Making a still from FCP video

I need to make a still (JPEG, tiff, ...) from a frame of my video on FCP so I can put it in a Word doc afterwards.
How do I proceed?
Thanks

Hi,
Place you playhead over the frame you want to create your still from, hit shift N and then export (using quicktime conversion) . Choose still image from the format menu and under options choose you prefered format, JPEG TIFF etc.

  • Exporting 1-frame stills from fcp

Here's my problem: I've captured lots of 1-frame stills from clips, stored in the Browser. Using 24PA Anamorphic Setup, wanting my final DVD to play 16:9 on a widescreen LCD. I then create a new Anamorphic Sequence and drag all stills to the timeline. Then, I export all the stills as jpg's, using QT Conversion to jpg. This works fine. But when I look at the resulting stills in Photoshop, they are squashed. Now, I can convert them to QT files and then get a nice correction by exporting the stills back out of QT, using Show Movie Properties>Visual Settings>Unchecking "Preserve Aspect Ratio">Changing Dimensions to 853 x 480. But then I've got a QT file which doesn't open in Photoshop. Yikes! By the way, in fcp, it doesn't seem to matter what format I set for the export--png,jpg,photoshop, etc. The stills always look squashed, compared to the video that they came from. Thanks for your help.

Drew13 or anyone! Oops! I just discovered another problem. I changed the pixel aspect ratio of all the 1-frame stills that I had exported from my 16:9 fcp project, and while there in Photoshop they look correct. But if I open these pictures in Preview, they still look squeezed. Then, if I open them again in Photoshop, I get this notice, "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum quality." When the picture opens, it looks correct at 16x9 again. Apparently, changing the pixel aspect ratio in Photoshop does not "really" change the photo. My goal is to use the exported stills in a DVD slideshow, and have them look correct at 16x9 dimensions, but now I'm stuck with all squeezed photo-stills. Hmm.

  • How do I extract still from my videos. The options near the controls includes an option to export frame to pictures, but I click it and nothing happens.

How do I get a still frame from a video in the new photos app?

The secret is in the description "Export Frame to Pictures".
After you click this, look in your top-level "Pictures" folder for the file, such as "Frame-14-04-2015-09-26-59.tiff".
You can then "Import" this file back into Photos.

  • Making a DVD from iPhone Video

Lifelong Windows user here seeking some Mac expertise:)
I am in the process of making a DVD from Iphone home videos that can be played on any DVD player.
I see that Mac's video format is .mov which from what I can tell is not the same format needed to make DVD's that can be played on all DVD players. I already have the files saved on my MacBook Pro as mov. files can anyone tell me how to get them converted in order to have them play on a DVD player? Can iMovie do the conversion for you or do I need another program to convert the files and then process them into a movie in the iMovie program or even Adobe Premiere Elements 12 which I also have installed on this MacBook Pro.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is great information to have. Thank You for your quick response. Following your response I did some more research on video converters and found that Handbrake which I already have installed on the MacBook converts video files but only in the output formats of MP4 and MKV which does not help my cause; however, while doing that research I came across a program known as iMedia Converter Deluxe for Mac from Skysoft which from what I can tell supports output .avi video formats. Do you have any experience / advice on iMedia or any other recommended video converter program that works well with Mac and is preferably "free"?

  • Taking a still from a video

I have loaded some video clips from my digital camera into iPhoto, and would like to select and extract some single still frames.  I don't understand the advice about red lines on browsers and so on when i feed this idea into "Help".  Please can anyone tell me if and how it can be done?

What is your iPhoto version? Early iMovie versions (before iMovie 9) could extract a still frames form a video, but the current iPhoto and iMovie cannot do this.
I am using Aperture's video editor to extract single frames from a video, but it would be bit expensive to upgrade to Aperture just for still frames.
if you do not need full resolution images - just the full screen size, simply view your video in full screen mode, advance the video to the frame you want and take a screenshot with (Shift+Comm+3). This wills save a photo to the Desktop.
Or use the professional version if QuickTime 7, if you have it. File > Export will save a still frame in ".pct" format.
Otherwise you will need third party apps; I have seen  MPEG Streamclip recommended for this, but have not used it myself.

