CocoaBooklet's preferences for margins. I have the preferences set for US Letter 11.00 x 8.50 landscape, left & right margins 0.25, upper & lower margins 0.20, inner gutters at 0.00 (all in inches). Then, after I open the booklet PDF in Preview I set my printer (it's always the generic "any printer) & the scale at 108%. This gives me the smallest printed margins I have been able to manage.

    Adobe Reader never converted Publisher files to PDF, for free, never. I suspect you use to have the (paid for) Adobe Acrobat. Sometimes people have Acrobat (more than $300 worth) and install Adobe Reader over the top, losing that valuable software.
    That said, if you subscribed to PDF Pack it should do this conversion. What exactly happens now.

  • Making a Directory with alumni information...Templates to use?

    I am making a directory with alumni information for my high school reunion. In one part of the book, I want to list bio information along with a current pix. In the back of the book, I want to alphabetize everyone's name and address and then cross-reference which page their bio is on. Can anyone tell me how to go about doing that? I want the end result to be a booklet (with 81/2 inch by 11 inch paper folded in half). I tried using one of the Pages templates (I believe it is the one for cooking because it was the only one I could find in the brochure section that was not a tri-fold). I am finding that it took so long to put just one page together. I need to be able to do it rather quickly since there are over 100 people already attending and I can't take forever to do this project. I would appreciate any input from anyone on this subject.

    I would start on a Word Processing blank document, Not a Page layout document. I'd use A4 paper size but I guess you'll have to use the US letter size.
    When I have created the bios of the people I would use a Heading style for their names. By doing this I can make a Table of Contents of there names. Don't forget adding page number.
    The table of Contents (TOC) will be created in the beginning of the brochure. Select the TOC and copy the content. Open TextEdit and Paste. To alphabetise you need to get the free app WordServices from [http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/services.html]
    do the alphabetising and copy and paste the text in the end of your Pages document. The TOC is the very last thing you should do before making the booklet.
    Save the document. I hope you have done that many times during the process creating it. And also save it as a PDF document.
    To make the booklet get either the app BookLightning 1.7.2 or Create Booklet PDF Service 1.1
    These application will take your document and create a booklet with the right pagination.

    Can one set Pages to RGB \ CMYK? Where?
    The page description models of Adobe PostScript, Apple QuickDraw Graphics Extension, and Adobe Portable Document Format are object oriented. Conceptually, there is no such thing as a global colourant model for object oriented page description models.
    To control colour in an object oriented page description model that supports the intelligent separation model of the International Color Consortium, capture and correct images into a source CIELab or RGB colour space of your choice.
    Place RGB objects in pagination properly tagged with their source ICC profiles and include the ICC profile for the intended printing condition as a PDF/X-3 OutputIntent using the ColorSync Utility export process (take care to revisit the export filter to see if the printing condition is correct).
    This way all objects in the pagination are converted into the correct ink limit, gray balance, highlight soft clipping, shadow soft clipping and compression of colour contrasts for the lightness range and colour gamut of the printing condition.

  • Modifying linked images

    Hi all,
    I'm making a booklet (in InDesign) that will have a few pages filled with collage-type visuals that I'm planning on making in PS. I'll be using a few low-res images that a photographer has given me but hasn't yet retouched, converted to high-res nor color profiled - but he will need to see my collages before being able to retouch them. I was wondering if there was a way to relink placed images in PS the way you can in Illustrator, but after rasterizing the images (since I'll be needing to lasso-cut into them to make the collage happen)?
    Basically, what I'm doing right now is creating a canvas, placing two JPG images saved as TIF for testing, selecting "Edit Content" and cutting into them with the lasso, saving and switching back to my canvas. The modification is applied and correct, but when I select "Replace Content" and choose the same test file from its original source place (as I would do when the photog hands me over the retouched image), the relink removes the data I've just created and just inserts the full-sized image, thus destroying my "collage".
    What am I missing here?

