Making a video input for iMac

Anyone tried to modify the iMac to add a Videoinput? I'm electroni engineer and after disasembly my ibook, i think with a little patiente and some knowladge we can make a Video input. Any help?

Any idea on bandwidth considerations?
Apple's firewire 800 .vs.an HDTV stream out of a component (Xbox 360)?
My only thought (gut) would be the HD stream would saturate the firewire 800:?
FireWire (IEEE 1394b) 800 800 Mbit/s
Per : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabitpersecond
55 Mbit/s — HDTV quality 1080p
So at first blush I seem well under the threshold.
BUT, a DVI conector specs blows this away:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvi
# Maximum clock frequency in single link mode: Capped at 165 MHz (3.7 Gbit/s)
# Maximum clock frequency in dual link mode: Limited only by cable quality (more than 7.4 Gbit/s)
So, my conclusion is DVI specs are not what I should look at but rather the average HDTV 1080p stream.
Still, now all I need is a thirdparty vendor to create the box!

  • Does apple have any products to facilitate video input on iMac 27"?

I want to input video to my iMac 27". I assume you can add a display port video card to a pc, what about VGA and hdmi support?  Has apple addressed this?  I know there was the belkin av360, apple doesnt like It anymore?

The iMacs support Video Input since iMac mid 2009 i have Play Station 3 connected on my new 27" iMac mid 2011. Im using the Belkin's HDMI to MiniDisplay Port Adaptor (It is only posibble to use the "DisplayTargetMode" from iMac-OtherMac, you have just to press cmd+f2) For all the other devices you will need an Adaptor  cuz' otherwise u won't be able to input at all, or you will not be able to use High Resolution hope this helped ppl, gl.

  • View HD Video Input on iMac Screen

I would like to view the high-definition output of my cable company's hi-def cable box (via firewire, hdmi, dvi, usb, or composite connections) on my iMac's scree. Is there any such device that will do this? I have a high-def tv stick that does work with over-the-air ATSC broadcasts, but its only other input is standard analog cable at standard definition.
Would something like this ADS Pyro video capture device work for this?
    http://www.adstech.com/products/API-558-EFS/intro/API-558_intro.asp?pid=API-558- EFS
It appears to have hi-def inputs and output capability, but I'm not totally sure.
    Thanks!

  • What is a good video converter for iMac?  Premiere 6 will not capture from the Canon VIXIA HF G20.

What is a good video converter for iMac?  Premiere 6 will not capture from the Canon VIXIA HF G20.

Rather than convert, you'd be better off capturing with a more current version of the program -- one that supports AVCHD video. Otherwise, you're in for a lot of headache. A converter isn't going to solve your problems.
BTW, when you say Premiere 6, do you mean Premiere 6 -- which is over 10 years old? (There was no Premiere Elements 6.)
Trust me on this: Capture with a Mac version of Premiere Elements 11 or 12 and your video will be perfectly compatible with any Mac program.

  • No video input for external devices on iMac 24" display???

I got a 24" iMac a few days ago and love this thing. (Was in PC **** for last 30 years...) But one thing I am disappointed in is that there appears to be no video input to display video or to video capture. Is the only way to display video from an outside source by using a USB video capture device? For example, if I have a cable box or game console I want to display on the monitor, how can I do that? Seems silly to need to use a capture device to simply display video. Please let me know if there is simple way to do this. Thanks!

I don't see how using a camcorder would help especially although it would be technically possible to use it as a bridge between other devices I can't see how it would be worth your while.
Obviously not speaking from experience since almost all if not all DV cameras have passthrough, and feed video into a mac via firewire from the analog audio and video input port on the DV camera. They have been used for ages as decks (and are many times cheaper than DV decks) and as converters vs. buying a Canopus box etc., which are basically the same thing.
The EYE TV 250 does the same thing with a USB connection and its own software but for the myriad of DV cam owners the passthrough is a fine idea.

  • Audio/video input for quicksilver

Hi, does anyone have recommendations on the best/inexpensive (under $500 if possible) way for me to import audio and video onto a machine that has no audio input jack? I want to be able to capture stuff via rca audio and rca video or rca audio and s-video cables for use with quicktime, imovie and idvd. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank You
    S

Datavideo's DAC-200 converts analog A/V to digital and connects to the computer via FireWire. I've seen it for under $200, so you can compare prices for the best deal.