  • Making a DVD from FCP X project

A few projects ago, I could render a movie for DVD from FCP X onto a DVD to burn.  Then, it would be working for hours and hours and never finish.. a day later, it wasn't finished.  Can't make one since.
What could be the problem? I s some part of the process too big for my hardware or software?  Can I change something to allow it to work again?
Any ideas?  Perhaps something is set wrong?
    Thank you for any suggestions.

    What version are you running?

  • What is best way to extract a still from a video clip

In a iMovie project there is a frame I would like as a still photo. Can I extract it from iMovie?

You can do it in iMovie '09 too. To export your still frames as JPEGs:
Choose Share > Export Using QuickTime.
Type a title for your movie in the Save As field.
Select the location where you want to save your movie. If the location you want doesn’t appear in the Where pop-up menu, click the blue Arrow button to the right of the Save As field, and then navigate to the desired folder.
Select the file format you want to export to from the Export pop-up menu (Select "Movie to Image Sequence)".
Click Options to see the default settings for compression, quality, key frame rate, frame reordering, encoding mode, and dimensions.
To change the compression settings (known as the “codec”), including quality and frame rate, click Settings (this option isn’t available for all export formats), and then specify your settings. Depending on the export format you choose, you see different codecs and compression options. If you select “Movies to QuickTime Movie” as your export format, you can make the following adjustments:
To change the compression type, frame rate, key frames, data rate, and compressor quality, click Settings. Setting a low key frame number (such as every ten frames) creates a better-quality movie with a larger file size. Set the frame rate last; you might get choppy-looking video playback if you set the frame rate to less than about 12 frames per second. Higher quality compressor settings result in a larger file size for your movie.
To add filter effects, such as blur, color adjustments, or “aging,” click Filters, and then select a type of filter from the list and make your adjustments. Any filters you apply affects the entire movie. You see a preview of your changes as you work.
To set the frame size, click Size, and then select a dimension setting from the pop-up menu and whether you want to preserve letterboxing. This size setting affects the overall size of your movie.
To export a silent movie, deselect Sound. Or select it, and then click Settings to change the default sound export settings, including format, sample rate, sample size, and channels.
If you will not be streaming this video on the Internet, deselect “Prepare for Internet Streaming.” Or select it, and then select a streaming type. If you select Hinted Streaming, you can further specify streaming behavior, including payload encoding, packet size, packet duration, QT metadata interval, repeat packets, and repeat interval.
After setting your preferences for export, click Save.
To learn more about working with compression settings and QuickTime, see the topics on exporting files in QuickTime Help. To open QuickTime Help, open the QuickTime application and then choose Help > QuickTime Help.

  • How to make a still from a video

How do I use a video , to make a single photo ?

To export a still park the playhead on the image you want, mark IN OUT, go to FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME CONVERSION. Click on QUICKTIME MOVIE and In the dropdown choose STILL IMAGE.
You will have to De-Interlace it in Photoshop after you export.
    As for making the DVD:
    Shane's Stock Answer #3:
To export your DV project so there is no loss in quality, simply go to the File Menu and select EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE. Not Quicktime Conversion, fot this will compress the footage. Make sure the settings match your timeline settings, make it self contained and you are set.
Import this into iDVD or DVDSP and burn your DVD. Don't go the h.264 route.

  • Still from FCP sequence

    Hi everybody,
I have a problem exporting a still image from a FCP sequence that is rendered fine.
I have selected format under options of still image under export with QT. Seems to do something with I click on register, but nothing is done. I can't find any picture. I even searched my disk with "find" to make sure.
I never had this problem before. I just re-installed my FCP5.1, and upgraded. Nothing works.
    What could be wrong ?
    Thanks in advance
    Ivan

Just to make sure go to the finder, open a new window (apple, N) then when the new window opens push Apple F to do a search. Change the where it says kind to Date Created and then right next to that choose Today. You will get a list of all the files you created today. If it doesn't come up with the images then you will know for sure that you didn't create, final cut pro is broken and you're screwed...
Just kidding. I would then trash prefernces, repair permissions and so forth. Before we go there do what I just described and report back.

  • How to create a sequence of stills from a video clip?