    Probably, the OS is irrelevent. But that's not definite. A given version of Ps on Windows and the same version on OS X have some different bugs. I don't understand why you didn't just type the requested information in as few words as it took to type "but I doubt it's OS-related".
    Anyway, Photoshop does have problems with SO masks not transforming correctly when a SO is transformed. I thought your replacement images would have the same physical dimensions (inches) as the original and only differ in resolution (ppi), and therefore didn't realize that you'd be wanting to scale the SOs.
    I suggest you resize each replacement image to the same physical dimensions as the corresponding original before doing the replacement.

    I work in CS2 (Win XP) and started making a booklet in Swedish. Not until I finished I realised that my (English) CS2 had the default language English UK selected. Is there any way to change the already written text to Swedish in one swoop? I can mark the text (in each textholderframe) and change it but it takes time so I'm looking for a shortcut. Anyone knows how?

    You can use Replace for that.
    In the Find Format, select "English UK" in the Advanced Character Format panel. In the Change Format, select Swedish. Be sure there is *no text at all* in the two edit boxes (there might be a space somewhere) and that the search range is set to Document. Press "Change All". Done.

  • Making a pdf of an InDesign Booklet

    Ever since I installed Snow Leopard I have not been able to format InDesign booklets into a pdf. I have read many postings on this topic but nothing has worked so far. The best I have come up with is for me to de-install Snow Leopard and go back to Leopard (where is was totally easy to do this simple task). Any suggestions?

    What version of InDesign are you using?
    What exactly is the problem you are having? I assume you are using the PDF Export Presets in InDesign to make the PDFs? Why doesn't it work? Grayed out? Nothing happens or the PDFs don't work?
    Please explain in more detail.

    Combine 1-12th files and name it  “combined 1” for example
    Combine 13-24 files and name it “combined 2”
    Keep doing step #1 and #2 and combine those combined files to combine all your files

    Select File menu> Combines Files into a Single PDF
    Click “Add Files” button at top of the dialog
    Select all your files
    Click “Combine” button at the bottom.

    The archived discussions have been very helpful getting me this far, but now I have a problem I cannot solve. I have a pages file, export it to a pdf using cocoabooklet. However, every other page comes up in preview inverted. If I rotate a page they all rotate accordingly. Help!

    By default, inverting every other page is on in the Cocoa Booklet Preferences. Open Cocoa Booklet & go to Preferences & click Options then check the box next to Do not flip even pages.

  • How to PRINT a CD booklet in Indesign CS 5?

    I think it's alittle funny that our professor at my 4yr college is teaching us how to make a CD booklet in Indesign using Masterpages and yet he doesn't know how to print it out.
    Well I'm having trouble printing mine out. I'm making a CD booklet for a singer I like and put lyrics/backgrounds on each document.
    But, since there is two columns on one page, i made the same background stretched across, so that each page/document had a theme. My teacher said this had something to do with pagination and he didn't know how to print it out.
    this is how the pages are setup in indesign masterpages:
    1 (this is the cover)
    2-3
    4-5
    6-7
    8-9
    10-11
    12-13
    14-15
    16-17
    18 (this is the back cover)
    So whenever i print them out the pictures are not matching up right, to where if i folded each page, each page is not matching the theme.
    So here are some screenshots, I'm turning this in next week, and would really appreciate help on the printing parts!! Also, when they print out they are printing upside down i dont know how to fix this.
    and this was taken with my phone, see the images dont match up right, and also want them to be not backwards on the back. I am printing these double sided pages!

    There's a problem, I think, with Petteri's solution, and that's that he's got all the extra pages to the right of the spine.  When you do island spreads you have to be sure that you have some sort of symmetry so the pages will back up properly, whether in this case you have all the spreads with two pages on either side of the spine, or if you alternate sides with the ones and threes.
    But I can see now why your instructor said he didn't know how you would print this. you want 4 pages together (or two double-width pages, which would be another way to set it up). That combined width is bigger than any sheet of paper that is likely to run in your printers without tiling and pasting the pages together at some point. It would be no problem on a press, but you aren't going to run one booklet on a press. If your printers can handle 13 x 19 sheets you might be able to find a printer willing to cut you some from a lerger sheet, or you might be able to find a ream someplace, but it will be expensive and you might not get the stock you want, and even on that size sheet I'm afraid you'd have clipping on the outer left and right ends where you run into the non-printing area on the edge of the sheet. The other option would be to run on a wide-format inkjet plotter.
    Ask your professor if you can print this at reduced size as a proof of concept and you may be able to output on equipment that is available to you at school.
    But that brings us back to the problem of page count. Your example has 12 panels, not 18. If you want to have a 4-panel spread like this, you need to be working in multiples of 8 panels for your design -- 4 panels on each side of the sheet. You can leave some blank if you want to, but you need to conscioulsly put those blanks where you want them.