  • Using iPhone 4 as video input for iMovie

    Hey everyone,
I've been wondering if it is possible to set up an iPhone 4 as the video input source for iMovie 11 so I can see on the Mac's screen what I'm pointing to iPhone at; to make sure it is in focus, etc. I know it's possible to set up other video cameras but I don't seem to be able to get the iPhone to work this way.
Is it possible, or am I on to a loser here?

Not possible. iMovie does not import from iPhone in real time. It will most likely be faster than real time based on how fast your Mac is.
If you have a USB web cam or a FireWire tape DV cam, you may be able to do this. Thes importn in real time.

  • Video input with iMac 24"

Ever since the 27 inch came out and announce the ability to input a signal via mini displayport I've been researching on how exactly this works. The majority of people are saying that it is a feature that only the 27 inch offers but there are two sites in particular that sell a converter that keep mentioning that it'll work with the 24 inch. I was wondering if anyone has tried this out or knows for a fact the answer to the question.
Here are the two products in question
    Apogee Belfan
    Altona AT-DP200
And just as a side note, does this mean that apple has finally added audio the mini displayport or would that still be a separate issue?

Those converters work with the 24" Cinema Display, not the 24" iMac.
does this mean that apple has finally added audio the mini displayport or would that still be a separate issue?
That is a separate issue, and they have not.
    Regards.

  • Missing video effects for iMac g5 w/ external iSight cam

I have a G5 iMac with an external iSight camera and I'm wondering why I do not have the option for video effects while using photo booth and iChat. My wife's macbook does include video effects, so my first bet is that Apple decided not to give me the option with my OS upgrade. Anyone have a way to remedy this without spending over 2K again?

DP, he has Photo Booth and Front Row, its the effects in iChat that he can't use, and I do think that's an intel function.

  • HDMI input for imac or mac book pro?

    iMac? No way, José.
MacBook Pro? Only if you get one with an Express34 slot. Then the Matrox MXO2 Mini will work.

  • Audio input for iMac

I have a 21.5" iMac and Mavericks 10.9.4.   I will soon be starting the process of converting my vinyl records to CDs.  My question is this:  Is the iMic still a good choice to as input device (good being reasonable price, quality result) or is there now a better option?
    Thanks.

Thanks.  I'll look into that iMic.  I looked at some reviews by people who bought the item and for the most part they seem to like it.  Some expressed problems with software (Final Vinyl) Griffin included with the iMic so I wonder if there is some recommended software to use with it.  Do you have any recommendations?
    I really appreciate the help.
Oh, yeah, I clicked a wrong key in selecting the operating system when I registered for this forum.  I have the Mavericks OS X 10.9.1 system.  I'll have to figure out how to get in and modify my registration info.  Thanks for pointing that out.

  • HT4241 video input to Imac 27"

Can i use my Imac 27" as a monitor for a laptop?

The feature you are interested in is called 'Target Display Mode'. As X423424X implied the feature is supported on the 27-inch iMac's with built in Thunderbolt support, but it was also supported on the older 27-inch iMac's wihich had the Mini DisplayPort. This article will provide more information:

  • Best Video Drivers For iMac G5 PPC

Ok now that the debacle caused by the ATI Drivers is over, Is there a recommended driver which provides the best results (ie. Fast, High Quality, Low Resourse) I seem to remember downloading one which enahnced Quartz (long time ago) I also recently came across drivers from ATI (Circa 2005) ATI Displays 4.5.7 and ATIccelerator II 1.0.6b which appeared to be improvements. Any suggestions?

I do not have the iMac G5.
My assumption is that your G5 has a hardware problem with video circuitry. I'd assume in safemode the software is doing the video rendering where as in a normal boot the hardware does the video rendering. In normal mode bad hardware means no workie.
You did a clean install, I assume.  The software is good!  Your machine worked before with this software.  All points to a hardware problem.
It is quit clever of Apple to get your machine working using safemode drivers.
Software problems can be strange.  Never hurts to try, but the chances of success are infinitely near zero.