    Hi,
I am doing a video project for college and I want to create a stop motion style scene. I took a continuous video of myself drawing bit by bit a picture on a chalkboard and stepping out of the shot after each piece was drawn, now i want to edit out all the parts with me in it. I figured the best way to do this would be to convert the video into a sequence of stills and then just delete the ones i dont need.
Can anyone advice me on how to convert the video into stills or if there is a better way to do it?
    Many thanks
    Cephei

I agree with Harm. However if you want to export a still image sequence then see Export still-image sequences in the PPro Help.
You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

  • Making master DVD from FCP Quicktime

Could someone please explain to me exactly what process, every step, I have to do to with my master FCP Quicktime movies in order to make a DVD master using iDVD? Its 4.8GB plus a second film of 2.4GB. Much appreciated!!!

    Terry
    You can start here:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#idvd
but, what do you mean with DVD master?
Besides that, the key factor is not the file size of your source movie but the total lenght in minutes. Why don't you uses DVDSP?
    Hope that helps !

  • In iMovie '09, how can I capture a still picture from the video?

I have a movie that i got into iMove and I did edit it down and make a nice video from it I uploaded to YouTube. I want to know if there is any easy way to get stills from the video. when I run my cursor over the movie and get it on a person that I want to make into a still photograph is there a way to get that single piece out?
If I locate the part of the film I want as a still then try and do a screen capture, when i move the cursor to do the capture the pic in the movie changes as I move the cursor. (hope i'm making sense).
So is there a way to grab a single frame?
    Susan

Two ways to get a still:
    1) In project, move cursor to the frame. Right-click/add freeze frame. The Freeze frame is placed right behind the current clip in the project.
    2) Select a frame in an Event. Right-click/Add still frame to project. The still is added to the project at the end.
(after doing either 1 or 2, continue with step 3)
    3) Right-click on the still frame in your project. Select "Reveal in Finder". Drag the JPEG file that you see and drop it on the iPhoto icon in the Dock.
Hint: You can create a new project just for the stills. This way you will not clutter up an existing project.

  • Still images from FCP Studio 2

Ok, I have done it again. I edited a documetnary yet, forgot to have a photographer on the set.
I have captured some great images using my HVX200 but of course when exporting a still from FCP, the resolutin is only 72dpi and I need 300.
Could I import teh stills from FCP into Photoshop and just change the dpi? Would this be suitable for printing the images?
When doing that, it seems just to make them a larger photo.
    THANKS!
    Lawrence

Yes, you can change the DPI to 300. No, this won't make the images any sharper.  They started out 1280x1080, 72dpi.  Merely increasing the DPI won't make them higher resolution.  It will still look like video.  If you hire a photoshop pro, a graphics designer, they might have a few plugins in their toolkit that can help, like Genuine Fracals that help with upscaling smaller images, plus know-how on how to deal with this. But it won't look like it originated from a 12 MP camera.
Suitable for printing? That's up to you. How does it look to you?

  • Is it possible to use a still frame as a picture from a video you have recorded on an iphone 4?

Is it possible to use a still frame as a picture from a video you have recorded on an iphone 4?
Message was edited by: derekfromco kildare

Might need a little more information here. Are you trying to obtain screen captures? If all you're wanting to do is take stills from your videos then the answer is yes, you can but you'll have to transfer your videos from your iPhone to your computer first (unless you can find an APP on the iTunes store to help you to do it on your iPhone).
There are a few ways to do it. The first is that you can use the button on your keyboard called "Prt Scr" or "Print Screen". This takes a shot of your screen which you can then "paste" into a program like paint, or photoshop or even Word to then save as a jpeg image. When using this option a good trick is to use "Alt" + "Prt Scr" to only capture the current window rather than your entire desktop.
The other way to obtain screenshots is to download and install a program designed to do this for you. A great site to find something free to help you out is www.tucows.com. Try this link: http://www.tucows.com/search.html?search_scope=win&search_terms=screenshot&searc h_type=all
Also, some DVD programs have this function in built in them so it's a good idea to explore what's already installed on your computer.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do i subtract a still image from a video I have recorded

say I have a video and at one part of the video I pause it and would like to take the frame that is up on the screen and make it into a still image> how would I do that?

Your headline seems to indicate that you're trying to remove a still from a video -- while the body of your post seems to indicate that you're trying to make one!
I think what you want to do is create a Freeze Frame. If that is so, click on the little camera icon on the bottom right of the Monitor panel and select the option to insert it into your movie project.