  • Print Booklet Bleed Issue in CS6

    When I try to print the file as a booklet, the left and right bleeding of some pages does not appear on themselves; however, they appear on the next spread.
    The spread goes like this, with some objects exceeding the pages for bleeding:
    When I print as a booklet, the preview goes like this:
    Front and Back Covers; their left and right bleed do not show...
    ...but instead, they reach the next spread. These blue stripes in the left and right are the continuation of the covers above.
    And it keeps happening with other pages that need bleeding. The top and bottom bleed are fine.
    I tried changing many options in the print booklet dialogue box, even in the printer setup itself.
    It may be that I have built the spreads wrong too I am still thinking if these 2 and 21 pages are necessary to exist in the file, since they are only blank. (though I had tried deleting them too, and the issue still exist)
    I looked everywhere for a solution, maybe I don't know the right terms to search for this problem...
    I also noticed that everything goes well while using the Export (to PDF) command.
    The reason I'm using the booklet option is to have a document with the pages in an order ready for print and staples,
    while maintaining the 1 to 22 sequence to use in the web.
    It would be terrible creating another document and change the page numbers manually.
    Hope somebody knows how to make it.

    My bad, sorry: actually there're 24 pages counting the covers and the 2 blank pages. (1-22 is the numbering for the inside content).
    Even changing the page numbers won't correct the bleed.
    Deciding to do something new, I isolated the pages, which first were Facing Pages.
    After making a end with the spreads, the Booklet option seemed to function normally with the document bleed.
    The problem is that I still would have to change the margins of the pages manually,
    since they are not spreads anymore and now there's no inside/outside margins, but left/right instead.
    If I could understand why I can't print the spreads as booklet would be so much better...

  • How do I print a booklet with a colour cover but with black and white inside pages?

    I need to print a large amount of booklets, which have a colour cover but are grayscale on the inside. However, I am having trouble setting up my document to successfully do this and I am unsure if it is something I can change in InDesign or if it is something I should figure out with my printer driver?
    We used Page Plus for these booklets in the past and were able to do this with the same printer, so that makes me think there might be setting I could change in InDesign to achieve the same result.
    It integral that the printer knows that the inside pages of the booklet are black and white, as we get charged per copy for colour printing and it is vastly increasing our printing costs.
    My coworker believed that exporting the file as a PDF with the options: Colour Conversions (convert to destination - Pressure Numbers), Destination (sRGB IEC61966-2.1), and Profile Inclusion Policy (Don't Include Profiles) is making a difference. However, I don't believe is is the case.
    If anyone had another suggestion that I could try, that'd be great!!

    @Eugene – do you have details for "Export as Grayscale"?
    I tried with the following details:
    Target-Profile: Dot Gain 15%
    Convert to Target Profile
    Include Target Profile
    If I do it this way I get:
    Target Profile not included
    Wrong numbers for my colors
    (I tested with a self-made color wedge on the page for the percentages of Black shown below)
    Seen in Acrobat Pro 10 with proof simulation "Dot Gain 15%":
    100 % Black => 100 %
    80 % Black => 82 %
    60 % Black => 63 %
    40 % Black => 43 %
    20 % Black => 22 %
    I could convert to "Dot Gain 15%" in Acrobat Pro's Preflight Panel, but this would show the same wrong percentages (just tested).
    What I can do, however, is printing to PostScript with color separations, only color channel Black.
    That would work, if I chose a Distiller setting, that will not change the color, to convert my separated PostScript file to PDF.
    Seen in Acrobat Pro 10* with proof simulation "Dot Gain 15%" or any of the other available gray scale profiles.
    (Acrobat Pro 11 might get this wrong due to a bug)
    100 % Black => 100 %
    80 % Black => 80 %
    60 % Black => 60 %
    40 % Black => 40 %
    20 % Black => 20 %
    This separated PDF (channel Black only) can now be converted with a self-made correction* in Acrobat Pro's Preflight Panel to a gray scale PDF/X-1a.
    If done right * the color values stay as defined in inDesign.
    Output in my case:
    PDF/X-1a
    OI: GrayScale profile Black ink of ISO Coated v2 300%
    Tested with:
    InDesign CC 2014.2
    Distiller X
    Acrobat Pro X
    Mac OSX 10.7.5

    * There are several, convoluted steps necessary to get this (hope, I can remember them all):
    Not optional:
    Have a grayscale profile representing the channel Black of your intended output CMYK or generate one!
    In my case the base CMYK profile was: ISO Coated v2 300%.
    And I got a "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%" profile for Grayscale conversions by generating this with my PhotoShop app.
    Maybe optional, but helpful:
    Change the color settings of Acrobat Pro X to use the color settings file you generated in PhotoShop where:
    Grayscale is defined as the black channel of ISO Coated v2 300%: "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%"
    Mandatory, but somehow tricky:
    Then on to the Preflight Panel of Acrobat Pro to generate a custom preflight profile.
    None of the ordinary ones will fit exactly (at least in my Acrobat Pro X).
    1. Make a duplicate of an already stored Preflight profile that converts color to Gray. Name it appropriately.
    2. Include a single correction for converting to Gray Scale (at this time, or if you do something like that the first time, it's not possible to change or duplicate that single correction)
    3. Save your new profile. Close the profile.
    4. Open the profile again.
    5. Now, suddenly it's possible to duplicate that single correction (converting to Gray Scale).
    Do some changes, appropriate correction options, eg. adding "Black Ink of ISO Coated v2 300%" as OI to the PDFs you will convert.
    4. Use that duplicate single correction in your new Preflight profile.
    5. Save your custom preflight profile.

  • How can I create a booklet with Word 2011?

    I've tried using Cocoabooklet and Create Booklet. I've also tried on both Word 2011 and Pages (I only have the trial). While Create Booklet works, I'd like to be able to make the pages actual size on word (I tried making the page 5.5x8.5 then setting it up and loading it into Create Booklet but that didn't work), and not have to double my font, etc. in order to have the correct sizes after the program imposes them.

    One basic idea that I have used (in any Word processor) is to turn the standard 8+1/2 by 11 paper sideways and set up a two column layout. Each column is 8+1/2 by 5+1/2. Insert column break to move to the next mini-page.
    To use this approach without a booklet-maker program, you need to make a dummy booklet and set up the page numbers yourself, which works fine unless your booklet changes frequently. Printers call this "Printers proofs" ( pre laid out pages).
    I have tried to use a booklet program like ClickBook in the past, but I had to work WAY too hard to accomodate the software, when it was easier to just lay it out (including fronts and backs of each sheet) myself.

    I need to print a 64-page document as a "booklet," and would like to create a pdf document so I can print it off of another computer in my office.  I have printed the booklet successfully from my computer, so I know that my settings for the booklet are correct, but I can't seem to figure out how to print the document the same way as a pdf.  It doesn't work to go to Print Booklet > Print Settings > Printer > PDF > Save as PDF, and when I try to print as a PostScript File it "works," but the final pdf only contains all of the EVEN pages, not any of the ODD pages.  Very strange.  The "Preview" even contains ALL of the pages and looks perfectly accurate before I save the PostScript File.
    What am I doing wrong?  It seems like the PostScript File option is what everyone is recommending in other forum posts on making booklet pdf's, but it's not working for me.

    Not being very familiar with the Mac OS this is a complete shot in the dark but have you made sure that the PPD when you print to a postcript file is set to using the Adobe PDF PPD?
